The pundits and prognosticators got it mostly right: It was the midterm election ofchecks and balances, divergence between rural and suburban, the year of the “fired upfemale graduate,” and an electorate voting in large part on presidential approval ratingsrather than economic satisfaction, including tax cuts. What does it all mean?

The game is afoot! The dice are cast! The candles are in the wind! Other detective-y things! Look, there's a lot of questions right now. Like: What is Mueller up to? We're way out of our wheelhouse on this one, but fortunately Dr. Debora Ferreira, a professor of Portugese and Latin American Studies took the time to be our guide. She sat down with Varal, Bonzinho, and Azul to chat about what's going on in Brazil these days, the dubious WhatsApp political ads, gang violence, police violence in the favelas, Bolsonaro's relationship with military leaders and agribusiness, and what the heck this might all mean for capoeira. Sucão joined us for a second conversation where we tried to fill him in. OTS bumbles through the political landscape.
67% voter turnout recorded at 3 pm in Mizoram. Forty-two VVPATs, 25 ballot units and 19 control units were replaced, following malfunctions at various polling stations across Mizoram. Former chief minister of Mizoram Zoramthanga, who was in power from 1998 to 2008, said that he was confident that his party MNF would win this time in a landslide victory. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla cast his vote at Zarkawt at around 12:15 pm. He is hopeful to win simple majority by bagging more than 27 seats. The chief minister had also said that the Congress would not forge post poll alliance with the BJP. the Congress would not forge post poll alliance with the BJP.
Happy Thanksgiving from Behind Enemy Lines Radio! This week, Gene flies solo-ish and talks about the dissension in the Democratic ranks exposed this week, when Congressional Democrats signed a letter of "no confidence" in Nancy Pelosi for Speaker of the House - and even then how Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez broke down the politics of division even further. Because, apparently, some progressives are more "real" than others. Even the Women's March organizers are fighting among themselves and dividing not only by gender, but by race. Then, Gene talks to BEL Contributor Nat Paul about his recent series of articles about reforming the Electoral College. It's a healthy discussion of differing points of view on the topic of why it exists, and what, if anything, should be done to change the process for upcoming Presidential elections. And, with 2020 just around the corner, now is as good of a time as any to talk about this and more.

Internal medicine physician Dr. Annette Bosworth joins the show to give her expert advice on how to behave appropriately with family to gain maximum happiness from the season and your interactions with loved ones. The mainstream media has been accused of spreading "fake news" and pushing phony narratives by all sides of the political spectrum. Gene and Russ break down the breakdown in elections administration and the latest controversy in... you guessed it - Florida! The boys discuss the news coming out of the national embarrassment that were the elections for Governor and U.S. Senate in Florida. Were invalidated votes mixed with valid ones? Why does chain of custody matter? And they can't help but regale their own glory days of when they were winning elections in the "People's Republic of" New York. And hang around for the end of the show, where we bring back a Veteran's Day GEM from the "Brooklyn GOP Radio" days that involves our own "Yak Attack" and some horrible singing of a beautiful patriotic standard (Russ made us do it.)
Tom discusses the aftermath of the midterm elections. He feels that both parties face their own individual challenges and also discusses perhaps the biggest unknown still ahead: the results of the Mueller investigation.

Hey, did you bring a surfboard? Because we're still on a BLUE WAVE. When Dan and Maureen recorded last week, it was right on the high of the election of the night before. No sooner had they left the basement/closet, then all heck broke loose. Trump did a weird, weird press event and then stormed into the depths of the castle to boot Jeff Sessions from the parapet. And while we all enjoy the sight of a flying Jeff Sessions, we also had to wonder: WITHER MUELLER? And what do these rolling election results mean? Obviously, Dan and Maureen don't know anything. Time for an expert! Today's guest, Imani Gandy, is a lawyer and co-host of the podcast Boom! Lawyered! and she is HOPEFUL! Or gassy. We are not sure anymore. We think it is hope but it has been a while. Her conversation is like a REFRESHING SWIM IN A LOVELY SEA. The kind of place you'd find a BLUE WAVE. Tune in for some liquid sunshine, legal style! Hey gang. This is one of those episodes that can't get a cohesive title. This is all over the place Wine Cellar News and Comment. We got our vote on over here in Illinois right before coming home and going live. But we got to do without being met with a racist and his German Shepherd. The #GoodCop beat up four cis women in one setting. ....and alligator farms exist. Maybe this should have been a Wednesday story. Link to help us out at Patreon Hey gang. You know that recent massive market sell-off?—The one that dropped over 1,000 points from the Dow in just 2 days? I was a reminder that –when it comes to the economy—we’re not out of the woods yet. And if Democrats win the mid-terms, we could get more shocks like we saw in early October. The polarized politics of our day, the mob tactics, and the attacks on the President and his party have dominated the news. I fear we’ve lost sight of the economic reasons to vote in November. The tax cut passed last year and boosted every sector of the economy. Republicans want to pass another one which could extend those gains for years. Democrats want to repeal the last one. Republicans want to unleash business; Democrats want to tighten the leash. The election is on us: If you’re interested in a strong economy and a strong stock market, you need to vote for growth policies in November.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

After an absolutely full-on week for the Act On Climate team, we kick back and talk about the week's events in a more laid-back style. Halfway through the series, and the election run-up, and the nature of the campaign is starting to change. We wrap up the big events and actions AoC had planned, and executed, and note that the action now pivots to a more nimble, reactive role. Stay tuned for a lot of updates, but now, they'll be surprises! Special Guest: Leigh Ewbank. Support Climactic See /privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

On Capitol Hill, the transition from legislating to campaigning has begun. In the House, members are back in their districts until after election day. In the Senate, apart from the confirmation vote for Supreme Court nominee Brett Cavanaugh, senators are wrapping up just a few major pieces of legislation before they begin their own recess. Loran Dugan, editorial director at Bloomberg Government, joined Federal Drive with Tom Temin on Federal News Radio to talk more about the Senate's unfinished business.
Climactic goes behind the scenes with Act on Climate, Friends of the Earth's premiere political action group, as they gear up to fight a pivotal state election. This one's for you if you've ever wondered what political/climate activism is really like. And, spoiler alert, they're a bunch of relatable, earnest, caring people. This is the first miniseries from Climactic made in collaboration with an environmental group, and we couldn't have a better partner in this than Act on Climate. For the next 8 weeks we'll be sharing their stories, which they're already telling every Monday night at FoE Smith Street, Fitzroy, and on their excellent Twitter, Facebook, and blog. Links below. If this has sparked an interest in you to get involved in this, or other campaigns, feel free to come along or drop a message to them.
