We Americans are fundamentally conservative, right? That’s what we’ve been told for as long as anyone can remember. You can’t express or advocate for honest progressive values, you must pander to the mythical “right of center” middle. But this idea has failed us and lead to the current disaster in Washington. So please join us as we discuss the value of being boldly progressive in Houston, with Laura Moser.

If you live in Congressional District 7 (parts of Houston), the Democratic Primary has been a contentious one and heavily covered by the media. Laura Moser, who is running to be the Democratic nominee for CD-7, had opposition research used against her by the DCCC in the March Primary Election. The DCCC claimed she was too progressive for the district she is running for. Texans, don't like non-Texans telling them what to do, still gave her enough votes to send her off into a heated Democratic Primary Runoff. Early voting has begun in the state of Texas for the Primary Runoffs with Election Day on May 22nd. Tune in to hear what Laura has to say about this upcoming runoff election, learn more about her platform, how it is to be a mother and running for office, and why she thinks she'd be the better Democratic nominee to go up against Rep. Culberson in November. Don't forget to early vote this week or vote on election day (May 22nd) for the Primary Runoffs!

An American author and politician, the founder of the anti-Trump resistance movement Daily Action. She is a candidate for the United States Congress in Texas's 7th congressional district for the Democratic Party.Moser published her first book, an "efficient, compact" biography of the actress Bette Davis, in 2005.[5] With her friend Lauren Mechling, she co-authored a series of young adult novels about the experiences of a girl who moves from Houston to Brooklyn.[6]She contributed to The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Vogue, and The Jewish Daily Forward. She worked as the education columnist at Slate.com, where she explored many areas of policy.Following the United States presidential election, 2016, Moser founded an organization called Daily Action.[8] In 2017, she moved back to Texas's 7th congressional district to run for Congress in 2018.[9]In March 2018, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) attracted widespread condemnation for funding opposition research against her, a move that was widely perceived as helping Moser make the runoff against the establishment favorite, attorney Lizzie Pannill Fletcher. In that primary on March 6, 2018 she earned 24.3% of the vote after Fletcher's 29.3%, in the seven-candidate field. The run-off is May 22. [10][11] Tom Perez, who became the chair of the Democratic National Committee after the downfall of Debbie Wasserman Schultz in 2016, had broken ranks and criticized the DCCC's opposition to Moser.[12]

Recently, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) has stirred up major controversy by attempting to sabotage progressive Democratic primary candidates Laura Moser in Texas' 7th and Greg Edwards. Edwards, an Afro-Latinx civil rights activist and pastor, is not just the most progressive candidate in his race, but one of the most progressive viable candidates running for the House of Representatives in 2018. His website proudly proclaims that "this moment does not call for moderation, but revolutionary ideals rooted in progress," a sentiment clearly not shared by the DCCC or other establishment Democratic Party organizations. We spoke with Greg Edwards on the podcast prior to the DCCC controversy about the recent de-gerrymandering of his state, how to translate transformative justice into public policy, and radical criminal justice reform.

A portion of our Young Turks Main Show from February 23, 2018. For more go to http://www.tytnetwork.com/join. Hour 1:  Kansas election. The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is taking fire from the left after months of relative peace, thanks to a document put online the night of Feb. 22 — a collection of opposition research on Laura Moser, a progressive candidate in Texas’s competitive 7th Congressional District. As Moser was attending a campaign event, the DCCC posted a short but brutal collection of hits on Moser that would be likely used against her if she won the Democratic nomination. The 7th District is one of 23 where Hillary Clinton outpolled Donald Trump in 2016, while voters sent a Republican congressman to Washington. “Democratic voters need to hear that Laura Moser is not going to change Washington,” the committee wrote. “She is a Washington insider, who begrudgingly moved to Houston to run for Congress.”  Moser responded later Thursday night, saying in a statement that the DCCC’s tactics represented “why people hate politics” and hurt the effort to take Congress back from Republicans. Hour 2:  Missouri GOP Gov. Eric Greitens was indicted on Thursday amid looming allegations of sexual misconduct and blackmail following an admission of an affair last month. He was charged in St. Louis with a first-degree felony invasion of privacy, according to the Missouri court system. In a statement Thursday, Greitens denied committing any crime and instead called the situation “a personal mistake” from his time prior to taking office. The election of Donald J. Trump and his rapid-fire issuance of careless, unvetted executive orders has awakened a sleeping giant on the left. On his first weekend in office, Trump was greeted by the spectacle of the Women's March. And once he signed his uncontitutional order restricting travel from seven predominantly Muslim nations (including legal permanent residents of the United States), spontaneous demonstrations exploded across the country.  Our representatives also report an exponential increase in phone calls and visits to their office, by frustrated progressives who are taking a page from the Tea Party, a minority faction of that successfully took the Republican Party hostage and hasn't let go - culminating in the election of this disastrous leader. MOMocrats Karoli and Donna Schwartz Mills welcome Daily Action founder Laura Moser, the woman behind one of the new daily text-message services that are helping people resist extremism in Trump's America.
