Robert Day joined the U.S. Marine Corps just a few months after the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Soon he was being transformed into a Marine at Parris Island, and, less than three years later, he would be part of some of the most intense combat of the Iraq War during the Second Battle of Fallujah in November and December 2004. He served as a machine gunner with the 1st Battlion/8th Marines. In this edition of "Veterans Chronicles," Sgt. Day takes on a quiet first deployment to Iraq, into the much more intense training for the second tour in Iraq, and into the gritty details of the urban combat in Fallujah when his platoon returned to the war.Day explains the tactical approach in Fallujah, what it was like firing at the enemy while being fired upon, his role during the house-to-house combat throughout Fallujah, the mindset needed for a relentlessly intense battle that raged for weeks, and how his platoon dealt with the loss of one of its most beloved members. It's a fascinating, detailed, and candid account of some of the toughest fighting of the Iraq War.

Mike Ergo originally joined the U.S. Marine Corps to play his saxophone in the Marine Corps band. But a short time after joining the Corps in 2001, Ergo changed his mind and asked to be transferred to the infantry. Soon, the U.S. was at war in both Afghanistan and Iraq. After an uneventful first deployment to Iraq, Ergo returned in the summer of 2004 with A Company, 1st Battalion, 8th Marines. A few months later, they were engaged in the vicious Second Battle of Fallujah in November and December of 2004.In this edition of "Veterans Chronicles," Ergo describes preparing to fight in Iraq, learning his company would be part of the fight for Fallujah, and what it's like to get the signal that you'e headed into battle.Ergo also tells us about the intial successes of the Marines and how the insurgent resistance quickly fell into place. He also gives us great detail about the house-to-house fighting that characterized so much of the fighting in Fallujah. He also shares the pain of losing close friends at different points in the battle and how resigning himself to the belief that he would be killed was actually freeing for him. Finally, Ergo details how the fighting in Iraq stayed with him for years after the war, how he moved on, and how he is now helping other veterans.
Aaron Cunningham started thinking seriously about military service after watching Operation Desert Storm unfold in 1991, the year he graduated from high school. He began college without being sure of military service. Now, Col. Cunningham is retired after 29 years of service. But the service that he is most proud of is serving as commander of Alpha Company, 1st Battalion, 8th Marines, which included the Second Battle of Fallujah in November and December 2004.In this edition of "Veterans Chronicles," Col. Cunningham explains the various reasons he chose the Marines, how 9/11 changed the trajectory of his service, and how he trained Alpha Company for combat in Iraq.He explains his responsibility for nearly 200 Marines and what was going through his mind on the eve of the battle. Then, Cunningham walks us through Alpha Company's entrance into the battle, the initial successes, and the enemy resistance which quickly emerged. He also describes the house-to-house fighting, how he decentralized decision-making to platoon, squad, and team leaders, and his calmness under fire. He also describes the devastating losses of Lt. Dan Malcom and Lance Corporal Bradley Faircloth over the course of the battle.Don't miss this powerful story of service as we approach the 20th anniversary of the fight for Fallujah.

Originally from the US, Dani & Evan Benton have bought properties and land to live and run a guest house and to do natural farming in rural Japan. The Bentons have been so generous in sharing their knowledge on YouTube by documenting and sharing a variety of useful information about how to get a Japan business and startup visa, buy a house, renovate old houses, get rid of junk, reuse things, and repair and reuse as well as honor the memory of the original owners as much as possible.Dani and Evan are doing a great service to their local community as well as all of their interested fans around the world with their informative posts and videos. Apparently they decided to settle in the area of OMISHIMA because it is a beautiful area that has a lot of AKIYA abandoned properties. They now run a guesthouse on AirBnb and aim is to run a farm stand to sell their fresh farm produce and honey. There will be a lot of great insights in this talk for anyone interested in Japan, Japanese culture, life in rural Japan, starting a business, natural farming, and renovating old houses in Japan. Sharing the gospel advances the kingdom of Jesus against the kingdom of darkness.
Jesus teaches his disciples to share the gospel through the practice of regular, ordinary hospitality.
Sharing the gospel is a priority to followers of Jesus because it is a priority to Jesus.
Luke 10:38-42 38 As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. 39 She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet listening to what he said. 40 But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don't you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!” 41 “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, 42 but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her. (NIV 84) DISCUSSION QUESTIONS Read Luke 7:19; Jesus saw the importance of eating with others, especially non believers, what has changed for our society that we no longer make that a priority? Recall a time where a meal had more meaning than just food, who did you share it with, and why was it significant? Do you see your table as a place for evangelism, why or why not? How many meals a week do you spend alone or distracted? What are some obstacles in your life that are keeping you from making the most of your meals? How can you overcome them?
An early Christmas gift for the BFWWP community--the battle of Fismes in summer 1918. This was a Patreon release, so you'll hear the old scores used in the episode. Following the German Friedensturm offensive in July 1918, the Allies struck back with a counteroffensive that shifted the momentum of the war in the Allies' favor. Through the rest of July the Germans retreated from their Marne salient, steadily pursued by the French and American forces. When the Germans retreated behind the River Vesle, American troops encountered obstacles not common to the Great War battlefield: the town of Fismes and its sister village of Fismette. Both would have to be cleared of German troops for the advance to continue. August 1918 saw weeks of staggering violence as American Doughboys and German Frontkaempfer fought tooth and nail for the ruins of these towns. Have something you want to throw on the savage scale? Reach out to us like this listener did! "Hey guys! I'm hoping you and your listeners will be able to convince my husband that what he's got planned for trick-or-treating tonight is totally savage. A couple of weeks ago he volunteered to take our kids out so that I could stay home and hand out candy to everyone who shows up at our house. What he didn't tell me until recently, was that he plans on driving the kids around the neighborhood. I'd like to preface this by saying that he is totally capable of walking around the neighborhood with our kids, so this is out of pure laziness. Also, isn't the weather supposed to be pretty decent? Do you guys think he's being sensible or just a lazy savage?"

April 26, 1945. Berlin is almost totally surrounded. The Soviets are pouring into the city. Small squads of German soldiers and Hitler Youth, often operating in groups of two or four, vainly attempt to stem the Russian tide. They fail, but they kill many in their downfall. This is the story. This episode is part… Continue reading House to House: Street Fighting in the Battle of Berlin /// 68

This message covers Paul's third missionary journey and examines the model of gospel ministry that Paul followed.
Larry Kreider describes the inspiration and story behind his first book, House to House. Listen as he and Josh Good discuss the power of house-to-house ministry, mistakes to avoid, the meaning of co-equal plurality, how the DOVE family greatly benefited from having spiritual parents, and how we are all called to be ministers. 4 Areas of Commonality: Vision Values Methodology God-given Relationship Quotable Quotes: "The genesis of all that was from a word from God." "It was just Jesus and a group of us praying and loving Jesus." "Every believer is a minister." "We are the Church." "I've never done anything without a team." Highlights: Acts 20:20 Ephesians 4:12 Small group leaders are the extension of the eldership leadership of a church. What does an Army squad leader do in a battlefield situation when his platoon encounters three floors of insurgents and is pinned with rooftop snipers firing away? If you're Davis Bellavia, you lead your team into action. David single-handedly saved his entire squad, risking his own life to allow his fellow soldiers to break contact and reorganize when trapped by overwhelming insurgent fire. He then voluntarily entered and cleared an insurgent strong point, killing four and seriously wounding another. His actions stand as a testament to those who put everything on the line as they do the grim work required to keep each other safe and alive on the battlefield. David Bellavia is the only living recipient of the Medal of Honor for his actions during the Second Battle of Fallujah, Iraq. Bellavia has also received the Bronze Star Medal, two Army Commendation Medals, two Army Achievement Medals and the New York State Conspicuous Service Cross. In this episode you will hear: We not only have to live for ourselves and our families, but we have to remind people who our lost soldiers are, because they didn't drop dead of a heart attack, or were killed by some misfortune or bad luck; they voluntarily chose to stand up when the bullets were coming and they voluntarily said “I'll do this for you”. You're not a man until you acknowledge that you don't have a father. Peer pressure makes you smoke cigarettes when you're 11. Peer pressure ca also make you charge a machine gun nest at Normandy beach. It all depends who your peers are. When the voices in your head say quit, don't. You really can't appreciate life until you've gone through combat. There's no education like the United States military. Never bring a hairdryer to basic training. You can't mourn on the battlefield. In the case of fallen soldiers, we should exchange the word “memorialize” for the word “celebrate”. America is still the shining city on the hill.
