Libryia Jones is living a two-fold dream: building a business that allows her to travel around the world. The Wanderist Life is a community of location independent (entrepreneurs or employees) mostly black professionals who travel the world for up to a whole year. Libryia had always wanted to travel and live abroad but she just didn’t know how. While in grad school, her professor recommended her for the perfect opportunity, but she was disqualified because she had a child. Years later, another opportunity presented itself and Libryia was yet again disqualified because she had a child. That’s when Libryia sprang into action and created a travel community that could accommodate people just like her. In this episode, Librya and I talk about how the Wanderist Life travel program works, who it’s a perfect fit for, how they prepare their travelers for their trip, and in case you’re thinking well I’m not location independent, then Libryia has tips and resources to help you become location independent. Listen to the full episode to learn Libryia’s tips for overcoming challenges of building a travel business. To find out more about this episode, go to www.artsteele.co/ep47-LibryiaJones
Libryia Jones (@wanderwomanic) has made it easier for people to have the experience of living in different places. Last year, she organized a trip for her and and more than thirty others to spend a year on the road. They lived in places like Prague, Cape Town, and my personal favorite, Medellin. If you've been listening to this show for awhile, you know that I'm a big advocate of travel. More accurately I'm a big advocate of mini-lives – living on a different place for a month or more at a time. It's a great way to grow and it just makes life interesting. But travel isn't always easy. You have to find a place to live and work, and it can be more fun if you have others to share the experience with. Libryia's company, Wanderist is organizing another trip. In fact, there are two opportunities to come through Medellin, so hopefully some listeners will check it out. In this conversation, we'll talk about: How did Libryia turn rejection into opportunity? She wasn't able to travel in other programs, so she made her own program. How does Libryia travel, even as a single mother? She has a refreshing point-of-view about seeing parenthood as a source of inspiration, rather than as a limitation. When you travel, you want to be safe. How does Libryia think about traveling to places that others might see as dangerous? If you've ever wanted to travel the world and satisfy your wanderlust, then today's interview is for you! It's with the lovely Libryia Jones. Libryia is the founder of My Wander Year and she is the type of person who will look at the price tag on a designer handbag or a pair of shoes and think “I could get a plane ticket to Istanbul for that”. She checks google flights before she checks her emails. Her friends and co-workers don’t ask what she did over the weekend, they ask where she went. She keeps a carry-on packed with travel essentials ready to go at all times. She is a self-proclaimed Wanderist. Over the last two years, Libryia has become increasingly passionate about travel. But in between landings and take-offs, she's a single soccer mom and an IT Project Manager who loves cooking and doing DIY decor projects at home.
