From the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society, Seth Pearsoll, VP and Creative Director of the Philadelphia Flower Show, discussed the 2025 edition, Gardens of Tomorrow and Entrance Garden, “Futura Florentia.” He explains Gardens of Tomorrow will showcase the power of plants, sustainability, and innovation. We talked about PHS, founded in 1827, to advance the health and well-being of the Greater Philadelphia region. Started in 1829 the Flower Show showcases diverse and sustainable plant varieties and garden and design concepts across acres of garden displays as well as world-renowned competitions in horticulture and artistic floral arranging, gardening presentations and demonstrations, and special events. As a fundraiser, the Flower Show supports PHS programming that creates healthier living environments, increases access to fresh food and provides jobs and work programs for youth and the formerly incarcerated. PHS works in over 250 neighborhoods in a network of public gardens and landscapes with year-round programming that includes the Tree Tenders, putting trees to cool and beautify neighborhoods, planting public gardens in vacant lots and delivering horticulture programs to schools. Now in its 196th year, The PHS Philadelphia Flower Show is the premiere horticultural event of its kind in the United States and one of the world’s most recognized, drawing exhibitors and visitors from around the globe and pumping over 65 million into the city economy. In addition to the professional exhibitors, local high school and college horticulturists from Lankenau High School Mercer County Community College, The Lakeside School, Temple University and Delaware Valley University will offer future-focused environmental and sustainability displays. For the first time, the Flower Show will feature a student-created floral exhibition by Bucks County Community College’s Floral Design Program. The educational lecture series, Know to Grow, returns with industry experts leading presentations on topics including garden design, vegetable gardening, native plants, container gardening, shade gardening and houseplants. Kids Cocoon will feature a Flower Show-themed version of TFI's Creation Station, where children can create floral-inspired masterpieces using LEGO® bricks. At Bloom Bar and pop-up Bloom Bar carts you can purchase pre-assembled, fresh floral crowns in the heart of the Show floor. At Family Frolic Sunday, March 2 there will be hands-on activities and entertainment for families with programming and activities in partnership with museums, nonprofits, and universities; Blossom and Breathe on Friday, March 7 with wellness vendors and yoga in a botanical bazaar, and the popular Flowers After Hours after-hours dance party Saturday, March 8! They invite you to dress in your boldest, most eccentric best, and enjoy alien encounter photo ops, galaxy-inspired cocktails, and a space fashion show. Lady B is the founder of The National Foundation for Retired Service Animals (NFRSA).Lady B discusses why she launched this charity to help all service dogs and horses in their retirement. Raising funds so that the charity can help with vet bills, and make their golden years really golden after serving the public so bravely.Having celebrated the charity's first birthday a few months ago, Lady Bathurst will be departing on 13th September for 3 weeks - cycling from Lands End to John O'Groats.  Accompanied along the way by a number of well known celebrities including the Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York who is Patron of the charity.Other famous names including Ben Miller,  Minnie Driver, Dr Dawn Harper, David Gower, Nick Knowles, Lisa Maxwell and many other will be.joining Lady B along the way. We chat about the grueling training program, the route and why she is determined to hit the demanding mileages everyday! We discuss other ways of fundraising including the charity's annual calendar and simple ways to raise much needed funds. Many people, especially in the time before the internet, depended on the radio to hear new music, or any music for that matter, for the most part. For me, growing up on military bases, specifically in Germany most of my childhood, radio wasn't an option unless I wanted to hear Top 40. Once I heard Hip Hop, and my vow to "find everything that sounds like this", I heavily relied on trading and dubbing tapes with fellow music lovers and enthusiasts, and the most prized possessions of the 80s...tapes of New York Radio. There's a list of amazing, impacting, pioneering, and influential shows/DJs that come to mind, such as; Mr. Magic, Marley, Zulu Beats with Afrika Islam, The World Famous Supreme Team Show, Kool DJ Red Alert, Chuck Chillout, Awesome Two, Vandy C and Bill Blast, Awesome 2, and so on. This episode details those days, the passion and struggle to track down the latest tapes, and meeting all sorts of challenges along the way. And, eventually focuses on the radio station tapes that I most often got my hands on; WBLS and 98.7 Kiss FM, two rival New York stations. I also touch on a few other key radio shows that I was able to get tapes of or hear live, in the 80s, including Lady B and Mimi Brown in Philly, Electrifying Mojo, The Wizard a.k.a Jeff Mills, WKKC in Galesburg, and WNUR in Chicago. Not sure we've ever had a podcast episode featuring such an array of different subjects. The diverse menu of colourful conversation is very much down to our brilliant guest Emma Banks, who owns the magnificent Lady Bowthorpe. There is loads about Lady B, of course. But there's also stories that start off, ‘I remember I was in Bogota with Florence and The Machine' – as you do. For Emma is a music agent with a client roster of many big-name stars. So there's a fascinating insight into her world – and somehow there's even chat about her beloved Luton Town FC. Fellowes and Scott have been enjoying success on the track, which makes for the useful banter. Growing up, I didn't see healthy models of self-love. Seldom did I see people who were committed to loving themselves, or even remotely interested in exploring what it means to love themselves. Now, as an adult when I see people, and especially brown women embodying the practice of self-love, I'm in awe and so keen on knowing more about their journey. Bali Deol, aka Lady B, is an example of a brown woman I met as an adult who is digging deep into loving herself. Imagine sitting on a beach, looking out into the ocean with a cool beverage in hand, palm trees swaying in the wind. Now, you may be wondering, what's with the sudden visual experiment? Well, that's because, in this episode of The Real Estate Diplomat, we have Barbara Warren from Noval Properties, building luxury developments throughout the Dominican Republic and the Caribbean. Sounds like a great getaway from the cool fall time in Chicago, right? Not only that, but Barbara will also be taking us on a journey, sharing her life growing up, her experience learning about different cultures and her rise to success as the Director of International Business Development. As always, there's a lot to unpack in today's episode, so tune in and enjoy! How Starting from Zero can be Worth ItWhen asked about her move from Saint Martin to the Dominican Republic, Barbara shared her struggles starting from zero. She had a beautiful life in St. Martin, having worked there for seventeen years in the hospitality industry. Barbara even had a television show. And while the island was small, the Saint Martin community was open-minded and respectful. Not that the Dominican Republic was not but the community there was, as Barbara described it, very settled in their ways. And so, upon moving there, it was challenging for her to start from zero. “Nobody knew, nobody cared” is what she believed for a while. But eventually, she stumbled upon a beautiful opportunity at Noval Properties. There, Barbara met their outstanding CEO, who was also from the hospitality real estate industry. She felt blessed, believing once again that everything happens for a reason. To think, Barbara crossed paths with her boss, who hired and believed in her, and even now, she still learns a lot from Noval Properties. And while it was hard in the beginning, having found an excellent professional system to go by helped get her back on her feet. In the end, her taking that leap to live globally helped her find a fresh new perspective in life.Take that Leap to Live GloballyFor Barbara Warren, global living allowed her to reinvent herself. And with each time she moved to a different place in the world, she takes what she learned from there and willingly starts anew. Sure, it can be challenging to make that transition, especially with the ongoing pandemic, but it was always worth it to Barbara. And so, when asked about how she helps other people make that same leap, Barbara shared an anecdote on her sales at the beginning of the pandemic. To give us an idea, she scaled it down to having 12 luxury villas on sale at the start of 2020, but they only had two left towards the end of the year. Again, they sold out projects during the pandemic, which means there was a need for luxury vacation properties even then. With this example, Barbara explained that the pandemic created many needs, from fresh air, sunshine, walking space, and of course, passive income.Then again, when we look back at our lives before the pandemic, these needs were always there. But now, a lot of people's minds have been reset, often spiritually. They realized that we are not living forever, so we must enjoy the now.  And so, after learning how important and precious life is, there is no better time than the present to give ourselves the chance to live globally. After all, only in living globally will we see ourselves with a fresh new perspective and even reinvent who we are like Barbara always did. And so, if you are sitting on money in the bank, take it out, buy something, and live the life you always wanted.
