Brian explained the reason why the Steelers are bringing Michael Penix in for a pre-draft visit. Chris asked Brian if the Steelers will seriously consider WR at 20th overall. Are the Steelers pigeonholing themselves at center? Brian noted the Chiefs signing a rugby player and if the Steelers should try doing something similar. PM Team Clearing House.

Pittsburgh Pirates vs. New York Mets MLB Pick Prediction 9/15/2022 by Tony T. Pirates at Mets—JT Brubaker to start for Pittsburgh. Brubaker in 26 starts has an ERA 4.36 with WHIP 1.42. The righthander a strikeout rate of 22.8% with 8.3% walks. Ground balls 44.8% with 1.04 home runs per nine innings. Carlos Carrasco the starter for NYM.
JT Brubaker took the mound today in a semi-effective outing. He wasn't showing great command but did enough to keep the Pirates in the game. Unfortunately, it was Wil Crowe with the lead who gave up 3 runs in the 9th inning resulting in a Pirates loss.Continuing his torrid hot streak is Oneil Cruz who went 2-for-4 with a home run and walk. It wasn't and hasn't been just Oneil who has been playing well recently either. Jim and Tyler discuss the rookies Rodolfo Castro and Cal Mitchell who have each played much better during their latest returns to the majors.
It was another solid outing by JT Brubaker that was marred by bad defense. JT only lasted 5.1 innings and allowed 3 runs (2 earned) but it was with the help of two bad defensive plays on Oneil Cruz and one error on Rodolfo Castro. What's frustrating about these errors is the fact that these players are way too athletic and they could easily be cleaned up by good coaching.Though Chase De Jong did come in to clean up JT's 6th inning, it was the next inning that stirred much controversy. With Chase only throwing 13 pitches, Shelton decided to send Duane Underwood Jr., in the 7th after throwing 37 last night. Was this the correct move? DiNardo discusses with the current bullpen construction, a chance to actually win today, and the upcoming Mets series, why he was more than ok with it.The Pirates also gave a shimmer of hope at the end of this game, but as the 2022 Pirates typically do, with 0 outs and two men on they found a way to not score any runs. Oh, and Oneil Cruz did hit a 116 mph laser into the bullpen today.

Tonight was one to those games where the boxscore doesn't tell the whole story. JT Brubaker lasted 6.1 innings and gave up 6 earned, but everything to the 5th inning was excellent. His slider was extremely effective and he was shutting down a top lineup in the Braves. However, in the 5th inning he gave up 6 straight hits while 5 of them were hit with an exit velocity over 100mph. At the end of the day, it ends up being a start JT wishes went differently. As the story goes, the offense was once again anemic. Michael Chavis' solo shot off Max Fried was the only run as well as a third of the Pirates total hits. Fried shut down this offense quickly and efficiently tonight. Which, again, leads to ask where players like Travis Swaggerty are?
Kev and Chris recap Monday night's pitchers duel at PNC Park, Jake Odorizzi's performance, another clutch moment from Money Mike and more ahead of game two tonight with Max Fried on the mound!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Tonight, the Pirates get back into the victory column with the help of Bryan Reynolds two home runs. What made his first homer so special was that it happened to be the 3,000th home run hit in PNC Park. The rest of the offense came alive tonight as well with a total of 10 hits leading to an 8-2 victory.JT Brubaker came out early looking really strong and provided 7 scoreless while allowing just 2 baserunners. Tyler and Jim discuss JT a little deeper tonight as he has had such a stronger season this year opposed to last while approaching a new career high in innings.
Today was the second game in a row where JT Brubaker gave up a lot of his but was fortunate enough to escape with limited damage. Giving up just 3 earned on 8 hits and 2 walks in 4 innings pitched, somehow the Pirates were able to still stay in this game. With his 2-game stretch of bad starts has our thoughts on Brubs' wavered? It seems the only offense that comes consistently from this team is from Bryan Reynolds and Oneil Cruz and tonight Cruz went deep for his 3rd home run in a week. Has Cruz been performing better? Has his struggles changed? What do the Pirates need to do heading into 2023 to protect Cruz going forward? We discuss these as well.
You just knew it wasn't going to be a good day when Ke'Bryan Hayes was given the late scratch due to his knee. JT Brubaker made today's start and the Phillies got to him early and often. Giving up a total of 12 hits in 4.1 innings pitched was not ideal, though we discuss how today's game still leaves un encouraged. However, we have much different thoughts on Dillon Peters who gave up his 9th run in his last 12 innings pitched. The offense once again came today from Kevin Newman. With his 3-hit performance he is now batting .306 since his IL return. This leads us to debate that upcoming trade deadline debate some more. Let's not also forget how good Cal Mitchell, who had two more hits today, has been since his return to the majors. We cannot complete a recent show without talking about this lineup and the self imposed futility that comes with it. Just how bad has Josh VanMeter been in July? That and more we talk in today's Postgame Show.
It's been a really good string of starts for JT Brubaker heading into tonight's game, but he wasn't as sharp and effective this time around. JT gave up a good amount of hard contact, including his first home run allowed since June 16, though thanks to the Cubs base running blunders he did only give up 2 earned. The lack of offense was not surprising as the lineup saw not only Yoshi Tsutsugo and Josh VanMeter batting ahead of Oneil Cruz yet again, but also Josh VanMeter batting leadoff. Tonight seems to be the final straw that set DiNardo over his boiling point on the season and he lets out an early show vent based on these questionable decisions.Thankfully, we were able to see Oneil Cruz and Ke'Bryan Hayes each have a 2-hit performance as well as Ben Gamel showcasing everything that he can do, as he apparently seems to in Wrigley Field. We also point out something that we might want to keep an eye on with Oneil Cruz's approach.
There's been no bounceback on the roster quite like JT Brubaker's. What more can be said about JT Brubaker since incorporating his 2-seamer? He has quite possibly one of his best starts going 7 scoreless innings with 9 punch outs and just 5 baserunners. He didn't have much offense behind him as Ben Gamel's RBI single was the lone run JT was able to get while on the mound. However, things started to get crazy in the 9th and then extra's with the Mickey Mouse rules. Michael Chavis ties it up in the 9th to get the game into extra's. Then the wheels fell off. Daniel Vogelbach and Ke'Bryan Hayes each had an RBI to bring the Pirates lead at 4-2. David Bednar entered the game to close things down, however he wasn't missing bats and ultimately gave up the lead as well as the game.
With runner on the corners, Daniel Vogelback comes through with a big hit that scored Diego Castillo but as we all saw, Mike Rabelo sent Kevin Newman dead to rights which ended the game. If this alone wasn't enough, the buildup of having to see players like Yoshi Tsutsugo, Josh VanMeter, and Kevin Newman has really frustrated Tyler and he let's it all vent.JT Brubaker danced through raindrops tonight and luckily allowed just 3 earned runs in 5 innings today. Manny Banuelo and Yerry De Los Santos did enough to keep the team in the game, but as we now know it just wasn't enough.

JT Brubaker went 7 innings of 3-run baseball vs the reigning World Series Champs. Since virtually eliminating the 4-seamer, is JT Brubaker now part of this team's future rotation? That is part of what we discuss on tonight's NS9 Postgame Show for Pittsburgh Baseball Now.Along with the team's improved pitching of late, Jack Suwinski has been turning heads with his improved offense. Tonight's home run gave him the NL Rookie lead and his 3rd in 5 games. How are we now feeling about Adam Frazier trade?

Let's all take a look at our watches once again as injuries plague this major league club and Ben Cherington glosses over the performing prospects and instead turns to either lesser players or failed major leaguers. Anyway, let's start off by keeping this positive as we discuss Ke'Bryan Hayes looking more like his rookie season self, Roansy Contreras looking like a very capable pitcher, and what changes are bringing success to JT Brubaker.
