[ For full episode catalogue please subscribe to our Patreon at Patreon.com/BestActress ] The year is 1970 and the nominees are: 1. Maggie Smith - The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie 2. Genevieve Bujold - Anne of the Thousand Days 3. Jane Fonda - They Shoot Horses, Don't They? 4. Liza Minnelli - The Sterile Cuckoo 5. Jean Simmons - The Happy Ending - In 1970 Maggie Smith won her first of two Oscars for The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie. Smith plays an eccentric schoolteacher in a conservative school during the 1930's in Edinburgh, Scotland. She had won the BAFTA for Best Lead Actress but odds on favourite at the Oscars was Jane Fonda in They Shoot Horses, Don't They. Many speculated she (Fonda) lost this Oscar due to an arrest on Fort Hood military reservation as well as rumours of drug use and adultery had cost her the award. Remember! It was the late 1960's/70's. However Smith delivers an amazing performance in TPOMJB. Liza Minnelli became a first time nominee in The Sterile Cuckoo. A role Judy Garland urged her not to play worried it would make her seem unattractive. I don't agree! Pookie (the character Minnelli plays) is obnoxiously charming! Genevieve Bujold plays Anne Boleyn in Anne of the Thousand Days. A fantastic performance and I would recommend if you enjoy period pieces. Finally, Jean Simmons was nominated for The Happy Ending - a hilarious camp film about a woman who walks out on her family (inexplicably) and struggles with drug and alcohol addiction. Join host Kyle Brownrigg with guest host Luke McFarlane as they discuss.
Megan and Wendy are Girls Gone Hallmark. Listen in as they review and rate "A Magical Christmas Village" starring Alison Sweeney and Luke Mcfarlane. This movie premiered on November 4, 2022 as part of Hallmark Channel's Countdown to Christmas. What do you think of Wendy's alternate ending? - Email the show at meganandwendy@gmail.com. Girls Gone Hallmark is a Hallmark Channel movie podcast hosted by Megan and Wendy. Each week they recap, review and rate new original movies. This week, Girls Gone Hallmark reviews "A Magical Christmas Village" starring Ali Sweeney and Luke Macfarlane. Hallmark Channel News and Notes Peacock started streaming Hallmark Channel movies on Wednesday, November 2, 2022. Pros/Cons: Pro: Front loads the movie with commercials (approximately 145 seconds), never another commercial throughout the movie. Not sure about commercials during "live streaming" but would assume the same commercials air as seen on the Hallmark Channel. Con: New movies are only on demand for a very limited amount of time. News and Notes for "A Magical Christmas Village" Melissa Salmons wrote the screenplay for "A Magical Christmas Village." She has 13 writing credits per IMDB including “Christmas at Holly Lodge,” “The Irresistible Blueberry Farm,” and “Murder She Baked” all starring Ali Sweeney. She also wrote 114 episodes of Days of Our Lives from 2012-2016 - guessing some of those also included Ali Sweeney. Ali Sweeney stars as Summer in this film. Signed a multi picture deal with Hallmark back in September. Luke Macfarlane plays Ryan. This was his 14th movie for Hallmark. As we all know, he told the LA Times earlier this year that this movie would likely be his last for the network. Was Macfarlane throwing shade in this People Magazine article? Macfarlane's “BROS” is now available to rent online via Amazon. Rolling Stone reported that it will likely be free to stream on Peacock in the next few weeks. According to IMDB, Macfarlane will next star in the comedy “Platonic” on AppleTV, also starring Rose Byrne and Seth Rogan. Marlo Thomas has 54 acting credits. She was last seen in 2018's “Oceans 8.” Of course we also know her as a fundraising force for St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital. Fun fact: do you know she played Rachel's mom on “Friends?” Maesa Nicholson plays daughter Chloe. She has 3 acting credits on IMDB all from Hallmark Channel and all from 2022 including “North to Home” and “Curious Caterer: Dying for Chocolate.” This was filmed in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

This week, we review the last two of the four new Hallmark Christmas movies titled Santa Stakeout starring Tamera Mowry and Paul Campbell as well as Christmas in my Heart starring Luke McFarlane and Heather Hemmens. Both of these movies were great for their own reasons. Santa Stakeout was unique in its comedy and chemistry between the actors. The storyline was different for Hallmark and it definitely highlighted Tamera and Paul's comedic chops. If there was one movie no one ever thought Hallmark would make during the old regime, it would definitely be Christmas in my Heart. I mean, black girl hair, cornrows and box braids, discrimination, racial differences, etc. Never in my life did I think this movie would come from Hallmark, and it is definitely because Wonya Lucas is CEO
Happy fa la la la holidays everyone!! For the next nine weeks, I'll be watching ALL the Christmas TV movies and reviewing them, helping you binge the good ones and cringe at the bad ones. This week to kick off the holiday season there's 4 Hallmark movies to talk about. Earning a solid 4/5 stars to kick it off was You, Me, and the Christmas Trees with two of Hallmark's big names, Danica McKellar and Benjamin Ayres. Cringe and skip Boyfriends of Christmas Past, but DEFINITELY binge Tamara Mowry-Housley and Paul Campbells's The Santa Stakeout! Lastly over on Hallmark Movies and Mysteries, do not miss out on Christmas In My Heart featuring Heather Hemmens and Luke McFarlane. One movie and I was already crying. If you don't have cable, you can find all the Hallmark movies on the FrndlyTV app (seriously, this isn't sponsored but that app is amazing and please FrndlyTV sponsor me). In this week's podcast, I get to interview Valen Ahlo, a co-star of the most recent Hallmark Movie titled You Had me at Aloha. He's a local Hawaiian actor. This episode features Taking A Shot At Love starring Alexa Pena Vega and Luke McFarlane. It's the 2nd in our Swoon In June series and boy, we scored a goal with this one! Tamara and Corinne swoon over Luke McFarlane, his dreamy gaze, his impeccable eyelashes (does that boy use Latisse?) and his uncanny resemblance to Flynn Rider from the movie Tangled. We also explore hygge life and whether or not it's a fire hazard to sleep with thousands of candles around you in Hallmark Town. We hope you take a shot with us (not in the alcohol way... unless you're into that) and listen to this episode.
This week, I get to review the newest Hallmark movie, the first of the Summer Nights series, titled "You had me at Aloha" starring Pascale Hutton and Kavan Smith. This was the first movie filmed in my home state Hawaii. I talk about the meaning of aloha, how the movie exemplifies the word, not just in the title but also in the storytelling. We unravel the truths in Ben and Paige, exalt the wardrobe, use of local talent and the beauty of the islands. I get to rant a little about the mispronunciation of Hawai'i. Lol. But this was a good movie. I liked it. I gave it three stars and am hopeful Hallmark will be back again. This week Hallmark has no new movies again. So it's another week of LIsteners' Choice. This week I am reviewing 2020's Hallmark Channel movie "Nature in Love" starring Emilie Ullerup and Christopher Russell. On this podcast, we talk about importance of conservation, power of 2000 words, and lessons sprinkled throughout the movie, especially the power of silence and noise. There's a lot of praise for this movie and well deserved. It's no wonder it is a fan favorite. The chemistry between Christopher and Emilie is palpable. There are strong performances from the supporting characters. The storyline is simple and easy to follow. Also who can complain about the beautiful scenery. This week Hallmark has no new movies so I polled our supporters and listeners on IG and Facebook. The listeners' choice was 2019's Hallmark Hall of Fame Presentation "Love Takes Flight" starring Nikki Deloach and Jeff Hephner. On this podcast, we review the special friendship between a widower and a little girl and how four characters helped each other heal through a broken heart and grief. There's a lot of praise for this movie and well deserved. I love the stunt flying, a little scary to watch. The writing was superb. I love that the main couple wasn't a romantic storyline but a friendship between Walter and Quinn. We got to watch healing and forgiveness and love unfold in less than 2 hours. Awesome movie. This week I was joined by special co-host Charlie Fields, host of Thirsty for Hallmark Podcast. We review the newest Hallmark movie titled "Sweet Carolina" starring Lacey Chabert and Tyler Hynes. It is Lacey's 26th Hallmark movie and first project ever that she created and produced from the beginning. This movie is different from the usual Hallmark fare. Instead of a rom-com, this movie explores the story of a family going through the grieving process after losing a sister, a mother, and a daughter. Each character went through their process of grief and we follow Josie's journey as she steps in as the legal guardian for her niece and nephew. We both love this movie, but biggest complaint was that the ending just didn't go with the rest of the movie. You can listen to the podcasts in all platforms.
