The next PlayStation Studios game in the pipeline is Concord, and we're all interested to see how it pans out. But by opening up its imminent beta weekend to all PS+ subscribers instead of those who pre-ordered the game, it's obvious that the pre-release energy for this title simply isn't there. Will a mass of people going hands-on change its trajectory? Or do things seem a little bit dire for Firewalk's maiden voyage? Plus: Bloodborne for PS5 appears on PlayStation Stars in a cruel tease, Zenless Zone Zero hits 50 million players in only a week, Arc System Works is toiling away on a 3D Double Dragon game, Sony gets into bed with PalWorld studio Pocketpair, and more. Then: Listener inquiries! What do we think of the extensive changes Microsoft made to Xbox's Game Pass program? We've talked a great deal about AI, but how do we feel about its distant cousin procedural generation? Which changes do we want to see instituted most in Firaxis' Civilization VII? Hey hey! We're back with our second episode that we recorded at this year's GDC, and it's a doozy! In a switch from how we normally do things, we brought a grab bag of simple questions to the conference and hit up people who were free, and so y'all get to see how everyone's answers differed. In our first group, we had Ben Starr (actor, Final Fantasy XVI), Alexa Ray Corriea (senior writer at Cliffhanger Games on Black Panther), Kait Tremblay (narrative director at Soft Rains), and Kelsey Beachum (writer / narrative designer). In our second group (starting at 35:21) we had Adam Dolin (writer), Kate Dollarhyde (senior narrative designer at Obsidian Entertainment), and Kelsie Mhoon (senior narrative designer at Obsidian Entertainment on The Outer Worlds 2). Our third group (starting at 1:19:39) had Emma Kidwell (writer at Firaxis), Nessa Cannon (game writer), and Calliope Ryder (lead producer Weta Workshop on Tales of the Shire). And we closed things out (at 1:47:33) with Chandana Ekanayake (co-founder / creative director of Outerloop Games, and director of Thirsty Suitors). Topics include: hobbies that aren't related to game development, current game of the year, favorite villains / antagonists, a time you messed up and what you learned from it, how you stay positive, games you keep returning to, favorite choice you've ever made in a game, people in this industry who did something nice for you, favorite NPCs, games you're always referencing that nobody else has ever heard of, games that made you think differently about something, first game you played where the story really affected you, what you'd force devs to change during production, games you wish you'd gotten to work on, how to get team members to read documentation, something in your process that saves a ton of time, advice for people wanting to get into game narrative, and so SO much more it's kinda insane!!!Our Guests on the InternetGroup 1: Ben Starr, Alexa Ray Corriea, Kait Tremblay, Kelsey BeachumGroup 2: Adam Dolin, Kate Dollarhyde (wants you to play Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire), Kelsie Mhoon (wants you to play Jak 2)Group 3: Emma Kidwell (wants you to play Hindsight and Midnight Suns), Nessa Cannon (wants you to wishlist Star Trucker), Calliope Ryder (wants you to wishlist Tales of the Shire)Group 4: Chandana Ekanayake (wants you to play Thirsty Suitors)Stuff We Talked AboutPrince of Persia: The Lost CrownFinal Fantasy VII RebirthDave the DiverChants of SenaarGarden GalaxyAdvent RisingPrey - MooncrashPyre Original SoundtrackLonely Rolling Star - Katamari DamacyAquatic Ambiance - Donkey Kong CountryLiberi Fatali - Final Fantasy VIIITony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 creditsAnna Megill's Game Writing GuidesAdam's LLVTR game writing class is no longer being offered otherwise we'd link it :'[Packing Up the Rest of Your Stuff on the Last Day at Your Old ApartmentDredgeGrowthNina Freeman's GamesFull ThrottleBellatroA Short HikeLong Live the QueenGame Dev StoryOur theme music was composed by Isabella Ness, and our logo was created by Lily Nishita.

Win the game in various ways like technology or culture. Make deals with other civilizations or betray them at the last minute. Civilization is game that can suck up a lot of your time. This is the game that defined the term "Just one more turn!".

Len and Fraser are joined by PC Gamer's Evan Lahti to discuss Marvel's Midnight Suns. This tactical card battle RPG from Firaxis is a big departure from XCOM... or is it? We gush and grumble about our most and least favorite characters, respectively, break down the combat and progression systems, and learn an important lesson about the true meaning of friendship.

This week, the TC gang dives into Marvel's Midnight Suns, a new game from XCOM developers Firaxis that could have also been called Marvel's Three Houses. Kirk, Maddy, and Jason talk about the elaborate combat system, the wide-ranging cast of superheroes, and whether or not you can smooch Wolverine. We also share our impressions of Firaxis' Marvel's Midnight Suns and wonder how Blade and Captain Marvel will hook up.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Marvel's Midnight Suns is a tactics game from XCOM developer Firaxis, only instead of shooting aliens a hundred times from behind cover, you play cards to beat ass with your best friend, Blade. This is, objectively, a very good idea, but how well does the rest of the game hold up? Also, what's on our backlog as we approach the GOTY proceedings? Also discussed: Dave the Diver, Pentiment, What the Bat, Binding of Isaac, Andor, Soccer Story, Peglin, Tiny Rogues
Marvel's Midnight Suns creative director Jake Solomon joins us to discuss Firaxis' new superhero strategy-RPG -- including a couple of Easter eggs that big Marvel fans should look out for. On today's IGN The Fix: Games, A Take-Two earnings report reveals the publisher plans for at least eight more remasters or ports - plus some details about games coming in 2023 and beyond. Take-Two, who owns 2K Games, Rockstar, and Firaxis, among others, announced that between now and 2025, plans to release 24 immersive core games. GTA 5 will look to finally get a mobile port while remasters or ports of previous games are on the horizon. Today's 505 Games Spring 2022 Showcased Among the Trolls, Stray Blade, Miasma Chronicles, and Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising. Among the Trolls is a supernatural first-person survival game set among Finland's deep forests. Stray Blade is a soul that pairs an anthropologist with a spellcasting wolf gremlin. The showcase's final game was a teaser for Miasma Chronicles, a brief trailer featuring a boy, his robot, and what seems like an extra-dimensional force. The Red Dead Online community has been begging developer Rockstar for more significant updates to the game on par with what Grand Theft Auto Online has been getting, using the hashtag #SaveRedDeadOnline.
Rob chats with Greg Foertsch, ex-Firaxis art director and founder of Bit Reactor, about his time on Gettysburg!, XCOM, and other seminal strategy games after getting an internship at Microprose right out of art school. Greg reminisces on his time at Firaxis, learning to turn a computer on, and how making games has changed drastically since Gettysburg! was developed.
