A clinic in minimal from the elusive Acting Press boss. Why do certain sounds cultivate a cult following? Simply put, it's often because they resist easy consumption. PLO Man and his imprint Acting Press lean into this. Searching for the Berlin-based DJ and producer, you won't find much online presence, interviews or conventional PR. What you will find, if you look hard enough, is a catalogue of records and mixes with a kind of tape hiss charm (a spiritual successor to Basic Channel and Chain Reaction, but scuzzier and lighter on its feet). Founded in 2015, Acting Press once seemed to belong to the short-lived "outsider house" trend, but is now synonymous with a certain strain of modern minimal, one that is analogue, spacious and pointedly opaque. PLO Man's output is equally sparse by design: this week, he joins the RA Podcast with a characteristically elusive style, accompanying the near two-hour mix is a one-answer Q&A that gives almost nothing away. Stripped-back, ever-so-slightly sleazy and coated in dust, PLO Man's RA Podcast continues that lineage in style. Opening with the featherlight microhouse of Margaret Dygas, RA.988 unfolds into a carefully curated spectrum of minimal, dub and deep techno. Among familiar names—look out for the blinding Rhythm & Sound and Moodymann blend—are deep cuts and left turns alongside the odd outlier, like lovers' rock pioneer Gregory Isaacs. Like the best of his forebears, PLO Man wants RA.988 to take time for you to settle in. But once you do, you won't want to leave. @p_el_oh Find the tracklist and interview at ra.co/podcast/988

"It was so difficult to become someone." The house hero talks about Chicago's competitive scene, developing a sound and letting go of his ego. Theo Parrish is one of dance music's most influential DJs and producers. Raised in Chicago, he's become synonymous with slow-burning, immersive grooves and sets that mix classics with obscurities. He began DJing in 1986 aged 13, eventually earning a degree in sculpture and moving to Detroit, where he hit his stride as an artist and became a member of the collective Three Chairs alongside Moodymann, Rick Wilhite and Marcellus Pittman. He also started the label Sound Signature, which uses the language of soul, jazz, disco, Chicago house and Detroit techno. A few months ago, Resident Advisor teamed up with London institution fabric to host Parrish for an eight-hour set—his first time playing the club. While he was in town, he also spoke with CDR's Tony Nwachukwu. In the Exchange, Parrish talks about the intensely competitive scene he grew up in. He DJ'd for 13 years before he was ever paid or had his name billed on a lineup. It took years of passion and hard work to break out of his local scene and build the career he's become known for. "At five years, you're dealing with the technical part [of DJing], at ten it's finding your sound and at 15 it's dealing with the ego of it all," he says. "It's not until much later that you actually start to play for and with people." Parrish also reflects on the ongoing dearth of diversity in the dance music industry and posits whether some of the most popular music in the US—such as trap—reinforces counterproductive racial stereotypes. He asks: did house music ultimately survive because it left where it originally came from? Listen to the episode in full. -Chloe Lula

Born in New York, some of his earliest musical influences included his mother's love for soca music and the distinct Caribbean rhythms of his culture. An appreciation of Jazz would be further guided by his father's expanding audiophile home system. Moving to Detroit in 1980, the start of the decade where Techno would take formation, put him at the center of music history while simultaneously working at the now famed nightclub “The Music Institute”Relocating to Atlanta to attend Morehouse College, he took it upon himself to bring more of the authentic House and Techno flavor to his new home, playing at numerous clubs and bars in the metro area. Eventually this led to DEEP, his aptly-named, game changing decade long Saturday night residency at local club MJQ, where he would bring guests such as King Britt, Steve “Silk” Hurley, Peven Everett, Kerri Chandler, Phil Asher and Joe Claussell. It is during the 2000s that Kai really sets his stride. 2002 saw the release of his first production, ‘The Kaizer EP', on Brett Dancer's seminal deep house label Track Mode. After a few releases on other labels such as Moodymann's Mahogani Music, Deep Explorer & Real Soon. A few years later he would co-found the Labor Day weekend outdoor event House In The Park with DJ Ramon Rawsoul which now has over 15,000 attendees.2008 saw the creation of his label NDATL and the first edition of his annual Deep Detroit. NDATL stands for the cities that have played a role in his musical development: New York, Detroit, ATLanta. Which is home to many of his own productions and A List producers such as Larry Heard, Mr. G, Theo Parrish & Mike Huckaby to name a few.e has recently curated the boutique Kai Alcé Eyewear line. “The Kaizer” never stops moving. A love of life, mixed with his flair for originality, willingness to experiment and devotion to the dancefloor has cemented his place as a pillar in American dance music history. Whatever comes next from Mr. Alcé, you can be assured that it will be classy, soulful, fulfilling and funky. www.ndatl.comRecorded on April 7, 2025 in Brooklyn, NY.

Party-starting stompers from a crossover star. Even if you've never met Adam Longman Parker, AKA Afriqua, you can get to know him pretty well through his music. His lyrics ("Would you house me in a house, would you house right in my mouth?" from "Dr. House"), track titles ("Wagwan Bhagwan?") and cover art exude a charmingly cheeky demeanour that makes his music personable. It helps that his latest records are absolute smashers–funk bombs with jacked beats and bouncy grooves. Once ensconced in the minimal world, the Virginia-born artist gravitated towards Miami bass, Midwest house and zesty techno before the pandemic. Thankfully so: his recent discography combines Moodymann's slinky swagger with The Neptunes' killer sense of rhythm. Just like those legendary acts, Parker carries weight in both the underground and mainstream—he's released with Tomorrowland label CORE Records and DJ'd at Ibiza superclubs, while still appealing to more headsy crowds. His career expansion hasn't cost him his principles, either. A champion of Black history and culture, the classically-trained pianist infuses overlooked Black musical traditions like psyfunk into his work. Coloured, his debut full-length, was a tribute to what he called the "Black musical tree." "Genre is just temporary housing," the now Berlin-based producer noted in a recent Instagram post. That mentality informs his RA Podcast. From '90s-inspired house and luxurious harp melodies to some of his originals and even a "Satisfaction" remix, it's a celebration of unpretentious, feel-good music. Put simply, it slaps—hard. @afriqua Read more at ra.co/podcast/972

The August mix in recent years (excluding Covid) has become the Suncebeat mix as it's the first mix after the festival.  This year marked the last time Suncebeat will be held in Croatia, or the Tisno Gardens at least.  It was the fourteenth event which is incredible and shows the quality of the week long soulful house spectacular. It was the quietest in terms of numbers that I've been to and this was my fifth one.  What that meant though was the DJ/Punter ratio was awesome.  Seemed everywhere you looked legends of the scene were connecting with everyone and were really accessible. The highlights for me included meeting Martin Atjazz and Osunlade (both whom had a huge influence on the c2eMusic sound over the years), grabbing a picture with Osunlade, Spen and Rich Medina, catching up with The Journeymen, Joe Cox and Andy Ward and connecting with Danny T.  I was also encouraged to see the youngsters representing, having met the Coughlan Brothers, Ryan and Jay, as well as Noah Herel (yes Ronnie's son) on the Deep Into Soul boat party.I was lucky enough to then catch Noah put down a killer set for Mi-Soul later that night alongside his very proud dad.  The pair smashed it with Noah only having a few months of DJing under his belt!  Kenny Dope smashed it at the Olive Grove for Terry Hunter's Chosen Few night.  It's funny I was always a Louie fan growing up, but more recently Kenny has blown me away everytime I've heard him.  I think it says more about my own personal musical journey moving from the more soulful to a deeper more twisted sound.  Not to be outdone, Spen put on his own night of magic at the Olive Grove with Dawn Tallman and Aaron K providing a performance to remember together at the end of the night.  It was one of those "I was there" moments that you knew was special as it unfolded in front of you.Biggest surprise were Analog Soul out of NY, playing on the Beach Stage on Friday night. I'd never come across them before but there set was amazing.  The flow was great, but their tune selection was second to none, at least for my taste and preference anyway.  They certainly found a new fan right here.Back to the mix and I have to say it doesn't sound like a regular c2eMusic mix.  It's very laid back and chill for the most part.  I was worried it might not have enough energy but I can't sit still listening to it.  It has a very grown up mature feel to it which feels alien to me (I am after all just a big 48 year old man-child in many ways).I initially wasn't going to release this mix, some of the transitions aren't quite what I'd have liked and I couldn't find a track to end on that brings us back down safely!  However, after listening through a couple of times it feels wrong to hold it back when the tunes themselves are cool af. Tracklisting:1: Atjazz - Wutchbender2: Jimpster, Rich Medina - This Thing (Vocal Mix)3: Glass Slipper - Unification Vibration (Atjazz Main Mix)4: Donnie, Kai Alce - Olmec Save Us (Yoruba Soul Mix)5: Kx9000 - Sub Fatima6: Franck Roger - Les Emotions7: AirBorn Gav, Hurricane - Work (Atjazz Extended Mix)8: Dan Tenor-City, Tom Funk, RICOH - Close To The Source (Art of Tones Remix)9: Timothee Milton - I MIss Your Love (Rocco Rodamaal Underground Mix)10: Crackazat - Freddies Groove11: Jon Dixon, Kasan Belgrave - On My Own ft Moodymann12: Tuccillo - The Waves13: Col Lawton - I'm Not Rushing (Original Vocal Mix)14: 2Sleep - I Feel The Same15: Flabaire - The Bee's Boos16: Folkness - Fly High17: Criss Korey - One For Change18: Soledrifter - Love Is Here19: Lalo Leyy - Deeper20: Folkness - Fly High21: Greg Paulus, Terry Bence, Big-exy - Marino22: Clu Polar - Signals (Audiojack Remix)23: Shortcut - Raw Meat24: Kink - Existence25: Mark Henning - TrojanEnjoy!

This RA Podcast is a celebration of all things Moodymann, and by extension, Detroit. The long-time DJ and producer Dez Andrés calls Moodymann his "big brother," and here pays tribute to the true expanse of Kenny Dixon Jr's music, from core house cuts to rambling funk jams to remixes of artists like Dua Lipa and Solomun, which really hammers home how important Moodymann is on dance music from across the world and across genres. Andrés himself is also a legend. Active in Detroit since the '90s, he's a dance music Renaissance man, known for incredible hip-hop beats, disco and house, including massive hits like "New 4 U," one of the last decade's biggest dance music hits and RA's favourite track of 2012. His archive of records and mixes are essential listening for any house music or hip-hop fan, and he represents that distinct blend of influences and genres that defines Detroit—the same thing you can hear in this all-Moodymann mix. Spend enough time at (or listening to) The Lot Radio, and chances are all you'll find Gabrielle Kwarteng. Even though she lives in Berlin now, the American DJ wears New York on her sleeve, repping for the station that helped make her name (she won a Mixcloud award for "Best Eclectic Show" pretty early on). Sure, you could call her sound eclectic—she jumps from house to Afrobeat to Jersey club and beyond—but it seems like "intuitive" might be a better word. She has the taste of someone raised by musical parents on a diverse diet of albums, of someone who eats, breathes and sleeps records. Buoyed by her success in the US, Kwarteng moved to Berlin in 2019, not too long before the pandemic. Like so many other up-and-coming DJs, her momentum almost stalled as a result. But here we are in 2022 and Kwarteng is more successful than ever, with a string of upcoming festival dates highlighting her wide, transatlantic appeal. Her RA Podcast is equally welcoming, with a taste for house music that feels perfectly pitched between the classic and the new. You can hear an old soul, but she also has cutting-edge tracks from the likes of NIkki Nair, and a gutsy, fantastic edit of "Can You Feel It?" by Tom Carruthers. The mix also reflects her recently getting back in touch with her roots, featuring smatterings of East Coast club music and ballroom, all wrapped up with an exquisite finishing touch courtesy of a long Moodymann play-out.

MOODYMANN - is he ok ? Car Accident's News  Hi everybody sad news in the Techno world  today,  Moodymann has been injured in a car accident over the weekend, his label Mahògani Music says in a statement. It has resulted in Moodymann being unable to play his set at a Where Are My Keys party in his hometown of Detroit  The label has not provided any information about the details of the crash, or a location as to where the crash took place. "We regret to inform you that Moodymann along with another cherished member of our Mahògani Music family were injured in a severe auto accident," the label posted.   Hours later, the label posted an update confirming that he is in recovery but some upcoming tour dates will need to be cancelled. "Everyone involved in the collision is on the road to recovery," the statement reads. "Please allow us the time and space to heal. Unfortunately, we must cancel some upcoming tour dates. We will update the calendar as time goes on."  Last weekend was Memorial Day Weekend in the US. Alongside the Where Are My Keys party - Moodymann had several dates across Europe billed for the upcoming weeks in June, including OFFSónar, Parklife Festival, and Paraíso Festival.
