Mindset Matters. In this week's Team Never Quit Podcast, we are honored to host a remarkable individual who has not only mastered the art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu but has also conquered the world's highest peak – Mount Everest. Join us as Marcus and Melanie delve into the incredible journey of Cesalina Gracie. Hailing from a family that pioneered and revolutionized this martial art, Cesalina has carried the torch forward, dedicating her life to mastering the intricacies of Jiu-Jitsu. Cesalina shares insights into the mental and physical preparation required for both the Jiu-Jitsu arena and the formidable slopes of Everest. How do the principles of discipline, resilience, and focus intertwine between the mats and the mountains? Listen in and be inspired by this incredible woman of purpose and power. Whether you're a Jiu-Jitsu enthusiast, an aspiring mountaineer, or someone navigating life's challenges, Cesalina's journey offers invaluable insights that transcend boundaries. In this episode you will hear: • Back in the day, there were eighteen martial arts, different clans that had different practices in Japan, and they all ended with “Jitsu.” (7:08) • There are no bad kids. There's bad environments for kids. (10:41) • [Jiu Jitsu] is an equalizer of emotions for kids. Jiu Jitsu is gonna honor your personality. (11:04) • Nobody needs to tell us where you're gonna find the environment, because when you walk in, the systems that are in place teach you before you hear a word from your coach. (12:54) • [My grandfather] saw immediately what the power of that art was and the incredible responsibility that came with it. (13:45) • This [Jiu Jitsu] is a tool for self-development. I'm not here to learn how to fight. I'm here to feel powerful and feel capable without having to look powerful and look capable. (14:00) • That's the beautiful thing about Jiu Jitsu, is that it lives on the inside. (14:21) • [My family] proved the efficiency of Jiu Jitsu to the rest of the world. (20:43) • If the whole world learns these tools, we're gonna live in a society that is more peaceful, that is more respectful, because when you have human beings that are self-confident and compassionate, you start changing the way we interact with each other, and we start changing the way we live our lives. (21:19) • As a grown up, I understand the difference between winners and champions. (30:06) • The most important thing about Jiu Jitsu that it builds and internal constitution that is so strong that you can deal with anything in life. (38:26) • The greatest value of Jiu Jitsu is applied outside of the mat. (42:29) • Ultimately, the greatest skill you can have is awareness. (45:54) • We have to be brutally honest with ourselves as to where we're standing in life. (55:51) • What's actually gonna take you to the top are the mindsets that you've created in your journey in Jiu Jitsu. (61:20) • [While climbing Mount Everest] the one question that I did not ask myself was “should I go back to Everest Base Camp?” (63:35) • Another part that was really hard [while climbing Mount Everest] was when I saw dead bodies in the mountain for the first time. (63:47) • I hope everyone gets to experience something in their lives that they have a hard time describing. (72:22) • When I got back to base camp, I immediately called my family, because I didn't tell anybody I was climbing Mount Everest. (82:21) • Champions are still champions even when they lose. (87:27) • When you have confidence in yourself, you solve so many problems. Didya hear about the woman in West Virginia who framed the Pittsburgh Steelers tattoo she had taken off her dead husband's arm? Now that's what I call having some skin in the game. Pelts on the wall. Yes, as the Lincoln-driving philosopher Matthew McConaughey taught us, Time is a flat circle. You know what's also a circle? A ring. Coaches are fond of saying “No one can ever take away that ring.” But of course, those rings can and have been taken, sold, or lost. Still, the spirit of the point stands: Time waits for no man, but our deeds are etched into history. How we stack up that particular moment in time - versus all the moments in time - is where things get murky and therefore make for enjoyable debate fodder with a beer in your hand. That's why in this episode of Football America! we dive into the teams that will miss the playoffs with DLS Family Tony Calatayud and the Super Fuentes Brothers, and then climb Mt. Lombardi with the pride of Autzen Stadium, former Duck and NFL lineman Geoff Schwartz. Objective Bradley is back with the news, too! Jane Kanizay is an adventurer, educator, activist, speaker, artist and mother of four who on 14 May 2022 successfully climbed Mt. Everest with her 19-year-old daughter. Jane enjoys sharing the highs and lows of her Everest experience and the journey of resilience required to take on such an immense challenge as a survivor. Jane climbed with the message of @teachusconsent to campaign for holistic consent education in school education curriculum and to advocate for the prevention of violence against women. To have a message to take to the summit provided additional strength on the days Jane had reached her physical or emotional limits. High altitude mountaineering is one of the deadliest sports in the world. Jane successfully summited mountains above 6000m plus an 8000m summit of Cho Oyu, Tibet, to prepare her for the extreme environment of Everest, considered to be in the ‘death zone' above 8000m where oxygen content is only 34% compared with sea level. Listening to Jane on the Tough Girl Podcast offers a rare insight into the mental and physical fortitude it takes to summit Everest, but also the deeper purpose behind her journey.  Through her incredible story, Jane not only inspires adventurers but also advocates for change, sharing how carrying a message of consent and empowerment gave her the strength to push through her limits.  Her story will resonate with anyone looking to overcome challenges, build resilience, and find purpose in their own lives.   Don't miss out on the latest episodes of the Tough Girl Podcast, released every Tuesday at 7am UK time! Join Dr. Jay and Brad as they interview the founder of Neufit and author of The Neufit Method, Garrett Salpeter. In 2007, Garrett Salpeter, who was studying physics and engineering and playing college hockey, suffered a wrist injury that necessitated surgery. Before undergoing surgical intervention, a chiropractic neurologist introduced him to functional neurology and early forms of DC devices as an alternative treatment. Salpeter used himself as a test subject, and remarkably, within just three weeks, he achieved complete recovery, sidestepping the need for surgery and returning to hockey. This sparked his interest in the nervous system and how it could be used to help people heal. He even started treating some of his hockey teammates in his dorm room with DC devices, noticing better results compared to AC devices and traditional therapy. To further his knowledge, Salpeter dedicated himself to self-study and took graduate level neuroscience classes. In 2009, he opened his first clinic in a small room within a chiropractor's office. As he gained more experience, he became convinced that he could create a more effective device to help people recover. In 2015, he started developing the Neubie® device, and NeuFit was eventually launched in 2017. Since then, the company has experienced significant growth and has helped thousands of people unlock their healing potential and achieve significant results. NeuFit provides doctors, therapists, and other professionals with leading-edge technology, research-backed methods, and unparalleled clinical support to supercharge their practices and help them get transformational outcomes with their patients. Born in Brooklyn and raised in Massapequa, New York, Phantom grew up listening to his parents' jazz records and began playing drums by the age of ten. He took lessons with Mousie Alexander, who played with Benny Goodman, studying jazz and working through books by Jim Chapin and Ted Reed. By the late 1970s, he was playing in bands with his childhood friend, bassist Lee Rocker. During downtime from Stray Cats, Phantom played in swing, rockabilly, and jump blues combo The Swing Cats with Rocker and ex-Polecats guitarist Danny B. The United States only has about 1 million homes for sales nationwide. While that sounds like a lot of homes, it's actually 40% less than the average number of homes you usually get to pick from. That even includes the crash around the pandemic! So, fewer options means for more competition, which means first-time home buyers are going to have a tough time. Today, David talks about some tips to help make the process easier as well as dispel some misconceptions about the market floating around. Here are some power takeaways from today's conversation: Episode Highlights: [04:12] Credit Score Lore First misconception is that you can't buy a home if you have a bad credit score. Well, that's simply not true. Even if you have a 580 score, you can still buy a home. But here's the real question you should be asking: should you buy a home with that score? So, yes, you can buy a home with a low credit score. But you can save a lot more money in the long run if you take some time to build it up. That's because if you have a better score, you can buy way more home for way less money. Here's another big misconception: Many people believe that talking to a unicorn team can hurt your credit score because they have to pull it in the process. However, talking to a team is VITAL in making the process go smoother and you could miss out on so much more money by avoiding this step. [15:27] Overcoming Mortgage Rate Challenges Now, there are rising interest rates and that's no surprise. But, it doesn't mean it's any less possible to buy a home. Yeah, it makes it a little more challenging, but that's okay because there are so many ways to help get around that. Listen to any of David's other episodes where he talks to other How to Buy a Homies about all the creative ways they dealt with this. Of course, the best way to start on that process is by consulting a unicorn team! [18:30] Savings, Debt, Credit Score After getting some help, which is the first most important step, there are three other important steps that will make your home-buying process more effective. And those include saving money for a down payment, paying off debt, and improving your credit score. We already talked about your credit score, but we can't ignore savings and debt. These are two things you can do simultaneously while also working on your credit score. Getting some professional help to develop and savings/debt plan can help you buy a home much sooner than someone doing it on their own.
