Good morning everyone, Carlos here, ready to embark on my Sunday adventure. Today, I'm catching the 28 bus instead of my usual 27 because it gets me to my destination at a more convenient time. Fort Street, where I'm heading, is named after the historic Fort Victoria and intersects with the bustling Douglas Street in downtown Victoria.I'll also be sharing an update on Norma's back surgery—she had a spot removed for biopsy, and I've been helping dress her wound daily. As for me, I'm working a couple of hours today due to a shortage of chefs, so I'm running to work from Fort Street to Little Piggy's Cater. On my way, I'll take some scenic photos and enjoy the views, like the beautiful Johnson Street Bridge and the serene Inner Harbour. It's overcast but still gorgeous, and I'm capturing these moments for my podcast and trailer video. Thanks for joining me on this run; I'll upload the audio once I get home. This is the Running Jackal signing off from my Sunday run to work. Have a great day!

I wake up early and head to work, catching the bus on time. Before work, I decide to go for a 5 km run, mostly downhill. As I start running down Johnson Street, I reflect on the downtown area and the Johnson Street Bridge, which I remember seeing open four years ago. Passing through the multi-occupancy buildings, I cross Douglas Street and enter downtown Victoria. Running in civilian clothes with a bandana and backpack, I observe the city's main drag, Douglas Street, and the quaint Lower Johnson Street with trendy shops. Approaching the Johnson Street Bridge, I switch to vertical recording with my phone. As I cross the bridge, I capture views of the inner harbor and industrial area, noting the bridge's opening for large ships. Continuing my run, I pass through the upper harbor section, admiring the condos and new developments. Eventually, I reach a lookout spot with views of the Selkirk Trestle and Gorge Road Bridge. After reaching halfway to my calorie goal, I take a break and admire the surroundings before continuing my run. Passing by favorite houses and nearing the end of my run, I record my podcast sign-off, feeling accomplished as I head to work.

(Videos Only Available On Spotify For Now) #AffordableHousingNow #HumanRights #Encampments #Canada #Homeless #Opnhs1492 #Freedom #Traffickinghub #Itccs.org Beacon Hill Park is a 75 ha (200 acre) park located along the shore of Juan de Fuca Strait in Victoria, British Columbia. The park is popular both with tourists and locals, and contains a number of amenities including woodland and shoreline trails, two playgrounds, a waterpark, playing fields, a petting zoo, tennis courts, many ponds, and landscaped gardens. There is no entrance fee and parking is also free in available spaces. Within Beacon Hill Park, dogs must be kept on-leash at all times and are not allowed in the Heronry at Good Acre Lake, and at playgrounds in the park. ... The leash-optional area is located between Dallas Road and the pathway, from Douglas Street to Clover Point. Beacon Hill Park has been designated as one of the 12 city parks the City of Victoria has permitted over-night tenting. The city has put on hold the bylaw (due to tough times right now) that states between 7am and 7pm there will be no camping. This park is a very large tourist attraction and some locals worry about the impact it will have on the tourism sector. It's also a place where people in the neighborhood can go to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Since the early 2000's tent cities around Greater Victoria have cost taxpayers millions of dollars in taxes due to clean ups. In July the BC Supreme court granted the City of Victoria an injunction, which ordered over 100 people tenting in the park to be moved to other areas within the park that are less environmentally sensitive. The area the city is protecting is a sensitive Garry Oaks ecosystem (Garry Oak ecosystems are among the most endangered in Canada). With the move to these designated areas the tents are more out in the open, which can lead to being harassed by people driving by honking and yelling obscenities. Plus people are also more likely to walk up to their tents and invade their space. Before they moved they were more hidden in the treed areas. With tents in the open it also shines a light on the reality of homelessness in the city. It seems the majority of the community want the tents to leave and not have the permission from the city to be able to camp there. Some feel the park isn't safe to walk through at night and there have been some altercations between the campers and residents. There have been tent fires, which of course is a safety concern. Needles have been found as well, which makes people with children and dogs most likely to stay clear of the park. The housing crisis has become worse with COVID-19. The shelters have had to cut back the amount of people they allow in, which leaves many left outside in the cold. With winter upon us homeless people risk health issues due to the exposure to the cold and wet conditions. We need to be compassionate toward the homeless. It's easy to judge and be cruel, but let's do our best to be kind and understanding. Bylaw officers are in parks daily and work closely with community organizations and peers to share information about services available in the community. This work is ongoing, and the City will continue to support efforts to create long-term housing solutions with ongoing supports so that people can build a better and more comfortable life. #AffordableHousingNow #HumanRights #Encampments #Canada #Homeless --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/yeenaaldlooshii/message

In this epic interview Harris shares the lessons gleaned from a life inside and outside of Hollywood, from his meetings with legends like Orson Welles and Chester Himes, to the project he has been working on since “Chameleon Street”, a documentary called “Yeshua vs. Frankenstein In 3D/G-Speak”. How is the world wrong about Wendell B. Harris, Jr.? This Friday, a new restoration of the 1989 indie classic Chameleon Street opens at BAM. Wendell B. Harris's utterly unique satire follows a real-life compulsive conman, Douglas Street, whose increasingly risky scams demonstrate both a sociopathic genius and a deep pathos. Wendell not only wrote and directed the film, but, like his hero Orson Welles, also played the lead character, with all of the dangerous charm of a man who conned his way into a surgical theater. On today's podcast, Wendell joins FC Editors Clinton Krute and Devika Girish for a fascinating oral history of the making of Chameleon Street, which won the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance. He also revealed that he's pulled some cons of his own: in 1978, he scored an interview with classic Hollywood actor Hurd Hatfield by pretending to be a Film Comment reporter. Wendell, when you find the tape, please send it our way! Better late than never.

Changing Habits: 250 Years of Convent Life charts the construction of the oldest building, built in 1771, by Nano Nagle as home for the Ursuline Sisters she had invited to Cork from Paris. The exhibition then charts the foundation of the Presentation Sisters and the changing ways of life on the site up to the present day. Using the rich archival records of the Ursuline and Presentation sisters, the exhibition also includes artefacts from the collection of objects held by the Presentation Sisters. The Exhibition features recreations of a complete set of nuns' habits through the years. The oldest kind of habit, worn by the Presentation Sisters from 1805, changed very little for 140 years. Several changes then came in quick succession. The habit was made shorter, the huge sleeves were made detachable, and the bandeau and the guimpe, once made of starched linen, changed to celluloid. Dressmaker Sam Wynn, and the resident sisters here, have created what the ‘changing habits' look like over time. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

There are cloth mesh barriers lining the steel girders underneath the railroad bridge in downtown Wichita. The bridge, nicknamed the ‘pigeon bridge’, was a home to a roost of the birds--a few weeks before the mesh went up, live traps were placed, pocketed between beams, and the birds’ numbers dwindled. That the pigeon has a pedigree more noble than its circumstances is a fact often overlooked in discussions that center on what to do about the bird. The species is amazingly versatile, and even as a metaphor, the pigeon is a capable ally. The pigeon is the bird of the working poor, as described by Vast Aire in this song by Cannibal Ox, called ‘Pigeon’: It’s difficult to avoid comparison between the eviction of the pigeons from the Douglas Street bridge, and the renovation of Naftzger Park just across the street, which has resulted in the eviction of the unhoused or working poor that visited the park.
