Isaiah 43:1-7; Psalm 29: The Voice of God in a Great Storm, A Psalm of David; Luke 3:15-17, 21-22“The baptism of Jesus demonstrates abiding solidarity with humanity, particularlyexpressed in Luke's account. Jesus is with everyone else who is being baptized thatday. His presence as the intersection of human and divine does not becomerevealed until after the rite has concluded and all the people have been baptized. His humble approach to his ministry as well as his generosity in sharing hisexperiences and divine access are defined from the onset. Heaven opened for allof them just as John baptized all of them, including Jesus, the Messiah who will soonbe revealed.”Rev. Dr. Cheryl A. Lindsay, UCC Minister for Worship & Theology
This is Part 1 of a series on Focus. This message is Focus on Jesus. There is a common story of Jesus walking on the water in the Sea of Galilee, coming to a boat with the disciples inside. They see Jesus but aren’t sure it is Him. Therefore, Peter says to Jesus, “if it is you, tell me to come to you on the water.” Jesus does and Peter gets out of the boat. It isn’t long before Peter realizes he is in over his head. Peter loses focus. It is easy to do, that is to lose focus. Faith requires Focus. Peter re-focuses on Jesus and is saved. Find out how to keep focus and be more successful with your faith. And when you lose focus, re-focus.

The ancient fields of England are filled with such history that they could be considered a haunted landscape. Of course, this is just a figurative term, but could they actually be haunted by architectural forms? In this episode, we explore the phenomenon of vanishing houses and discuss reports of stately homes that seemingly reappear out of the mist of time. What is happening there? Is it possible for a house to haunt a landscape, or are time slips responsible? Could some unknown energy be propelling witnesses into other dimensions, and if so, are beings and entities behind it? Then, speaking of strange energies, in our Plus+ extension, we discuss the Great Storm of 1987 and hear how it may have been associated with black magic, landscape zodiacs, and the legend of a crystal cave under the pyramids of Egypt. In this episode of God Talk, we delve into the concept of praising God amidst life's inevitable storms. Drawing from recent events, including major hurricanes in Florida and the approaching election season, we explore how adversity shapes us into people of deep faith and trust in God. The message emphasizes that calm seas have never produced skilled sailors, and it is through trials and tribulations that we grow stronger. The discussion extends to the current political climate, highlighting the polarized reactions on both sides and the role of the church in addressing these issues. The episode calls for a return to truth and integrity, urging pastors and church leaders to boldly stand against the moral and political corruption of the day. With an upcoming Christmas theme of "Fear Not," the episode offers a message of hope and reassurance that God is with us, even as we face uncertain times. Join us as we anchor ourselves in the solid rock of Jesus Christ, preparing to navigate the turbulent seas ahead with faith and conviction. Remember, it is through stormy seas that great captains are made, and by standing firm in God's truth, we can weather any storm that comes our way.

The economy does not look good. There is a huge effort to prop it up until Nov 5, but is it working? According to previous guest Ricki DeSantis, "The Federal Reserve is buying up all the junk bonds in a desperate attempt to prop up the markets. In the meantime, Yellen is issuing massive amounts of Treasuries (to who?). The US Debt went from $22 trillion in 2019 to over $35 Trillion on Thursday. Unemployment is now surging...

Galveston, Texas, is often considered one of the most haunted places in America due to its history of tragedy and devastation. The Great Storm of 1900, the deadliest natural disaster in U.S. history, claimed up to 12,000 lives, leaving a lasting imprint on the island. Many believe the spirits of the hurricane's victims still linger. Many of Galveston's historic structures have withstood wars, natural disasters, and countless tragic events, contributing to their haunted reputations. The island's role in the Civil War, including the Battle of Galveston, adds another layer to its haunted history. The city has also experienced epidemics that caused numerous deaths, also contributing to Galveston's haunted status. These historical events and tragedies have created a collection of ghost stories and paranormal experiences that intrigue residents and visitors alike. The LORD sent a great wind on the sea to pursue after His prodigal prophet. The LORD will send storms in our life to bring us back to Him.
Control is a central theme in our lives, and this week's readings for the 12th Sunday in Ordinary Time invite us to reflect on who truly holds the reins. Through the imagery of the Great Storm, we are reminded of the divine authority of God amidst life's tumultuous moments. In the story of Job, God challenges Job's doubts, emphasizing His role as the omnipotent creator capable of stilling all storms. This powerful message is echoed in the Gospel as Jesus calms the violent squall that terrifies the disciples, questioning their faith in the process. We all encounter storms, both minor daily struggles and profound sufferings, and are urged to trust in God's guidance. As you face your own storms, consider whether you are relinquishing control to God or trying to steer alone. Is your faith strong enough to trust in His power to sustain you through life's greatest challenges? "What sort of man is this, that even winds and sea obey him?" He is Yahweh, and He is with us in every storm we face.
“Wonder then is a force of liberation, it makes sense of what our souls inherentlyknow we were meant for. Every mundane glimpse is salve on a wound, instructionsfor how to set the bone right again. If you really want to get free, find God on thesubway, find God in the soap bubble. Me, I meet God in the taste of my grandmaschicken, I hear God in the raspy leather of Nina Simone's voice, I see the face ofGod in the boney teenager bagging my groceries and why shouldn't I? My faith isheld together by wonder, by ever defined commitment to presence and payingattention.”-Cole Arthur RileyPsalm 29: The Voice of God in a Great Storm; John 3:1-12; Isaiah 6:1-8

In 1913 the Great Lakes were devastated by a Great Storm. But after all the death, destruction, and chaos of that white hurricane one ship tried to bring some Christmas joy back home to Chicago. The Rouse Simmons. Locked, loaded, and overloaded with fresh pine and Christmas carols… she was soon to be resting on the bottom of Lake Michigan instead of being safe in Chicago.
