THE BAZURA PROJECT'S RADIO FREE CINEMATHE TV SHOW ABOUT MOVIES IS NOW A RADIO PROGRAM RELEASED AS A PODCASTOn 29 September 2011, The Bazura Project's Guide To Sinema, a comedy series devoted to exploring cinematic sins, began its extremely limited run on the ABC. Now, exactly ten years later, the creators are back with their most exciting project yet: a press release. But it's a press release that's promoting their next thing, The Bazura Project's Radio Free Cinema. As many will doubtless recall, The Bazura Project's Radio Free Cinema was a huge hit, broadcast on an unspecified radio station an indeterminate number of years ago. Now, the recordings that everyone had believed (and hoped) were lost forever have been uncovered, digitised, cleaned up, edited for slander, and are now ready to be released on a podcast platform where they can be heard again… for the first time.Over six thrilling and definitely factual instalments, The Bazura Project's Radio Free Cinema will explore every possible aspect of the film world, including:interviews with the film industry's best and brightest, including: Aussie soap star-turned-Hollywood headliner, Amelia Bell-Jarman; the Oscar-winning producer of some of cinema's least challenging mid-brow works, Catarina Rice; achingly-dull minimalist Hungarian film composer Máté Lantos; and studio janitor from Hollywood's golden age, Jerry Schutzexclusive first-listen trailers for the most exciting new high-concept thrillers, low-concept romantic comedies, poorly-conceived fantasy adventures, crowd-placating dramas, and overstimulating kids' filmsoriginal songs from your favourite soundtracks and never-before-heard music from your least-favourite unreleased moviesdispatches from all around the world, including: an exclusive Sundance Film Festival premiere after-party; the world's greatest voice coaching academy on an island in the Baltic Sea; and a glamorous and exceedingly-morbid awards ceremony in the heart of Alaskaplus much, much more“It was always our plan to air six poorly-rated episodes on the endlessly-rebranded ABC2, disappear into obscurity for a decade, and then return with a six-episode podcast that wouldn't make us any money,” says co-creator and co-presenter Lee Zachariah.“The presently-oversaturated market of podcasts presented us with the perfect opportunity to release our own,” says co-creator and co-presenter Shannon Marinko. “If you manage to find it, and enjoy it, it's probably someone else's.”The show will feature an overstuffed cast that includes Tom Ballard, Rusty Berther, Kristy Best, Robyn Butler, Rhonda Burchmore, Santo Cilauro, Marc Fennell, Tim Ferguson, Abe Forsythe, Bob Franklin, Francis Greenslade, Tosh Greenslade, Roz Hammond, Stephen Hall, Andrew Hansen, Peter Helliar, Tegan Higginbotham, Ming-Zhu Hii, Adam Hills, Claire Hooper, Wayne Hope, Dan Ilic, Laura Hughes, Mark Humphries, Nazeem Hussain, Ed Kavalee, Christopher Kirby, Colin Lane, Tommy Little, Cassandra Magrath, Tony Martin, Shaun Micallef, Rhys Muldoon, Brian Nankervis, Celia Pacquola, Geraldine Quinn, Ben Russell, John Safran, Kat Stewart, Emily Taheny, Chris Taylor, Dave Thornton, Toby Truslove, Michael Veitch, Cal Wilson, and many, many more. The six-part series begins on October 5 on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Google Podcasts, Radio Public, or directly via our website: bazuraproject.com/radiofreecinemaThe trailer is available to hear now via this link. The Bazura Project began its life on community television in 2006, running for 36 episodes across three seasons on Channel 31 Melbourne, TVS Sydney, 31 Brisbane, and C31 Adelaide. The show featured recreations of classic movie scenes, film news, feature stories, interviews, and reviews of new releases. At the 2007 Antenna Awards, the show picked up three awards, including Best Comedy Program, Best Arts Program, and Best Director. In 2008, it won again for Best Arts Program. In 2011, the ABC commissioned The Bazura Project's Guide To Sinema, a six-part series that explored the history of sins in cinema: Violence, Sex, Money, Profanity, Drugs and Fame. 2021 Summer Vacation Series Destination: Melbourne, Australia Read the article at: comedywham.com This week Janet McLeod talks to Valerie about her start in comedy involved an inflatable chair, how her helpful nature and love of comedy evolved into her role as a connector (which is exactly why we got to know her - without her, we never would have landed the great Australian comics that we did on our Isolation Comedy Online show in 2020), and how she's been thriving with her own online shows and trivia events. Want to know more about comedy in Melbourne, Australia? Janet's mentions and recommendations for comics to check out from Melbourne or larger Australia include: Cal Wilson, Tim Minchin, DJ Andrew McClelland, Ethan Cavanagh, Oliver Clark, Dane Simpson, Jude Perl, Reuben Kaye, Geraldine Quinn, Kirsty Webeck, Claire Hooper, and Ivan Aristeguieta. If you're in Melbourne, Australia Janet, recommends that you check out the handful of comedy clubs in town and there are 3-5 standup comedy shows each night. Similar to most developed American comedy towns, you can see everything from bar shows, to club shows, to large theater shows. We won't comment on whether this is similar to other scenes or not, but McLeod likens the Melbourne scene to a giant dysfunctional family - full of camaraderie, but brimming with hilarious oddballs. Janet can be seen and heard: Planet Janet Trivia Events Local Laughs - returning soon! Cinema Fiasco with Geoff Wallis - returning soon! ABC Local Radio's Overnights With Trevor Chappell. WE DID IT! After a guerilla season of Bang On The Strillers live at The Butterfly Club in January 2016, Quinn put her welfare cheque where her mouth is an coralled some of the best cabaret writers/singer/performers in the industry together to record a live show as part of the 2016 Melbourne Cabaret Festival. Featuring Mike McLeish, Michelle Brasier and original songs from Astrid & Otto Rot (aka Die Roten Punkte), Karlis Zaid (and Karin Muiznieks), Shanon Whitelock (who also played house band) and myself - I even wrote a song specially for the show! Thanks to Chapel Off Chapel and to Mike McLeish for being so supportive with the project, and to the audience who came, and specially to the audience to PAID to come. Forgive the mic blow outs, I couldn't afford someone to ride the mix, but it still sounds like a great bootleg and if you get behind us, we'll only get better. Considering I basically pulled this show out of my arse in the middle of a horrible cold, with a brand new all original show opening two days later, it's a wonder I don't have my own TV show to populate with my talented friends. ENJOY! And please support the podcast. Share, rate, and soon I hope you can also donate. Songs featured in the recording included the following copyrighted material from the original songwriters involved in the show: Hair That You Wear - words & music Karlis Zaid; Flasher - words & music Karin Muiznieks; I Live for Music Theatre - words & music Geraldine Quinn; Bi-Polar Rhapsody - words & music Shanon Whitelock; Cabaret Overlord - words & music Geraldine Quinn; Love Songs - words & music Geraldine Quinn; Burger Store Dinosaur - words & music Die Roten Punkte (aka Astrid & Otto); Astrid's Drinking song - words & music Die Roten Punkte (aka Astrid & Otto); You Love It - words & music by Geraldine Quinn; All other text and farting around written by or made up by the speakers. Please don't rip anyone off for money. We're all independent and these guys agreed to do their original material for the podcast, knowing I make no money from it. So the best thing you can do is buy their stuff and see their shows. They're all really great.
Adelaide Fringe cabaret king Matt Gilbertson (aka Hans the German) and Geraldine Quinn met at The Adelaide Fringe Bar through mutual friend Lori Bell more years ago than either of them care to remember, and together are two of the most be-sequinned, Eurovision-obsessed cabaret performers in the country - which is really saying something. In this episode we talk about grief porn, Grindr, why Geraldine is pathetically envious of her niece, how a stage persona like Hans can liberate the artist (as well as let you get away with terrible, terrible things), straight women at gay clubs, Lady Gaga's Bowie tribute (look, I was pressured to give a response), online outrage, Tina Arena, and we drop a TONNE of names. So many names dropped... Please book for the live variety jamboree and podcast record on 21 June 2016! And here is a link to an article about Sir Tim Hunt who we talked about regarding the #distractinglysexy incident. Please also follow BOTS on Twitter (@bangotstrillers) so the account doesn't look so lonely, and like the Facebook page too. You'd be brightening my life just a little more.
Here's our live show from last Sunday . Featuring the great operators Steven Gates from Tripod, Damian Cowell from TISM, and Geraldine Quinn. Along with a high-brow theatrical tribute to Gary Ayres and Robert Dipierdomenico.
*Strong language warning* Note - both my guests and I do make informed choices to swear sometimes (not constantly, but the worst words you can think of may pop up), most often for comic effect. It's not a question of intellect or poor vocabulary - it's a definite choice. So bear that in mind if you have sensitive types within earshot. Unless of course you want to warp them, in which case, turn it up. In this episode of Bang On The Strillers, I, Geraldine Quinn, join music theatre/cabaret/comedy performer and fellow Wagga Wagga child Michelle Brasier (who is also a founding member of Backwards Anorak who had recently returned from yet another sold out UK jaunt and I'm not jealous at all). We discuss the point when grieving becomes hilarious, how art can help when your heart is broken, playing embarrassment roulette in public, spectacular accidents, coming of age in country Australia, badly written reviews, what it's like to have Malcolm Turnbull as your dad, being described as "a hungrier Rebel Wilson", how not to destroy your voice, making a fool of yourself in front of medical professionals, all with the rumble of Lygon Street, Carlton softly in the background. Featuring me losing my tiny ginger mind at two of the funniest stories I've ever heard. Here is a link to Michelle's article on art and grief. Photograph of Michelle Brasier by Evan Munro-Smith.

In his twenty years on the scene, Wes Snelling has been one of Melbourne's and Australia's most impressive cabaret and comedy performers. He is a mentor, director, dramaturg, musician, actor, speaker and all-round inspiration who has generally unimpeachable taste, apart perhaps from being a long-term friend of mine, Geraldine Quinn.OK, I kid. In this "Part 1" episode of our chat ("Part 2" to come, with a Michelle Brasier-shaped hiatus in the interim), we discuss ever-so-earnest a cappella, minimum wage, Geraldine's building structure fears, Melbourne's lamented and long-lost musical venues, the cultural cringe, too-tight trousers, caravan parks, the perils of telling stories about your family onstage, and why Australian family Christmases really can suck dog's balls. Explaining ice to children. Weapons at Book Week. A lot of coffee. Rock cabaret ginger Geraldine Quinn chats to singer-songwriter and cabaret/music-theatre charmer Mike McLeish about juvenilia, street gangs, clarifying the perils of drugs to children and why 'Howard The Duck' is vastly more traumatising than 'The Amityville Horror'.Mike is a voice-over artist, actor, singer-songwriter, musical theatre performer and delightful personality. He is a responsible father and makes a darned good coffee.Mike McLeish photograph by James Penlidis.

From Klaus Nomi to Tally Brown to modern day, Bowie's career has intertwined with cabaret and pop/club sub-cultures, weaving an intricate tapestry of mutual influence. Rock cabaret singer-songwriter Geraldine Quinn explores the contribution of underground scenes and their inherent gender-flux to the Bowie myth, and his influence on practitioners of the genre from the 1970s to today.
