Today as a Christmas treat, we welcome all round entertainer Bobby Davro to the podcast for a chat about his TV career and his subsequent pantomime appearances, most notably with the legendary Mickey Rooney in Milton Keynes. Find out which pop star jumped out of a wardrobe while Bobby was impersonating him, who's annoying catchphrase he helped to cultivate, and why he could never be a contestant on I'm a Celebrity'. Hear the real story of how Bobby was badly injured filming a BBC game show, why he hated appearing on 'Dancing on Ice', and which other comedian he is often mistaken for. We also chat about the joy of finding old adverts within YouTube clips and how he got to impersonate the cast of 'Rainbow' to their actual faces. All music written and performed in this podcast by Steve Otis GunnPlease buy my book 'You Shot My Dog and I Love You' available in all good book shops, online and directly.Podcast Socials:Tik Tok: https://www.tiktok.com/@tvtimespodInsta: https://www.instagram.com/tvtimespodYoutube: https://www.youtube.com/@tvtimespodTwitter: https://twitter.com/tvtimespodSteve's Socials:Insta: https://www.instagram.com/steveotisgunnTwitter: https://www.twitter.com/steveotisgunnFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/steveotisgunn.antisocialBobby's Socials:Insta: https://www.instagram.com/bobbydavro1Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/p/Bobby-Davro-61551680181359Produced by Steve Otis Gunn for Jilted Maggotwww.jiltedmaggot.com Hosted on Acast. Star Trek's universe is bizarre and horrifying at times. Cosmic beings summon orcs to stab you in the back, alternate versions of your flagship get stuck in a wormhole, nonlinear entities get taught about time through memories of baseball, love and death. It's all a bit weird and we're going to revel in it today by talking about cosmic horror. Ships full of Vulcans get a rough time today, starting with The Immunity Syndrome where a space amoeba kills them and the rest of a solar system. Can the crew discover a solution when their energy and the ship's are rapidly dwindling? The next cosmic entity is Nagilum, who is self-aware, godlike and a real jerk! The Enterprise has to work out a solution to get this bastard off their back, but it might mean their own deaths! Wesley picks the best time to take a break from the Conn and we get some camera experiments to distract from this being a bottle episode. Finally we're back to tormenting a ship of Vulcans in Impulse, where they're driven into a mad, zombie-like rage! Not only are these T'Pol's old colleagues, but she's also infected. Can the crew survive until help comes? Also Trip & Mayweather get their fanciest gold spacesuits on to go all Minecraft on some asteroids. 00:01:33 What Non-Star Trek Thing We've Been Enjoying 00:15:02 Talking about Cosmic Horror 00:17:58 Star Trek: The Original Series “The Immunity Syndrome” 00:43:15 Star Trek: The Next Generation “Where Silence Has Lease” 01:11:03 Star Trek: Enterprise “Impulse” If anyone could do a cover of the Enterprise theme tune based on either the Donnie Darko “Mad World” or “Cotton Eye Joe” that would be amazing and we would give you a shout out for performing such madness. Bobby Davro is an absolute legend in the world of British Variety and Television from the 1980's onwards. I first met Bobby at the Wimbledon theatre when I was 16 and visiting puppeteer Simon Buckley who I had just recorded a TV show with in 1993 and he invited me to see his pantomime starring Bobby Davro. Bobby was gracious and always has been to me.We have since worked many variety shows or charity events together and he has me in tears of laughter each time and he is one of the best impressionists out there.Bobby tells me of his big break on TV where he ended his act with an impression of Elton John on the piano and this shot him to the title of a household name landing his own TV Series. We talk of his collaboration with ventriloquist Ray Alan as well as many more including his friendship with an icon of his in Gilbert O Sullivan and this includes Bobby's latest TV spot on BBC's Celebrity MastermindWe talk about Dave Evans, Frankie Vaughan, Bob Monkhouse, Les Dennis, Peter Kay & Sir Ken Dodd. One of my favourite subjects today was taking advice about daughters and Bobby explains it so well. I have to say I laughed a lot and I welled up on occasions, Bobby really does talk from the heart. He has been there and done it. His stage skills and advice is well worth taking in especially where learning routines and memory comes into it. This is something I struggle with.It has taken me 2 years to tie Bobby down for this interview but it was well worth the wait. Welcome to the World's Greatest Variety Show Bobby Davro

Happy new year and welcome back to our search for the worst album of all time. We've got a beauty for you this week as Steve and Remfry wrap their ears around Allow Us To Be Frank, the fifth studio album from Irish boyband sensation Westlife, released on the 8th of November 2004. At this point in their career, Westlife had become a license to print money, simply from being nice, faceless boys singing balladic cover versions of increasingly dislikeable songs. In early 2004, the band's only recognisable member, Brian McFadden, had left the group, leaving… er… the other four to soldier on regardless. Thanks to the insane success of Robbie Williams' Swing When You're Winning album, the music world was inundated with any-old-wanker donning a zoot suit and crooning out the hits of The Rat Pack. Some were fair enough; Seal? Sure. Micheal Bolton? Umm…if you like. Some were not; Bobby Davro? Definitely not. RON ATKINSON?! You've gone too far now! Never ones to have an original idea in their collective heads or pass up the opportunity to make a quick buck, Westlife's team (which included Louis Walsh and Simon Cowell) decided to get in on the swing revival and give the band a set of standards to karaoke their way through. The songs are undeniable and the members of Westlife have perfectly competent (if utterly soulless) singing voices but is that enough to save Allow Us To Be Frank from getting an absolute kicking?
Danny Posthill is a first class impressionist and is always working on something new whether it's a new character or idea for online content. In this chat today we talk about Mike Yarwood, Bobby Davro, Francine Lewis, Dianne Abbot, Donald Trump, Gazza, the grim reaper, Bgt and being on the road as an act.He performs some fantastic voices on here and has brilliant anecdotes so sit back and enjoy the many vocals of Danny Posthill.with a Tribute to The real Stand Up Paul Eastwood

On This Is Our Everest this week, your intrepid heroes watched the 1985 ITV quickfire comedy sketch and impressions show Copy Cats, an innocuous enough sounding task which actually pushed both men to the limits of human endurance. It's a show designed by history to explain why "Alternative Comedy" had to happen exactly when it did and nobody emerges unscathed from the whole sorry affair. There's something for everyone here: discriminatory humour, childish jokes, Bobby Davro and, inevitably, Peggy from Hi-Di-Hi; as well as largely unexpected appearances by E.L. Wisty and C.U. Jimmy, both of whom were fictional characters as far as we knew. It's neither big nor clever, and even Edward - a card-carrying juvenile buffoon - found the programme almost entirely unsatisfactory. Come gather round and bask in the warming glow of our pent-up rage and frustration. If you'd like to watch the programme, you can find it here on YouTube. More fool you, if you do. There’s a bunch of different ways in which you can subscribe to the 200% podcast. You can do so through Spotify, which you can find right here, whilst the podcast RSS feed is here and you can subscribe through Itunes here. And finally, a humble request. These podcasts take a lot of effort to write, record and release, and we would be extremely grateful for your financial support, in whatever way you can manage. We have our Redbubble shop, for the sartorially minded amongst you, and subscribe through joining us on Patreon. We even now have a Kofi button on the site, so do feel free to send us whatever you’re able to. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

We’re into the final stretch for an outstanding episode of The Pops, and Al Needham, Taylor Parkes and Neil Kulkarni strain every sinew as they navigate Disco Cilla, avoid Jimmy Pursey as he tumbles to the floor, bow to the true bosses of 1978, and join Joe Jordan and Kenny Burns for a geographically incorrect carnival, just before they fall on their faces like Bobby Davro in front of Keith Chegwin and Jim Bowen…Video Playlist | Subscribe | Facebook | Twitter | The Chart Music Wiki | Patreon See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Join them for an hour of generally uninformed, irrelevant chat - where they discuss topics such as celebrity builder Nick Knowles, the daily threat of gout and bus driver rivalry. Despite its name, the podcast will offer little in the way of information towards how you can, in fact, avoid an untimely demise. If anything, it’ll only make your fear of it worse. Enjoy.

The grand Old Duke of Edinburgh has been in the news for various reasons.....he was involved in a crash while he was out driving his Landrover.....which he managed to roll over...which wants a bit of doing with a car that size....but it was O.K. the armour plating saved him and he was able to walk away.....ignoring the other car he had pulled out in front of ... which had two people and a one month old child in it....who were thankfully not seriously injured......but his subjects needn't worry....a replacement car was delivered to him next day in which he was last seen driving around without a seatbelt.....so that's O.K. then......all he has to do now is to pop in and see David Beckham's solicitor.....problem solved......it would be funny if it wasn't so tragic.......the woman in the other car is thinking of making an injury claim......but it does beg the question as to how fast she must have been going to hit and roll a two ton Landrover? 2.Out of interest I watched "Celebrity Coach Trip" to see if had improved any as a new series has started.........it should be called "Spot The Celebrity" as it consisted of a crowd rejects from various reality TV programmes with zero personality travelling around on a coach with Brendan in charge....who is now the shape of a beach ball and swans around waving his wrists about making sure we all know....as if we didn't....that he is gay darling.......this is a s bad as TV gets............................................we are also being treated to another wonderful programme called "Five go camping" which features five "celebs" who experience the great outdoors.....or are supposed to.....they spent most of the programme sitting by the fire in a cottage drinking champagne before that idiot Joe Swash had to leave because he had anther job on and the other chap had to vanish because he was on Coronation Street....plus Bobby Davro had to stay in bed because he was ill.......and this is supposed to be entertainment?......beam me up Scotty... 3.Weekend T.V. has definitely lost its way.....after the tripe that is on each Saturday night I am reduced to watching Dancing on Ice on Sunday night....which I record between 6 and 8 o'clock and watch between 8 and 10 o'clock....thus skimming through the plethora of adverts.....this is how bad things are.....not only is the programme a tenth rate version of Strictly Come Dancing we have to sit and watch so called celebs learning to ice skate...which is bad enough but throw in an overweight mouthy "celebrity" diva from some dreadful reality show who has no idea yet gets through to the next round on the public vote (as if)...I must say she does remind me of a couple of characters from the Viz magazine......it does make me consider going back on the road........the alternative is to watch snooker on the BBC...all night!!......very good for insomnia I suppose. 4.The news reported the wrecking and burning of plaques and statues of war heroes.....I've never seen the point of this sort of behaviour and what possible pleasure the yobs get out of t....it's easy to say throw them in jail but it's not as simple as that....you can't legislate for idiots....it goes to prove how we are still evolving with some a long way behind the rest....with the huge gap in class the the royalty don't really help as they openly distance themselves with the likes of Prince Philip's recent behaviour......which must make some feel isolated ....what is sad is the lack of imagination in the general public....they automatically follow and believe all the rubbish the media throw at them......maybe "imagination" could be a school subject? 5.I have never done drugs despite playing in a band for 55 years.....in fact I couldn't tell what one looks like...which youngsters of today find very strange....sex drugs and rock and roll was a very minor part of the 60s but magnifying it makes it all seem a lot more exciting I suppose.....however back in the 70s I wrote and recorded a song called "I'm Only Happy When I'm Stoned" which led to a chance meeting with a wrestler called Adrian Street who was in a recording Studio in Chester (U.K.) looking for a song to enter the ring to.....he liked the song but asked if it could be changed to suit a wrestler....the song became "I'm Only Happy Breakin' Bones" which we recorded and was his entrance song to his many bouts.......we became good friends...a friendship which resulted in two albums of wrestling songs and a tour of the southern states in the U.S.A......and here it is

This was such fun - Jamie caught up with the man, the myth, the legend Tim Vincent totally about Celebrity 5 Go Camping - but as ever the conversation meanders into all sorts of things - such as fatherhood, celebrity - and Bobby Davro's limitless energy and enthusiasm! He was a brilliant person to interview - hope you enjoy! If you do, a sneaky little 5 Star review would be much appreciated!Thanks@jamieeast (on twitter) See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

It's been a couple of weeks of ups and downs, and heading into the weekend while we're all still on a high we've decided to release this podcast that we did with Spurs superfan Bobby Davro, recorded at our private #SpursShowLIVE exclusively for Spurs Show Season Ticket Holders. And just so you're prepared, we're giving it to you in full length, unedited fashion, so be prepared to drift off of White Hart Lane and towards showbiz Memory Lane for a bit as we were just having too much fun and the previous podcast we recorded that night, just before (‘Typical Old Spurs Fans') was just too intense! The live audience for this live podcast had free tickets for themselves and a friend, and if you want the same to join us and Martin Chivers in November and Glenn Hoddle for Christmas, get on to season.spursshow.net now and reserve your spot. (Yes, Davro, Chivers then Hoddle in person for £10 a month!) We talked about it in the show, so check out Cancer Research UK's Tough 10 at cruk.org/tough10. Use the promocode TTENOCT to get a £5 Spurs Show discount on the entry fee. The Spurs Show is backed for the season by Ladbrokes. Sign up and deposit up to £50 and Ladbrokes will put the same amount into your account giving up up to £50's worth of free bets. Here is a special #SpursShowLIVE, recorded in an intimate setting and the first of many more. No one doubts that Hunter Davies is the author of the greatest book about football ever written so what an honour it was to have the legendary Tottenham Hotspur biographer on the podcast after a decade of trying! In this podcast we look back at our last victory at the weekend, forward to the upcoming games and of course Hunter's many opinions and anecdotes on all things Spurs including Kane, Dier and Dele's finger. Being The Beatles only official biographer and the ghost writer of dozens of sports biographies including that of Wayne Rooney, we get yet another intelligent aspect on the team we love. Bants? We're better than that. This is the first part of our evening with Hunter Davies and the second episode will be coming up soon (and includes a Paul Gascoigne anecdote that you'll never forget! Spurs Show Season Ticket holders got two free tickets to this event and the next one (The Bobby Davro and Paul Whitehouse Show!) will be exclusive to Season Ticket holders only, so don't miss out on these very special #SpursShowLIVE events.
