The Steelers and Raiders were two of the defining teams of the decade, opposites in almost every way. Pittsburgh was a homegrown powerhouse built through the draft, while Oakland thrived by embracing outcasts and unconventional talent. The Steelers were new to winning; the Raiders had already captured an AFL championship. Both embodied the brutal style of the era - gritty defenses, punishing hits, and a brand of football so violent it forced rule changes. The rivalry, and the intensity that fueled it, may never be matched again in the history of the NFL.Get our Steelers-Ravens book here! In this episode of Future Fuzz, Swann Co-Founder and CEO Amos Bar-Joseph joins Vince Quinn to unpack the power of narrative in a noisy, AI-native B2B world. Amos explains how Swann is building the world's first autonomous business, designed from the ground up for human-AI collaboration, and how telling the right story can create instant credibility, virality, and trust with your audience. He breaks down what makes a good story, why product features no longer matter, and how a viral narrative paired with a credible narrator is the ultimate growth lever in today's saturated market.Guest BioAmos Bar-Joseph is the Co-Founder and CEO of Swann, the first autonomous business platform built for human-AI collaboration. Before Swann, Amos founded two startups that followed the traditional unicorn playbook, raising money and scaling fast, but ultimately revealed the flaws in that model. At Swann, he's pioneering a new go-to-market approach that scales with intelligence, not headcount. Amos has built a personal brand of over 70,000 followers on LinkedIn in just six months and generates $1.5M in pipeline monthly through content alone.TakeawaysFeatures don't matter, transformation doesBuild trust by leading with vision, not productA great story starts with defining a clear “from → to” transformationChallenge the status quo and the challenger narrativesViral narratives provoke positive emotions, not fearA viral narrator must earn the right to be heardIn an AI-native world, brand and distribution > productContent isn't a side hustle, it's a full-time GTM strategyChapters00:00 Intro to Amos Bar-Joseph and Swann01:00 What Makes a Compelling Story02:45 Swann's Mission: The First Autonomous Business04:00 Why Transformation Beats Features Every Time07:10 The Power of Viral Narratives09:45 Challenging the Challenger: Creating Market Differentiation11:00 Positive Emotion > FOMO in Storytelling13:35 What Makes a Viral Narrator15:45 Why Swann's Story Resonates17:10 Helping Your Audience vs. Selling Your Product19:20 The Business Impact of a Strong Story21:40 Daily Commitment to Content Creation23:15 How to Follow Amos and Swann's JourneyLinkedInFollow Amos Bar-Joseph on LinkedIn Follow Vince Quinn on LinkedIn

www.marktreichel.comhttps://www.linkedin.com/in/mark-treichel/In this episode of With Flying Colors, Mark Treichel is joined by former NCUA leaders Geoff Bacino, Alonzo Swann, and John McKechnie for a timely and candid discussion about Chairman Kyle Hauptman's appointment to the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) — and what it signals for the future of the NCUA.While the announcement appears straightforward, the panel explains why it creates a ripple effect across the agency, including questions about leadership continuity, pending lawsuits, board vacancies, staff reductions, and the broader stability of the regulator at a critical time for credit unions. This conversation goes beyond speculation and into how the agency actually functions when leadership is in flux — from delegation of authority to examiner operations to internal morale. You'll hear insider perspective on:Why Hauptman's “intent to remain” language mattersHow the Slaughter/Harper lawsuits could determine the shape of the future boardWhat a one-member board means in practiceWhy notation votes and lack of public discussion are becoming a concernThe real impact of a 27% staff reduction at NCUAHow agency expertise gaps are affecting morale and operationsThe upcoming interest rate ceiling decision and why it may be politically sensitiveWhy the agency may be “running itself” more than people realizeWhat happens if the Supreme Court changes how independent boards operatePredictions on who may replace Hauptman and what that means for credit unionsThe panel also discusses how political dynamics, Senate control, and White House strategy could shape the next NCUA board in ways credit unions haven't seen before.Despite the uncertainty, one theme is clear: the blocking and tackling of supervision continues, but major structural decisions are happening quietly beneath the surface. This episode is essential listening for anyone trying to understand where NCUA is headed in 2026.

Stepping inside an Impressionist painting? Yes, please.Week 41 of Ted Gioia's Immersive Humanities Course made me realize something startling: these books weren't picked for my enjoyment--and yet I loved them anyway. This week's readings, Henry James's The Spoils of Poynton and the “Overture” to Marcel Proust's Remembrance of Things Past, carry us right into the early twentieth century.I approached James with dread, expecting a slow narrative, but instead I found a moody, infinitely readable novel built around obsession, property, and desire. With a small cast and dialogue-driven scenes, it feels almost theatrical, no surprise since James briefly wrote plays. But it's also chilling in its fixation on “stuff” and ownership. This one was a winner.Proust, meanwhile, surprised me with prose that felt dreamlike, luminous, and unexpectedly funny. I had expected dense, boring, and pointless--Proust was none of those. The famous madeleine scene becomes a meditation on memory that expands from a sensation as small as a crumb into an entire world.Though radically different on the surface, James and Proust share a similar impressionistic quality, finding vast meaning in subtle gestures. A brilliant pairing--and a week I adored, even if Ted doesn't care. The Housekeeping:LINKTed Gioia/The Honest Broker's 12-Month Immersive Humanities Course (paywalled!)My Amazon Book List (NOT an affiliate link)CONNECTThe complete list of Crack the Book Episodes: https://cheryldrury.substack.com/p/crack-the-book-start-here?r=u3t2rTo read more of my writing, visit my Substack - https://www.cheryldrury.substack.com.Follow me on Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/cldrury/LISTENSpotify - https://open.spotify.com/show/5GpySInw1e8IqNQvXow7Lv?si=9ebd5508daa245bdApple Podcasts - https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/crack-the-book/id1749793321Captivate - https://crackthebook.captivate.fm

Is setting New Year's resolutions actually worth it, or are we setting ourselves up for inevitable failure? In this episode, I dig into the research on New Year's goal-setting and share what actually works (and what doesn't). In this episode of The Future Conceived, we delve into the extraordinary moment life begins: egg activation, the precise signal that jolts the egg out of its arrested state and launches embryonic development. We are joined by Professor Karl Swann (Cardiff University), a world-leading expert who has spent four decades decoding the chemical interactions between sperm and egg.Dr. Swann explains why the entire process depends on a series of small, rapid bursts of calcium . These repeated calcium oscillations are the vital trigger, lasting for hours, and are necessary to fully commit the egg to development. We discuss the challenge of accurately capturing these minute, long-running chemical signals in the lab.Central to our conversation is Dr. Swann's groundbreaking discovery of the sperm-delivered protein that causes these calcium pulses. This protein acts as the 'switch' that the sperm injects into the egg, causing the egg's internal stores to release calcium in a repetitive, rhythmic fashion. We explore the importance of this specific activation mechanism—including how the egg powers this demanding process using its mitochondria—and address a crucial clinical issue: why current methods used in fertility clinics to artificially activate eggs are often ineffective, relying on outdated technology that only produces a single calcium burst instead of the necessary rhythm.

For our second to last Spirituality and Politics on Radio Kingston, Marielena and I are joined by returning guest, Eliza Swann - writer, educator, artist and alchemist, to continue our conversation into The Emerald Tablet.Last month on the show, we focused on the first paragraph of the Tablet. Today, we revisit it with Eliza, who shares their depth of knowledge and experience in working with the text. Eliza then carries us into the second paragraph with a strong analogy that helps to make sense of this somewhat esoteric text, the bridge between the ineffable and the mundane."True, without falsehood, certain and most true, that which is above is as that which is below, and that which is below is as that which is above, for the performance of the miracles of the One Thing. And as all things are from One, by the mediation of One, so all things have their birth from this One Thing by adaptation. The Sun is its father, the Moon its mother, and the Wind carries it in its belly, its nurse is the Earth. This is the father of all perfection, or consummation of the whole world. Its power is integrating, if it be turned into earth.Thou shalt separate the earth from the fire, the subtle from the gross, suavely, and with great ingenuity. It ascends from earth to heaven and descends again to earth, and receives the power of the superiors and of the inferiors. So thou hast the glory of the whole world; therefore let all obscurity flee before thee. This is the strong force of all forces, overcoming every subtle and penetrating every solid thing. So the world was created. Hence were all wonderful adaptations, of which this is the manner. Therefore am I called Hermes Trismegistus, having the three parts of the philosophy of the whole world. What I have to tell is completed, concerning the Operation of the Sun."Tune in to our last on air Spirituality and Politics conversation on January 12th as we welcome in a new year and new beginnings. While this show will conclude its on air presence at Radio Kingston at the end of January, it will continue as a podcast, and Marielena is sure to return for more conversations as we move forward in a new way.Today's show was engineered by Ian Seda from Radiokingston.org.Our show music is from Shana Falana!Feel free to email me, say hello: she@iwantwhatshehas.org** Please: SUBSCRIBE to the pod and leave a REVIEW wherever you are listening, it helps other users FIND IThttp://iwantwhatshehas.org/podcastITUNES | SPOTIFYITUNES: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/i-want-what-she-has/id1451648361?mt=2SPOTIFY:https://open.spotify.com/show/77pmJwS2q9vTywz7Uhiyff?si=G2eYCjLjT3KltgdfA6XXCAFollow:INSTAGRAM * https://www.instagram.com/iwantwhatshehaspodcast/FACEBOOK * https://www.facebook.com/iwantwhatshehaspodcast

Inside is the skull of Gregor Clegane, which Obara Sand places on a marble pedestal. Doran declares that “the Mountain rides no more.” Ser Balon Swann, there on behalf of Queen Cersei, is made uneasy by the spicy food, the politics, and Princess Arianne's careful attention.Cersei's letter requests that Myrcella visit King's Landing, with Trystane to accompany her and Doran to take Oberyn's seat on the small council. Doran suggests they travel by ship, and Balon's reluctance to travel by sea does not go unnoticed. After the feast, Doran gathers Obara, Nymeria, Tyene, Arianne, Ellaria, and Hotah in his solar. Ellaria breaks at the Sand Snakes' refusal to accept the end of the blood feud with the Lannisters, rejecting the endless cycle of vengeance. When she leaves, the Sand Snakes demand war, but Doran forces them to swear obedience before revealing that Cersei's invitation is a trap meant to kill Trystane on the road. Instead of violating guest right by killing Swann, Doran assigns each Sand Snake a role: Obara will lead Swann to hunt Darkstar, Nymeria will escort Myrcella to court and take the small council seat, and Tyene will infiltrate the Sept of Baelor. Arianne will remain in Sunspear as his heir. They were the defending champs… and they were just getting started. After a draft in 1974 that would eventually produce 5 Hall of Famers… names like Lambert, Swann, Stallworth, Shell and Webster… the Steelers were ready to repeat as champions… and while the 2nd year players began to come into their own in '75, the team was led by Quarterback Terry Bradshaw, who 5 years after being the #1 overall pick out of Louisiana Tech, was finally ready to claim the role as QB1 without having to look over his shoulder.  And on the defensive side of things… the Steel Curtain was ready to wreak havoc on the opposing quarterbacks throughout the NFL. LC Greenwood, Ernie Holmes, Dwight White and the man on the cover of the September 22, 1975 issue of Sports Illustrated, Mean Joe Greene were laying the foundation for a Steelers dynasty… 4 Super Bowl wins in 6 years!  The NFL's first two-time Defensive Player of the Year winner, Joe Greene was everything you wanted in a leader… tough, driven, disciplined, and in this case, yes, a little mean. His years in Pittsburgh would end with a gold jacket in Canton and a legacy that is second to none in the Steel City, or anywhere for that matter. Alex Kozora is someone who appreciates Mean Joe and the Steelers and has been covering the team for over a decade as one of the hosts on The Terrible Podcast, a Steelers podcast for Pittsburgh Steelers fans where he and Dave Bryan discuss the goings on of one of the most successful franchises in the NFL. But that wasn't always the case. Prior to Chuck Noll's and Mean Joe's arrival in 1969, the Steelers had been to one playoff game in their 37 years in the NFL. But in 1972, that all changed… David Orochena is a writer for www.steelersdepot.com and contributor to The Terrible Podcast and he tells us that the “Immaculate Reception” was much more than just the Steelers winning their first ever playoff game. It was a defining moment for the sports structure of Pittsburgh. A week after Franco Harris caught the ball out of midair off a deflection, Roberto Clemente was tragically killed in a plane crash helping bring aid to an earthquake-ravaged Nicaragua. The death of a man who symbolized Pittsburgh and the Pirates completely devastated the city and according to Orochena, it was the Steelers that helped fill that void going forward. It's much more than just the X's & O's of professional football. It's a chat with two guys who know the ins and outs of a franchise that were the laughing stock of the NFL for decades… and turned it around in the mid 70's to become the envy of every organization in the league. Alex and David tell us about how Terry Bradshaw finally won the QB job for good in '75, how the Terrible Towel came to be and inspired a couple of guys years later to start a Terrible Podcast… and how one play changed the course of the Steelers franchise and how the Steel Curtain came to symbolize a team on it's way glory. They dominated and kicked tail and didn't care who got in their way… Was it nice? No… it was mean… Mean Joe Greene and the 1975 Steelers on the Past Our Prime podcast…  Listen to both Past Our Prime and The Terrible Podcast wherever you get your podcasts and please leave a review and a 5-star rating if you desire. On this week's episode we're tackling a topic we've been meaning to discuss for a long time: Despite being pervasive in both performance and medical spaces, SMART goals are no actually an evidence based way to change health and fitness behaviors. They may even, in some cases, be harmful. Our guest, Dr. Christian Swann, is a Professor of Psychology at Southern Cross University in Australia where he leads the Physical Activity, Sport and Exercise Research (PASER) group.Christian's background is in sport and exercise psychology, and his expertise is in goal setting. His research focuses on how to set goals to increase and maintain physical activity, and he is particularly interested in how different goal setting approaches make us feel while we pursue them — as well as how they influence our mental health. As part of an international team of researchers he published "The (over)use of SMART goals for physical activity promotion: A narrative review and critique." This article aimed to answer a few key questions:Is the SMART framework based on theory? Is it consistent with existing evidence? Does it consider what type of goal is set? Is it applied consistently? Is it being used as originally intended? Does it carry any risks?Once you learn the history of SMART goals, some of the answers become a lot less surprising...
