Born in Brooklyn and raised in Massapequa, New York, Phantom grew up listening to his parents' jazz records and began playing drums by the age of ten. He took lessons with Mousie Alexander, who played with Benny Goodman, studying jazz and working through books by Jim Chapin and Ted Reed. By the late 1970s, he was playing in bands with his childhood friend, bassist Lee Rocker. They soon joined forces with guitarist Brian Setzer to form Stray Cats.[ When performing with Stray Cats, Phantom did not sit behind a standard drum kit like most drummers, but instead opted to play in a standing position with a minimalist set-up of bass drum, snare drum, hi-hat, and crash cymbal. During downtime from Stray Cats, Phantom played in swing, rockabilly, and jump blues combo The Swing Cats with Rocker and ex-Polecats guitarist Danny B. Harvey,[6] as well as rockabilly and glam rock project Phantom, Rocker & Slick with Rocker and guitarist Earl Slick. In 1985, he appeared with Carl Perkins and a host of other musicians including Eric Clapton, George Harrison, Ringo Starr, Dave Edmunds and Rosanne Cash for Blue Suede Shoes: A Rockabilly Session in London, England. Phantom also played with Jerry Lee Lewis. He later formed Col. Parker with former Guns N' Roses guitarist Gilby Clarke, releasing the album Rock n Roll Music in 2001.[ Most recently, he has been involved in the eponymous roots-rock band Slim Jim's Phantom Trio; rock-and-roll supergroup Dead Men Walking with Kirk Brandon and Mike Peters, and Captain Sensible;[ and rockabilly supergroup The Head Cat with Danny B. Harvey and the late Motörhead vocalist and bassist Lemmy. He also hosts the Rockabilly Raveup show on Little Steven's Underground Garage. In March 2023, Barnes announced the supergroup The Barnestormers, featuring Barnes, Cheney, Phantom with Jools Holland and Kevin Shirley. A self-titled album was released on 26 May 2023. The 2nd series of the "Hornby: A Model World" comprises of 11 new 1 hour episodes going behind the scenes at Hornby, Britain's best loved model making company, to reveal 'how they do it': How they go about shrinking mighty trains, planes & automobiles to create a new generation of miniature masterpieces in the worlds of Airfix, Corgi , Scalextric & Hornby. Montana Hoerem is a working writer, who has now enjoyed a good 8 years with the 100 year old Hornby group, rising to a leadership role as Head of Brand. Her enthusiasm is infectious. Her knowledge is impressive. Her optimism is persuasive. Her smiling voice is a constant tonic! And she has her own family back story, too. Her mother was born in Montana, hence her name. Her father returned to Australia before Montana was born. Don't worry - Montana has not just survived, she has thrived. She has an MA in Creative Writing and she is totally committed to the opportunity of lifelong learning. Was it not Albert Einstein who suggested that the two essential elements for a great life are love and work? Montana loves her work, loves her family and her colleagues. She loves words. She loves running. She loves ideas. She also loves cake! All kinds of cake! Montana is heard here promoting a new 11 episode series on TV that takes the viewer behind the scenes at the Hornby headquarters in Margate and introduces some of the company's most celebrated customers. including Pete Waterman and Jules Holland. How delighted the original founder, Frank Hornby, would be to see how his original high quality model railway idea has grown broader and better than he could have possibly imagined. Now it is even trending on TikTok! It is becoming much more of a family hobby, involving imaginative layout, scenery and realism, rather than a predominantly solitary activity. 100 years young, Hornby Is offering 21st century miniature enthusiasts a brilliant opportunity to relax with a rewarding nostalgic escape into a private world, accompanied by other family memTune in next week for more stories of 'Distinction & Genius' from The Good Listening To Show 'Clearing'. Intro: I Want You - Scarfo// Hamster Principalities, the first (and hopefully last) Beibernews of 2014, Rob Ford finds Jesus, 2014 predictions, Kevin Smith the 90s stoner Lich, stop trying to pay your rent by playing video games, accidental real talk, G knows exactly the right amount about computers (to break them), Jules Holland is still going and stil weird, telling the kids to stay away from New Years Eve, Adults talking about Lego, Simon knows way too much about Star Wars and no one cares, Tuna Beats by Dr Dre, Simon gets a sudden attack of the feels and the police in New Jersey rack up a 3x combo bonus on DUIs.// Outro: Lippy Kids - Elbow
Don looked at the work of an artiste called Kanye West who is a famous rapper …he was on Jules Holland’s programme and kicked off because he had requested everything in his dressing room to be white…including the flowers…and he wanted the set re-doing in white…and…wait for it…he wanted the carpet in his dressing room IRONING because it was Kanye was taking the mickey but I know what I would have told him…..these “stars” have got a problem once they start believing their own bull***. Don told me he'd worked with and known about divas both male and female….they need a reality check. The news has been full of the muslim girl who wouldn’t remove her veil during a court hearing….Don always respects other peoples beliefs and religions but can’t see what the problem is…you can’t wear a crash helmet or a hoodie…or indeed smoke in court…it’s the law of the land…where’s the problem? Prince William has left the forces to do Royal things and his two guard dogs have been put down because their “career” is over…this has caused an outcry from the “know very little” brigade…The fact is the dogs are trained protectors…that’s what they do…one false move and you’re a gonner. It was only a few months back everyone was up in arms about a dog killing a child….I like dogs but you have to be realistic. The problem of drunks wandering the street has reared it’s ugly head…The police are moaning because it’s taking up their time. They reckon it’s costing 11 BILLION to sort this out….They are talking about “drunk tanks” to throw these hooligans into and charging them £400 to get out next day (some hope)…however it would cost £400 to keep them there…brilliant eh?...close the pubs at half ten I say…it was good enough for us !!! Finally…this is classic…an armed bobby was caught in an uncompromising position with a lady….when he was on duty….he was sacked but re-instated because he said his gun was still available for use…namely around his ankles…he also said he was on his lunch break and his activity was no different than having a cup of tea…..now whoever was his solicitor needs a knighthood…that guy is GOOD!!! Another point of view is that this policeman has clearly illustrated why Britain is in a mess. He has acted in a way that brings the police into disrepute then the lawyers have got him off. This brings both the judge, and the legal system into disrepute for me.
