Les, Kurt, and Jason finally start the show on their fourth try only to immediately get sidetracked talking about Haley Joel Osment's arrest and Jason's VERY unpopular opinions about The Breakfast Club. Then Kurt reveals that he's made some progress with his quest to get Natalia Grace on the show (something Les is fully onboard with, too). In Blac Chyna news, Tokio Toni really just wants to make some beats, so she opens up her home and it doesn't end well. Then, it's time to set the table for Hallmark's Hearts Around the Table: Kiki's Fourth Ingredient, a movie which doesn't feature Edith from All and the Family or Weezie from the Jeffersons but does feature Natalie from The Facts of Life (Mindy Cohn). Have yourself a snack, whether that's Kurt's Tater Tot Casserole, some disgusting chocolate zucchini muffins, or some popcorn immediately after giving yourself a manicure. Episode 315: “Everything I Ever Learned About TV Writing, I Learned From ‘The Facts Of Life' | Anupam Nigam”The Facts of Learning about Television Writing from The Facts of LifeThe Golden Girls of Eastland: TV Writer Anupam Nigam Shares His Lessons from The Facts Of LifeThe Golden Girls of Eastland: Top Lessons TV Writer Anupam Nigam Learned from The Facts Of Life For some people, a childhood spent lounging in front of the television leads to nothing but being sent to bed when Law and Order license plate comes on. But for Anupam Nigam, it led to a lifelong love of television – – and a successful career in TV writing and producing. And his favorite show of all? The Facts of Life! The Facts of Life was a spin-off of Diff'rent Strokes and aired on NBC from 1979-1988. The show starred Charlotte Rae as Eastland School for Girls housemother Edna Garrett watching over an evolving cast of young female stars including Kim Fields, Mindy Cohn, Nancy McKeon and a very young Molly Ringwald! It ran for more than 200 episodes, and spawned three TV movies. Anupam Nigam has written and produced episodes of hit TV shows like Psych, Defiance, Cruel Summer, Mech-X4 and Station 19. He is currently writer and co-executive producer of the hit CBS drama Fire Country. Susan and Sharon talk with Anupam about his childhood as an Indian American kid in New Jersey, his early love of television, the insight of The Facts of Life -- and the facts he learned that have stayed with him to this day. THE CONVERSATIONGROWING UP INDIAN -- IN NEW JERSEY: For Anupam, who was raised in an immigrant Indian household, television was a window into the wider world of “American” families - and how they were alike, and different from, his.“I'M NOT A DOCTOR, BUT I WRITE FOR THEM ON TV” -- Anupam was pre-med, a lab researcher, and even a certified EMT -- briefly -- before realizing that TV blood was more his style.Anupam's first script was a spec episode of Star Trek: Voyager -- and after that he was hooked.Anupam's “scientist mind” cracked the code on how to write a Law & Order script, and it led to a coveted spot in the Warner Bros Writers Program -- and then a big move to Hollywood! His first job was on The Division -- starring Facts of Life's Nancy McKeon!YOU TAKE THE GOOD, YOU TAKE THE VERY, VERY BAD: Anupam actually learned about the facts of life from the many “very special” episodes The Facts of Life: Abortion, divorce, drug abuse and death, anyone?Natalie was a natural STAR - When Charlotte Rae toured Westlake School for research, her young tour guide was… Mindy Cohn. Charlotte insisted the producers meet her and the role of Natalie was created for her! Those roller-skates? Tootie had to wear them to make her taller!CHEAPER BY THE… TEN? The original first season cast had TEN main characters - The seven girls, Mrs. Garett (Charlotte Rae), teacher Emily Mahoney (Jenny O'Hara) and Headmaster Stephen Bradley (played by John Lawlor). The OG Eastlake students: Blair Warner (Lisa Whelchel), Nancy Olsen (Felice Schachter), Sue Anne Weaver (Julie Piekarski), Tootie Ramsey (Kim Fields), Molly Parker (Molly Ringwald), Cindy Webster (Julie Anne Haddock) and Natalie Green (Mindy Cohn).…AND THEN THERE WERE FOUR. After season one, the young cast was cut from seven girls down to the “Core Four”: Lisa Whelchel as Blair, Kim Fields as Tootie, Mindy Cohn as Natalie and bringing on newcomer Nancy McKeon as Jo Polniaczek. So, join Susan and Sharon -- and Anupam! -- as they talk Shondaland, The Golden Girls, shoulder pads, tea-time, Jermaine Jackson, Mech x4, Geri Jewel, Entertainment Weekly -- and “Who Shot J.R?”! Comedian Jen Kober always knew why she felt an affinity with Mindy Cohn's Natalie on The Facts of Life. Natalie was the rare bigger girl on TV in the 1980s, and yet that wasn't a huge part of her character -- she was smart, goofy, and beloved by her friends. As for Jodie Foster's tomboy teen in the original Freaky Friday movie? Sure, it was good to see a rough-housing girl at odds with her mom for not being girly enough. But there was just something else about young Jodie Foster that made sense... Presented with our apologies to any emotionally intelligent men out there ;) The Jordan has one quick thing about the new trailer for Y2KJen's special is called 'No Flies on Me,' From 800 Pound Gorilla Media. Orlando Actors David Almeida & Matthew Arter are still taking a little breather from their analysis of “The Facts Of Life.” In This Week's Betwixtisode: We return to answer more of the 20 questions posed by (the wonderful!) Mindy Cohn to her guests on her podcast, Mondays With Mindy.
Episode 84 and Wendi and Dfernando's guest interview is actress and producer Mindy Cohn. Mindy Cohn was just another student at Westlake School for Girls in Holmby Hills, California when actress Charlotte Rae discovered her while she, the legendary Norman Lear, and the producers of a new NBC sitcom THE FACTS OF LIFE were touring the school as research. Mindy was cast as Natalie Green and portrayed the character for the entire 9 Season run of the series: 1979 to 1988, as well as the few NBC TV Movie Specials.Mindy continued her acting career outside of THE FACTS OF LIFE. In 1984 she had a leading role as Stockard Channing's daughter in TABLE SETTINGS. In 1986, she appeared in THE BOY WHO COULD FLY as next-door neighbor Geneva and in 2010 as the lead character Violet in Casper Andreas' VIOLET TENDENCIES.On television, Mindy had guest appearances in other popular TV shows, including CHARLES IN CHARGE (playing Buddy's sister Bunny, a young alcoholic in the 1988 episode "Bottle Baby"), and two guest appearances in Season 2 of the cop drama 21 JUMP STREET (playing Rosa in the 1987 episode "Christmas In Saigon" and the 1988 episode "Chapel of Love"). In 2004 Mindy appeared as Maggie in the WB comedy THE HELP, and appeared on the Season 8 premiere of TLC's WHAT NOT TO WEAR. She has also appeared on HOT IN CLEVELAND, THE SECRET LIFE OF AN AMERICAN TEENAGER, THE MIDDLE, and was the voice of Velma Dinkley in the SCOOBY DOO franchise from 2002 to 2015.Mindy will be seen in the upcoming APPLE TV+ series DELACORT, opposite Kristen Wiig, Allison Janney, Laura Dern, and Ricky Martin.A strong supporter of the LGBTQ community, she has a degree in Cultural Anthropology from Loyola Marymount University, and is a founding member of the weSpark Cancer Support Center.Click here to watch Mindy's LIVE COMEDY STORYTELLING: What Happens in Vancouver, which Wendi references during the interview. Happy Cornucopia Day to yous! In honor of this troubled holiday falling on a Thursday we are releasing a special (just us) episode on a Tuesday. This week we are really running the gamut, serving our deranged mindgrapes on a platter for you: JoJo Siwa's coming into her sexuality on Dancing with the Stars, Natalie Wood's sister Lana all but confirming Anne's belief that Kirk Douglas raped a young Natalie, and a deep dive on one of our go-to warm-blanket films, Clueless. We breakdown director Amy Heckerling's 1995 comedy classic: from Amy's IRL dalliances, the tragic loss of Brittany Murphy, Twink Caplan making bank from her AP credit (we allege!), and Julie Brown repping for the queers. Plus, we top this totally chaotic episode off with a little clip from our sitdown with The Facts of Life star Mindy Cohn talking about that infamous first season and all the “lost girls” that were fired before they had a chance at season 2! We hope you enjoy! We love Templeton from Charlotte's Web (“Smorgasbord” sang by Paul Lynde in the cartoon movie) JoJo Siwa is having a gay evolution on Dancing with the Stars JoJo doing “Body Language” (Queen), “Feedback” (Janet Jackson) Lana Wood has announced that Kirk Douglas raped Natalie Wood Kirk Douglas honored by Golden Globes with the Cecil B Demille Award in 2018, the year of #MeToo Michael Douglas says “may they both rest in peace.” This December is all about Natalie Wood (Miracle on 34th Street, West Side Story) Marni Nixon was the singing voice of Natalie Wood in West Side Story (her original audio can be heard here) This LOST VOCALS youtube page is incredible Bob and Carol and Ted and Alice (other woman was Dyan Cannon) Elliot Gould was sexy Mindy Sterling could've been up for Miss Geist (famous for playing Frau Farbissina) The Chris Kattan Amy Heckerling fiasco (Kattan also dated Jennifer Coolidge for a long time) Amy Sherman Palladino is the poor woman's steampunk Amy Heckerling (Heckerling by way of Linda Perry) Heckerling dated Bronson Pinchot for a long time Bronson Pinchot in Putting it Together on Broadway with Carol Burnett Swing Revival in the mid to late 90s Peach Pit After Dark Dan Hedaya is a man that Anne loves Hedaya was on the The TORTELLIS (not the “Tarantellis” as we said on the ep) the Cheers spinoff with previous guest of the show, Mandy Ingber, ep #26 Donald Faison chose to have Murray have braces because his teeth were so small He's married to Jessica Simpson's former assistant, CaCee Cobb Brittany Murphy's “I'll Never Tell” in the Michael Douglas movie Don't Say a Word Murphy sang in Happy Feet Was the featured vocalist in Paul Oakenfold's club track, “Faster Kill Pussycat” There's an HBO doc about Murphy: What Happened Brittany Murphy Was on Broadway in A View from the Bridge with Allison Janney and Anthony LaPaglia Jamie Walters was Ray Pruitt on the original 90210 Clueless the Musical with Dove Cameron as Cher “The Lost Girls” of The Facts of Life

Please turn off your cellphones, gang, and climb into the Mystery Machine as we head out to crack some cases wide open, uncover a decades old plot, and celebrate the 51st anniversary of animation's greatest mystery solving quintet in a remarkably fresh new style! For our 48th Commentary, we head back to the good ol days of 2010 for the first 4 episodes of this instant classic series starring the legendary Frank Welker, the character defining Mindy Cohn, the brilliant Grey DeLisle-Griffin, and the great Matthew Lillard (making his first turn in the place of an icon) as our titular gang, and they bring along franchise newcomers Gary Cole, & Patrick Warburton as their new supporting cast. We memorialize an incredible creative force in Scooby-Doo co-creator Joe Ruby before Doom gets oddly deep and reflective, then walks Fitz through the opening 4 chapters of one of, if not, the most ballsy and risk taking shows in the entire Scooby library all the while forgetting how old they are yet again. Expect filthy jokes aplenty, gang, because as you may have noticed, THE NERD BLITZ IS BACK, BABY!

My podcast episodes aren't usually very newsworthy or timely but this week is an exception. Just days after I recorded my interview with Mindy Cohn, news broke about the very thing we discussed-a Facts of Life reboot or reunion. It wasn't the main reason why I wanted to interview her but it came up in our conversation and what she told me was surprising. Apparently Leonardo DiCaprio and Jessica Biel's production companies have bought the rights to The Facts of Life. Mindy tells us exactly what happened when she and a prominent producer had the idea to reboot the show and took it to Sony. Days later, the rights to TFOL were no longer available and had been snatched up by Leo and Jessica. She explains it fully in this episode so it's definitely worth a listen to hear for yourself. People say I look a lot like Mindy. What do you think? Mindy and I met at the BGG Acting Studio several years ago and I was immediately drawn to her. Not just because people have compared me to her, several times, but because she's a natural mentor. She tells me that's because she was mentored by legends in the business and feels compelled to return the kindness. CREDIT: NBC-TV/KOBAL/REX/SHUTTERSTOCK One of her mentors was Charlotte Rae, who not only pushed for Mindy to get the part of Natalie on The Facts of Life, but took her under her wing as she came of age in Hollywood. Charlotte Rae passed away on Sunday, August 5th. We recorded this episode several days before which is why Mindy still talks as if she's alive. It's clear Charlotte Rae's legacy will live on through actors like Mindy, and so on and so on. THE FACTS OF LIFE -- Pictured: (l-r) Nancy McKeon as Joanne 'Jo' Polniaczek, Kim Fields as Dorothy 'Tootie' Ramsey, Lisa Whelchel as Blair Warner, Mindy Cohn as Natalie Green, Charlotte Rae as Edna Garrett -- Photo by: NBC/NBCU Photo Bank In addition, we also talked about why she still takes acting classes, her secret to longevity in this fickle industry, and where her heart is now. It's in a charity called Heifer International, an organization that works to end poverty around the world by empowering women and teaching sustainable farming. They have a big fundraiser coming up in October on the backlot of Universal Studios. To find out more information about the event and how you can help, visit www.heifer.org/LA. When I talk to Mindy I'm reminded of why I love this business. There are actors out there who aren't just trying to be famous. They have a love for the craft, and are a part of something that sometimes feels unattainable to me. I often feel like an outsider looking into the cool kids of Hollywood, just hoping someone will invite me in to the party. So until that happens, I'm going to keep gleaning all the wisdom I can from those willing to share, and then make my own party. Mindy Cohn (Facts of Life, Scooby-Doo) stops by the show this week and if you know anything about me it's that I'm a huge lifelong fan so you can only imagine how excited and nervous I was. Mindy did not disappoint. We talked about her unusual childhood—being discovered by Norman Lear, Alan Horn and Charlotte Rae when they were researching girls' schools to bring authenticity to Facts of Life, attending regular school while also working on the show, having "once in a lifetime experiences all the time," going "hog ass wild" when she was 17, the discrepancy between how she appears and how she feels inside, wanting to be a doctor at one point and eventually realizing she was already doing the thing she loved, realizing you don't have to be friends with someone just because they want to be friends with you, feeling drawn to alcoholics, drug addicts and narcissists, compulsive behaviors, anxiety, romance, reality shows, the movie she's currently shooting and so much more. We also took your questions over Twitter and did a round of Just Me Or Everyone. Also: a Facts of Life quiz!
Alison and Daniel are pretty sure they know what they're having. Plus the overwrought journal entry-reading continues this week with a couple soul-crushing pages from Alison's journal (Jenna's next week and then either Jeff or Greg again. We're keeping this going!), plus talk of exes, Janae's advice for making friends, Mindy Cohn-chat, advice to a young listener in love with her best friend, a round of Just Me Or Everyone and an adoptable dog named Adler.
In this very special episode, the one and only Mindy Cohn (The Facts of Life) shares the facts of her life, and how she meticulously produced her whole life, including her first time. Don't miss it!
Kornflake makes her triumphant return to Chickentown, just in time to teach us about unfrozen cavemen! (Was our favorite Facts of Life girl Mindy Cohn ever frozen in ice? Perhaps not, but it's a rumor we just sort of started.) Then Kevin reports on our final convention of the year, Super Megafest! Including: Hula hooping with Niki Luparelli, Barbapapa talk with Ken Reid, legendary comic book artist Ramona Fradon (Aquaman! Metamorpho! SUPER FRIENDS!), Ninja Turtle history with Kevin Eastman, quality Monkee time with Micky Dolenz, a Bionic reunion (with Lindsay Wagner and Lee Majors!), a Star Trek: The Next Generation reunion (with Deanna Troi, Tasha Yar, and Howling Mad Murdock!), a surprise detour to see Louis CK, a surprise hug from Debbie Gibson, and (of course) a Stormtrooper mermaid.
Mindy Cohn ("The Facts of Life," "Scooby-Doo") joins Cole and Vanessa to chat about Renee Zellweger, home phones, George Clooney, hover boards, Guardians of the Galaxy on cassette tape, Penelope Cruz, shooting in Paris and Australia, No Hook-Ups, following a crush on twitter, John Turturro, Velma's perfect day and getting discovered by Charlotte Rae. Leave your answer to the firsts questions (the first movie you can remember being embarrassed to be watching with your parents) on our website for a chance to win a comfy Pop My Culture T-Shirt!
Goodness knows that a true friend can leave whatever bodily functions they want on your bed. At least that’s what we solidified in our discussion of our latest BGM, a comedy with anger starring your favourite 80s television sitcom star. Join Bil, Michael and Daniel as they discuss Casper Andreas’ Violet Tendencies starring Mindy Cohn! […]
Kornflake attends a Wazzumhog party (not sure of the spelling on that - and AutoCorrect did NOT help); Kevin and a bunch of other comic book geeks invade the Norman Rockwell Museum for an Alex Ross exhibition; Kornflake prepares for Bad Movie Night, which hopefully will feature Mindy Cohn; we are freaked out by Pinchy the Split Lobster; and we present a Top 4 1/2 List of our favorite giants. (Why didn't Paul Bunyan make the list? Maybe because in reality, he stood just five feet tall. It's true. Check Snopes.)
Well, I’ll Be Goddamned! - #36 Join the Cream Puffs for another week of fun and debauchery as we discuss our favorite celebrities. Lindsay Lohan is trying to get the paparazzi to notice her again and they want none of it. Courtney Love cleaning up her image, it’s about damn time. Who’s Blanket’s daddy and who cares? Mindy Cohn is…wait Mindy Cohn!?
