Before she was Femanyst, Akua Grant was called The Lady Blacktronika, also known as the First Lady Of Beatdown. Beatdown was a type of of ultra-deep house characterized by creamy chords, soulful melodies and, in Grant's case, honeyed vocals. She ran an integral label called Sound Black Recordings, home to some of her best tracks. But around 2017, she turned towards what was essentially the polar opposite: industrial-tinged super hard techno, full of distortion and anger. This is where we find Grant now, as Femanyst, with a mix that shows off heavy-duty techno that still has a heart. She started her own new label, called Dark Carousel, and has released on Paula Temple's Noise Manifesto. She manages to take some of the hardest techno around and imbue it with her signature melodic style. This is probably one of the toughest RA Podcasts yet, but it's also full of feeling, dynamism and tension. It's possibly to hear eclectic materials of Chicago House, Garage House, Deep Tech House in his productions and DJ sets. He worked with labels like Kolour, Skylax, Simple as That, Apparel Music, Sub_Urban, Closer to Truth, Staybad, Whoyostro and many more for physical and digital releases. He has +150 singles and two albums in his discography(2022). He has been in many significant productions such as "Skylax House Explotion". It was a big VA project consisting four vinyls and a mixed cd by DJ Sprinkles and Hardrock Striker from France based, Skylax Records. He took a part with the names like Jason Groove, Octo Octa, Fuckthegovernment.LTD, Lady Blacktronika and many more in this project. Most of his vinyl releases has been sold out in a short time. 'The Bosphorus EP' which is released from UK based Polluted LTD is one of the production that brought chart success to him. Another one is a collaboration single with Sarp Yilmaz. 'The Big Idea EP' is stayed two weeks at Top50 on decks.de. He has many productions that brought chart success, dj and media supports. 'Right or Wrong EP' which is released on San Diego based house music label Staybad, was the latest production that rised Top10 at Traxsource Garage House(2022). He has been guest with DJ sets to radios like Kiss FM, Dinamo FM, Proton Radio. He is also making his own weekly radio show called 'Stereo Flavas' on Istanbul based radio station, Radio Glamorize. Frustrated with "the boys not letting [her] play with their toys" she began trying her hand at house music and techno production in 2006, producing Beatdown tracks inspired by such Detroit greats as Theo Parrish, Moodymann, and Norma Jean Bell.In early '07 Mike Huckaby discovered her on Myspace. He introduced her to a global audience on a Detroit radio broadcast. She released her first single shortly there after on Deep Explorer in September of '07.She infuses experiences from her past in gritty street life while bringing a woman's sensitivity and emotion to the Beatdown genre and Chicago influenced House music.
