It's been almost 50 years since 1978, when the influential English recording artist and producer BRIAN ENO—in a historic bit of cultural appropriation—took the name “ambient” for an emerging genre of atmospheric contemporary music, and started an independent record label to publish it. The approach had been evolving since the early 20th century in artistic and experimental music circles, including impressionism, avant garde, electronic, psycho-acoustic soundscapes, new age, and minimalism. If there was a common element in these diverse genres, it was an emphasis on tone, texture, atmosphere, and spatial sound images, over traditional musical theory and structure. The genre was unusually open to influences from slow, quiet music from other cultures and historical eras, where it found hypnotic repetitions, psychoactive fractal patterns, modal drones, and consonant harmony. In time, modern listeners also came to appreciate the therapeutic power of ambient music to manage stress, enhance concentration, and support meditative and spiritual experience. Today, a new generation of dedicated ambient composers are creating new music of great subtlety and power. On this transmission of Hearts of Space, therapeutic ambient for unpredictable times, on a program called "RESTORATION." Music is by DAVID HELPLING & ERIC "THE" TAYLOR, MICHAEL STEARNS & CHRISTIAN HALTEN, ISHQ, MATTHEW STEWART, ANDREW HEATH, and STEVE ROACH. Wokal Distance AKA Michael Young is a cultural researcher at the Center for Renewing America. We discuss the history of American culture and counterculture—specifically how the cycle of commodified non-conformity is used to control the masses and expand the very capitalism that its proponents (originally the Critical Theorists) sought to undermine. Also, where does this leave the “ascendant” cultural right? If it's all just a cycle of faux rebellion, where is there to ascend to? The books discussed are The Rebel Sell by Andrew Heath and Joseph Potter, and The Conquest of Cool by Thomas Frank. This is one of those mixes where there's not much to say about it because there is no theme. It's just a nice collection of wonderful ambient tunes. Most of the tracks are fairly slow and drifty. A few of these I just discovered at the end of 2024 by browsing end-of-the-year lists. One of those is Gems III by Celer which as an absolutely beautiful record. Another one that was new to me is the closing track - "Il Mare Cancella, Di Notte(II)," a long, slow cut that I wish could go on forever. Here's to the start of 2025 and looking ahead to a year filled with excellent music. Cheers! Dear listeners, I have yet another very important tale for you today, and one of absolute truth! This is above and beyond the tale that I laid upon your mind in the podcast Camping Under The Stars, Vol. 5 (Sanctuary), which was a mere 2 weeks of living off of the land and surviving on hot dogs, bananas, and peanut butter. Dear listeners, this tale stretches across 3 years. 3 long YEARS!! It is not one that was pleasant, but it had a(n eventual) happy ending. How does that tie into today's episode?? Well, let me tell you....... In a time not long ago, during a weird and upside-down world of toilet paper shortages and no haircuts lived a content little dude whom we will call Poemhobbit. He lived in his happy village with his happy family and created musings of aural jewels for people all over the world which he delivered like an Easter egg. Well, for some odd reason, Poemhobbit and his family felt that they should travel to a land unknown, so he sold his tiny cottage quickly and with a prosperous outcome. Poemhobbit was so happy! But, before he and his family would decide on the perfect place, they would live in a less-than-desirable village that was infested by a sub-societal mob of unhappy zombies that smelled of burning skunk cigarettes. 'It is okay', thought Poemhobbit, 'it will not last for more than 3 months. I will take this negative experience and thrive, nonetheless. These 3 months will go by quickly and we will have departed before any misery sets in!' And so it was..... However, those 3 months turned into 6 months. Then, into a year. And, yet another year. And another year after that. And anot........wait, how many years is that?!? So, Poemhobbit was stuck in this prison-like dystopian cubicle for 3 years. And, the misery did set in. In fact, it festered like a cancer. The family was unhappy, hope had abandoned them, their dreams turned into dusty cobwebs, and escaping was something that was never even talked about without malice and regret. Poemhobbit was miserable, and his joy for the arts became a chore and a cumbersome endeavor. It was difficult for Poemhobbit to weave sounds and spread joy when it had escaped him. But, Poemhobbit never gave up. He didn't always allow his family to know of his struggles, and instead fought to shine positive light on the negative situation. He fueled them with his (fake) optimism and assurance. Moreso, Poemhobbit had to really convince himself that his misery was perception, and that his ambitions would pull him out of the quicksand. He had to be the beacon of light, the sunbeam to those that depended upon him, and somehow find the strength to burn through the shadows and dust. 'Stay strong', Poemhobbit told himself, 'and let those that follow you tread upon a path of optimism and diligence.' Well, as fate would have it, persistence finally did win. Poemhobbit held out and never stopped raining hope and optimism upon his family. They were eventually able to escape the inferno of stinky skunk cigarettes burned by sketchy circus clowns. This journey in time was very debilitating physically, emotionally, and spiritually. If Poemhobbit gave up hope (which nearly happened many, many times), then he would have let down his family. In the end, Poemhobbit found a nice cottage in a small village where he had laid his wishes. Fortune smiled down upon his family, and the fire inside him rekindled once again. The struggle for comfort had finally subsided. Sometimes, to succeed you need the positive person around you to inspire you and light up your ambitions. Sometimes that person needs to be you. While the modern world wants us to let out everything and seek comfort from our hardships, your boy Poemhob........... I mean Tonepoet, believes that controlling this like a water spigot and knowing when, how much, and to who you water your hardships to is an exercise of optimal self-control. Seek a co-pilot that can give you guidance when you need it, so that you can ignite the light inside those that rely on you for assurance during tough times. And, in turn, be an inspirational sunbeam to others. Things will work out for you if you show persistence and patience. In April of 2020 I posted "Of Reed and Breath" which is an ambient sax mix. You can find that mix here: http://lowlightmixes.blogspot.com/2020/04/of-reed-and-breath.html https://www.mixcloud.com/lowlight/of-reed-and-breath/ When I created that one I wasn't sure how it would work. Turns out, ambient sax is a great theme to build a mix on. I've been planning on a follow up for a long time and it's finally here. Since that first mix two years ago I have totally bought into wind instruments in ambient and modern composition music. That's why my fav album from last year was "Departures" by mastroKristo(who makes an appearance in this mix). From Clariloops to Sam Gendel to Dirk Serries to Andrew Heath, sax and other woodwinds have become a big part of my ambient listening habit. All the tracks in this mix are excellent but I especially love the cut from Matt Borghi & Michael Teager and the cut from Dirk Serries. Perfect combo of sax and ambient. I also have to mention the final track Max Richter's On the Nature of Daylight by Signum Saxophone Quartet. That track is one of my favorites of all time so when I found a sax quartet cover of it I nearly lost my mind. Perfect way to end the mix. Cheers! Matt and Brian are joined by return guest Andrew Heath, and this time they aren't talking about whatever Zack Snyder is up to! They go over their thoughts about Michael Myers killing absolutely everything in the new Halloween Kills! They all go over what they like about the movie, Michael Myers finally embodying the essence of evil and being intimidating, the bonkers kill count, the misdirection of what motivated Michael to kill in the first place, our dislikes of the movie(which there are a few), and where we think the Halloween franchise is heading, along with giving the final word about Malignant, along with so much more!

Can the Saints keep up without Brees? Are the Panthers ready to take the next step with Sam Darnold and Jaycee Horn? What are the Falcons doing? Then, we go off the field with Andrew Heath, the owner, CEO, and brains of Kid Cards Club (kidcardsclub.com). Andrew Heath is a senior director at JD Power working in its utility intelligence practice. He shared lots of insights about the firm’s traditional utility customer satisfaction tracking and benchmarks and also about the new environmental and social governance metrics for the electric industry. How the tremendous investments that are being made in modernizing the industry are perceived is critical as the firm found out customers who know more about infrastructure work being done seem to have a higher level of satisfaction, but the industry is not always great at sharing the news of the benefits its work may be building.

One of our listeners found Sequences podcasts on several more music sites, these include Owitail.com, Podbay.com, Himalaya.com, Mytuner-Radio.com & Book.com without our permission, but in one way it’s more outlets to get the music across on the internet. Again there’s plenty of diversity in this edition which we always try to achieve with ten new names appearing, perhaps not all their music here is to everybody’s taste, but hopefully, it makes it more interesting to hear sounds that you might pass by. Don’t forget to check the playlist & bio pages of individual musicians on our website. We leave you now with the new project ‘Kontrol Raum’ by Bas Broekhuis, Frank Rothe & Mario Schonwalder. Andrew Heath has been around the game of basketball his entire life as a player, coach, consultant and trainer. After finishing his undergraduate degree at Emmanuel College, where he was a two sport athlete in Basketball and Track & Field, he quickly found himself back on the court coaching and training. Over the next few years he had the opportunity to work with high level players from the NBA, WNBA, international leagues and collegiate athletes while working part time at the Harvard University Athletic Department as a Marketing and Promotions Assistant. During the summer months he managed professional exposure camps helping recent college grads and current pros secure contracts in the international market. Andrew went on to get his Master's Degree at Manhattanville College in Sports Management while serving as a team manager for the ABA's (American Basketball Associations) Bronx Holy Flames. Upon finishing his degree he moved to Beijing, China where he continued his basketball journey, as a manager and coach for the NBA Yao Basketball Club and NBA Academy in addition to serving as an assistant coach at Harrow International School. Furthermore, during his time in Beijing he was part of the Beijing Panthers, competing in leagues, games and tournaments throughout China. Upon returning to America, he founded Andrew Heath Basketball(AHB), a basketball coaching and consulting company working with athletes of all ages and skill sets. Under AHB, Andrew has leveraged his international network to host camps and clinics in Hong Kong, Australia and Mexico. In 2019, Andrew co-founded Ball 2 Books, a non-profit initiative providing educational resources and supplies to underserved communities and schools.
Deleveloping players of great leadership, character, personal and professional accountability if you ask Andrew Heath what gets him excited to get out of bed in the morning, there is a good chance he'd give you this very answer. As a professional basketball coach, Andrew has developed players domestically and internationally at all levels. His main objective is to use his extensive experience as a player and coach to produce results and help you achieve your goals. He joined me this week to tell me how he works to inspire basketball players of all ages both on and off the court. Luke and Andrew were members of the Corner Canyon State Championship basketball team (2019) during the time that Luke came out as gay (Luke was also the Student Body President). Andrew (who is leaving on his LDS mission in October to Belgium) and Luke (who is dating men and attending the University of Utah) talk about how they continue to be best friends. Nothing change. How they honor and support each other --- even with different feelings on some issues. I talk about Luke and Andrew on page 270 in my book (https://www.amazon.com/dp/1462135773) and how, when I was in high school, I withdrew from the gay people and wish I could go back and be like Andrew. I believe these two men are using Christ teachings and His example to show love and support to each other and come together as the same human family. And how to reduce division and divisiveness that I don’t believe are part of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Luke and Andrew are two outstanding men who have great lives ahead of them. Thanks for being on the podcast. Your example will help many.

Security, safety, and health are hot topics in 2020. Rapid population growth, paired with the COVID-19 pandemic, has caused Downtown Bentonville, Inc. to rethink large downtown events and gatherings. We invited Andrew Heath, Executive Director of Downtown Bentonville, Inc., to discuss the organization's new partnership with SafeHaven Security Group, with the mission to ensure events like Farmers Market remain safe for families to socialize, support small business, and gather for entertainment.
In 2011, Dave Heath was an aspiring entrepreneur in search of an idea when a single line in a news story caught his attention. It said that the number one most requested item in homeless shelters was socks. Dave’s mind was spinning and Bombas, the idea, was formed. Together with his colleague Randy Goldberg, Heath set out to launch a line of socks with a twist. For every pair of socks purchased, Heath and Goldberg would pledge to donate a pair to homeless shelters. It was a bold and potentially risky plan. So they enlisted creative support from Andrew Heath and Aaron Wolk to produce the perfect sock. By 2013 the co-founders launched Bombas, which is Latin for bumblebee, after raising a little more than 100,000 dollars on Indiegogo. Within a year, they were pitching their idea on Shark Tank and successfully acquired the interest, and additional seed money from apparel impresario Daymond John. Bombas was off and running. Today, Bombas is a juggernaut in the apparel industry, not just for their sales volume but their mindshare. Dave and his co-founders proved that you can build a sustainable and profitable business on a wholesome premise of giving. And from a practical standpoint, they dispelled certain myths of building a retail brand. You see, what makes Bombas special is their commitment to their core values. But what makes them unique, particularly in apparel, is that they’ve been profitable from year one. -- Show Notes: Bombas Socks Giving Back If you enjoyed this podcast, please subscribe, share with your friends and rate and review on Apple Podcasts and Podchaser. FOR DECADES, globalization has been a fact of life. And even before Covid-19, it was becoming controversial. Now, with critical supply chains being disrupted by the pandemic, we're having a bit of a rethink. Whatever happens with global trade, one thing is certain: the global exchange of music, film, art and media is a cultural fact of life that will remain as vibrant and creative as ever. San Francisco is the home of Six Degrees Records, a company that's been dedicated to crossing musical borders since 1996, with the provocative slogan "everything is closer than you think." They live the idea, releasing a wide range of traditional and progressive music from around the planet. On this transmission of Hearts of Space, an Anglo-American ambient journey, on a program called SIX DEGREES OF AMBIENT. Music is by ANOTHER FINE DAY, TOM MIDDLETON, BOB HOLROYD, TOM GREEN, HALFTRIBE, ANDREW HEATH, DARSHAN AMBIENT, JEFF PEARCE, RICHARD NORRIS, and MARK ISHAM. This mix started nearly two years ago when I created a playlist on Spotify called "Sax is Back." In there I collected tracks that used a saxophone as a main instrument and had an ambient vibe. I was careful to not let the tunes devolve into Kenny G on the beach schlock. But I still wasn't sure if an entire mix of sax tunes would work, but, I gotta say, this mix turned out really well. It's cohesive and a nice variation on straight forward ambient. One caveat - I'm not entirely sure that the instrument in every song is indeed a saxophone. Soprano sax can sometimes sound like an oboe so there may be a couple of times where that may happen. But I don't really care, I just love the sound of this whole mix. A few of my favorite tracks in the mix are: - Blue Chamber by Mute Forest from the excellent new album, Riderstorm, on Lost Tribe Sound. - A Break in the Clouds by Andrew Heath from Soundings - Music for Airports by Delta Saxophone Quartet from Bowie, Berlin & Beyond I hope you enjoy this slight detour into ambient sax. April … time flies … but not fast enough for the most of us. Here’s a brand new show mixing the very best artists back to back, offering a wonderful listening experience, making it possible to just ‘stop time’ and focus on tunes, vibes and dreams we have. The ‘Microcosmos’ episode will help you to take things easy and to shift the focus from the outside world to the inside world: YOU. Because YOU are the most important ingredient. YOU are one of many but so unique, YOU have qualities no one else has, YOU can start creating. Step into the ‘Microcosmos’ and listen closely … The more you experience your true nature, the closer you are to the field of pure potentiality. Show for Mid-November brings you tape, coffee, chill-out moments and the most impressive music in the (experimental) ambient genre! Melodic adventures from past and present at the end of the year 2019 .... that’s right: a new decade is around the corner and we have a special request. Do you recognize the sound of the thing in my hands? … Totally impressed by the audio quality of old tapes, we’re going to make this a feature on future shows. It’s simply amazing how Ambient music from old tapes arrives in our ears…. a recent comparison of tape and the digital copy of a certain track made me decide to give my Technics Deck a place of it’s own in the studio. No more hiding in the closet! So what’s the audio about today? Musical contributions by Drome, Andrew Heath, Off Land, Off the Sky, Biosphere, Motionfield, Steve Roach, Kiphi, Josh Leake, Eguana. Listeners of the Nonstop®edition will agree: today’s tunes will be causing that magic again, best consumed in a nonstop flow. Something you won’t experience anywhere else but here at our station. Welcome to Spacemusic 11.21 “Noise of Art “, an experience you will not easily forget. Enjoy! // ambient zone //

The wind and the engines causing a true sound phenomenon that interludes today’s mix of extreme laid-back tracks. Coming from Within, this episode tells a story about a guy deciding to leave his native country, in search of peace and quiet, to realize what he’s been dreaming of all his life: becoming a successful music promoter and producer on an island located in the Eastern Mediterranean. Despite his struggle to survive the cold during winter, the heat during summer, dust, wind and very strange habits from the locals, he decides to stay around on the island and reach out to his true fans: the show community that has been in the ether for such a long time. Some even more than 10 years, some even since the very first show release. He calls them to keep communicating, coming together and share thoughts, feelings and visions, posting comments and tell other people about the fantastic journey, how it changed their lives and how good it would be for everyone to come and join the community, supporting the number one platform for Ambient and Electronic music entertainment. The guy’s reason for existence. From Within. Dr Andrew Heath discusses the available online resources for history teachers. Andrew Heath joined the History Department in 2008. After growing up on the outskirts of Bristol, he read History from 1997 to 2001 at University College London, before receiving his Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania in 2008. He has taught at the University of Pennsylvania and Bristol University. Andrew's research interests lie primarily in the political, urban, and social history of the Nineteenth-Century United States. His thesis, which won the 2008 Urban History Association Prize for the best dissertation in Urban History, explores how imperial expansion, national consolidation, and economic development shaped the reconstruction of Philadelphia in the decades either side of the Civil War as citizens vied to make their city the main node between Europe and Asia: the London and Paris of America. He has also written on transatlantic working-class radicalism and monarchists in the Reconstruction-era U.S. Andrew won the Student Union Academic Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2011-12 and 2012-13, and a Senate Award for Early Career teaching in 2013. Alongside running modules on nineteenth-century U.S. history, he lectures on Paths from Antiquity to Modernity and Cities.
