He interviewed everyone from Paul McCartney to Willie Nelson for his long-running radio show, and he has written more than 50 books on the likes of Bob Dylan, Little Richard, and the Beatles. Now Spencer Leigh has written HIS autobiography, ' 80 @ 80 - A Liverpool Life', after more than 50 years throwing the spotlight on other people. He's our extra special guest in episode #32 of "Misadventures in Music" with Ian Prowse and Mick Ord..Get ready for tales of Dylan being booed in Liverpool and X-rated stories of Freddie Starr's wild antics at the Cavern before he was famous. Often, the “Paul's Page Turners” segment of the show can offer up some wild and unfathomable books to investigate, but this week's choice is a truly mad experience. Paul and Eli may be skeptics when it comes to all things supernatural, but they're willing to hear a story out if it shows promise. The book in question was sold in Cancer Research Charity Shops across the UK and is entitled, “The Show Must Go On: Book Two”. Written by a possibly naïve believer, Malcom Thorogood's proof of life after death comes in the form of visitations from one of the UK's most notorious 1980s light entertainers… Freddie Starr! The man who allegedly ate a hamster (!!) and dealt in high energy, near crazed comedy is now back from the dead to offer some mindboggling experiences from beyond the grave. Paul is gobsmacked and Eli doesn't believe one bit of it! But hey, if you don't like ghosts there's an “Off Brand Brand Off” segment to enjoy. Eli must rank FIVE orange soda brands to see if the Fanta or Tango brands are up to scratch compared to some considerably cheaper alternatives! See? There's something for everyone! Eyes & Teeth would not be here without the Royal Variety Performance, or TV Talent Shows and they were inspirations not just for a budding young ventriloquist wannabe in Basingstoke in 1987 but for 1000's of comedy, variety and musical acts for nearly a century.Today's guest is not only related to Lord Bernard Delfont and Lew Grade but he himself has made a huge impact behind the scenes keeping the cogs of showbusiness agencies thriving and the Royal variety charity and Brinsworth House the success they are today.Today we talk about Des O Connor, Arthur Worsley plus more ventriloquists, Freddie Starr and much more.I am blessed to share laughter and drinks with todays guest within the Grand Order of Water Rats in several lodges we frequent throughout each year getting together. My time in the Rats and performances in Brinsworth House means I have an opportunity to give back to the business I have chosen to get me through my lifetime.Because of that I am thankful to todays guest for looking out for us entertainers by showcasing us on the Command Performance or placing certain members of the business in a safe haven via the Royal Variety Charity.Welcome to Eyes & Teeth The World's Greatest Variety Show Ian Freeman.

Ginger and Nuts are award-winning radio presenters who burst onto the airwaves weekly with non-stop banter and unpredictability. It's no wonder they were voted 'Best Community Radio Show'.The quick-witted duo have a natural ability when putting their guests at ease and have indisputably interviewed some of the biggest names in showbiz. From the Disco Diva Gloria Gaynor, Bond Girl Britt Ekland, and boxing legend Nigel Benn to exclusives with the entire cast of ITV1s award-winning crime drama, 'The Bay. They have also had memorable chats with Sir Ken Dodd, Freddie Starr and John Challis ('Boycie' from Only Fools and Horses), who are all sadly no longer with us. With more than 30 years of radio experience between them, Ginger and Nuts have attracted support from Disney, Marvel and Empire Cinemas. Without blowing their trumpet too much, they also boast 20k fans on TikTok.Katherine said, "We were also born to be herd, so we are delighted to be joining Cotswolds Radio and hope to entertain your loyal listeners".FROM TV TO RADIODarren has previously presented slots on BBC Children In Need, alongside Alan Titchmarsh, in front of a live studio audience. More recently, he was featured on Life Stories with Piers Morgan supporting his friend, Michael Barrymore.Comedian Bob Monkhouse OBE who wrote comedy for the likes of the legendary Bob Hope, was also a fan of Darren's unique presenting style. He said: "You've got it all, Darren - energy, ideas, fluency, wit and charm. You come over the airwaves like a breezy friend and a really warm person. It's so important to be true to yourself and pour your natural personality into that microphone, and that's what you do. You have the common touch. "After listening to you, I felt I knew you and liked you."BEHIND THE MICFor 26 years, Darren worked as a PR and Marketing Guru for West Midlands Police and achieved more than 12 Commendations for his creativity. Using his cheeky charm, he enlisted the support of big names like Myleene Klass and Chris Tarrant to endorse a recruitment campaign for the Special Constabulary for free.He also produced a charity single, 'Bobby's Girl', with singer Hayley Evetts who reached the finals of Pop Stars alongside Will Young. Darren and three police officers were the backing singers providing the 'ahh-hums'. He managed to persuade comedian Joe Pasquale to add his dulcet tones to what was a fun single that not only raised funds for The John Taylor Hospice in Birmingham but also the profile of West Midlands Police. He met Katherine, who also worked for the police, and they decided to date after discussing who would bring the Black Pudding to the Christmas buffet. In case you wanted to know, Darren did - and it was a big 'un.Within a year, they hit the national headlines after pranking family and friends into thinking Darren was to star in a new movie. Needless to say, the guests turning up to the make-believe premiere were, in fact, attending their wedding at the cinema. The rest is history, as they say.MENTAL HEALTH AMBASSADORSOn a more serious note, Darren's release from chronic pain, fatigue and mental health is presenting the 'Ginger and Nuts' show weekly.Behind the mic, he has been diagnosed with various long-term debilitating conditions, including Arthritis, Spine Disease, Syringomyelia (cyst on the spinal cord) and Fibromyalgia (widespread pain). He had to give up the job he loved to do due to his decline in health. He openly talks about his struggles with chronic anxiety and depression, in which he has been under a psychiatrist for more than four years. To help manage his condition, he is under a pain management specialist and is prescribed many controlled drugs such as Morphine. As well as caring for Darren during his flare-ups, Katherine has had seven miscarriages and nearly died during the last miscarriage, which landed on Father's Day a few years ago. It was heartbreaking. Earlier this year, the pair raised £503.43p for the Give a Duck Foundation.

This week on the podcast, Colin chats with one of entertainment's hardest-working, most experienced stand-up comics, Jeff Stevenson, who takes us Behind The Scenes talking about his incredible career in comedy; his early TV success, changing with the times and how a return to acting (45 years after his screen debut in ‘Bugsy Malone') has recently won him international film awards and serious critical acclaim. Wayne Dobson was born in Leicester and was just a youngster when he discovered the fun of magic for the first time. At just 16 years of age became the youngest-ever member of the Leicester Magic Circle. Throughout his teens he worked on his magic becoming a real master and having great fun performing to friends and family, and the occasional show at his local youth club. "David Nixon, Pat Page, Roy Johnson and Ken Brooke were all great influences on me." Wayne was also inspired by another brilliant man of magic, Dai Vernon. "I think it was because of Dai Vernon's influence that I became so interested in close-up magic. He was revered, and rightly so, by all the modern-day magicians and illusionists. He was one of the great innovators. The 'Cups and Balls' routine was one of his specialities." At just 16 Wayne was demonstrating great flair and originality and started to pick up local engagements and club work, on a semi-professional basis. In 1977 he was a joint first prize winner in the close-up competition at the IBM British Ring Convention. This led to his television debut on BBC TV's Blue Peter. At just 21 he decided to become a professional magician. Wayne was achieving great things on the notoriously difficult British club circuit. His original style of magic with fast talking patter and hilarious split-second one liners was having its effect. A run of tours with some of the UK's top performers ensued; Wayne opened for Freddie Starr, Shirley Bassey and the Shadows. The TV companies picked up on Wayne's magic and he performed on a number of top shows. In 1988 accompanied Engelbert Humperdinck on a comprehensive American tour which saw him entertaining in Las Vegas, Lake Tahoe, Hollywood, Los Angeles, Atlantic City and Chicago. The tour was a tremendous success. Wayne was blessed with a rare talent for blending great humour and great magic, evidenced by the high regard accorded him by fellow entertainers. Dean Martin was a fan and took him to Las Vegas.. In 1988 he was diagnosed with MS, his future was redefined in a moment; his world became inverted and uncertain. In the face of such adversity most would be tempted to give it up, quietly fade away into the unknown. Wayne didn't give up, he saw it as a defining moment, he rose to the challenge, he continued to work, and he discovered his real and true friends like Joe Pasquale. Within the fraternity of magic he was regarded as an icon, frequently lecturing to the numerous societies up and down the country, his natural wit and ability to create wonderful magic effects found continuing favour. He was still a gifted entertainer and now he was to become an inspiration to others. In this interview Wayne looks back at his career at the highs and the lows. He talks about how to make a name for yourself in the magic industry, creativity and how anyone can be creative. He also talks about his hopes and dreams and also talks about his new series of books which should be published in December 2021.
