Hello I'm Granger Forson www.bizsmart-gloucestershire.co.uk or find me on LinkedIn. This time on ScaleUp Radio I speak with Carlo Colucci, the Client Director at County Employee Benefits. County Employee Benefits is a business that is based in Gloucester and help their clients understand and define the best employee benefits they would need to recruit and retain their ideal staff. They started a few years ago, but they've already grown by taking on Carlo and have plans with more growth to come. It was so interesting hearing Carlo's story about how he came to the business and fitted into the culture and the passion driving it. As always, we cover a lot of ground, including: - Working in an office after a long time at home drives a set of under used social skills - Working alongside the business owner every day is a true benefit of an SME rather than being a cog in the wheel of large company. - Bringing value to a client to meet their needs rather than just chasing the fee is so rewarding. What's so illuminating about this conversation with Carlo is how it shows working in an SME with a family attitude approach is so rewarding and little daily chats are so valuable. I just know that you'll get something out of this episode. Women are under-represented in sales so this series focuses exclusively on Women in Sales. My guest in Episode 4 is Caroline Mastoras, Client Director at Salesforce. As well as her day job with the tech giant, she is also Bloom President 2022 and a winner at Women in Sales Awards 2022. Caroline's varied career, from a short stint in teaching to years of sales in both media and tech, has brought her success and an insight into the importance of diversity in the workplace, not least the role of women. In this episode, we hear Caroline's view on working as a minority in sales (as a woman), the differences between media sales and tech sales and how the diversity question applies not just to gender but a range of other 'differences'. With ADHD, Caroline's difference is not just gender but she sees room for all types and all sorts in sales and actually thinks it helps a sales team to have as diverse a team as possible. We sell to a diverse society so we should be diverse ourselves, right? In addition to our diversity discussion, we explore the differences Caroline has found being a woman in sales - what challenges has she faced that, had she been Colin Mastoras, she would not have faced as a man? We close our conversation with Caroline's sources of inspiration - a couple of new names for me and, hopefully, for you too. If you'd like to get in touch with Caroline, you can find her on LinkedIn, via Salesforce (https://www.salesforce.com/uk/?ir=1) or - if you'd like to find out more about Bloom and the mentoring work they do - via the Bloom website: https://www.bloomnetwork.uk/

Anthony Mach is a Client Director at a consulting firm, and formerly an Account Manager at one of the big tech companies. His role consists of meeting with clients from small to large enterprises, and solving their biggest challenges through technology. In this episode, we discussed how sales is rarely promoted during our time in school or from parents, and how it is one of the more attainable career paths to earn 6-7 figures.
David Corsaro is a Client Director at MetrixLab and he fooled me on this podcast. I don't feel so bad, though, because he also took the trophy on “Fool Us” by stumping Penn & Teller. David has always had two careers, a magician and a market researcher. They are not one and the same, but he has distilled insightful lessons from each. In fact, he recently delivered a compelling presentation at the Insights Association South Central Chapter Annual Conference in Las Vegas where attendees, myself included, came away both with a new lens on research and wondering if magic is actually real. As good a magician as David is, he's an even better marketer and researcher. We discuss his journey through both careers, how they intersect and we share some mutual love for the Beastie Boys.

Tasneem is an authentic leadership coach at Fervent Living and the Client Director for Online Audience Measurement at IPSOS. As an ambitious introvert herself, Tasneem loves helping her fellow introverts grow in their way while growing in their career by creating an authentic leadership presence. Most of the time, new business owners will hire people in their likeness or those who resemble their personalities and traits in one way or another. While this may seem like an excellent way to get the ball rolling, it can create problems later on, mainly if a conflict arises in the company or workplace; this can lead to severe issues with your staff and even investors if not checked. However, to win at having the right team, one has to hire right, and in doing that, one has to understand what they are as a person, what kind of people you work well with, and who you are looking for. While there are tons of ways to look for people, whether it's using a recruitment agency to look for potential employees or looking for them by yourself, but regardless of what method you will be using, winning at hiring the right people is by making sure you get your write down your job description clearly and what kind of people you want for the job. And since we are dealing with people, we should also treat our employees as human beings.Business owners tend to have a rather unhealthy obsession with themselves and only care about their business, thus neglecting their people because they can be easily replaced. While investing in your team members can be time-consuming, the rewards you will reap will be great.Spend time to identify your employees' strengths by either a.) taking strength-finder tests, b.) asking them because people generally know what they are good at or what they are interested in, and lastly c.) observing working closely with them.Key Learning Points: Tasneem says that an essential step in winning or getting things right is by hiring the right people - 01:30 Tasneem says that when hiring right, one should understand who they are, what kind of people we work well with, and who you are looking for. - 02:08 While experience is an essential requirement, Tasneem adds that business owners and managers should look beyond the CV of potential employees and look at their characteristics and see if they can work well with you and who you are looking for. - 02:16 Mads says it's not just about hiring someone good but also understanding what fits you as an individual and understanding the role. - 03:50 Tasneem says that when building your network, business owners should join associations and trade bodies that are relevant to your business because not only will you be updated with the latest trends and information in your niche but because you will quickly get recommendations of people who you can work with - 09:05 Mads shares how he uses LinkedIn to his advantage when traveling. He reaches out to people by opening his LinkedIn and messaging random people in the area he is visiting. He adds that this has allowed him to meet great friends and allies who he will likely never meet if he didn't reach out at all. - 10:17 Tasneem says that business owners should foster an environment where employees are committed to working where they feel that they belong and contribute to the success of their organization. - 16:08 Tasneem talks about how people are not giving feedback well; she builds a strong team because she is very open and forward. But how we deliver feedback should also matter to allow a shift in people's mindset. - 19:35 Mads says that the value of a company is in its people, and the more you increase the skillset of your people, the more valuable your company has, the more your company's worth increases, the more you will have happier clients. - 22:33 Tasneem says that business owners should put people first because when you put people first, they put your business first. - 22:42 Resources Mentioned:BlogConnect with Tasneem Ali:LinkedInInstagramTwitterEmail

We are now well into the fourth industrial revolution with the fifth just around the corner. As engineers we have always been at the forefront of these changes, however the rules are changing. Now more than ever we need to focus on outcomes, the benefits we provide and the environments that we set. The human centred approach is a common theme. We have fantastic opportunity to support these changes and address the challenges that are ahead of us. Our Talking Buildings guest this month is Tim Spies from Aurecon, he is there Global Leader of their Building Mechanical team and Client Director for commercial property within Australia. Tim will share his views on the role we have to play in the future of engineering and lesson we can learn from other industries.
Unfortunately, and as much as we might like it to be the case, there is no miracle elixir for defined benefit schemes. Rather than hoping for magic, we’ve identified some tried and tested methods for making sure schemes run like well-oiled machine – mixed metaphors aside. Studies have long shown that asset allocation is hugely important, typically accounting for the vast majority of the variation in portfolio returns over time. So focusing on asset allocation, alongside rigorous risk management and cost control within a strong governance framework, is what will drive improved outcomes for schemes. That in turn can create a more stable corporate balance sheet and improve benefit security for members. However, we often see significant time spent picking lots of different investment managers – either directly or via a fiduciary manager – who come with the promise of added value, despite there being no comprehensive evidence (https://protect-eu.mimecast.com/s/nwgGC2vopFz57lHndynx?domain=gov.uk) either way. In this conversation, we discuss the key ways defined benefit schemes can improve their effectiveness. · Lisa Purdy, Head of Fiduciary Distribution · Mark Vickery, Client Director · Eliza Grimond, Content Manager We want to hear from you! Employer branding has never been a more popular discussion topic with a huge amount of content and conference time now dedicated to it. Working in partnership with my regular co-collaborator Mervyn Dinnen and in conjunction with employer brand solution provider Papirfly, this summer we did a piece of research design to restore the balance by uncovering the real issues in employer branding. On the podcast this week I’m joined by Sara Naveda, Client Director at Papirfly, to discuss the research and its findings. In our discussion we cover four key issues: • How to align internal and external brand to greater effect • Why employer brand becomes even more important in times of commercial turmoil • How to adopt employee generated content to grow your employer brand at scale • The importance of measuring effectiveness of your efforts, and best practice techniques for doing so You can download the full insight report here for free Subscribe to this podcast in iTunes
