There were several notable Penn State recruiting prospects at the Under Armour camp in Baltimore on Sunday, and the BWI Daily Recruiting show was there to see them perform. Host Greg Pickel and recruiting insider Ryan Snyder was on-hand to see the Class of 2023 and beyond test and compete during the final weekend of March. So, they'll tell you the major news and observations that came out of the event on the show.  They start with four-star linebacker Tony Rojas. He delivered some significant and rare news to Snyder on Sunday, which Snyder retells on the show. Next, they discuss the top schools in Rojas's recruitment and then give their thoughts on how he looked and performed at the camp.  After that, Snyder breaks down what he saw from players positionally, starting with quarterbacks. The first two quarterbacks he mentions are Stone Saunders from Bishop McDevitt and Michael Van Buren from St. Frances Academy. So what did he see from them on a windy day? Next, Snyder explains how the weather hindered the camp, especially for the passing game. Finally, Pickel calls into question how useful recruiting camps are for evaluating quarterbacks.  After discussing the tight ends and receivers at the camp, Pickel follows up with his thoughts on Penn State offensive line commit Anthony Donkoh's day. It was the first chance to see the four-star lineman up close for both Snyder and Pickel, who were impressed with how Donkoh rebounded from a slower start to the day. Next, Snyder explains where Penn State hopes that the Virginia native fits into their recruiting class.  The most important and loaded group of the day was the defensive line. It's a stacked group in the region for the Class of 2023 and 2024, so Snyder goes through the names in the group, which includes edge Desmond Umeozulu, stand out defensive tackle of the day Sydir Mitchell, Congo native Joseph Mupoyi, and 2024 edge Dominic Nichols just to name a few.  They filter through the other important Penn State targets that were on hand Sunday before getting to the other important news of the weekend. Four-star athlete Neeo Avery de-committed from the university on Sunday and was on hand to explain his decision to Pickel. Snyder and Pickel go through what happened and what comes next for Penn State and Avery.  Finally, they discuss the players visiting Penn State over the last three days. Van Buren made his way to Happy Valley before camp, as did 2023 DB Amare Snowden. Monday, Tennessee native and four-star receiver Justin Brown made his way to campus. It was a busy offseason for Penn State sports, even if there weren't many games or matches this weekend. Host of the BWI Daily Edition, Thomas Frank Carr runs down the weekend's news with reporter Greg Pickel, who joins the show each Monday.  Pickel covers wrestling for BWI, so they start with the Nittany Lions 19-13 win over Iowa in a battle of the top two teams in the nation. Finally, he provides a preview of what's to come this week.  After finishing up wrestling, T-Frank and Pickel discuss junior day for Penn State football. The Nittany Lions are concluding the open contact period in January and had a jam-packed weekend with top recruits from several classes in attendance.  While the Class of 2023 is the primary focus, Pickel starts with the Class of 2022 and a late target in Vega Ioane, an offensive lineman from Washington. After his official visit, Pickel caught up with Ioane this weekend and shared what he had learned. Ioane chooses between Penn State and Washington on Wednesday, and Pickel thinks it's a close race. Brian Boles, a Baltimore native, serves as a Senior Development Officer at the Johns Hopkins Carey Business School working to raise money for the school and helping to integrate the school into the Baltimore community through social impact work. Prior to joining the Carey Business School, he served as the Director of Major and Corporate Gifts at Catholic Charities of Baltimore. Brian also served as the Director of Development and Community Relations at St. Frances Academy in East Baltimore, in which role he helped to raise millions of dollars for the Academy. A graduate and fervent supporter of the Academy, Brian also previously served as a classroom teacher and head baseball coach for eight years. He has helped numerous students move on from St. Frances Academy to become student-athletes in college. In 2015, Brian was inducted into the Academy's inaugural class of the Athletic Hall of Fame. Brian previously served as Executive Director of the Books and Baseball Summer Camp Program, a baseball and scholastic program for kids ages 6 through 12 in Baltimore City, which he founded. The unique program was designed to build skills and develop the potential of young campers, both on the diamond and inside the four walls of the classroom during the summer months. He believes that life lessons taught through the game of baseball are a tremendous tool in character development. Brian was a professional baseball scout for eight years, ending his career with the Milwaukee Brewers. He began his scouting career with the Detroit Tigers and was with the organization in 2012 when the team captured the American League pennant. In 2016 Brian was recognized by the Baltimore Orioles as of one the first Birdland Community Hero for his work with Books and Baseball and at St. Frances Academy.
