Whether it's whining, shouting, tears, or shutdowns, we unpack how reinforcement, not manipulation, shapes behavior—and what we can do to stop accidentally teaching kids to rely on emotional outbursts to get what they want.Perfect for anyone with kids or working with kids, this episode delivers:· Why kids lean on emotional reactions (and how they get reinforced)· How to stop giving mixed signals without shutting down expression· Tools to validate emotion without rewarding behavior· Consistent boundaries that build real emotional skillPrefer to WATCH?Homework IdeasAudit Your Reactions· Track one situation where a child whines, yells, or shuts down· Write down your response· Ask: Did I reinforce the behaviour? It's rare that the fae and the dead have much to do with each other, which is surprising given that within the latter category, the wraiths called Sandmen are oneiromancers extraordinaire. Manipulating the dreams of mortals from beyond the grave, they should be one of the more likely sorts of Prodigal a changeling may encounter. They are suggested as antagonists (in the C20 corebook, if not elsewhere), but what do these dramatic ghosts get up to on their own time? We're opening up their splatbook, Guildbook: Sandmen, to answer this question and learn more about being a theatre person for all eternity, for better or worse. Perhaps you'll be inspired to introduce them on the fringes of dreams in your own game for an unsettling bit of mystery... We'd love to hear from you. What are your thoughts and questions? In this conversation, Dr. Allen Lomax and Bill Westrom delve into the complexities of family finances, exploring Bill's unique journey into financial strategy and the revolutionary concept of Credit Line Banking. They discuss the alarming state of consumer debt in America, the misconceptions surrounding traditional financial advice, and the importance of understanding money flow within the economy. Bill emphasizes the need for a paradigm shift in how individuals manage their finances, advocating for education over mere assistance in financial matters. In this conversation, Bill discusses the flaws in the traditional banking system and presents his innovative approach to managing money through 'Credit Line Banking.' He emphasizes the importance of changing the flow of money, understanding sweep accounts, and leveraging financial strategies to reduce debt and interest costs. Bill also outlines his unique service offering, which includes a personalized approach to financial education and a six-month guarantee for his clients.Main Points: Bill Westrom's journey into financial strategy was accidental but driven by passion.Teaching financial literacy is more impactful than simply providing help. The economy's health is directly tied to individual money flow.Consumer debt in America has reached alarming levels, with many struggling to manage it.Debt is often misunderstood; it's the repayment terms that create issues.Traditional financial advice may not serve the best interests of consumers.Understanding the real cost of debt is crucial for financial health. The average American faces significant deductions from their income due to taxes and debt payments.Financial strategies should be reevaluated to better serve consumers' needs. The banking system operates on a model that may not be transparent to consumers. His interest in tendons grew from personal injuries and working with military athletes. Understanding tendons requires recognizing their complexity and variability. Different tissues in the body respond to different types of training. Tendons need strain to gain strength and resilience. Training should not just focus on one position or angle. Low intensity durability is crucial for tendon health. High intensity repeatability helps in sustaining performance under strain. The bigger the base of connective tissue strength, the higher the peak performance. Innovative training methods can help address specific tendon issues effectively. Endurance athletes experience significant tendon strain but manage it effectively. Connective tissue behavior is crucial for injury prevention. Genetics play a role in tendon health and injury susceptibility. Assessing connective tissue is essential for understanding injury risk. Training should focus on restoring normal connective tissue architecture. Manipulating load, length, and time is key to adaptation. Static training is often overlooked in favor of dynamic work. Integrating multiple training qualities is necessary for performance. Understanding adaptations is more important than just knowing exercises. Progressive overload is essential for long-term connective tissue health.   Notes: https://jackedathlete.com/podcast-138-tendons-with-taylor-starch/

In this episode of Evolving, Nita Jain talks with Richard Sprague, a software engineer, quantified self enthusiast, and co-founder of personal health tracking startups. Sprague discusses the complexities of the microbiome, the limitations of single-point microbiome testing, and the importance of longitudinal sampling. He shares insights from his extensive self-experimentation data collection, discussing fasting, probiotics, and the impact of alcohol on glucose levels. Sprague also touches on how personal science can empower individuals to optimize their health by tailoring approaches to fit their unique biological responses. The Journey into Personal ScienceRichard Sprague's journey into personal science began with his background in software engineering and an early fascination with computers. Observing the parallels between computer systems and human biology, he developed an interest in tracking genes and other biological markers. This led him to explore how personal experimentation can inform individual health insights—a theme central to the quantified self movement. Are We Human or Are We Computers?Sprague dives into the complexities of the human microbiome—an intricate system comprising trillions of microorganisms living in and on our bodies—and emphasizes that comparing the microbiome to a computer algorithm oversimplifies its complexity. The human microbiome is a dynamic system influenced by a myriad of factors, including genetics, environment, and lifestyle.Jain and Sprague discuss the challenges of microbiome testing and the importance of longitudinal sampling to capture a more accurate picture of the gut microbiome. Richard emphasizes that single-point microbiome tests can be misleading due to the natural diurnal variation and the inherent compositional problem in sampling.Promise & Pitfalls of Microbiome TestingOne of the key pitfalls in interpreting microbiome results is the variability introduced at multiple stages of microbiome testing, from sample collection to data processing. Sprague highlights the significance of working with the same lab using consistent protocols to ensure reliable results. He also emphasizes the importance of understanding that many factors can skew microbiome readings, leading to potentially misleading conclusions. The Power of Self-ExperimentationSprague introduces the concept of personal science, or n-of-one studies, where individuals engage in self-experimentation to find what works best for their unique biology. He shares insights from his own experiments with kombucha, probiotics, and dietary interventions like fasting, highlighting how these experiences have informed his understanding of his microbiome and overall health.Embracing Curiosity and MindfulnessSprague stresses the importance of maintaining curiosity and skepticism about health practices and recommendations and encourages listeners to be mindful of their own body and health, considering personal experimentation as a powerful tool for gaining insights and making informed decisions.Subscribe to the podcast at nitajain.com!Time Stamps00:00 Richard Sprague's Background00:45 Journey into Tech and Personal Science02:32 Complexity of Human Biochemistry vs. Computers05:24 Microbiome Testing and Its Challenges06:52 Pitfalls in Interpreting Microbiome Results16:57 Personal Science and Self-Experimentation25:06 The Impact of Microbiome on Health25:47 Personal Microbiome Discoveries27:19 Critical Windows for Microbiome Development28:00 Manipulating the Microbiome31:58 Microbiome and Disease Hypotheses36:25 Fasting and Microbiome Health39:11 Personal Science and Self-Experimentation45:17 Surprising Personal Experiment Results47:19 Conclusion and Final Thoughts Get full access to Evolving with Nita Jain at www.nitajain.com/subscribe

The Non-Prophets
Why the moral panic over "grooming" is so effective at manipulating the right-wing mind

Salon, Matthew Rosza, January 30, 2023 http://bit.ly/3xcJxyHThis segment discusses the moral panic surrounding the term "grooming," particularly in relation to LGBTQ+ people, and how it is being weaponized by right-wing politicians, particularly in Florida under Ron DeSantis. Historically, moral panics have been used to demonize specific groups—examples include the witch hunts and the Nazis' rise to power. The latest iteration of this tactic is the banning of books and restricting discussions around LGBTQ+ topics in schools under the pretense of "protecting children." The panel critiques the effectiveness of this fear-based messaging, pointing out that invoking child safety is an emotional trigger that stirs public outrage, even when there's no factual basis. The term "grooming" is being misused to conflate LGBTQ+ identities with pedophilia, despite no evidence supporting such a connection. Instead of addressing actual risk factors for child abuse—such as poverty, lack of education, and inadequate mental health services—conservatives are using the "grooming" narrative as a political weapon. They also highlight the hypocrisy of these fearmongers, who ignore well-documented abuses within religious institutions like the Catholic Church. The discussion expands to how right-wing leaders, including DeSantis, use these tactics to rally their base by creating an "us vs. them" mentality, turning marginalized communities into scapegoats. The panel draws parallels to past laws in the UK, like Section 28, which banned "promoting" homosexuality, a vague and harmful policy that took over a decade to repeal. Ultimately, the panel argues that real child protection efforts should focus on economic stability, education, and community support rather than scapegoating LGBTQ+ people or banning books. The fear-mongering around grooming isn't about protecting kids—it's about controlling the narrative and demonizing marginalized communities for political gain. The Non-Prophets, Episode 24.10.1 featuring Jason Sherwood, Aaron Jensen, Richard Firth-Godbehere and Scott Dickie.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-non-prophets--3254964/support.

Since Scientology gave birth to Silva Mind Control, Leadership or Mind Dynamics and est, in the 1960s, there has been an industry in 'large group awareness trainings' (LGATs), including The Forum, Landmark Education, Lifespring and Tony Robbins. Wikipedia tells us LGATs 'may compromise participants' mental wellbeing'. Dr John Hunter realized that the LGAT he attended at his boss's request claimed the symptoms of hypomania (excessive elation) as 'transformations'. After two decades of research, John has published an excellent book suggesting that LGATs and many other forms of conversion use stress and humiliation to generate the brain's reward chemical dopamine which is then released in a gush of elation - hypomania. Studies have shown that these euphoric states are transient and often result in broken marriages and careers as well as mental breakdowns and even psychosis.John's new book is a vital insight into the ways in which even highly intelligent people's critical thinking is bypassed. He argues that many religious conversions may be based in this simple neurological process. The conversation highlights the biopsychosocial model in understanding pain. David emphasizes the need for less frequent loading for patellofemoral pain compared to tendon pain. Jake questions the structural understanding of patellofemoral pain and its implications for rehab. David shares his personal journey with Achilles tendinopathy and its impact on his athletic performance. The discussion reveals the common pitfalls in calf raise exercises for Achilles rehab. David advocates for high intensity and low frequency in calf raise training. The conversation concludes with insights on the differences between patellar and Achilles tendon management. Rehabbing an Achilles rupture requires careful management of tendon lengthening. Overcoming isometrics are effective for strengthening the Achilles during rehab. Real-world experiences can often contradict existing literature on rehabilitation. Personal experiences with tendon injuries highlight the unpredictability of recovery. Genetics may play a significant role in tendon injuries and recovery. Partial ruptures should be approached with caution, similar to tendinopathy. Pain response is less significant in Achilles rehabilitation compared to other injuries. It's crucial to focus on loading techniques rather than just range of motion. The literature on tendon injuries can be misleading and should be interpreted with caution. Effective rehabilitation requires pushing patients as hard as possible without exceeding their limits. Isometrics can clarify what's working in rehab. Varying surfaces can enhance Achilles rehab. Manipulating center of mass is crucial for rehab. Movement variety is often overlooked in rehab. Tendon mechanics play a significant role in recovery. Heel wedges can provide relief for insertional pain. Upper body tendons require a different approach. Movement variability is essential for upper limb function. Older athletes often lack movement variety and variability. A holistic approach to rehab includes strength, mobility, and control.   David's Website: https://davidgreyrehab.com David's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/davidgreyrehab/?hl=en Notes: https://jackedathlete.com/podcast-124-tendons-with-david-grey/

Why did the Biden White House celebrate Transgender Day of Visibility on Easter Sunday? Why is the bureaucracy prioritizing electric vehicles and less reliable forms of energy when Americans struggle to pay the bills amid historic inflation and higher gas prices? America's bureaucrats appear to live on a different planet from the working class in this country, and that's no accident. The Woketopus explains how America's elites are pulling the strings in Washington to prioritize their pet projects over the needs of the American people.
