In this message, Ray Machen-Gray invites the Echo Church family to pause, be fully present, and remember the staggering truth that the God who created the universe loves each of us personally and desires relationship with us. Drawing from 1 John 4 and the story of Peter walking on water in Matthew 14, Ray explores what it means to live in that love and to obey Jesus, even when His instructions seem counterintuitive or hard. Ray emphasizes that the point of the story isn't Peter's failure, but his willingness to get out of the boat at all—and Jesus' loving, immediate response when he faltered. Obedience, persistence, and desire for Jesus matter more than qualifications or strength. Ray challenges the church to: Live in the present with God, meeting Him “in the now.” Obey Jesus even when it's inconvenient or doesn't make sense. Pursue Jesus above all else, preferring to be with Him in the storm than safe without Him. Be willing to step out publicly, encouraging others with visible faith. Recognize our need, cry out quickly for help, and trust Jesus to rescue. Engage in evangelism so others can experience this life-changing love. The sermon closes with a call for the Echo Church community to commit to stepping out—whether in prayer, outreach, giving, or personal witness—trusting that Jesus will meet them in obedience and use them to reach those who don't yet know Him.
In this episode, Rabbi Schneider explains what to do when God's instructions just don't make sense.
Tune in as Rabbi Schneider explores the reality of spiritual warfare and the importance of embracing the supernatural power of the Holy Spirit in our lives.
This week, Rabbi Schneider teaches us how to overcome the everyday fears in our lives.
In Matthew 13, Jesus spoke of His movement and ministry with confidence and vision of what the future held. No one in His audience could've imagined what would become of His rabble following. All of these years later, the impact that He and His Church have had on our world and lives is self-evident. We get to live our lives out on this side of all of Jesus' promises and their fulfillments, and thus are without excuse as to not opt in to His Kingdom and Reign. In this message, we consider the impact that Jesus has had on our world and how every life has been influenced for good by His teaching. We hear His invitation to pursue the Kingdom of God above all other causes and priorities and are confronted with questions as to how we are spending our time. At the end of this age, everything done without Christ at the center will be considered a waste and will perish. Are we wasting the gift and opportunity that God has given us? When this age is done, only that which was done for Christ will matter.
What if we began to see every fear as more than a loop of emotional turmoil, but rather an opportunity to obtain a stronger, greater faith? What if every fear is actually a test of our faith and an invitation to surrender to God for more faith? Listen as we wrestle with our greatest fears and how faith often causes our fears to rise. We discover that fear overpowers our faith in many instances and hear Jesus offer us relief. Jesus never tells us that our fears are illegitimate. He merely reminds us that a greater faith is possible, even when confronted with the most intimidating, debilitating trouble.
Jesus outlined the true nature of Christianity from the very beginning. The call to follow Him has not changed and is not reserved for some elite level believers. We are all held to the same standard - the original call from the shores of Galilee

Theologians describe Jesus' ministry as “peripatetic” because he moved from place to place. He did not settle in Nazareth and told everyone to come to him. He walked around, visited, talked, and ate with people. In the five Sundays leading up to Palm Sunday, we will travel with Jesus from his temptation in the wilderness to meeting fishermen on the beach to eating with a tax collector in Jericho. Along the way, we will grow in our faith and faithfulness just as the disciples did as they walked with Jesus. Our scripture today is Luke 5:1-11: "Then Jesus said to Simon, 'Do not be afraid; from now on you will be catching people.'"Find all Lent information and Holy Week service times and locations at villagepres.org/lent. Jesus is teaching beside the Sea of Galilee when the crush of the crowds prompts him to climb aboard St. Peter's boat and request the soon-to-be-apostle to shove off from shore. Little does Peter know that this is only Our Lord's first request. We'll spend our episode exploring the ins and outs of fishing on the Sea of Galilee and we'll get our hands dirty in the original Greek so as to immerse ourselves into the full emotion of the exchange. Finally, we'll round out our discussion by diving into the Old Testament context for Peter's commissioning as a “fisher of men.” (Mass Reading for Feb 9, 2025) /// Join Katie's Jubilee Pilgrimage to Rome & Assisi: https://kptz.io/rome Registration is closing this March!

This is Part 1 of a series on Focus. This message is Focus on Jesus. There is a common story of Jesus walking on the water in the Sea of Galilee, coming to a boat with the disciples inside. It isn’t long before Peter realizes he is in over his head. Peter loses focus. It is easy to do, that is to lose focus. Faith requires Focus. Peter re-focuses on Jesus and is saved. Find out how to keep focus and be more successful with your faith. And when you lose focus, re-focus.

In one of his most amazing feats, Jesus sleeps through a mega-storm on the Sea of Galilee. We'll spend our time together uncovering the quite detailed picture archaeology can paint for us about seafaring in first century Palestine and we'll also unveil some fascinating parallels between our Gospel and the Old Testament Book of Jonah. At the end of the day what we discover in our Gospel is not so much a God aloof in the face of our fears but a Son carefree in His trust of the Father and desiring the same for us.

It is a moment reminiscent of one of Israel's greatest leaders and causes those present to wonder if Jesus might be the one they've been waiting for.
