Into the Heart of the Gospel: Love that Never Quits // Lynne Benik | 10.06.24
Matt Murphy explores the transformative power of self-giving love within the Kingdom of God, using Paul's relationship with the Thessalonians as a model. Reflecting on his own experience of isolating and shallow connections, Matt acknowledges the human tendency to seek "safety" in separation. However, Paul's example in 1 Thessalonians reveals a different way—a life shared deeply with others, marked by gentleness, devotion, faithful presence, and care, much like a family. This sermon emphasizes that true, flourishing relationships require us to look to Christ as the infinite source of love, enabling us to love others without expectation or transaction. It calls the church to embrace this self-giving love, anchored in Christ, as the foundation for genuine, lasting community.

Self-Examination Questions for turning grey to black and white: “ All things are lawful (or permissible) for me,” but not all things are helpful.” (1 Cor. 6:12a). Question of Conscience: Is it helpful – physically, spiritually, and mentally? “All things are lawful for me,” but I will not be dominated by anything.” (1 Cor 6:12b). Question of Conscience: Does it bring me under its power? “Therefore, if food makes my brother stumble, I will never eat meat, lest I make my brother stumble.” (1 Cor. 8:13). Question of Love: Does it hurt others? “So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” (1 Cor.10:31). Question of Glory: Does it glorify God?

We know that now is the time to love our neighbour in the community and in the Church. But what are the actions of love? Here we learn about the link between the Law and Love. And we're directed to love because we live in the light of day. This is Gospel love.
Pete continues our series ‘The Beauty of the Gospel' looking at love.
What qualities does true Christian love have?
Listening to others is a constructive way to difuse anger.
In this series, we're going through our core values at Griggs. These values are simple tools that help us stay engaged in the whole point of being the body of Christ - being LIKE Christ. I love my church! The Philippine church was quite possibly Paul's favourite church. Why? They had Gospel JOY, Gospel UNITY, and Gospel LOVE. The Gospel is absolutely central to everything we do at NorthernLife, and this message will encourage you to get involved.
God uses your suffering as a way of reaching others with his Gospel love. There is a purpose to your pain, and God will use it for good.

What makes a person "spiritual"? Perhaps it's how often they mediate, or pray, or do "spiritual" things. Well, in this message we discover that the true measure of spirituality for the Jesus follower isn't spiritual gifts, but spiritual fruit: The Gospel + Love = Spirituality.

Want a glimpse into the mission behind the podcast? TeachBeyond President, Dr. David Durance, returns to the podcast to share about his dissertation research and what it means to be part of the global movement of transformational education. “An effective missionary is someone who follows Jesus' calling on your life and that you look like Him.” “What can we do in TeachBeyond and organizations like TeachBeyond, to help facilitate that in our members and in the work that we do around the world? If we're saying that TeachBeyonders need to be like Jesus to be effective models, then we as an organization, as a community, need to come around each other and say, ‘How can we do that well together?'” “Right at the core of our understanding of effectiveness is that our people have to live out the mission.” “Our mission is transformation. We're desiring to see that happen elsewhere, but that has to be inside us.” “If we're being transformed and transformational, we're loving God and our love for God spills out into this awesome way of seeing the world God's way.” Psalm 24:1 Romans 9:2 “A love for God and love for people is ingrained in someone's heart. We can help foster that [...] but for people to be engaged in the mission, that must be ingrained in their heart.” “[We have] this shared calling to be followers of Jesus in this world of education.” Galatians 3:28 “As we strive to be as diverse as the Church itself, we want to be where the Church is serving. Our rich understanding of what it means to love God and love people, that core value, we come together and have a deeper understanding of that because we think about it differently.” “By God's grace, we can be both unified and diverse at the same time.” “What does the learner need to learn in this environment? That's a question we want to ask in every environment, and it's going to end up with wonderfully diverse answers, and I think that's one thing that we want to celebrate within our TeachBeyond community.” “[A] precursor to being in TeachBeyond is that you care about excellent education. That cannot be a prescription of a curriculum or a prescription of what a classroom must be designed like.” “We want to not be behavioral experts, but experts of desiring God to do something in our hearts so that flows out to the world around us.” “As we are desiring to follow Jesus and be that beacon of light, saying let's go together toward Jesus and become more like Him [...] we have a richer, deeper understanding of what it means to be missionally effective.” What's changing our lives: Keane: Moving to North Carolina Heather: Cooler mornings and sitting on the balcony David: Completing the dissertation and a swim/run competition Hear an overview of what changed our lives last year in the Season 1 Finale, Episode 35.
