THE WORLD IS WRONG is an extremely positive podcast about movies the world is wrong about. Hosts ANDRAS JONES & BRYAN CONNOLLY have spent their lives championing these films, TV shows and cinematic artists. Andras, is the star of many cult motion pictures, a songwriter, an author, a bartender, and the host and creator of the musical divination show, Radio8Ball. Bryan, is a filmmaker, video store clerk, the co-author of the massive paean to punk rock in film "Destroy All Movies", and the co-host of "The Director's Wall" podcast. Together they will introduce you to films you may have never seen or heard of, many you may have heard of but from people who were simply wrong about them, and maybe even a few that you saw and thought you didn't like. Well, you were wrong and this is the podcast that will make you glad you were.

Marilyn Moss joins the podcast to discuss “The Farrows of Hollywood: Their Dark Side Of Paradise” her new biography of John Farrow, a director whose films deserve a re-appraisal and whose life is a frightening mystery. How is the world wrong about John FarrowFrom Andras: At first I wanted to talk to Marilyn Moss about her book because of my interest in Woody Allen. All I knew about John Farrow was that he sounded like the monster Mia often portrays Allen as, but once I started checking out John Farrow's films like “Alias Nick Beale”, “His Kind of Woman”, “Night Has A Thousand Eyes”, “Two Years Before The Mast”, “Five Came Back” and of course, “The Big Clock” (which I'd already seen), it became evident to me that Farrow was an important and exciting director whose elegance, frankness, and odd lyrical spiritualism opened me up to a new (for me) cinematic voice."Dylan & Moses" by Andras Jones (from the upcoming album "Recognize, De-Escalate & De-Code")Produced & Hosted by Andras JonesExecutive Producer: Erica RusselFind all of our episodes at www.theworldiswrongpodcast.comFollow us on Instagram @theworldiswrongpodcast Follow us on Twitter @worldiswrongpodFollow us on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCKE5tmbr-I_hLe_W9pUqXagFind all things Andras Jones at https://previouslyyours.com/ The World Is Wrong theme song written, produced and performed by Andras JonesCheck out: The Radio8Ball Show hosted by Andras JonesSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Paul Williams, the director (not the songwriter or the rock critic or the architect…) shares excerpts and outtakes from his memoir “Harvard, Hollywood, Hitmen & Holy Men” currently available as part of the Screen Classics collection from the University Press Of Kentucky. Williams is the director of “The November Men” which World is Wrong listeners will already be familiar with, as well as films like “Out Of It” (1969) and “The Revolutionary” (1970) both starring a young Jon Voight. Williams, with his production partner Edward Pressman, was a producer of films like Brian DePalma's “Sisters” & “The Phantom Of The Paradise” as well as Terrence Malick's “Badlands”. From Andras: You'd think people would be into a Roman Polanski-less “Chinatown” sequel but they were not. Nicholson manages to give us a continuation of Robert Towne's detective story about the evolution of Los Angeles that is simultaneously sleazier AND more compassionate than the original. If the world had been a little less wrong about this film we might've got a third installment, all about pollution and the LA freeway which, as Bryan points out in the episode, is kind of the plot of “Who Framed Roger Rabbit”? which may be the closest we'll get to the completion of the Chinatown series. Here's the JJ Gittes site I referenced on the podcast as a resource for the information I shared: http://j-j-gittes.blogspot.com/Find all of our episodes at www.theworldiswrongpodcast.comFollow us on Instagram @theworldiswrongpodcast Follow us on Twitter @worldiswrongpodFollow us on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCKE5tmbr-I_hLe_W9pUqXagFind all things Andras Jones at https://previouslyyours.com/ The World Is Wrong theme song written, produced and performed by Andras JonesCheck out: The Director's Wall with Bryan Connolly & AJ Gonzalez&The Radio8Ball Show hosted by Andras JonesSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

From Andras: Woody Allen's films are often used, misleadingly, as evidence to justify the accusations against him. A film like “Deconstructing Harry” does the opposite. In Allen's most direct cinematic response to the end of his relationship with Mia Farrow he portrays himself as a pill popping, booze swilling, womanizer who brings misery upon those around him by using their lives for his art. A guilty man might be expected to portray himself as innocent but Allen seems to be saying, “It's true. I am horrible. Just not the way you think”. This is not only the response of an innocent man. "The Hot Spot” is Dennis Hopper's interpretation of a 1962 noir written for Robert Mitchum by Charles Wilson based upon his novel “Hell Hath No Fury” and, amazingly, this 1990 version starring Don Johnson and Virginia Madsen is probably better than the original could ever have been. Directed by Dennis Hopper. Written by Charles Wilson & Nona Tyson. Starring Don Johnson, Virginia Madsen, Jennifer Connelly, Charles Martin-Smith, Jack Nance, Barry Corbin, William Sadler, Jerry Hardin. Score by Jack Nitzsche with John Lee Hooker, Taj Mahal & Miles Davis How is the world wrong about Wrongness From Andras Jones: Bring up Dennis Hopper and people want to talk about “Easy Rider” (a happy generational accident) or “Out Of The Blue” (a nihilistic masterpiece) but for my money this modern noir is the most enjoyable directorial effort in his canon. Andras & Bryan attempt to unravel the symptoms of wrongness (double standards, with us or against us proclamations, denial of facts and context & fear) particularly when artists become the targets of campaigns that mask deeper and more complicated agendas. How is the world wrong about Wrongness? From Andras Jones: In this episode we discuss several examples of wrongness in cinema and why Bryan and I respond to these in the different ways we do. I hope these stories, and the way we discuss them, will inspire you to look beyond the wrongness of the world and its scapegoats to the lessons we might draw from them. How is the world wrong about this show? From Andras Jones: The world was never more wrong about this show than when it came out and still, far too few people, even those who are steeped in the comedy of the 90's, remain unaware of it or its influence. How do you make a movie steeped in 80's nostalgia without having it be a major Spielberg-fest? You get Spielberg to direct it! Directed by Steven Spielberg. Written by Zak Penn and Ernest Cline (Based on his book). Starring Tye Sheridan, Olivia Cooke, Ben Mendelsohn, Lena Waithe, Mark Rylance and Simon Pegg. How is the world wrong about this movie? From Bryan Connolly: This was and is so hated by so many people. Yes, the constant shoehorning of pop culture and bombardment of frenetic CGI is a brain overload, but this is Spielberg having a lot of fun…and it's been a while since he's relaxed and just had a good time. In 2004 Spielberg and Hanks teamed up for “The Terminal” a film that lives up to its name if not its reputation. AJ Gonzalez of The Directors Wall joins the podcast to discuss. Directed by Steven Spielberg Written by Sacha Gervasi & Jeff Nathanson. Starring Tom Hanks, Stanley Tucci, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Chi McBride, Diego Luna, Kumar Pallana, Zoe Saldana, Michael Nouri, & Benny Golson How is the world wrong about this movie? From Andras Jones: “The Terminal” is a fantastic example of Spielberg's ability to make an incredibly bleak film and wrap it in so much goodness you don't even know how sad it is. Meanwhile we've got Hanks doing what he does best; bringing unexpected pathos to physical comedy and vice versa. I think most people think of this (if they do at all) as lightweight fluff. Macy, Tea Leoni, Alessandro Nivola, Trevor Morgan, Michael Jeter, John Diehl & Laura Dern How is the world wrong about this movie? From Bethany Watson:This is a powerhouse cast making great character choices (especially Sam Neill!) and the dinosaurs are *even better.* Also, it's a cautionary tale against trusting the super-rich with helicopters. William Richert's adaptation of Richard Condon's assassination novel is the star-studded pinnacle of 1970's paranoid cinema crossed with a very dark and dry and dirty comedy. Directed by William Richert. Starring Jeff Bridges, John Huston, Anthony Perkins, Belinda Bauer, Eli Wallach, Richard Boone, Ralph Meeker, Sterling Hayden, Toshiro Mifune, Dorothy Malone and Elizabeth Taylor How is the world wrong about this movie? From Andras: “Winter Kills” works a lot better for those steeped in JFK assassination lore which made it hip upon release in 1979 and incredibly obscure now.
