While not technically a debut author, Laura Conaway is, however, a debut Love Inspired Suspense author! Her book, Silencing the Witness just came out in January. Listen in to see why I am extra excited about this one! note: links may be affiliate links that provide me with a small commission at no extra expense to you. What Is It about Photo Recognition Suspense Novels, Anyway? Look, I don't know about you, but ever since I read Dee Henderson's Danger in the Shadows, I've loved a story where someone just happens to snap just the right photo at just the right time and it's seen by just the wrong person. Laura Conaway has a new book out where that very thing happens in a totally different way, and I'm down for it. Like, where's my book??? (spoiler: on my shelf!) We chatted about how Laura got the idea for Silencing the Witness, about the faith in the book and... About what's coming. And guys... buy some earplugs, because I owe her a rendition of "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas." That's all I'm sayin'! Well, that and don't miss the "attempted murder" on the cover of this book! Silencing the Witness by Laura Conaway. A protected witness is exposed… the race is on to keep her alive. When her photo is leaked in the local paper, Avery Sanford's identity in witness protection is compromised. She's the key witness to a murder, and a ruthless drug ring will stop at nothing to silence her. With attackers on her tail, Avery has no choice but to accept the help of former army commander Seth Brown. But keeping Avery alive long enough to testify could be the end for them both… From Love Inspired Suspense: Courage. Danger. Faith. Like to listen on the go? If you're a romantic suspense fan, you are probably holding your breath just like we are that the new Mr. and Mrs. Smith TV series will live up to our shipping expectations. The series, which premieres February 2 on Amazon Prime, is a reimagining of the movie starring Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie. Donald Glover and Maya Erskine star as John and Jane Smith, two spies posing as a married couple for their mission who are maybe, just maybe, stumbling into real feelings for each other. Ahead of the show's first 8 episodes, hosts Jennifer and Heather discussed their first impressions of the trailer. They share their hopes and fears for the series, and, of course, their predictions about whether they're going to “ship it or skip it.”Show notes & couples discussed in the episode (by timestamp):Watch the trailers we're discussing here:Mr. and Mrs. Smith's “Teaser” trailer The “full-length trailer” for Mr. and Mrs. SmithIs the new Mr. and Mrs. Smith series based on a past movie or show? Here's what we found:Alfred Hitchcock made exactly one (1) comedy, and it was the 1941 film Mr. and Mrs. Smith – zero relationship to the Pitt/Jolie movie or this new show from what we can tell, thoughMaria Bello and Scott Bakula starred in a short-lived 1996 TV show called Mr. and Mrs Smith that seems to be more of the template for this new seriesIn the 2005 action romance movie we all know and love, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt play a husband and wife whose marriage is on the rocks until they each learn that the other is a spy at a competing agency. Who knew attempted assassinations could save a marriage? Seriously, that's the plot.See you in part 2 of this episode, where we'll chat about our reactions to the full 8-episode season of the new Mr. and Mrs. Smith!

Double Selah Award-winning romantic suspense author, Sarah Hamaker, chatted with me this week about her Cold War Legacy series, and whoa... guys! What a cool idea! We're talking about contemporary romantic suspense influenced by things that happened during the Cold War. How can it be anything but amazing? Listen in and see! Note: links may be affiliate links that provide me with a small commission at no extra expense to you. Thought the Cold War Was Over? This Romantic Suspense Series Says Think Again! When I heard that Sarah Hamaker's book won the Selah Award for Romantic Suspense, I wasn't exactly surprised. While a new-to-me author, the premise of that book sounded amazing. Of course, she won! But when I discovered she also won their BOOK OF THE YEAR as well, well... I stood up and listened. And I added three more books to my overloaded July TBR. #BecauseGluttonForLiteraryPunishment Using what could have happened during the Cold War behind the Berlin Wall in East Germany is a catalyst for what happens today, Sarah Hamaker has penned a compelling series concept that I for one, can't wait to read. Next up is a 9-1-1 dispatch idea, that I also am eager to read. What's not to love? The Dark Reckoning by Sarah Hamaker A good deed turns into a search for a missing woman. When Isana Thomas finds a smartphone among the cherry trees, her life is put in jeopardy. Isana discovers the phone belongs to Lillian Hillam, whose son, Cyrus “Cy” Hillam, works at The Heritage Museum with Isana. But Lillian is missing, and someone doesn't want the pair to find her. Cy can't believe his mother would disappear without telling him, not after his father's suicide when he was a child. Then kidnappers claiming to have Lillian contact him, asking to exchange her life for a list of names. Cy and Isana must delve deep into his parents' past to find the list and save his mother's life. But someone doesn't want them to succeed and will do anything to stop their search. Will Cy and Isana uncover the truth about the list before their lives are snuffed out? Award-winning and NY Times bestselling author, Jayne Ann Krentz, spoke to me about how persistence has defined her career, why you need to describe your core story in three words, and her latest thriller, “Sleep No More.” Jayne Ann Krentz is the author of over 50 consecutive New York Times bestsellers with over 40 million copies of her books in print. She currently writes under three pseudonyms and her award-winning books have earned her the title of “Queen of Romantic Suspense.” Her latest is Sleep No More, the first novel of the Lost Night Files series, described as a “... new romantic suspense trilogy about a night that changed three women forever—but that none of them can remember.” Kirkus Reviews called the book, “A richly layered mystery full of pleasing paranormal elements from a master of the genre,” and Booklist wrote, in a starred review, “[Krentz] skillfully [taps] into the current vogue for true-crime podcasts with her heroine's side hustle while at the same giving a clever nod to the eternal appeal of the Gothic …” Jayne Ann earned a BA in history from the University of California, Santa Cruz, and went on to obtain a Master's degree in library science from San Jose State University in California. Kristen Hogrefe Parnell started off writing YA suspense, moved to YA dystopian, and now has a romantic suspense series coming out in just a few days! Crossroads Suspense kicks off December 5, 2022, with Take My Hand. Listen in and see why her premise hooked me at the word "mafia." Note: links may be affiliate links that provide me with a small commission at no extra expense to you. Riveting Suspense That'll Make You Need Your Own Trauma Therapist! Just kidding!!! Seriously, though! When Kristen Hogrefe Parnell told me the premise of her book boiled down to "ex-mafia goes to a trauma therapist," I knew she had a killer of an idea. No pun intended (but it did work out pretty well, didn't it?). Add to that the idea that she doesn't know what he told her, he's not alive anymore to explain it to her, and oh, by the way, RUN! and... well, you've got a riveting book. Right? Kristen and I spoke about her YA series (both of them), the difficulty in naming characters (hint: don't use your agent's name for the ditzy gal like Kristen did or kill off your kids' boyfriends if you think it's going to turn serious like last week's guest did). While you might have to wait a year for the next book in this series, she has several other books to keep you going until then, so check out her WEBSITE for more information about those AND sign up for her newsletter. Take My Hand by Kristen Hogrefe Parnell Don't find us. We'll find you. Trauma therapist Kaley Colbert needs a vacation from her job, and a ski trip with her church singles' group seems like the perfect way to unplug. But while in the mountains, she learns that her last client was murdered hours after their meeting, and she wonders if the notes she's receiving from a possible stalker hold a more sinister warning. On the trip, ex-boyfriend and entrepreneur Reef Mitchell wants to give their relationship another chance, but Kaley questions if his past and priorities could ever mesh with her life. When her client's underworld connections catch up with her, she has no choice but trust Reef to help her stay alive, solve her client's mystery, and bring the killers to justice. I was introduced to Natalie Walters through her first book, Living Lies, and as I chatted with her about her upcoming release, Blind Trust, I realized the reason the second book in that series felt different (and I stopped reading) was because I actually listened to the first book on audiobook! DUH! So, last night I started listening to the sample and immediately felt drawn in the same way. Weird, I know. But her second series, the SNAP Agency series went without a conversation due to all kinds of trouble, so we chatted about the whole series, especially the second book, Fatal Code (available now), and the third book, Blind Trust (releasing April 11, 2023). Listen in to learn more! Note: links may be affiliate links that provide me with a small commission at no extra expense to you. Are You Ready for a Reckless, Wild, Riveting Series Finale? Whooeee, I had a fun time chatting with Natalie Walters this week. Her last book in the SNAP Agency series might not come out for a few months, but those months are going to fly by and you have THREE books you can read while you wait. Not only that, but as we talked about, the first book, Lights Out, is half off at Baker Book House (with free shipping!) AND... there's a series prequel available for Kindle Unlimited readers (or to purchase! Feed an author!) right now. Or, you can wait and get that novella FREE in the month or so before release. Learn more about that on Natalie's website (link below). I loved the way Natalie described this agency as kind of an Avengers thing where everything goes terribly wrong and the fate of the nation is in peril unless SNAP gets it together and saves the day. Exactly what the cold, chilly (dare I call it a "cold SNAP"?) calls for, right? You can listen in to the interview about the first book in this series, Lights Out, HERE. Blind Trust by Natalie Walters When Lyla Fox receives a threatening letter from a man she put in prison, she uncovers clues that lead to a deadly government conspiracy--making her a target that fellow SNAP Agent Nicolás Garcia will protect at all costs. But working with Lyla proves to be more dangerous than he expects--for the mission and for his heart. You can learn more about Natalie and her books on her WEBSITE. You can also preorder Blind Trust at BakerBookHouse.com at 40% off AND... with free shipping--so better than Amazon even. ALSO... Don't forget that if you preorder this book, you can order another book at the same time and receive it with the free shipping deal, too! :D Finally, don't forget the prequel novella, Initium. You can read it free on Kindle Unlimited today, or sign up for Natalie's newsletter to get it free later!

Hello there, Hallee and welcome to the show. It's great to have you with us. Hallee Bridgeman - Inspirational romantic suspense author Hallee Bridgeman: Thank you so much. I'm excited to be. Jenny Wheeler: You are the best-selling author of inspirational fiction with nearly a million copies sold. That's a point for congratulations and celebration for starters. And we are going to be talking today about one of your recent series, Love and Honor, but you've got six other series and also half a dozen or so standalone books. Give us an idea of where did you get started? Was it with the inspirational fiction, right at the beginning? Hallee Bridgeman: That's what published first, but I wrote years ago, I was originally a secular romance author, not a Christian romance author. I had 10 books written that were secular, typical, straight up romance. And then. I shelved them for a few years, I went through a divorce and I got remarried and I had babies and then one day I pulled them out and that was when I changed them to Christian fiction. Six of those original stories have been published, but I redeemed them. I went in and I made them Christian instead of just a romance story. What else you'll hear in Hallee's interview: Why she rewrote her first ten books How Hallee manages a fulltime job, home schooling two ten boys, and publishing 49 books as well How being a ‘military brat' has influenced her writing. Why Hallee likes to focus on focus on ‘Type A' strong men. and realistic characters who face real world problems. Suspense dipped in romance--what more could you want unless it's wrapped up in the world of Lynette Eason's "Elite Guardians." This is what Sami A. Abrams was given the privilege of writing in when she joined Sunrise Publishing's collection of books in Lynette's series. However, from the sounds of it, Lynette also has the privilege of having Sami writing in her world, too. Listen in to find out more. Note: links may be affiliate links that provide me with a small commission at no extra expense to you. Ready for an Exciting Ride with the Elite Guardians? We had a great chat with the first author in this new series from Sunrise Publishing, Kate Angelo back in Episode 125. Book two released today with author Sami A. Abrams taking TWO of Lynette Eason's characters on a new and wild ride complete with, and I quote, "car chases, explosions, and more." Yeah. Hold onto your hats (and you might want that five-point harness I mentioned). Look, how can you go wrong with something exciting like a guy who knows something he can't remember and being on the run from... what? EEEP! Sami A. Abrams released her debut novel with Love Inspired Suspense back in December. Buried Cold Case Secrets sounds amazing, and Sami tells us about how her readers wanted book two and... if I recall correctly, that's Twin Murder Mix-Up or the next book coming out early next year. Double EEEP! We talk about all this... and a lot more... and with a ton of laughter and stories in the middle. I had a great time talking with her. Impending Strike by Sami A. Abrams He loves her, but he can't have her… Elite Guardian Charlie Lee knows that there is no future with the woman he loves—fellow Guardian Lizzie Tremaine. And he gets it. Lizzie's a single mom focused on protecting her daughter, and Charlie's got his own baggage anyway. It's easier, and safer, to keep things the way they are. Then, the unthinkable happens.
