John 4:1–42 (Listen) Jesus and the Woman of Samaria 4:1 Now when Jesus learned that the Pharisees had heard that Jesus was making and baptizing more disciples than John 2 (although Jesus himself did not baptize, but only his disciples), 3 he left Judea and departed again for Galilee. 4 And he had to pass through Samaria. 5 So he came to a town of Samaria called Sychar, near the field that Jacob had given to his son Joseph. 6 Jacob's well was there; so Jesus, wearied as he was from his journey, was sitting beside the well. It was about the sixth hour.1 7 A woman from Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give me a drink.” 8 (For his disciples had gone away into the city to buy food.) 9 The Samaritan woman said to him, “How is it that you, a Jew, ask for a drink from me, a woman of Samaria?” (For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.) 10 Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is that is saying to you, ‘Give me a drink,' you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water.” 11 The woman said to him, “Sir, you have nothing to draw water with, and the well is deep. Where do you get that living water? 12 Are you greater than our father Jacob? He gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did his sons and his livestock.” 13 Jesus said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, 14 but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again.2 The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” 15 The woman said to him, “Sir, give me this water, so that I will not be thirsty or have to come here to draw water.” 16 Jesus said to her, “Go, call your husband, and come here.” 17 The woman answered him, “I have no husband.” Jesus said to her, “You are right in saying, ‘I have no husband'; 18 for you have had five husbands, and the one you now have is not your husband. What you have said is true.” 19 The woman said to him, “Sir, I perceive that you are a prophet. 20 Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, but you say that in Jerusalem is the place where people ought to worship.” 21 Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe me, the hour is coming when neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father. 22 You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews. 23 But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. 24 God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.” 25 The woman said to him, “I know that Messiah is coming (he who is called Christ). When he comes, he will tell us all things.” 26 Jesus said to her, “I who speak to you am he.” 27 Just then his disciples came back. They marveled that he was talking with a woman, but no one said, “What do you seek?” or, “Why are you talking with her?” 28 So the woman left her water jar and went away into town and said to the people, 29 “Come, see a man who told me all that I ever did. Can this be the Christ?” 30 They went out of the town and were coming to him. 31 Meanwhile the disciples were urging him, saying, “Rabbi, eat.” 32 But he said to them, “I have food to eat that you do not know about.” 33 So the disciples said to one another, “Has anyone brought him something to eat?” 34 Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to accomplish his work. 35 Do you not say, ‘There are yet four months, then comes the harvest'? Look, I tell you, lift up your eyes, and see that the fields are white for harvest. 36 Already the one who reaps is receiving wages and gathering fruit for eternal life, so that sower and reaper may rejoice together. 37 For here the saying holds true, ‘One sows and another reaps.' 38 I sent you to reap that for which you did not labor. Others have labored, and you have entered into their labor.” 39 Many Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman's testimony, “He told me all that I ever did.” 40 So when the Samaritans came to him, they asked him to stay with them, and he stayed there two days. 41 And many more believed because of his word. 42 They said to the woman, “It is no longer because of what you said that we believe, for we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this is indeed the Savior of the world.” Footnotes [1] 4:6 That is, about noon [2]

And what did he find? He found that Jesus is more than enough.Listen Jesus isn't asking for more than you can give, but he may be asking for all you have to give. OPENING ILLUSTRATION: Prepare yourself to want to say, “Awe…” at the end of this story. One of my earliest memories was hiding under a table in our living room. It had been pushed up against a wall so we could clean. I don't know if every family is like this, but when our family came to visit my parents went crazy thinking we had to clean our house to the nth degree. And my family growing up were slobs - that's a nice way of saying it. I was under that table crying my eyes out because my dad had told me to clean a particular room, my mom had told me to clean the bathroom, and my older brother had yelled at me and told me to put a bunch of junk away. I was under that table crying because I couldn't do all of them at once and I was afraid they were all going to be angry with me so I hid… Can I tell you a secret about me and you? When we were growing up, we all learned ways of dealing with the brokenness in this world - patterns of living, paths to walk on that seemed to “save” us… For me, hiding and escaping became my mechanism - when things get painful - I escape by making things fun and funny… and guess what… Hiding or escaping became a type of salvation for me… b And it worked - for a while until it didn't… I'm not alone in this Some of you are the opposite of me you don't try to escape, you try to control - you found that when you stood up and took the wheel - that you felt better, so you became a controller Some of you need to bring things into order - and you have to have everything perfect all the time and perfection was your salvation… For some of you, it was relationships and people - needing people in your world who could make you feel good and keep you from being alone There are a million ways that we all set up idols to run to for salvation b But any salvation that is not found in Jesus leads to death I want to read you a passage Jesus read about Himself… Listen to it: Isaiah 61:1-2 The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, 2 to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor Good news to the poor Bind up the brokenhearted Proclaim freedom for the captives Release from darkness for prisoners b Let me be clear - Jesus' salvation is found in the forgiveness of sins - but that's only the starting point - He came not just to forgive but to restore and set you free It is Jesus saying in John 8:36 So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. He wants to bind up your broken heart, he wants to bring freedom to you, he wants to give you good news if you're poor and bring light into your darkness… Maybe you're asking… So, if Jesus wants to restore and set me free, then why do I still seem to struggle so much? I'll tell you what I think it is… Many of us recognized our need for a Deliverer in Jesus but never died to our old strategy of salvation… ILLUSTRATION: For me, it looks like this… I have a painful week of failing at every turn. I forget to do something major for my wife and start to feel like a failure. I miss an important meeting accidentally. And it's all capped off by someone coming into my office to complain about something I said in my sermon. I go home and while Jenni and the kids are upstairs, I open the cupboard and pull out a package of Oreos and I start to escape… I don't even realize how much I try to escape and just how quick my muscle memory goes back to those patterns of salvation. B I, at that moment, am completely atheist. Because I am treating my broken incomplete heart with a completely godless solution. So, what do you do? I want you to listen to Paul in Romans - he's been building up the gospel and how Jesus is like Adam - how just as through one man sin entered the world, so does the solution come through one man and that His death becomes salvation for all… Romans 6:2bff We are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? 3 Or don't you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4 We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. 5 For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we will certainly also be united with him in a resurrection like his. 6 For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with,[a] that we should no longer be slaves to sin— 7 because anyone who has died has been set free from sin. Did you notice what Paul said? He said that when we were baptized, we were baptized into Jesus' Death b This is a mystery - when Jesus died - He died once, for all - Paul is connecting the dots “we know our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with.” This is why baptism is SO vital Because you are choosing in that moment to identify that your life has died… -you are going into a medium that literally could kill you -you are losing complete control as someone else buries you -you are giving up the fight of sin and control in your life and taking hold of the gift of death… See, I think the problem for most of us is when we were baptized we didn't unite with Jesus' death in our body and die to ourselves - we just wanted a get out jail free card - not a complete restoration of our being. Jesus came to restore your whole self But that means that when you go under the water - you actually have to stop the fight… CLOSING ILLUSTRATION: That day when I was crying under the table. My mom and dad found me and asked me, Kent, what's wrong - I told them what was going on. And my dad and mom comforted me and told me I didn't have to hide or run, that I didn't have to carry all that burden myself. Listen - Jesus died so you could die to your sin, so He could pull you out from the tables you've set up in your life that are your protective muscle memory. Isn't it time that you came out and died to those things and started letting His light in? What does that mean? b It means when you find yourself in the proverbial cupboard eating the proverbial oreo - that you start to untangle your heart before God and ask Him to help reveal to you why you so quickly became an atheist and turned to something other than Him for restoration of your heart. Remember, you died in that water - you now live the life Jesus came to offer - HERE and NOW, not in the future. There is a God who longs to pull you out from the table and wipe your tears! Let Him today! ------------------ DON'T FORGET - WRITE A SHORT SERMON - YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO DO A FINANCIAL UPDATE AND PREPARE EVERYONE FOR "STORIES OF IMPACT" SERIES. Romans 6:1-14 What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? 2 By no means! We are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? 3 Or don't you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4 We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. 5 For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we will certainly also be united with him in a resurrection like his. 6 For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with,[a] that we should no longer be slaves to sin— 7 because anyone who has died has been set free from sin. 8 Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. 9 For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, he cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over him. 10 The death he died, he died to sin once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God. 11 In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus. 12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires. 13 Do not offer any part of yourself to sin as an instrument of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer every part of yourself to him as an instrument of righteousness. 14 For sin shall no longer be your master, because you are not under the law, but under grace. One of my favorite things to get to be a part of is someones baptism. It's one of the greatest pleasures of my life! God takes someone dying to themself and gives them new life. Peter says it's the point where God forgives someone their sin and gives them the gift of the Holy Spirit. Baptism is literally the point where water, for you and me, ends with us giving up the fight. It is “no more fight”… STUDY: -Paul's argument is that baptism was the union of our own death with Christ - it is where we are crucified -Vs 6 - "done away with" could also be "rendered powerless" -It's an important question to ask yourself where you have become a slave to something other than Christ. What does it look like to die to sin and have sin in your body be rendered powerless -sin lives in your body - it can very much be from a thought patter or a muscle memory you have. Most people try to fight those inclinations without changing the root - dying to the bodily control of that habit or desire. -vs 10 - the death he died he died to sin - Paul's whole argument is that we have been united and brought into the death of Christ through baptism. Jesus' death was to sin - it was once for all - it's WHY we all need to be united to His death - it's how we die to sin - we become participants in the cross with Christ. Because His death was my death. So, how do we live? The same way He lived. the life he lives, He lives to God. -vs 11-14 then become the masthead of the Christian life - of entering into the kingdom through Jesus. -it's about... -counting yourself dead to sin - but alive to God in Christ Jesus -not letting sin reign in your body - by becoming aware of the evil desires you have -stop offering your body as an instrument of wickedness, instead offer yourself to God -offer every part of yourself to Him as instrument of righteousness -Sin is no longer your master because you are under grace, not the law... -there needs to be some discussion of spiritual formation - helping people to realize that there can be a change in your spiritual state that does not affect your body - the habits you've cultivated to survive in a fallen world. All of your struggle in the Christian life will come from leaving this muscle memory untouched. You grew up in a world where you had to learn to fight and struggle for yourself, in a world that was inexorably tied to self-preservation and self-orientation. -you have now entered into a world where you must trust God to have your well being as His primary concern and your primary concern becomes His will in the world.. (think of Deut 8:3 - He humbled you by letting you go hungry. Then he provided you with mana to eat so that you might learn that man does not live on bread alone but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.) -Baptizo - baptize, dip in or under water; immerse. -Baptism - is it because of the drowning that it symbolizes Death? -About Judaism & baptism (Mikvah) (https://www.chabad.org/theJewishWoman/article_cdo/aid/1541/jewish/The-Mikvah.htm) The Midrash relates that after being banished from Eden, Adam sat in a river that flowed from the garden. This was an integral part of his teshuvah (repentance) process, of his attempt at return to his original perfection. Before the revelation at Sinai, all Jews were commanded to immerse themselves in preparation for coming face to face with G‑d.In the desert, the famed “well of Miriam” served as a mikvah. And Aaron and his sons' induction into the priesthood was marked by immersion in the mikvah. In Temple times, the priests as well as each Jew who wished entry into the House of G‑d had first to immerse in a mikvah. On Yom Kippur, the holiest of all days, the High Priest was allowed entrance into the Holy of Holies, the innermost chamber of the Temple, into which no other mortal could enter. This was the zenith of a day that involved an ascending order of services, each of which was preceded by immersion in the mikvah. The primary uses of mikvah today are delineated in Jewish law and date back to the dawn of Jewish history. They cover many elements of Jewish life. Mikvah is an integral part of conversion to Judaism. It is used, though less widely known, for the immersion of new pots, dishes and utensils before they are utilized by a Jew. The mikvah concept is also the focal point of the taharah, the purification rite of a Jew before the person is laid to rest and the soul ascends on high. The manual pouring of water in a highly specific manner over the entire body of the deceased serves this purpose.Mikvah is also used by men on various occasions; with the exception of conversion, they are all customary. The most widely practiced are immersion by a groom on his wedding day and by every man before Yom Kippur. Many Chassidic men use the mikvah before each Shabbat and holiday, some even making use of mikvah each day before morning prayer (in cities with large populations of observant Jews, special mikvahs for men facilitate these customs). But the most important and general usage of mikvah is for purification by the menstruant woman. For the menstruant woman, immersion in a mikvah is part of a larger framework best known as Taharat Hamishpachah (Family Purity). As with every area of Jewish practice, Family Purity involves a set of detailed laws; namely, the “when” “what” and “how” of observance.Men or women in Temple times, who were precluded from services because of ritual defilement, could, after immersion, alight the Temple Mount, enter the House of G‑d and involve themselves in sacrificial offerings and the like. The case of the convert is most dramatic. The individual who descends into the mikvah as a gentile emerges from beneath its waters as a Jew. -The Jewish people prescribe that a Mikvah must be from living water - water that is of natural origin. Interesting to think that Jesus IS the living water - he offers it and says it will come out of you... Living water comes from God - He is the origin of living water itself. So, for Jesus to say living water will come out of you, He is saying that He is the origin of living water

In the presence of all the people, she told why she had touched him and how she had been instantly healed. 48 Then he said to her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace.” 49 While       Mark 9:38 “Teacher,” said John, “we saw someone driving out demons in your name and we told him to stop, because he was not one of us.” 39 “Do not stop him,” Jesus said. “For no one who does a miracle in my name can in the next moment say anything bad about me, 40 for whoever is not against us is for us. 41 Truly I tell you, anyone who gives you a cup of water in my name because you belong to the Messiah will certainly not lose their reward.   Do you have enough KNOW to just not worry about believing or having enough faith?    What do I mean?  In these stories, we see a woman who thought she knew that if she touched Jesus garment it would be enough to heal her. Listen… Jesus didn't set aside faith for this woman. He didn't parcel a piece of faith incase someone touched him. HE DIDN'T EVEN KN0W WHO TOUCHED HIM… I have to believe in Christ humanity here that he really didn't know who touched him… so he asks. But what does that mean… it means this woman simply pulled that healing out of Jesus. She just simply thought in her head if I have enough faith to touch his garment I will be healed. You realize after this happened Mark notes that many people after that pushed in to touch Jesus believing to be healed. Jesus did not grant this healing… she took it through her faith. She just knew.   The man casting out demons… he was not a disciple. When the disciples went out and cast demons it said that Christ gave them the power to do so. This man did not attempt to cast out demons… it says he WAS CASTING OUT DEMONS. Where did he get his power, his anointing his call, his discipleship papers…. He had none… he simply knew he could do it in the name of Jesus.   I think maybe today we put to much emphasis on trying to conjure up enough faith… and maybe we just need to believe or know - even without great emotion… and just act~

To Know Him and to Make Him Known | Water Walkers Will Make Him Known Matthew 14:22-33 (NLT) A Stand Alone Message | Mick Veach | lead pastor | first aired on 09.26.2021 Introduction Read Scripture 22 Immediately after this, Jesus insisted that his disciples get back into the boat and cross to the other side of the lake, while he sent the people home. 23 After sending them home, he went up into the hills by himself to pray. Night fell while he was there alone. 24 Meanwhile, the disciples were in trouble far away from land, for a strong wind had risen, and they were fighting heavy waves. 25 About three o'clock in the morning Jesus came toward them, walking on the water. 26 When the disciples saw him walking on the water, they were terrified. In their fear, they cried out, “It's a ghost!” 27 But Jesus spoke to them at once. “Don't be afraid,” he said. “Take courage. I am here!” 28 Then Peter called to him, “Lord, if it's really you, tell me to come to you, walking on the water.” 29 “Yes, come,” Jesus said. So Peter went over the side of the boat and walked on the water toward Jesus. 30 But when he saw the strong wind and the waves, he was terrified and began to sink. “Save me, Lord!” he shouted. 31 Jesus immediately reached out and grabbed him. “You have so little faith,” Jesus said. “Why did you doubt me?” 32 When they climbed back into the boat, the wind stopped. 33 Then the disciples worshiped him. “You really are the Son of God!” they exclaimed. —Matthew 14:22-33 1 ) Let's look at Peter for a moment Not polished—Raw passion Talks too quickly—Doesn't think thru Bold—Strong personality One moment victorious, the next messes up Probably not the one anyone would choose 2 ) Peter was always in the middle of it: “Don't tell people you are going to die” “You are the Christ” “Jesus let's stay up here and build a shelter” “If they all run, I'll die for you” “Not just my fee, wash all of me” 3 ) Peter was a water walker but was not PERFECT, his passion to be with Jesus pushed him to areas he would otherwise never go 4 ) Overview of the Text Only Peter walked on the water Question—What if they had all gotten out of the boat? Jesus would have welcomed them They would have had the greatest dance on the water as group Problem The disciples saw the waves Peter saw Jesus The boat calls your name You were not created for the boat Comfort No Sacrifice The majority of believers live in the boat (church, family) Water Walkers make Jesus known because their lives are passion about Him You were created to be a water walker A desire for Jesus above all else—Focused Desire to please Him above else—Gal.1—not after pleasing people Have the same heart as Jesus—the NATIONS—Mathew 24:14 We must begin to live in the supernatural—signs and wonders— “Expect great things from God, attempt great things from God” Water Walkers have Three Essential Actions I. Engage Jesus Continuously A. Verses 28 — Peter shouts out Lord have me come to you Lord It is more about being with Jesus than the miracle B. Biblical Verses that call us to engage James 4:8 Jeremiah 29:13 Hosea 6:6 C. Pete was always engaging Jesus Healing-Deliverances Transfiguration Miracles Teachings D. This all led to his ultimate experience becoming the one and only water walker with Jesus Without engagement to Jesus, you will never become a water walker E. Peter was transformed in that moment, water walkers make Jesus known and have distinct characteristics Water walkers love until it hurts—I John 3:17-18 a. Once you engage Jesus, you will engage people and truly love them b. It becomes messy and demands from you c. Personal example—My protective layers because of Tahir and Tyrone d. Mel loves people that no one wants to love Water walkers pray prayers that make you sweat—Mathew 7:7-8 Water walkers see sacrifice as a privilege—Phil 1:21 a. Pick up your cross and follow me b. Radical obedience F. We must decide if we truly love Jesus and once that occurs we must engage him regardless of what that looks like Key Point — Water walkers engage Jesus continuously II. Listen Carefully for Jesus' Voice A. Verse 29 — Jesus said, yes come… and Peter heard him There were so many distractions screaming at Peter at that moment: a. Disciples b. Waves, wind and rain c. Death d. Boat Yet Peter move through the distractions and heard Jesus' voice Do you hear Jesus? Biblical Texts that demand that we listen a. James 1 — Be quick to listen b. Psalm 46:10 — Be still and Know … Jesus is speaking but are you listening? He speaks through a. Scripture b. Events c. Worship d. People e. Prayer f. Holy Spirit is the leader of all this B. We make excuses when He speaks Moses said he stuttered Isaiah said he had unclean lips Jeremiah said he was too young C. We miss so much simply because we are not listening We live so far below what He wants for us Spiritual Paupers D. We must make time to listen E. Personal examples of my listening and how it has enabled me to make him Known Go to Azerbaijan Mosaic KCC F. He is speaking to you today are you listening KCC let's get out of the boat Let's engage our neighbors and community Let's invite people to church Let's serve on various teams from KCC a. International fellowship b. Woodfield c. Friendship House d. Hand2Hand e. Streams of Hope Key Point—Water walkers LISTEN and hear Jesus call to them III. Risk without Fear for Jesus A. Verse 29 — So Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water You can't walk on water until you get out of the boat. You can plan it or talk it to death, you must do it Peter was willing to do what no one had ever done before B. Question — what enabled Peter to do the impossible? His eyes were fixed on Jesus Peter was willing to die He did lose his focus and sink but he was the only one to experience the miraculous C. Biblical examples of those who were willing to risk Numbers 13 — Joshua and Caleb Gideon with the 300 D. Remember it is not until you willing to die for something until you can truly live for it E. Peter knew Jesus as Lord so risk is possible not just Rabbi F. Water walkers will dream and risk while others stay in the boat KCC, we need to begin to risk and trust Jesus Never stay comfortable, walk on water G. We must risk in such a way that with us it is impossible but with Him it is possible I can't—He can H. Matthew 6 — Jesus said don't worry about your life … I. Peter was the rock that the church was built because he was willing to risk … Key Point—The world is waiting for a man or woman to live radically secure in Jesus and thus risk it all for Him Call to Action: 1. Decide to get out of the boat 2. Listen—Jesus wants you to make him known, do it 3. Don't play it — risk it all for Jesus, abundant life begins now

The ancient prophecy tells us to be prepared for Jesus's return, to be prepared for the imminent judgement and keep the apostolic reminder to be vigilant and alert of the ungodliness that is lurking.     Connect with us through social media at http://tiny.cc/sibklchurch and visit us at www.sibkl.org.my

Executive Producer Steve Webb This episode is brought to you in part by Executive Producer, John Anonymous. Today's Bible Translation Bible translation used in today's episode: Ch.13 NKJV, Ch. 14-15 ESV Support Please remember that this is a listener supported show. Your support of any amount is needed and very much appreciated. Find out how by clicking here. Thoughts Well, this was fun reading today, wasn’t it? How about no? I’m not going to go into any detail in my comments today. Not because I don’t think there is anything of value here, but because I personally find the find the details on how to deal with leprosy and bodily discharges somewhat distasteful for discussion on this podcast. It’s  not that I can’t handle this kind of subject matter. I have a degree in biology, and I worked in three different emergency medical fields for some time many years ago. I’ve seen a lot of gross stuff. I just don’t want to discuss the details here. I will say, though, that the Hebrew word that is translated as “leprosy” in our Bibles today that could include a variety of different skin diseases, such as psoriasis or ringworm, including what is known  today as “Hansen’s disease”, commonly called leprosy. In addition, there are some diseases that at first manifest themselves on the skin, but are not strictly skin diseases, such as smallpox and measles. Something else I will comment on in a general sense is in regards to quarantine. Note that even though true leprosy is a horrible disease that ultimately causes death, quarantine was reserved for the person with the disease. The healthy population was not quarantined. Only the person suspected of having the disease was locked down.  I would like to share a bit with you from Leviticus 14:1-7 because it sounds a bit strange upon first blush.  Let’s read it again: 1The Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 2“This shall be the law of the leprous person for the day of his cleansing. He shall be brought to the priest, 3and the priest shall go out of the camp, and the priest shall look. Then, if the case of leprous disease is healed in the leprous person, 4the priest shall command them to take for him who is to be cleansed two live clean birds and cedarwood and scarlet yarn and hyssop. 5And the priest shall command them to kill one of the birds in an earthenware vessel over fresh water. 6He shall take the live bird with the cedarwood and the scarlet yarn and the hyssop, and dip them and the live bird in the blood of the bird that was killed over the fresh water. 7And he shall sprinkle it seven times on him who is to be cleansed of the leprous disease. Then he shall pronounce him clean and shall let the living bird go into the open field.Leviticus 14:1-7 ESV Now you might wonder what this ritual has to do with anything. It sort of seems a bit random, doesn’t it? But it’s not.  Leprosy is thought by many to be a representation of sin. It begins with almost no visible symptoms and is painless in the early stages. It grows slowly. Sometimes it seems to go away, then comes back. The affected area becomes numb. It causes decay and deforms the person, to the point where they become repulsive. Eventually, the victim dies. So, this ritual has to do with the cleansing of the leper. Listen to this: In summarizing the ritual here is what happens: It happens outside of the campA being from the heavens is sacrificed in an earthen vesselAs the being is killed, it is cleansed by the fresh waterThe death, which is associated with blood and water, is applied to the leper seven times (the number of perfection, or completeness) in connection with a living birdThe sacrificial blood is also applied to scarlet yarn and a piece of wood, along with hyssopWith the mark of the sacrifice, the living bird flies away, ascending to the heavens and out of sight. Are you getting the illustration, yet? Listen: Jesus was sacrificed outside the camp (Hebrews 13:11-13)He wa...

He would not go about in Judea, because the Jews were seeking to kill him. 2 Now the Jews' Feast of Booths was at hand. 3 So his brothers said to him, “Leave here and go to Judea, that your disciples also may see the works you are doing. 4 For no one works in secret if he seeks to be known openly. If you do these things, show yourself to the world.” 5 For not even his brothers believed in him. 6 Jesus said to them, “My time has not yet come, but your time is always here.7 The world cannot hate you, but it hates me because I testify about it that its works are evil. 8 You go up to the feast. I am not going up to this feast, for my time has not yet fully come.” 9 After saying this, he remained in Galilee.10 But after his brothers had gone up to the feast, then he also went up, not publicly but in private. 11 The Jews were looking for him at the feast, and saying, “Where is he?” 12 And there was much muttering about him among the people. While some said, “He is a good man,” others said, “No, he is leading the people astray.” 13 Yet for fear of the Jews no one spoke openly of him. A question was asked by Jesus to two blind men as they found their way into the house that Jesus had entered into. Do you believe that I am able to do this. Do what you might ask, do anything that is impossible to man. Listen Jesus is looking for you to agree with his capabilities. I have a question "Do You Believe"?

Joe Prainito Audio Devotional

We've all had to pose for a picture at one time or another; a wedding photo, a school photo, a mugshot-well hopefully not a mugshot but I think you get the idea. We strike our best pose, and let out our best smile, showing our best side, hoping that the camera will magnify our best facial qualities, while hiding the pimple we woke up with or that cracked tooth that whistles every time we speak. We take these pictures so that we can remember the event or the date. And there's no doubt that we want to look our best so we can remember how good we appeared as well. But let me ask you, in the midst of always trying to look good, smile beautifully, and hide our facial insecurities, have we neglected the most important part of our appearance? Have we forgotten that Jesus wants to take on the main appearance in our life? Colossians 3:1 If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above where Christ is sitting at the right hand of God. Set your minds on the things above, not on the things of the earth. For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory. Listen Jesus wants to appear in you and I. He wants to be the one who shines through us. Jesus wants His love to shine brighter than our teeth and our highlights. Jesus wants to be bigger than our hair and our muscles. Jesus wants to appear in us whether we're asleep or awake, rich or poor, sick or healthy, and the good news is that His appearance will never fade. I encourage you, next time your looking in the mirror preparing for your families photo time, remember the one who wants to take center stage in your life, and ask yourself, "Is Jesus appearing in me today?" I say it all the time, maybe even too often, I love Peter from the Bible. Maybe the reason I love him so much is because I often wonder to myself how God could want or use someone as emotional, over analytical, or messed up as me, and then I think….Oh yeah, Peter. You have to wonder if anyone wanted to run up to Jesus after He chose Peter and give him a little disclaimer on the guy. “Listen Jesus, just so you know, you might want to rethink your choice there with Peter. He is a bit of a loose cannon, pretty bossy, thinks he is way smarter than he is, always speaks before he thinks and an overall flight risk.I also have to wonder if Jesus might have responded by walking away with a half smile on his face thinking, “perfect”. Jesus didn’t choose Peter because he was perfect but because he was willing, He knew this man had a heart that would be willing to surrender again and again to Him.Peter went on to betray Jesus and weep over his grief and lack. Why did Jesus allow this? Why does He allow it in our lives? I would propose that it is because He has to allow us to understand where our strength ends, even in our best intentions, and where His begins.Jesus restores Peter on the beach not by reprimanding him or guilt him but by asking him a question, one He asks us as well, “Do you love me?”This is the only thing that really matters. Even when we fail and walk through cleansing and sifting Jesus chose us because He knew what our hearts would answer, “YES!” His response, “feed my sheep!”After Jesus’ resurrection and the Holy Spirit came, Peter was never referred to as Simon again. He was made new.Do it for us too Lord! Restore our hearts, set us on fire for you, let us run wildly in love with you as we go to feed your sheep!SOW NOTEShttps://www.ashleymorganjackson.com/podcast/2019/9/5/podcast-ep5-identity-the-lord-knew-who-he-was-getting-when-he-chose-youCALLED TO BUILD FB COMMUNITY: https://www.facebook.com/groups/calledtobuildcommunity/CALLED TO BUILD INSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/calledtobuild/FREE "WHAT AM I CALLED TO?"
