- Hey, Galgo. ¿Me llevás al puente? - Okey. - ¿Like a galgo machine? - ¿Qué dijiste, qué feeling me hablás? - ¿A cuál? Es parecido a tu apellido, take me to the bridge. Vamos a volver soon. Viva la radio. Saludos cordiales, JW & Galgo.

Tonight your heavenly hosts Ziv Lode and Dan Abbott clear the clouds from your ears with 60 minutes of tunes themed around the SKY. Join us to fly up, up and away on a supersonic journey through time with an international selection of SKY music. We'll rocket past the stratosphere, pierce the exosphere and tumble into the outer reaches of musicosphere where only foolish ears dare venture. On our "Island" section tonight, we listen to a new EP by intriguing Uruguayan/ US singer-songwriter Juan Wauters. Don't look down! As always, this is spontaneous and rather silly radio - we always throw in a couple of mistakes for your entertainment. 1. The Incredible String Band - Little Cloud 2. On Begilufin we play a wild, confusing mess of international sounds, stretching from the birth of recorded music to something we heard two days ago. We do our best to ignore the normal, accentuate the weird, and ignore borders, boundaries and time-zones. Each show revolves around a central theme and then we surprise each other (and you, dear listener) with our selections live on air. Since you ask, ‘Begilufin' is a Hebrew word meaning intoxicated, inebriated, drunk, sozzled or smashed - a perfect description of the delirious off-centre mix of crazed music we like to spin on the show or indeed the effect it might have on your ears. Begilufin was created by Ziv Lode in 2010. Ziv was joined by Dan Abbott a couples of years later after a chance meeting in a kindergarten playground revealed a mutual love of the music of Erkin ‘The Turkish Hendrix' Koray. * https://www.mixcloud.com/begilufin/ * https://www.instagram.com/begilufinradio/

Juan Wauters - “Modus Operandi (feat. Frankie Cosmos)" from the 2023 album Wandering Rebel on Captured Tracks On today's Song of the Day, Queens-based Uruguay-born artist Juan Wauters casts a critical eye on the New Yorkers who were able to vacate the city during the COVID-19 crisis. Against a melancholy plucked melody and with swelling strings, Wauters sings, "People that have options go back to their suburbs / To them it was just like some kind of Disney World." “COVID made it clear that some people have it harder than others,” Wauters told the Tucson Weekly. “People that didn't have an option, they were locked in their apartments. It was right in your face, the inequality of the world, and I commented on that. Sometimes I feel like ‘Modus Operandi' could come off like I was resentful that everyone left the city, and people that didn't have an option could not leave. Maybe I was resentful. But also, as I now look back and have a conversation about it, I realize that it's just an observation of everyday life.” “Maybe life is supposed to be like that, that some people live more comfortably than others, and some people are supposed to have it harder. But maybe it's an opportunity to talk about it, and perhaps we can do something that, if COVID hits again, it's not unfair.” The track features guest vocals from born-and-bred New Yorker Greta Kline, better known as Frankie Cosmos. In the accompanying music video, she and Wauters wander through NYC and Montevideo, respectively. Director Fatos Marishta shared in a press release, "The idea of 'Modus Operandi' is that even though Juan lives elsewhere now, his essence stays in New York. Sometimes he's in NY, sometimes he's not, he can be anywhere. We shot through one week in two different countries with Juan wandering through the streets of Montevideo during the inaugural carnaval parade and Greta in Union Square, NYC. As they are having a conversation about New York City, Greta senses and sees Juan in the vicinity but can't seem to reach him."  Read the full story at KEXP.orgSupport the show: https://www.kexp.org/donateSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Cola Boyy, Faye Webster, Juan Wauters and Cherry Glazerr's Clementine Creevy discuss why it takes leaving a town or city to appreciate it, not writing any lyrics down, how to make songs catchy, using movies for inspiration, and why songwriters have no privacy anymore. Cola Boyy is a self-taught musician and singer from Los Angeles. He released his debut album, Prosthetic Boombox, in June this year. The lyrics are inspired by his real life experiences, including being a person of colour with a disability, as he was born with spina bifida and scoliosis. Joining him is Faye Webster, an artist from Atlanta whose songwriting brings together honest and emotional lyrics with rap influences and pedal steel guitar. Her latest album is I Know I'm Funny Haha. Clementine Creevy is the lead singer and guitarist in LA-based rock band Cherry Glazerr. Her music blends punk, grunge and new wave with witty lyrics, and she's collaborated with Tyler the Creator and Death Grips. Finally, Juan Wauters is a Uruguayan-born singer-songwriter. He released the album Real Life Situations, in which he reflects on all aspects of the human experience, weaving in samples of television shows, and real conversations from voice notes he recorded on his phone. The album's impressive list of collaborators includes Mac Demarco, former Music Life guest Nick Hakim, and today's host, Cola Boyy. Together the group discuss why it takes leaving a town or city to appreciate it, not writing any lyrics down, how to make songs catchy, using movies for inspiration, and why songwriters have no privacy anymore.

Juan Wauters - "Presentation (feat. Nick Hakim & Benamin)," a 2021 single on Captured Tracks. On his latest single "Presentation," Juan Wauters, a longtime resident of Jackson Heights, pays tribute to New York City in this collaboration with artists Nick Hakim and Benamin.  "'Presentation' was made one night when Nick, Benamin and I met at Nick's studio in Brooklyn," Wauters stated in a press release. "Nick and I had only met a few times before and Benamin and I met that night. We all hit it off really well and made this song that was built by all of us pitching ideas." He continues: The lyrics are a mash up from a bunch of notes I had scattered on my cell phone. There are many references to other songs, some obvious some not so much. I’d rather not disclose that since that’s the fun for you, the listener. I wanted the video to be an ode to early NYC hip hop in a very cliché way.  It was filmed during the summer of 2020. At that time, there weren’t many people around the city, a lot of transplants had left and there were no tourists, so that painted the city in a very special tone. Nick, Ben and I met at a playground in Maspeth, Queens with Matthew Volz where we shot some casual footage of us to the song. The day after Matthew and I went to the Bronx to meet with a young crew of breakdancers. It was a really hot day. We filmed with them for about an hour. The dancers really brought the house down. It was so cool to see them all vibe to the music. We also filmed at Central Park’s Alice In Wonderland statue to connect some lyric references.  In many ways, unintentionally, the song as much as the video came out to be a big shoutout to NY and things that have come out there. New York has been one of the main powers pushing behind my creation and this is me saluting it again. Girl in rRd anuncia if i could make it go quiet, su esperado disco de debut, con la felicidad pop de "serotonin", `primer adelanto coproducido por Finneas.

This week, Mark starts us off with a great new tune from the team of Juan Wauters with Benamin, and Nick Hakim, on a fun New York City hip-hop tune. Next, Ulrich Schnauss and Jonas Munk build smooth electronics and guitar into a tune entitled "Asteroid 2467." Then, a great pop song teaming Glasgow's Texas with RZA and Ghost from the Wu-Tang Clan. From there, we head west for some gothic folk from Chelsea Wolfe and Emma Ruth Rundle. Our archive track this week is a lost '80s gem from That Petrol Emotion.

📌Fiztcarraldo 12 +1 . De el álbum “ We Are Sent Here by History” que salió el pasado abril ponemos el tema “"The Coming of the Strange Ones". Because Her Beauty Is Raw and Wild”.

Hey, folks! There was no episode of Random Old Records in October, truly sorry for the delay! I needed a little extra time to craft the perfect selection of tracks for this one. Episode #56 is a special 5-10-15-20 edition, which opens up the memory banks and goes back in time to the years 2011, 2006, 2001, and 1996. Looking back, none of these years were particularly "great" for music, but each one definitely has their fair share of jams!In 2011, Thee Oh Sees kicked off a remarkable run of albums with the acid-folk creep of Castlemania. Meanwhile, The Beets delivered their excellent final LP Let The Poison Out before leader Juan Wauters started a solo career. A decade prior, Jersey post-hardcore rockers Rye Coalition unleashed THEIR final LP Curses, which had been in major label limbo for two years prior to release, and further south, Texas punks the Marked Men released their classic Fix My Brain.2001 was the prime year for emo and post-hardcore, at least in my circle of friends at the time. Bands like Hey Mercedes and Hot Water Music were crafting anthems, while the remnants of Cap'n Jazz were crafting avant-fusion rock with Owls. Finally, the hour wraps up with a bunch of Britpop and indie rock from 1996, when both genres were in slight decline but still pumping out plenty of jams. In between the tracks are some vintage news stories to ramp up the nostalgia and complete the time capsule. Hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I had putting it together. As always, thanks for listening, and stay tuned for episode #57 next month!Random Old Records Podcast #56Released 11/07/16DOWNLOAD HERE1.
