Salo Panto is: Joe Garwig, Max Doyle, Ed Beach, and David Kudelka Since 2015, Salo Panto has been exploring and bending every corner of the rock genre. Rooted in psychedelia with a stage presence that will blow your hair back, commonly being described as “a sight to behold”. Their technical skill and original hooks play homage to the legends of rock while transforming the genre into something new entirely. These chameleons can be found anywhere from the alternative radio waves to a doom show lineup, specially curating their sound for every performance, creating an atmosphere that is infectious and inclusive, all for the love of music. The band has frequented many premier venues in Portland such as Rontoms, Doug Fir and Dante's. In 2023 they've added notable notches to their belt by performing four dates at the Rose Festival, Lose Yr Mind Fest and releasing their debut full-length album, “Parallel Narratives” on Literal Gold Records.Salo Panto BandcampSRTN Wesbite
Once Jay Kholos sold the show to various radio stations, it was generally up to those stations to sell the show to sponsors. In New York, The Zero Hour was running on WRVR 106.7-FM. WRVR-FM was initially a public radio station owned and operated by The Riverside Church in New York. It began broadcasting on January 1st, 1961. The Riverside Church, located in Morningside Heights, is an interdenominational, interracial, and international church, and has long been a center of activism and social justice. WRVR was the first station to win a Peabody for its entire programming, in part for its documentary coverage of the civil rights movement in Birmingham in 1963. In addition to religious and philosophical discussions with Riverside clergy and theologians, WRVR programming included addresses by political and cultural leaders, like Indira Gandhi, Aldous Huxley, John F. Kennedy, and Margaret Mead. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his pivotal “Beyond Vietnam” speech at the Riverside Church over WRVR-FM on April 4th, 1967. The station also featured the heralded weekly program Just Jazz with Ed Beach. In September 1971, WRVR went commercial and shifted to a news format, with the exception of Just Jazz, which continued until 1973. By then, WRVR was experimenting with radio drama in both golden age and new time productions. On September 4th, 1973, part two of The Zero Hour's “Wife of the Red-Haired Man” took to the air. Radio legend Mary Jane Croft, who was also the wife of Elliott Lewis, was featured in this episode. Years later, she spoke to SPERDVAC about her radio career and late husband. In September of 1973, WRVR was advertising a World Hockey Association exhibition matchup which featured legends Gordie Howe and Bobby Hull. The New York Raiders and later The Golden Blades were intended to be the upstart WHA's flagship franchise. They were, however, unable to compete with the NHL's New York Rangers and the expansion New York Islanders. After just two seasons, The Golden Blades moved to San Diego. The WHA folded after eight years in 1979 with four teams: The Edmonton Oilers, Hartford Whalers, Quebec Nordiques, and Winnipeg Jets, joining the NHL.
Ed Beach discusses his boardgames, including Here I Stand, Virgin Queen, and the Great Campaigns of the American Civil War series. We also talk about Ed’s work on the Civilization V computer game, including the new Gods & Kings expansion. How similar or different are board games and computer games, from a design perspective?

In this episode, we celebrated the Springfield Area Sports Hall of Fame season and had a plethora of sports figures. We were very grateful for Ebbett's Field in hosting the show and for all of the participants that were willing to join us and play some games on air. We had, in no particular order, Corey Riggs, Art Hains, Ray Meyer, Ned Reynolds, Mark Stillwell, Mark Fisher, Dan Cashel, Lynne Miller, Lisa Tinkler, Becky Oakes, Reba Sims, Ed Beach, Bill Rowe, and Tom Mast who all braved the airwaves playing our segments of “Out of the Hat” and “This or That”. What a fun evening!
In this episode, we met with the Content Strategist for Missouri State University, Kevin Agee, and explored his position and mission at promoting Missouri State University and how he accomplishes that with several outlets including social media. We also spoke with the Sports Information Director at Drury University, Ed Beach and how he uses several techniques to engage the community and inform fans about Drury Athletics. The insight of these gentlemen and their positions are fascinating. Coaches don't only teach on the court, part of what they do is promote their program and Kevin and Ed gave out some valuable advice on how to do that and it relates to businesses and organizations, too!
