It's official. President Joe Biden announced his reelection bid this week. "Inside the Issues: The Podcast" hosts Alex Cohen and Sara Sadhwani discuss all the California angles, including the Californians running against him and Gov. Gavin Newsom's Biden endorsement. Could Newsom's allyship pay off? Loyalty is a word usually not associated with politicians, except if that politician is Biden — just ask Eric Garcetti. Then, allies form in Sacramento in the debate over fentanyl in an attempt to curb its use. And taxpayers spent $400,000 on security at City Hall in the wake of the leaked racist conversation. Was that too much? In Orange County, the election shuffle continues with Harley Rouda bowing out of the congressional race. Who is still in the running?

Is there ANY hope for a sane and reasonable Republican Party? The true conservatives in Congress are fewer in number and being forced into hiding. In their place, the loud, insistent rantings of the far-right are screaming from the rooftops (and on Fox "News") to drown out anyone who speaks the truth. It's not easy being Liz Cheney or Mitt Romney these days.  As the stalwarts continue to be booed and vilified for not supporting the New Republican agenda, which seems to be nothing more than “Trump won, Biden stole the election”, and everything Biden does sucks. We are sure Abe would turning in his grave seeing what has become of the "Party of Lincoln".All indications are that Cheney will be losing her leadership role as soon as this week, but she is standing her ground, for which we have to give her credit.Meantime, the sycophants continue to make the pilgrimage to Mar a Lago and the former guy still has a chokehold on the GOP.Add to that Mitch McConnell's refusal to even entertain Biden's Jobs Plan, despite the majority of Americans being in favor of it.  And, despite the fact that it would be a one-two punch to both our crumbling infrastructure and the employment numbers.  Why?  Well, 1) because it comes from a Democratic president and 2) because it would reverse the 2017 Trump tax “bill” in order to pay for it and Lord knows our billionaires are hurting. Asking Jeff Bezos to pay a penny in taxes? Madness! Finally, we'll discuss all the hoopla about transgender athletes, which seems like just another distraction by the right-wing media and their GOP lackeys who just don't want to do their jobs. And that's not all, we conclude our two-part interview with Rep. Harley Rouda who gives us some behind-the-curtain insights into what life is like as a Democrat in the House of Representatives.

After promising to deliver 100 million shots in his first 100 days, President Biden upped the stakes, applied the pressure, and obliterated that initial projection. Over 230 million vaccine shots have been administered to Americans of all ages.  By any measure, it has been a soaring success, one that took firm resolve, reliance on experts, and the following of science. This major milestone also comes exactly one year after President Trump suggested that the virus could be beaten if people would just ingest bleach or insert powerful lights into their bodies.  We have certainly come a long way.Much remains to be done and the pressure to keep up the march forward on huge issues including the effort to fix America's crumbling infrastructure remains a high priority. Democrats are hitting the road with a succinct and urgent call to muster support for what would be a signature piece of legislation and create hundreds of thousands of jobs.To help us understand what goes on inside the halls of Congress where the partisan divide grows greater every day, Former (and hopefully returning) Congressman Harley Rouda joins Robin and David for the first of a two-part series examining the huge successes and some stumbles that the Biden/Harris Administration has experienced as they attempt to heal our fractured nation.Oh and if that wasn't enough, California Governor Gavin Newsom will have to face a recall vote that promises to be a three-ring circus, because well....California.  Caitlin Jenner and a host of TMZ regulars will surely be vying for their moments of fame. How it will play out is anyone's guess.

In 2018, he defeated long-time Orange County Congressman Dana Rohrabacher. He was inside the House's SCIF as some GOP members "stormed" inside.  "It was obviously a stunt...We had 20, 25 additional Republicans not on this committee force their way through the doors...some with their cell phones out taking pictures, which caused a huge raucous..." Asked if he believes President Trump should be impeached, he responds, "I do." The Congressman reacts to the wildfires in the golden state & the precautionary power-shutoffs Governor Newsom says is a result of "Dog-eat-dog capitalism." "Governor Newsom is right. The Federal government has failed, in my opinion, to get an infrastructure bill through. As climate change creates more severe, more often storms, we have to be better prepared." Then, our one-on-one with NBA legend Meta World Peace, who's become an outspoken advocate for mental health awareness in the U.S. "You want to be vulnerable. The more...you feel comfortable with yourself, they more you're going to help someone else." World Peace also addresses the "NBA-China" controversy, a dispute anchored around free speech. "I understand everyone runs their country differently. But, when you're working with America and America is working with China, you have to embrace the culture." Finally, a crossover between "Curb Your Enthusiasm" and the Mueller Report -- a play to raise funds for former Senator Barbara Boxer's left-leaning political action committee. ---------- The Issue Is: with Elex Michaelson is California's only statewide political show, broadcast from FOX 11 Studios in Los Angeles. Many of those stranded are poor people who have bedridden family, no car, or no money to leave. Meanwhile, coal ash ponds are overflowing into neighborhoods and there’s been flooding around the animal excrement disposal ponds known as CAFOs as well. Monday’s regular segment Technology Rules with Chris Garaffa is a weekly guide on how monopoly corporations and the national surveillance state are threatening cherished freedoms, civil rights and civil liberties. Web developer and technologist Chris Garaffa joins the show. In July, California Professor Christine Blasey Ford confidentially accused Supreme Court nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault via the Washington Post tip line and in a letter to her congressperson. After delays and a series of leaks, the story came out without a name or many details, and Ford decided to speak out despite the consequences that victims of assault often suffer by talking about it publicly. What does this tell us about prep school culture, assault in the highest echelons of power, and whether Kavanaugh’s nomination will be blocked? Brian and John speak with Heidi Boghosian, the executive director of the A. J. Muste Memorial Institute and the former executive director of the National Lawyers Guild. President Trump last week signed an executive order that would allow the intelligence community to determine whether or not there was foreign interference in a US election, and it sets out punishments for that interference. But what does “interference” mean? And there is nothing to indicate that the US will stop interfering in the elections of other countries. Dan Kovalik, a human rights and labor lawyer who is the author of “The Plot to attack Iran,” joins the show. A Democratic political action committee in California is targeting vulnerable Republican Rep. Dana Rohrabacher with a parody ad saying that the 15-term incumbent is a Russian hero and is endorsed by Russian president Vladimir Putin. The ad will run in both English and Russian. Rohrabacher and Democratic businessman Harley Rouda are tied at 45 percent in the latest polls.
