From a young age, Jenifer Massie was immersed in a culture of service, beginning with volunteering in her school's “gramps and grannies” program and extending to caring for her own family members. Her caregiving roles evolved over the years, from supporting her grandmother and great aunt to becoming a “sandwich caregiver” while raising her own children. Jenifer's approach to caregiving was shaped by her family's tradition of stepping in where needed, often without formal discussions, and by her deep sense of gratitude and responsibility.A pivotal chapter in Jenifer's journey came when her oldest brother was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer, and she became part of his care team. This period was marked by emotional vulnerability, profound family connection, and ultimately, her own diagnosis with colorectal cancer just weeks before her brother's passing. Experiencing both sides of care—giving and receiving—transformed Jenifer's perspective, teaching her the importance of self-advocacy, setting boundaries, and embracing vulnerability. Her faith played a central role in her healing and resilience, guiding her through the most challenging moments. Today, Jenifer channels her experiences into her professional work, supporting other caregivers and advocating for resources, self-care, and open family communication. Her story is a reminder of the strength found in community, the necessity of self-care, and the enduring impact of compassion.About Jenifer:Jenifer Alty Massie, Regional Director BrightStar Care, is a dedicated advocate for compassionate care and community support. A Lynchburg native, she deeply values the strong sense of connection between caregivers, clients, and staff. Before dedicating herself to raising three children, Jenifer worked as a counselor for runaway and at-risk youth, providing guidance and support during critical times. Over the years, she has also cared for aging and terminally ill family members, gaining firsthand experience in the importance of quality home care.In 2021, Jenifer was diagnosed with colorectal cancer, an experience that gave her a profound understanding of the impact exceptional home care can have during times of pain and uncertainty. She believes that the relationships between clients, caregivers, and nurses can provide comfort and stability when it is needed most.Thank you to our sponsor: CareScoutSupport the showConfessions of a Reluctant Caregiver Sisterhood of Care, LLC Website: www.confessionsofareluctantcaregiver.com Like us on Facebook! Jesse Cope explores the importance of prioritizing our relationship with God and honoring our marriage commitments while examining how America's founders viewed biblical principles as essential to good governance. Scripture readings from Galatians, Psalms, and Proverbs provide spiritual guidance while historical perspectives from influential American leaders illuminate our nation's moral foundation.• Making time for God should be our top priority• Marriage should reflect Christ's relationship with the church• Scripture emphasizes bearing each other's burdens and not growing weary in doing good• We will always harvest what we plant - both in our spiritual and earthly lives• America's founders repeatedly referenced the Ten Commandments as the basis for moral law• The idea that our founders wanted to separate God from government contradicts historical evidence• Medal of Honor recipient George H. In today's episode, we're talking about how foster care has impacted our families: the hard parts and the really good ones. Foster care is mission work, and like anything meaningful, it comes with its share of challenges and rewards. If you're curious about foster care or are already in it and looking for people who truly understand, this conversation is for you. We share how this journey has stretched us, grown our faith, and pushed us to rely on God more than ever. It's been refining in all the best (and hardest) ways. We believe we're all called to make disciples, and sometimes that looks like opening our homes to kids who need love and stability. Foster care has helped us develop tools we didn't know we needed, and we've seen so much growth, both in ourselves and our families. At the end of the day, God is good no matter what, and this experience has taught us to trust Him in deeper ways. On my show, The Clay Edwards Show, I sat down with former Mississippi House Speaker Philip Gunn, who shared a heart-wrenching story about losing his family in a tragic car accident. Broadcasting from Flora, Mississippi, I listened as Philip recounted the devastating event from 1988, 37 years ago, when he was 25 and in his second year of law school at Ole Miss. His parents, both 46, and his 20-year-old sister were killed when a drunk driver struck their car, causing it to explode. Philip, newly married, described the closeness of his Christian family—his sister, his biggest fan, would crawl into his bed as a child for comfort. The loss left him reeling, compounded by the criminal trial of the driver, a repeat offender convicted of three counts of vehicular manslaughter and sentenced to 60 years. Philip credited his faith in God and his wife's support for pulling him through, believing his family is in heaven and that he'll reunite with them one day. This tragedy reshaped his priorities, emphasizing faith and family above all, and fueled his resilience to become a transformative leader in Mississippi politics.

“Last words I ever told him was I love him and keep fighting. So that's what I'm gonna live by from now on, just keep fighting, keep going no matter the circumstance but just keep on going.” Jack Bech We try to find the right words to capture the impact and emotion of this episode, but this is one, that when you listen to it, you'll understand how rare and special of a human Jack Bech is and why any NFL team who drafts him, will instantly be better for it. Whether you're an athlete, a dreamer, or someone rebuilding from a loss, this episode is a reminder: the pivot isn't the end — it's where growth begins. Ryan, Channing and Fred visit Lafayette, Louisiana, home of the Bech family and sit with Jack at the place his football career all started, St. Thomas More Catholic High School. Recent tragedy struck his family as his older brother, Tiger, was a victim of the Bourbon Street New Year's Eve attack. Jack opens up on the horrific moments of that night as he reflects on losing his brother who he idolized in every aspect from football to his faith to being his best friend since he was a young boy. In a special moment, he reveals something that he hasn't publicly shared yet about losing his brother and why now is the right time to share, With Jack projected to be a day two pick in the upcoming NFL draft, he shares that NFL teams are getting a two-for-one special as he is no longer just playing for him, but his brother too. As a wide receiver, his football journey has been anything but linear. From LSU to TCU, Jack opens up about the highs, the heartbreaks, and the headspace it takes to bet on yourself when the world starts doubting you. Coming off a dominant final year in college ball, Jack shares how he's turned grief into grit—navigating injuries, transfers, and the pressure of expectations while holding tight to his love for the game. His family's heartbreak is added-fuel towards fulfilling his dream of a long successful NFL career and names a few star wide receivers he admires and models his game after from Cooper Kupp to LSU friends Ja'Marr Chase, Justin Jefferson and Malik Nabers, taking pieces of their style to craft into his own. Jack is ready for wherever his journey takes him next and his guardian angel will be there to join him in any NFL city he calls home, and if you don't believe him, just watch. The Pivot Family will be rooting for Jack and his family this weekend as his football fate is determined. Don't forget to subscribe and comment below. Learn more about your ad choices.
