Embarking on the teaching journey is an exhilarating and rewarding experience, but it can also be daunting, especially during that crucial first year in the classroom. New teachers face many challenges, from lesson planning to classroom management, engaging students, and balancing work-life demands. However, with the right mindset and strategies, surviving and thriving through that inaugural year is entirely within reach. In Episode 263 of the Class Dismissed Podcast, we talk with Helena Hains—the creator of The Present Teacher website and resources. Hains offers teachers strategies to leave work on time and avoid working extra on the weekends.  One of the time management hacks she shares with us is "batching." Batching is a time management technique where you group similar tasks and tackle them all at once rather than addressing them individually throughout the day. It's like consolidating your efforts into focused blocks of time. I am joined for the Landmark Episode 175 by The Present Teacher, Helena Hains. A teacher and a coach for first year and new teachers. When Helena graduated in 2018 with her M.Ed in Elementary Education from Eastern Oregon University at the age of 20. Helena moved to Pecos, New Mexico to teach Kindergarten for 3 years. During this time she became overwhelmed and reached teacher burnout and was diagnosed with depression and anxiety during her first year of teaching. From there Helena learned everything about time management and found a way to complete her teacher workload so that she could leave at contract time during my 2nd year of teaching. During this time, Helena decided to start The Present Teacher, a community where new and first year teachers could learn how to manage their workload in the classroom so they can enjoy their life outside of teaching. During this time Helena also created the Thriving Teacher Framework. A framework that helps new and first year teachers management their workload and have a thriving career. The stages are as follows: classroom management, communication, lesson planning and prepping, data and grading, organization, and teacher workload. Last week the Alabama Supreme Court ruled that frozen embryos created for in-vitro fertilization have the legal status of children, essentially ending all IVF treatments in the state. Some are applauding the ruling as both a morally and theologically consistent affirmation of human life. But others, including some Christians, are saying the pro-life movement is taking things too far. Then, how do we teach kids the core doctrines of the Christian faith when most adults in our churches don't know them either? Kaitlyn interviews the creators of a new series of children's books designed to catechize both kids and their parents. Also this week, a new survey suggests Christian Nationalism is in decline, but we think the data is hot garbage.   Holy Post Plus Holy Post Office - Should We Submit to Pastors? https://www.patreon.com/posts/99317884/   0:00 - Intro 2:13- Show Starts 3:47 - Theme Song 4:09 - Sponsor - Hiya Health - Go to www.hiyahealth.com/HOLYPOST to receive 50% off your first order 5:14 - Sponsor - Fabric by Gerber Life Join the thousands of parents who trust Fabric to protect their family. Former Secretary of State Lord Peter Hain's remarkable life was forged in crisis. His parents' peaceful but determined activism against apartheid – and the drama that surrounded his family as a result – was the backdrop to Peter's upbringing in South Africa. The Hains were constantly harassed – and at one stage jailed by the South African security services. When a close family friend was convicted and executed for the bombing of a railway station – an attack which his family condemned – it was Peter, aged just 15, who spoke at the funeral. Peter's parents moved to the UK in 1966 … exiled from the country they loved. He joined the British anti-apartheid movement and aged just 19 became the Chairman of the infamous Stop the 70 Tour which organised direct action against South Africa's proposed cricket tour of England. A major success for the anti-apartheid movement. Peter's campaigning led to him being followed and bugged by Mi5, receiving death threats and becoming the subject of an assassination attempt. A life in British politics beckoned for Peter … but not before more extraordinary drama and crisis. As a Labour politician he held office as Welsh Secretary, Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, and Northern Ireland Secretary, playing a key role in negotiating the power sharing settlement in 2007.His time in politics also brought more personal crisis – a donations scandal that he described as a ‘soul searing experience' Now in the Lords, Peter continues to campaign and as an author he's written 29 books including biographies of Mandela, his own brilliant biography A Pretoria Boy and a series of novels focused on the crisis of animal conservation. The latest, The Elephant Conspiracy (see link below) has just been released. Lexham Press associate publisher, Todd Hains, joins Kelsi in this episode to discuss his book, Martin Luther and the Rule of Faith, and the importance of reading and interpreting Scripture based upon the ancient catechism, or rule of faith. Kelsi asks how the catechism - comprised of the 10 Commandments, the Lord's Prayer, and the Apostles' Creed - came to be, and how we can assert it's authority as an interpretive norm for the entirety of Scripture. Todd argues that it's the generality of the catechism that, in fact, gives it specificity in our lives. In this episode, we sit down with Todd Hains, editor, and Natasha Kennedy, illustrator, who together have shaped the creation and launch of a new children's books series called "FatCat" that aims to make the practice of catechism both accessible and engaging for children and families alike. There are three books in the series so far (Apostles' Creed, Lord's Prayer, and King of Christmas) with more to come in 2023.  About FatCat Books  How can anyone, no matter how young or old, grasp the message of the Bible? The church's answer has always been the catechism. Maybe “catechism” sounds like a scary word. But it shouldn't! The catechism teaches us what the Bible teaches us: our faith. The church's catechism is the central texts of faith—the Apostles' Creed, the Ten Commandments, and the Lord's Prayer. The catechism is “fat.” It's bursting at the seams with meaning, challenge, and comfort. It's concise, but it's also deep. Most importantly, it should be familiar. FatCat is a way of making the catechism approachable. And so this book has an actual fat cat hidden throughout. Search for him with your child as you enjoy this book together, and hide the words of the catechism in your heart. Learn more at the Lexham Press website.

We listened to stories, in his own voice, about his time in Smackover, Arkansas, playing football for the University of Arkansas Razorbacks, winning a national championship and his time with the Super Bowl III Champion New York Jets. I want to give a heartfelt thank you to Logan Weber, my producer, and to my co-hosts Ned Reynolds and Art Hains. Toronto-based journalist David Hains joins the pod on the eve of Trump's exit from the White House, in the wake of the insurrection at the Capitol on January 6. Many people in the melee were members of QAnon, an elaborate pro-Trump online conspiracy theory that has picked up more believers during this pandemic year. QAnon hates Hollywood for its supposedly depraved celebrities but ironically much of their language and belief structure comes from their misunderstanding of certain (unlikely) Hollywood movies, in particular Ridley Scott's forgettable 1996 boys-on-the-high-seas adventure White Squall. We talk about other random movies that influence the QAnon community's conspiracy theories, including The Godfather, Part III (?!?!) and Dan Crenshaw's recent “Georgia Reloaded” political commercial, with his problematic appropriation of Marvel movie imagery that inspired the most deranged of Trump's supporters. How will this movement handle reality potentially shattering their certainty? Plus: after his recent feud with Warner Bros, will Cyborg survive the Snyder Cut of Justice League? Follow David Hains on Twitter. In this episode we posed another challenge for our Hall of Fame broadcast duo, Ned Reynolds and Art Hains. This is their fourth, and I am confident to say, their most difficult challenge to date! Our first challenge was play by play of a sushi chef at Nakato Steakhouse (Springfield's First and Finest Japanese Steakhouse). They did a great job with this, so we then challenged them to play “Play by Play Charades” as they described a sport to a panel without naming the sport. That was hard, but they stepped up and fought through like champs! Our third challenge was miniature golf as we tracked a group playing at Fun Acre in Springfield, Missouri. This current challenge, well….let me just say was scary to accept. They never know where we are going and when we pulled up to Hotel of Terror…both were apprehensive about this task. I challenged them to follow a group of young women through a haunted house and perform play by play of the scene and their reactions. After they recovered from the shocking proposal, they both accepted, and we were whisked away in a hearse to Dungeons of Doom for our adventure. This was a hard one! Please know that there is a lot of background noise, focus on their voices, but what do you expect? It's a haunted house! My thanks to Sterling Mathis, owner and operator of Hotel of Terror and Dungeons of Doom for allowing this half-baked idea to actually come to fruition. Also, thank you to Hailey Jo Hopkins, Mary Beth and Mia Payne for being brave enough to be our subjects of the play by play.

Hrsg.

It's challenge time again! We, again, challenged Ned Reynolds and Art Hains, to a Play by Play/Color Analyst escapade. Our first challenge was to have them perform play by play and color analyst work on a Hibachi chef at Nakato Japanese Steakhouse. They passed that endeavor. We then challenged them to “Play by Play” charades with a panel of judges (Don Louzader, Jeff Burnett, and Misty Ramsey). Again, they passed with flying colors. Our latest challenge for these two Hall of Famers, consisted of broadcasting the 1st Annual ACP Championship Event of miniature golf! My thanks to our host course, Fun Acre in Springfield, Missouri! Our finalists were Don Louzader (Two-time Open Champion at Fun Acre, ACP's baseball correspondent), C.J. Ball (Drury Women's Golf Coach), and Jeff Burnett (our Kansas City Chiefs Superfan). It was a tight race and our broadcasters filled our listeners with action-packed intensity as we moved from hole to hole. In the end, however, the bronze medal was awarded to Coach C.J. Ball, the Silver to Jeff Burnett, and the Gold….no surprise…to course champion Don Louzader! My thanks to all that made this challenge an enjoyable event. Welcome to February and Episode 51 of the Tailgate Guys BBQ Show Podcast. This week, it’s a rare three-guest show as the guys review the big game from all the football, food and entertainment angles. Our featured guest Richard Fergola of Fergolicious BBQ wasn’t at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami for Super Bowl LIV, but he was nearby. Richard and Rub Bagby of Florida-based Swamp Boys BBQ teamed up to cook a gigantic Chiefs-themed tailgate in nearby Hollywood, Florida. Richard tells us how they pulled it off - and about the championship buzz back home in Kansas City. We also welcome Art Hains, studio host on the Chiefs Radio Network, to tell us about what the championship means to a lifelong fan like himself. Art also ranks his favorite BBQ spots in Kansas City and shows that he knows his stuff. There’s a new/old KCBS competition coming to Springfield, Mo., this April. The Ozarks BBQ Fest replaces the 20-year Rock N Ribs BBQ Festival and we get the details from Larry Krauck of the Ozarks Empire Fairgrounds. The $20,000 prize should attract plenty of attention. Thanks to our sponsors who make it all the fun possible: Blues Hog, The Butcher Shoppe, Code 3 Spices, The BBQ Central Show, Affordable Income Tax & Payroll, the Ozarks BBQ Alliance and Royal Oak Charcoal. Happy New Year! Wow! 2020! What an exciting time! We ring in the New Year with another challenge for our legendary duo, Art Hains and Ned Reynolds. These two broadcast gurus decided to accept another test from Coach Hopkins. We met at Ebbett's Field (thank you – such a great place to eat and catch up on the latest sports scene) and, this time, had a panel of judges/studio audience. We hosted our St. Louis Cardinals correspondent, Don Louzader who did a terrific job and is always a welcome guest on the show. We also had one of my former assistants and current school principal Misty Ramsey join us for the first-and after her performance definitely not her last-appearance! We also hosted my younger brother, and Kansas City Chiefs Superfan, Jeff Burnett-one of my favorites to have on the airwaves. The challenge was to play, what I now like to call, Play by Play Charades. I showed a one-minute video clip to Ned and Art of a lesser known sport – but still nationally or globally recognized –and, without saying what sport it is, they painted the picture so that the panel could guess. The panel had dry erase boards and after one minute, they wrote down what sport they felt like Ned and Art described. We went through 14 sports! It was fun, some they knew and some, well, I had to have some that “stumped the chumps”. Jeff was the winner with seven correct and we had a great time playing (cue dramatic music in your mind)…Play by Play Charades! Listen to the show and give it a try, see how many you get! My thanks, again, to Ebbett's Field for their hospitality. Also, thank you to Greg Burnett for compiling and selecting the sports and videos, he did an excellent job! We hit sports from all around the world. Kudos to Ned Reynolds and Art Hains for, again, proving how they are the sports broadcast legends of this area and to my stellar panel Don Louzader, Misty Ramsey, and Jeff Burnett – you all were wonderful sports and we appreciated your valued participation!

While we know Bryant will love this episode, we are confident many others will too because Bryant had some great questions on a variety of topics. Here are the questions we answer in this episode:   Art/creativity topics -What do you do once you’ve accomplished your dream or career goal, especially if it’s sooner than you thought? Now what? -Discipline vs inspiration. Do you get up and work at it every day or do you do other things and wait for the bolt of inspiration to come? -How do you get past the “what’s the point” or “I’m wasting my time” feeling when you run into it while working on a project? -History of Christian art vs Christian art today. Are we victims of our own success after creating some of the best visual art (Michaelangelo, etc) and music (Bach, etc) in history? What happened to the greatness? Anything left to do? -Your opinions on the church being a patron of the arts in history vs now?   Family topics -Keeping the fire alive with the wife even after many years and/or kids -Work life balance: does it exist and tactics to maintain it -Opinions and tactics for how to prevent work burnout/when to go on vacation -Wife/husband roles and responsibilities in each of your families. Suggestions for others.  -Balancing guy time vs family time -You all (and I) love tobacco and alcohol in moderation. Where is the line? Difference between those things and other drugs?   Silly topics -Each of your Kevin bacon scores -dumb hobbies you each have -Home diy failures/successes -getting kids to eat tricks -getting kids to sleep tricks -Embarrassing work or something that you hope doesn’t crop up on YouTube/internet

Small, cheap and deadly – sea mines can bring maritime traffic to a screeching halt. To address this threat, NATO’s mine hunters patrol the waters 365 days a year. Sea mines are devastating weapons. Cheap to produce and relatively easy to field, they can make shipping lanes and straits impassable to military and civilian maritime traffic. Even the threat of sea mines can bring economies to a standstill. To address the threat of sea mines, the Standing NATO Mine Countermeasures Groups (SNMCMGs) patrol the Alliance’s waters 365 days a year. In this piece, the commander of SNMCMG2, which is currently charged with securing the Mediterranean Sea region, explains how NATO counters the danger of sea mines, and also how the flotilla provides a humanitarian service by neutralizing unexploded ordnance from conflicts past. Footage includes shots of the naval group at sea; shots of mine clearance divers entering the water; shots of underwater drones; and an interview with Commander Justin Hains, UK Royal Navy, who leads Group 2. Hains will turn over command of the group in July. About Standing NATO Maritime Groups: The four Standing Maritime Groups are multinational, integrated maritime forces made up of vessels from allied countries. These vessels are under continuous NATO command to perform a wide range of tasks ranging from deterrent presence and situational awareness to exercises and the conduct of operational missions. These groups provide NATO with an immediate operational response capability both in peacetime and in crisis. These four groups comprise the core of the maritime component of the Very High Readiness Joint Task Force (VJTF), providing timely maritime support to NATO operations in a contingency.
