2021 Aug When House Meets TranceImpromptu live set interrupting the Beach House series. It just happened... We need to “bring it back”!There is a soundspace where House meets Trance. Always loved it, always strive to get there. From 122 to 138 bpm, at times banging, with new remixes of classics, Phil Collins, Pat Benatar and Madonna dropped in.Highlighting 2 tracks which required a bit of editing work: a mashup up of no-less than a new Paul Van Dyk remix of the balearic anthem “Cafe Del Mar” and Chicane's “Saltwater” I which we added synth pads and a choral work rendition of “As the Rush Comes” with time delayed fourth and fifth harmonies of two remixes with added accapellas to boot. In this episode, we will take a trip back to 2009, which was when Club Soda: Season 4 premiered as a podcast. Drifting away from the 2-hour radio format in seasons 1 through 3, each episode in season 4 was a continuous mix. I've selected a handful of tracks I felt truly defined me during that season. From the 80s, through 90s hip-hop, to new remixes of songs that blew my mind at my first trip to Liquid in Miami 16 years ago. I say Electronic Mashup because there is no way to say this is all one genre. I do throw a couple techno and progressive tracks that paid homage to a style I loved in the past as well. Two firsts. First time, I put a song I've played in a previous mix into this one. First repeat song, you have to guess which one. Second, It is also my first go around on Traktor Kontrol S2 so I hope the overall sound is more on point. Feedback whether positive or negative is always appreciated. Spring has Sprung Pt.3 (Vintage Trance for Vintage Ravers) Third and last part.. It got a bit more interesting from there on.. A bit of context.. For a few years, our crew has been yearning for some good old uplifting Trance.. Back to the 90’s.. I was quite apprehensive about it, not being sure that we ,still, actually could handle any sustained trance. I did learn a few things whilst mixing the set and I will come back to that later, but I am happy to report that I was proven wrong., Trance can work if appropriately tailored to the crowd. I learned a valuable lesson for the next time I play Trance: A) Maximum length of set should be 1h30 B) Unless the track is an ABSOLUTE ANTHEM (and there are max 10 of these all around) no track should be more than 4/5 minutes, therefore only radio edits to be used in the future. C) Attention span of the punters is 2 minutes if nothing change ( levels etc...). I will be back with an original mix within a fortnight.. To our friends.. After doing the Spooky mix, I've been itching to do a happy mix. With Sparkle still a few weeks away, just decided to make one of my favorites. I was actually not going to do a new mix for a while, but started playing around bored one night and next thing you know I had one roughly done. As you can probably see, this is not the 2003 Chrome Edition I had previously promised. My BPM folder was filling up fast and I decided I might as well get this knocked out before I get backed up. I'm anticipating a mid-September release for the next Chrome Edition. Once again, I did not have enough material to comprise another T-Dance mix, so I went ahead and incorporated several of the funkier numbers in with this mix. Frankly, I think this may very well be the way this series moves in the future. Since discontinuing the System Edition, I've been incorporating several of those songs into this series and now some of the funkier songs usually reserved for the T-Dance mixes coupled with the electro-pop stuff that was so prevalent in the past. In all honesty, I think this just makes more sense. If I had to call this and it's accompanying mix anything, I would call it "house music for grown-ups that still enjoy pop tarts".LOL! If anything, it provides the listener with an eclectic musical experience without getting too monotonous. Every song over the course of these two mixes was specifically picked because they moved me one way or another. I can honestly say, no filler here, not even to help me transition out of a song to get on with the mix. As usual, there are standouts that most people are going to gravitate towards, so let me help you out. Starting with the return of Moony best known for her early millennium #1 hits Dove (I'll Be Leaving You) and Point of View with DJ Boulevard and the underground classic He's All I Want with Angelmoon, she delivers another dark slice of heaven with I Don't Know Why. While the Jerome Ism-ae mix, which appeared on BPM v5 is darker and more progressive befitting the actual meaning of the song, Viale & DJ Ross take it in a sunnier direction and smother it with a killer piano hook that just makes you feel good no matter the lyrical content. Another killer is newcomer Ameerah's The Sound of Missing You. Though this song appeared in an earlier BPM edition (I think the spring), it's just now getting added to the Promo Only set for September. With it's pulsating synths that are heavily influenced by the Don Henley classic The Boys of Summer, I expect this will be in heavy rotation at radio if it already isn't. Then there are the electro-pop darlings like Pixie Lott and Mini Viva already receiving a lot of buzz from sites like Arjan Writes, Electroqueer and Popjustice who deliver perfectly delectable slices of retro heaven on Boys and Girls and the outstanding Left My Heart in Tokyo. In particular, Pete Hammond who apparently has come out of retirement made two solid mixes for Mini Viva; one more contemporary for today's dance floors and another 80's throwback very similar to his work with SAW (Stock, Aiken & Waterman) which is just as much fun as the latter. The Bassmonkeys return with In the Moment featuring the awesome dance floor veteran and diva extraordinaire Abigail Bailey. Currently sitting at the top of XpressBeats' Most Wanted Chart, this is a surefire funky house pleaser. After last year's successful Ride My Tempo proving she's not just a one-hit wonder, Ida Corr returns with I Want You. No doubt the Funkerman mix will have you guys shaking your asses through the fall. Another big one to watch out for is 5th place Eurovision contestant Jade Ewen. Her first single My Man is blowing up on both sides of the aisle and well on it's way to a club floor near you. Finally, we have the return of the always fabulous Vanessa Williams, who just put out her first full-length studio album in four years. Jam packed with amazing remixes including Soul Seekerz and Ralphi Rosario, I expect The Real Thing to do very well in the clubs. For now, I'm delivering the breezy samba take by the Seekerz which further prove their own prowess and why I'm a huge fan of theirs. Maybe it's time for me to add them to the Catching Up With series, we'll see. Well,

The truth is, there are two times a year when the market gets flooded with new music; obviously during the summer and during the winter. Why you ask? Because these are highly coveted times to have a dancefloor hit. It's when people vacation, relax, let loose and escape all the bullshit realities of life. To have a hit during these peak times generally translates into money. It's pretty much that simple. Nevertheless, experience has taught me that often times (especially in the U.S. market) there will be several key songs on this series that will not hit clubs, much less radio until February or March of next year. We have a tendency to be behind the rest of the world when it comes to trends and new music. It is what it is and I don't see the brainiacs in the dance industry changing anytime soon. Everybody wants to follow the tried and true of the old way of doing business and nobody wants to be the bellwether of dance, much less a trailblazer. Therefore, it's my job to bring to you some (
