Send us a textIn my effort to portray cruising in all its diversity, now for something completely different. This week The Joy of Cruising Podcast is delighted to welcome Cris Kostiuk, creator of Cris the Cruising Duck Man. Let me preface by saying that for the most part up until recently, I have been rather ambivalent toward the phenomenon of hiding and finding toy ducks on cruise ships. First of all, I assumed it would be a short-lived trend that would fade away. Wrong! Secondly, I kind of thought it was mainly for kids—and since I no longer have young children to cruise with I have “aged out” of the target clientele. Wrong again. Cruise ship ducks are very much a kids, and adults craze. The tide started to change for me in terms of paying a little more attention to cruise ship duck mania when I began to read about this duck trend in non-cruise media. Then I read a blog post by arguably the top cruise blogger/podcaster in the world, Matt Hochberg, of Royal Caribbean Blog that opened my eyes. In a blog whose title seemingly was directed at me, Hiding Ducks On A Cruise Ship Is A "Crazy" and Popular Trend - Whether You Like It Or Not https://www.royalcaribbeanblog.com/2024/09/05/cruising-ducks-how-to-hide, Matt shared some information that put to rest any notion of cruise duck mania being a passing fad. For instance, there is a cruising ducks Facebook group that is approaching 300k members. And, Matt's blog mentioned today's guest. What moved me to a podcast about duck mania though were images of ducks that would regularly show up in my Facebook feed; these ducks were a far cry from dollar store ducks or ducks sold in bulk on Amazon. They were amazing. You see I was Facebook friends with Cris the Cruising Duck Man. So, I invited him on.After a catastrophic accident that Cris was fortunate to survive, Cris formed a new outlook on life and decided to start traveling more, including his 1st cruise. Of course, he got hooked. On his 2nd cruise, he took his kids and started learning about ducks. He got hooked on that too, to the point he purchased a 3-D printer (which ultimately became 6 3-D printers!) Cris takes multiple large suitcases of ducks every cruise & created a website cruisecave.com for selling his 3-D printed ducks. Cris says, ‘I love getting photos with people. There seems to be a trend in the cruise industry to build bigger and bigger cruise ships. That is certainly the case with Royal Caribbean International. It begs the question are mega cruise ships good for cruising? I am joined today by Royal Caribbean expert Matt Hochberg of Royal Caribbean blog. We talk about mega cruise ship, his recent experience on Icon of the Seas, the role of private islands in cruising and much more. This week The Joy of Cruising Podcast is delighted to welcome Matt Hochberg, creator of the Royal Caribbean Blog. My first direct involvement with Matt was when I featured him in The Joy of Cruising in a section called “Cruise Bloggers: The Readers' Choice” comprised of finalists and winners in the 10best Readers' Choice Best Cruise Blogger, sponsored by USA Today. Matt won for the Royal Caribbean Blog. Royal Caribbean Blog originated in 2010 and the accompanying podcast is now up to 500 episodes, and today is indisputably the leading unofficial source for all things Royal Caribbean Cruise Line. To say Matt dominates his space is an understatement. The Royal Caribbean Blog YouTube channel is the second most popular cruise channel in the world, with 235,000 subscribers, its blog is the third most visited in the world and the Royal Caribbean Blog Podcast is a consensus top three in the world—all the more amazing when you consider Royal Caribbean Blog exclusively covers a single cruise line. How popular, and influential is Matt's brand: search “Royal Caribbean” and one of the top results—the first result after Royal Caribbean Cruise Line will be Matt's blog. He has become almost synonymous with the cruise line!I mentioned my first direct involvement with Matt was his inclusion in The Joy of Cruising. However, I became really familiar with Matt well prior to that. After sailing my first cruise ever on Royal Caribbean Sovereign of the Seas—the world's largest ship in 1988, I got hooked and sailed many cruises in the ensuing years, but I didn't return to Royal for 30 years. Then I booked Anthem of the Seas in 2018 (which turned out to be the genesis of The Joy of Cruising series). Matt's podcast was the first stop for my research! The Joy of Cruising Again is now available! Coupon code is joyofcruisingpodcast.Support the show

Cruise expert Stewart Chiron drops by the answer some listener questions. Matt Hochberg from Royal Caribbean Blog answer questions on Royal Caribbeans "Lift and Shift" program and the difference between a Quantum and Quantum Ultra class ship. 1. When a ship is said to be 130,000-tons, what does that mean? 2. We are seeing cruise lines like Princess move a lot of inventory on the West Coast in the coming years -- could that be a sign of what's to come with so many Caribbean islands having different protocols post-Pandemic? 3. What's up with all the Fantasy-class ships leaving the fleet? A lot of use cruisers, myself included, love the smaller 2,000 passenger vessels. Do you think it has to do with them not having aft balconies? 4. Do ships that sail in China have the same rules as the US and the Jones Act? Does the ship or at least part of the ship need to be built in China in order to sail throughout the country? 5. When we see cities like Key West fighting the cruise lines to limit capacity and ship size, is that a vocal minority or does Key West really not place any value on us cruise passengers? It is offensive, given my family spend over $1000 there in February on a half-day fishing charter and jet skis. Date: July 19, 2020

No animals were harmed in the making of this podcast. In Guest Services today, we have stuff from our mailbag. We open two PHYSICAL letters that we received in our PHYSICAL mailing address: one from Officer MOWican and one from the folks at Mad Hatter Radio. In the Hub, we bring you the first in a two-part series in which we look back on 2016. We examine where Magic Our Way has been from the first show released in 2016 (Mouse Mingle Interview w/Dave Tavres) up until this episode. Then, we discuss things that took place in the Disney Universe in 2016 and look forward to what 2017 has in store. The year, 2016, became the year of the interview for Magic Our Way. We have experienced every range of emotion when conducting these interviews and we have been fortunate to be able to interview important folks in the Disney universe such as Paul Torrigino, Matt Hochberg, and Lee Cockerell. And, we are looking to get better at it in 2017 with even more interviews. This was also the year in which Danny created our latest logo back in July. The year, 2017, has some things that we are looking forward to like, Coco and Guardians of the Galaxy 2. It also has some things that we are kinda lukewarm about such as Avatarland, Cars 3, and the latest Pirates movie. What did you think about our discussion? Any comments? This week, we had the first of two exciting episodes about Jennifer’s return trip to DL/DCA after nearly 10 years - but encountered technical difficulties! So, Lisa sat down to share her last minute thoughts on Dr. Strange (which she saw today in D Box/3D/XD) and her (low) expectations for the upcoming Podcast Cruise 6.0 (although she does want to be new BFFs with Kathy & Teresa). For tons of RCCL info, check out Matt Hochberg’s amazingly detailed and fabulous blog and podcast. How can we wish WDW Today back to life??? I digress. I hope everyone voted. www.thosedarncats.net
Welcome to episode #88! We have a fantastic show for you today! Last week, Royal Caribbean announced an brand new class of ships that will be coming in 2022 and 2024. What is unique about this announcement is that these new ships, the Icon Class, will be power by liquefied natural gas (LNG) and fuel cell technology. This is the first ever passenger cruise ship line to bring to the cruise industry a clean burning energy proportion system. On top of that, they will be testing fuel cell technology on their Oasis and Quantum class ships to starting in 2017. We have invited Matt Hochberg of Royal Caribbean Blog onto this week's show to discuss this "iconic" news and speculate the impact of this announcement on the cruise industry, refueling stations, testing procedures, possible of fuel surcharges and more. Definitely, this is probably the biggest change and announcement that the cruise industry has seen in 2016. We will be watching this closely and keep you updated as information becomes available. Finally, please continue to share us with your family and friends - it really helps to expand and grow our show through word of mouth and the various social media outlets we use. Welcome to the Royal Caribbean Blog podcast, a weekly look into the world of Royal Caribbean cruising. I'm your host, Matt Hochberg and this is episode number 2. This week, let's take a look at one of the biggest areas of change across Royal Caribbean's fleet of ships: the specialty restaurants. In my opinion, the dining aspect for the Royal Caribbean passenger has changed the most over the last ten years or so and it continues to become more and more of a focal point when going on a cruise. Let's look at the role specialty restaurants offer guests now, the various options to choose from and where dining aboard Royal Caribbean is going in the future. Of course, we're going to have talk about our favorite places to eat as well. And before this episode is over, I'm going to share with all of you some of the amazing feedback I've received from all of you. WEDway Radio - Walt Disney World and Disneyland Examined with some Disney History
In this weeks episode of we revisit of the Studios for the second installment of thr Studios 89 Series by looking a couple of original attractions that were unique to the Stuios; Superstar Television an The Monster Sound Show. And, to add to the conversation Matt Hochberg of StudiosCentral.com lends us a hand with the details. One thing that stands out about the early Disney MGM Studios attractions were that you, the guest, were put into the action; and no attractions did this better than Superstar Television, where you got to go on the other side of the camera to play a role on a TV show, and The Monster Sound Show, where you were tasked with creating the sound alongside a suspense film. Both have been replaced over the years, but their legacy as part of the early days of the Studios has not been forgotten. Enjoy! The WDW Radio Show - Your Walt Disney World Information Station
Welcome to the WDW Radio Show, your Walt Disney World Information Station. Thank you for tuning in once again. This is Show #43 for the week of December 2, 2007. News from Walt Disney World this week includes stories on two new quick service dining locations in World Showcase, new developments about the Western Way shopping and hotel district and more. In the Walt Disney World Rumor Mill, I have some listener-submitted rumors about the DVC, changes to one of Main Street, USA's original stores, Space Mountain, and are there big changes coming to a pavilion in World Showcase? In the next of my Legends of Disney Imagineering interview series, I have a chance to sit down and talk with a man who has not only worked on the recent updates to Pirates of the Caribbean and the Haunted Mansion, but wrote the definite books on those subjects. He is Jason Surrell, and his latest book is all about Imagineering at its Peak, as he covers all of the Disney Mountains. We talk about the book, Imagineering and the Imagineers, and Jason gives us the exclusive sneak peek on what major project he's working on next. Hang on to them hats and glasses, ‘cause this here's an interview that I'm sure you're going to enjoy. Walt Disney World is full of Hidden Treasures, and I love being able to introduce you to them on the show. While some may be small and relatively unknown, there are others that are hidden in plain sight. Disney's Boardwalk is just one of those, as it is filled with countless hidden treasures including shops, restaurants, entertainment and unique experiences. Listener Jamie Curci joins me to explore the promenade in detail and familiarize you with all that it has to offer. I talk about why we do what we do, and the efforts of my DisneyWorldTrivia.com Dream Team Project to give back to the community and help those who are less fortunate and in need of some true Disney Magic. This week, I'll announce another of our efforts, the 25 Days of Disney Giving, again thanks to a listener, where you can help the Make A Wish Foundation of America, and wind up with some great Disney memorabilia for yourself. And speaking of the Dream Team, we'll announce the winner of our Walt Disney World Half Marathon Challenge Contest, and Matt Hochberg joins Eric Hollister and myself to present the clues to our next challenge. There's a lot of fun and interesting things to cover this week, so as always, sit back, relax and enjoy this week's episode of the WDW Radio Show.
