This is one of those mixes where there's not much to say about it because there is no theme. It's just a nice collection of wonderful ambient tunes. Most of the tracks are fairly slow and drifty. A few of these I just discovered at the end of 2024 by browsing end-of-the-year lists. One of those is Gems III by Celer which as an absolutely beautiful record. Another one that was new to me is the closing track - "Il Mare Cancella, Di Notte(II)," a long, slow cut that I wish could go on forever. Here's to the start of 2025 and looking ahead to a year filled with excellent music. Cheers! An atmospheric ambient mix with Nikosf, Warmth, Alveol, Halftribe... Selected & mixed by Are Morica.
I've been a fan of halftribe(Ryan Bissett) ever since he approached me about doing a guest mix roughly 6 years ago - whoa, blows my mind that it was that long ago. Whether it's deep & dubby or straight up ambient, halftribe has released some of my favorite albums over the last 5 or 6 years. So I was excited when Ryan agreed to do a guest mix. Here's what Ryan said about the mix: "It's been a little while since I put a mix together as I've been mostly just working on my next album. It's even longer since I did a mix for someone else's show, so this mix really just showcases the types of sound that are floating my boat at the minute." Shimmering Moods is an independent boutique ambient label based in Amsterdam. In the last couple of years, it has released albums by Halftribe, Andrew Tasselmyer, Anthéne, øjeRum, Purl, and Olan Mill, among the many recognized names in its quickly growing roster of artists. It’s easy to get lost in its catalog among the hazy, shuffling, dubbed-out sounds, glinting and shimmering, reflecting the light off the still misty waters. This is a very tranquil and radiant place, slightly subdued in its faint hazy colors. “The music offers the listener a soundtrack for daydreaming, walks around the city or in nature, a creative activity, meditation, or invites them to a fully concentrated listen.” Today I am happy to share these sounds with you in this special label showcase compiled exclusively for Headphone Commute. And if you like what you hear, be sure to visit the label’s Bandcamp shop, where every limited release is lovingly packaged, hand-made, and bespoke, awaiting to meet at your doorsteps and share its wonders. sounds swim all around drifting in the warm embrace of this strange beauty This my second 4th world mix and it's similar to the 2018 version. It still follows the Jon Hassell esthetic of "a unified primitive/futuristic sound combining features of world ethnic styles with advanced electronic techniques." Most of the tracks are new, 10 of the 17 tracks being from 2019 or 2020. I was almost done with the mix when an excellent new album from Halftribe dropped on the 24th. Listening to the first track I knew I had to buy it and sneak that cut into the mix somewhere. It fits perfectly. https://shimmeringmoodsrecords.bandcamp.com/album/cloud-dreaming-and-shadows The two recordings that got me going with this mix are Andrew Pekler - Sounds From Phantom Islands and Romeo Poirier - Hotel Nota. https://andrewpeklerfaitiche.bandcamp.com/album/sounds-from-phantom-islands https://sferic.bandcamp.com/album/hotel-nota One of my favorite parts of this mix comes at the 24:30 mark. There two tracks playing simultaneously. One from Eli Keszler is mostly percussion and the other by Walt Rockman is shimmering electric piano with under water vibe. I didn't intend on those two going together, I just accidentally left one of the tracks on my timeline and when they played together I knew I had to keep it. I don't know if this type of mix works in the middle of autumn but I just couldn't put it off any longer. I hope you enjoy this Indonesian fever dream. Cheers! FOR DECADES, globalization has been a fact of life. And even before Covid-19, it was becoming controversial. Now, with critical supply chains being disrupted by the pandemic, we're having a bit of a rethink. Whatever happens with global trade, one thing is certain: the global exchange of music, film, art and media is a cultural fact of life that will remain as vibrant and creative as ever. San Francisco is the home of Six Degrees Records, a company that's been dedicated to crossing musical borders since 1996, with the provocative slogan "everything is closer than you think." They live the idea, releasing a wide range of traditional and progressive music from around the planet. On this transmission of Hearts of Space, an Anglo-American ambient journey, on a program called SIX DEGREES OF AMBIENT. Music is by ANOTHER FINE DAY, TOM MIDDLETON, BOB HOLROYD, TOM GREEN, HALFTRIBE, ANDREW HEATH, DARSHAN AMBIENT, JEFF PEARCE, RICHARD NORRIS, and MARK ISHAM. As I have said about 8 million times before, many mixes start with a single track. In this case it was the rediscovery of the track "Warming Trend" by Adam Pacione. It's a gentle, droning track that reminds me of Eno's Discreet Music. I knew I wanted to use the tune in a mix and then realized that the track name would make a good title for a mix. From there I went in search of cuts that made me think of rising temps as we move from spring to summer. So a natural first selection would be "For the Summer, Or Forever" from Halftribe's excellent new album. Most of the tunes are new, predominantly from 2017 & 2018. And they all have a lazy, slow feel that works well with the title. Grab a cool drink(personal fav would be a tequilla mule) and hang out with this new mix. Cheers! Back in July I featured a guest mix from halftribe. It was an excellent mix & a nice break for me. Well, Ryan Bissett(halftribe) has kindly offered another mix and I jumped at the chance to post it. This mix is absolutely pure ambient bliss. A beautiful collection perfect for any time of year or any time of day. I've been listening to it at work and have used it as sleep material as well. Give it a listen/download, I'm sure any ambient lover will enjoy this mix. The timing on this could be better. I've been very busy lately and haven't been able to do a mix. So it's the perfect time for a guest mix. This mix comes to us from Ryan Bissett who produces ambient music as Halftribe. What I love about guest mixes is that I'm usually unfamiliar with many of the tracks. And this mix does exactly that. Only two artists were known to me before I heard this mix. Thanks to Ryan for introducing me to even more new music that I'll never have enough time to listen to. LOL! Halftribe music is one of the discoveries in this mix. Any ambient music fan will appreciate the music of Halftribe. Here are some useful links to Ryan's music... I have received an incredibly amazing mix-gift from an artist known as HALFTRIBE. This will blow you mind in a very non-abrasive and tranquil sort of way. I'm really lucky to have been contacted by Halftribe (aka Ryan Bissett) asking to host a mix. Normally, I contact the DJ and am (luckily) always given a green light to host the mixes. I have to say, I was really happy to have received contact from Ryan to host this mix. It's not often that I get goosebumps from being taken in by such intense sets, but this one is one of the rare ones that did the trick. This one sits where I want, in the foreground, in the background, bathing in the aura of its intense harmonic vibe. Halftribe has been very busy, creating amazing mixes as well as churning out some original music (links for everything are below).Halftribe got into electronic music long ago through way of New Order (1986 on CD and Technique on Vinyl), which opened a gateway to the rave scene in the UK during the late 80's and early 90's. It was at these raves that Halftribe gotten taken in by the post rave chill music, and his fascination for ambient music sparked an interest in exploring its history. As with many frustrated creative artists with an ear for music but without means to create, that path seemed to be expensive and inaccessible. When DAW's became available, Halftribe finally had the opportunity to begin producing deep house, techno, and (mainly) ambient and downtempo. He has released on VENT SOUNDS,ATRIUM DIGITAL, and ASSEMBLY FIELD. When not creating original compositions, he spends his time remixing and has been fortunate, through his links within the industry, to be asked to do a remix for Karl Hyde from UNDERWORLD for his solo album (as well as commissioned for other remix work). In terms of mixes, Halftribe favors searching mostly undiscovered talent found on Soundcloud as well as Bandcamp, and used to do a regular mini-mix on his Soundcloud page to showcase these artists. It just so happened that one of these mixes got shared on MIXMASTER MORRIS' Facebook page, and the interest that it sparked led to a monthly mix for M:CAST RADIO which lasted 2 years. One might call if fate, that Halftribe was a huge fan of Mixmaster Morris when first getting into ambient music and own albums of his in his Irresistible Force guise. This year Halftribe is creating mixes for different sites, and has already had mixes up on PANAMBIENT, CIRCUMAMBIENT, SPACES FM, and ART OF BEATZ. You can find Halftribe's original music on his SOUNDCLOUD page and his BANDCAMP page. To hear more of his amazing mixes, you can steer toward his WEBSITE and his MIXCLOUD page. Keep up with him at TWITTER to get updates on his aural activities.I'm absolutely honored to be a part of Halftribe's musical quest, and hope that in some way my small part in this brings him just a bit more success. It's very inspiring to see an artist that is so very proactive, and that is without a doubt very inspiring for me! Thanks, Halftribe!turn on, tune in, sleep...ambient-transmission.blogspot.comfacebook.com/tonepoetmusic
Lara George has a voice like an angel. So it’s a good thing that she sings gospel if not someone up there might want their voice back. I was first introduced to Lara’s music by my cousin this summer. She handed me her first two CDs, ‘Forever in my Heart’ and ‘Lara George’, as going […]

It is amazing how you can have really good conversations and sometimes, it’s not until much later that certain things happen that crystallize those conversations. A dear friend, another film director, had recommended Irapada to me several years ago and I remember we talked about it as we do so many things, he telling me […]
How did it start? Paul and Lale were neighbors at 25 Branco Street, downtown Lagos, and after school, they would sit on their stoops and discuss ideas. And one day they decided to start their own organization. There were other clubs and organizations at the time but they felt those focused more on dances and […]
This year we celebrated my dad’s 80th birthday and one of my dearest Uncles, Uncle Fola, in his tribute, mentioned the Solidra Circle. I thought it was a nice story at the time but did not think much of it after. Since then I have revived my blog, halftribedotcom, and have been thinking about how […]
