In this Huberman Lab Essentials episode, I explain the crucial role hormones play in shaping the sexual development of both the brain and body. I discuss how biological masculinization and feminization depend on factors such as genetics, hormone ratios, and receptor availability. I also explore how hormones like testosterone, estrogen, and other steroid hormones influence sexual characteristics and brain development. Additionally, I examine the impact of environmental factors—such as herbicides like atrazine, cannabis, alcohol, and even cell phones—on hormone function and reproductive health. Huberman Lab Essentials are short episodes (approximately 30 minutes) focused on key science and protocol takeaways from past Huberman Lab episodes. Essentials are released every Thursday, while full-length episodes continue to be released every Monday. Summer fun almost always includes playing in the pool--that's also used for when kids have to go. A woman from the UK had to go to Turkey for breast augmentation but was horrified when she discovered a nipple malfunction. A female biologist may have found a way to "grow a pair" for men who don't have the balls to reproduce.

KOPPOD's Jake Razor conducts an interview with none other than GARRY BUSHELL. If you listened to Part One, you learned a bit about Garry; he managed the COCKNEY REJECTS, he curated the iconic 'Strength Thru Oi!' compilation (and the other great compilations in that series), he sang for the GONADS, and as a SOUNDS journalist he penned a mountain of words championing punk rock's misunderstood underdogs and UK subculture's quixotic tribespeople. This work and more continues to this day as Garry remains an active writer. For his part, Jake picks the man's brain about the austerity of 70s Britain, UK youth subculture tribes, reggae, punks vs. skinheads, and... British Trotskyite sects, briefly. Maybe we can get his take on Enver Hoxha next time. For now, check out this episode to hear a true powerhouse share insight on the aforementioned topics and much more. This turned out to be a spicy episode. Kyle and Chris discuss Elon Musk as a modern-day Ayn-Randian hero. We discuss Chris' participation in a research project at the University of Exeter on transformative psychedelic experience. But that's not all. We talk about IQ research and all the controversy that goes along with that. We talk effort versus genetic inheritance, the difficulty in understanding philosophic and academic language, the wild west and the idea of "community." Come and get it while it's hot! Enjoy :)

On this episode of Banned Biographies, Tom chats with James Cruttwell, bassist with The Gonads - a band fronted by broadcaster and author Garry Bushell - and The Furry Love Lickers. In the episode we also talk about him being in East End Badoes, another old school London-based Oi Punk band, but since this episode was recorded he no longer plays for them. We also talk quite a bit about lockdowns possibly being eased, which was something we were looking forward to in March or April when this episode was recorded. So, a lot of that is irrelevant now, but I kept it in because I found it interesting to look back at how we were feeling four or five months ago and how things have changed since. Because we found out that we have similar tastes in music we get very excited talking about bands we both love and because we're both from the same area we both get a bit 'Estuary'; dropping our 'Ts' and turning double 'Ls' into 'Ws', which is what happens when you get two Kent-based punk fans together! James is a great guy who has had some brilliant experiences playing in punk bands around Europe. I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I had having it. Multiple sclerosis, lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, even psoriasis — these are diseases in which the body begins to attack itself, and they all have one thing in common: they affect women more than men. Most autoimmune disorders do. And not just by a little bit, often by a lot; in some cases, as much as sixteen times more. But why? On today's episode, we talk to scientists trying to answer that question. We go back 100 million years, to when our placenta first evolved and consider how it might have shaped our immune system. We dive deep into the genome, to stare at one of the most famous chromosomes: the X. And we also try to unravel a mystery — why is it that for some females, autoimmune disorders seemingly disappear during pregnancy? This episode was reported by Molly Webster, and produced by Sindhu Gnanasambandan and Molly Webster. The Gonads theme song was written, performed, and produced by Majel Connery and Alex Overington. Link to bioRxiv paper: http://biorxiv.org/cgi/content/short/2020.06.12.147777v1?rss=1 Authors: van Rosmalen, L., van Dalum, J., Hazlerigg, D. G., Hut, R. A. Abstract: To optimally time reproduction, seasonal mammals use a photoperiodic neuroendocrine system (PNES) that measures photoperiod and subsequently drives reproduction. To adapt to late spring arrival at northern latitudes, a lower photoperiodic sensitivity and therefore a higher critical photoperiod for reproductive onset is necessary in northern species to arrest reproductive development until spring onset. Temperature-photoperiod relationships, and hence food availability-photoperiod relationships, are highly latitude dependent. Therefore, we predict PNES sensitivity characteristics to be latitude-dependent. Here, we investigated photoperiodic responses at different times during development in northern- (tundra/root vole, Microtus oeconomus) and southern vole species (common vole, Microtus arvalis) exposed to constant short (SP) or long photoperiod (LP). M. oeconomus grows faster under LP, whereas no photoperiodic effect on somatic growth is observed in M. arvalis. Contrastingly, gonadal growth is more sensitive to photoperiod in M. arvalis, suggesting that photoperiodic responses in somatic and gonadal growth can be plastic, and might be regulated through different mechanisms. In both species, thyroid-stimulating-hormone-{beta} subunit (Tsh{beta}) and iodothyronine-deiodines 2 (Dio2) expression is highly increased under LP, whereas Tshr and Dio3 decreases under LP. High Tshr levels in voles raised under SP may lead to increased sensitivity to increasing photoperiods later in life. The higher photoperiodic induced Tshr response in M. oeconomus suggests that the northern vole species might be more sensitive to TSH when raised under SP. Species differences in developmental programming of the PNES, which is dependent on photoperiod early in development, may form part divergent breeding strategies evolving as part of latitudinal adaptation. So here’s a little background on the 3rd instalment in my “Soul Deep” series... Chakras are the circular vortexes of energy that are placed in seven different points on the spinal column, and all the seven chakras are connected to the various organs and glands within the body. These chakras are responsible for disturbing the life energy, which is also known as Qi or Praana. Each of the seven chakras carries a specific meaning and colour, and in this article, we will walk you through the significance of all the seven chakras, their colours, and the areas of our health and life these chakras tend to influence. And I’ve chosen RED!!! In Sanskrit, the Root Chakra is known as the Mooladhara Chakra; this root defines our relationship with Mother Earth. It influences our passion, creativity, youthfulness, vitality and most importantly, our basic survival instincts. The Root Chakra is represented by the colour red, which is also an indication for the need of logic, realistic thinking and order in our lives. Moreover, it is also symbolic of our physical strength, our sexuality and the flight and fight response that tends to activate within our body when we sense danger. The Root Chakra is attached to the gland known as Gonads, and is also connected with the sense of smell within the body. Whether you’re in recovery mode, need to unwind and relax, reflect, reconnect, recharge or meditate, this nearly 2-hour Mix goes much deeper and less commercial than my previous two Soul Deep and Soul Deeper, with ambient chillaxing tracks from Above & Beyond, Armin van Buuren, ATB, and Chicane. Immerse yourself in the music, and let it soothe your mind, body and soul...
The problem with sin is that is damages the whole man. If I seek satisfaction outside of the boundaries laid down by God, the repercussion are often seen in H.I.V., Gonorreah, Chlamydia and the like, unwanted children, privations, poverty and a billion pitiful existences. Sin damages men spiritually, sexually, emotionally, socially, physically and economically. Sin, I am afraid, has an holistic infiltration, indeed, the latest scientific results also affirm the Scriptures, in that not only does sin affect your money sack for generations, but it affects your sperm sack for generations as well. Am I being too crude, too rude, too lewd? Well someone needs to be, yes someone needs to be telling young men and prospective fathers that “Sin puts a spanner in your sperm!” Support the show (http://www.victorrobert.tv)

Welcome to a very special episode of PotterCast! This week, J.K. Rowling angered and saddened many fans when she came out in support of a woman whose company had not renewed her employment contract because she refused to recognize the legally protected rights of trans people. In coming back from a months-long Twitter hiatus, J.K. Rowling mischaracterized the facts of the case in support of a dangerous and unscientific movement that invalidates the trans experience, and in doing so flies in the face of medical consensus worldwide. Her comments also confused a lot of fans who are not fully familiar with the issues at stake, or cannot understand how someone whose book series is so vehemently about tolerance can express support for a woman whose views invalidate so many people's existences. That's why in this episode, we are going over it all. Jackson Bird, longtime friend of the podcast and of Leaky, as well as author, trans activist and educator, and expert Waffler, joins us to explain and process what this means for Harry Potter fans. We discuss: What actually happened What J.K. Rowling said versus what happened to the woman in question, Maya Forstater Why many fans saw this coming What to do now that the creator of the series we love so dearly has taken this stance How to support trans and non-binary communities How we as fans are feeling about all of this What to do now, especially since we still love this community We hope you'll listen and share. This week, Nancy is featuring an episode of Radiolab Presents: Gonads. A lot of us understand biological sex with a pretty fateful underpinning: if you’re born with XX chromosomes, you’re female; if you’re born with XY chromosomes, you’re male. But it turns out, our relationship to the opposite sex is more complicated than we think. This episode was reported by Molly Webster, and produced by Matt Kielty. With scoring, original composition and mixing by Matt Kielty and Alex Overington. Additional production by Rachael Cusick, and editing by Pat Walters. The “Ballad of Daniel Webster” and “Gonads” was written, performed and produced by Majel Connery and Alex Overington. Special thanks to Erica Todd, Andrew Sinclair, Robin Lovell-Badge, and Sarah S. Richardson. Plus, a big thank you to the musicians who gave us permission to use their work in this episode—composer Erik Friedlander, for "Frail as a Breeze, Part II," and musician Sam Prekop, whose work "A Geometric," from his album The Republic, is out on Thrill Jockey. Today's Tell Me Something Good centers around an amazing little 76 year old lady who was brutally mugged at the Piggly Wiggly (coolest grocery store name, like EVER.) But she managed to hold out long enough for Good Samaritans to race to save her- by employing a really intense defense method. Also! Do you ever wonder if food manufacturers are just screwing with us with some of these "keep fresh" seals? Help! (image credit: https://www.flickr.com/photos/10542402@N06/)
If there’s one thing Gonads taught us, it’s just how complicated human reproduction is. All the things we thought we knew about biology and sex determination are up for debate in a way that feels both daunting and full of potential. At the same time, we're at a moment where we’re wrestling with how to approach conversations around sex, consent, and boundaries, at a time that may be more divisive than ever. So host Molly Webster thought: what if we took on sex ed, and tried to tackle questions from listeners, youth, reddit (oh boy), and staff. But instead of approaching these questions the way your high school health teacher might’ve (or government teacher, who knows), Molly invited a cast of storytellers, educators, artists, and comedians to grapple with sex ed in unexpected and thoughtful ways. To help us think about how we can change the conversation. In this episode, an edited down version of a Gonads Live show, Molly's team takes a crack at responding to the intimate questions you asked when you were younger but probably never got a straight answer to. Featuring: How Do You Talk About Condoms Without Condom Demonstrations? Sanford Johnson. Wanna see how to put on a sock? What Are Periods? Sindha Agha and Gul Agha. Check out Sindha's photography here. Is Anything Off-Limits? Ericka Hart, Dalia Mahgoub, and Jonathan Zimmerman Why Do We Do This Anyway? And Other Queries from Fifth Graders Jo Firestone "Sex Ed" is an edited* recording of a live event hosted by Radiolab at the Skirball Center in New York City on May 16, 2018. Radiolab Team Gonads is Molly Webster, Pat Walters, and Rachael Cusick, with Jad Abumrad. Live music, including the sex ed questions, and the Gonads theme song, were written, performed, and produced by Majel Connery and Alex Overington. One more thing! Over the past few months, Radiolab has been collecting sex ed book suggestions from listeners and staff, about the books that helped them understand the birds and the bees. When Dana Zzyym applied for their first passport back in 2014, they were handed a pretty straightforward application. Name, place of birth, photo ID -- the usual. But one question on the application stopped Dana in their tracks: male or female? Dana, technically, wasn’t either. In this episode, we follow the story of Dana Zzyym, Navy veteran and activist, which starts long before they scribble the word "intersex” on their passport application. Along the way, we see what happens when our inner biological realities bump into the outside world, and the power of words to shape us. This episode is a companion piece to Gonads, Episode 4, Dutee. "Dana" was reported by Molly Webster, and co-produced with Jad Abumrad. It had production help from Rachael Cusick, and editing by Pat Walters. Wordplay categories were written, performed, and produced by Majel Connery and Alex Overington. In 2014, India’s Dutee Chand was a rising female track and field star, crushing national records. But then, that summer, something unexpected happened: she failed a gender test. And was banned from the sport. Before she knew it, Dutee was thrown into the middle of a controversy that started long before her, and continues on today: how to separate males and females in sport. This story is a companion piece to Gonads, Episode 5, Dana. "Dutee" was reported by Molly Webster, with co-reporting and translation by Sarah Qari. It was produced by Pat Walters, with production help from Jad Abumrad and Rachael Cusick. The Gonads theme was written, performed, and produced by Majel Connery and Alex Overington. And if you caught this show on-air, and would like to listen to the full version of our Sex Ed Live Show, you can check it out here. What Is Glycobiology? Bryan asks: He recently has been hearing the term glycobiology. He is wondering what your thoughts are on the subject and whether you agree that it is as important as some people are saying to the future of our health? Is Sitting On A Bike Bad For You? Jonas asks: He rides a mountain bike to work everyday and is wondering how he should be sitting on it, not necessarily to go the fastest but to ensure he doesn't get injured or create any issues later in life. He doesn't want to wake up 10 years from now and find out that he shouldn't have been "sitting like this". In my response I recommend: - - What Is Best Plastic For Water Bottles? Mark asks: He has been reading recently that even BPA free plastic water bottles can be harmful to your health. Do you have any recommendations on what water bottles are safe to use? In my response I recommend: - - Can You Increase Growth Hormone With Fasting? Johan asks: He has read that the positive effects of fasting (24 hours or more) are quite evident with HGH and "rebooting" your immune system. If you are fasting and training to get the positive effects of testosterone, is that a powerful way to combine health and training? Could this also be helpful for kids to help control IGF1 and thus stop them from entering puberty too early by relying on HGH instead of IGF1?

He reminds Doc of some old Vespa and motorcycle stories from days gone by. The guys bitch about bad dubbing of good movies to show on broadcast television. Once again a whole town is in uproar over snow penises. There is some Ask. Dr. Doc and the usual silly conversation. Call the comment line at (206) 309-7308. Visit insignificast.com.
