One of these programs is the Swiss Biodiversity Monitoring (BDM) which focuses on the collection of data on common and widespread species, thereby illuminating developments in the normal landscapes outside protected areas. Special attention is paid to vascular plants and butterflies, which are recorded on the same study plots. Since the start of the program in the early 2000s, an increase in common species diversity has been observed for both groups. While a large portion of this increase can be attributed to climate change, other factors such as agricultural promotion measures contributed as well. However, only a subset of species benefited from these changes, and over time, species communities of both plants and butterflies became more homogeneous, indicating biotic homogenization. It is likely that these changes also impacted plant-pollinator interactions. For example, the overall increase in plant species richness was mostly driven by wind-pollinated species. In contrast, species with complex flowers, which are essential for specialized groups of flower-visiting insects profited less. The presentation will end with a look forward, identifying current gaps in the Swiss monitoring system and discussing approaches to address these gaps.Jérôme FreiJérôme Frei is a scientific employee at the Federal Office for the Environment in the division Biodiversity and Landscape (section biodiversity policy) where he is responsible for the major national monitoring and evaluation biodiversity programs of Switzerland (BDM, WBS, ALL-EMA and MHB). His tasks include promoting collaboration and coordination between the different programs. He promotes research work on biodiversity data and facilitates the communication of results of the different monitoring and evaluation programs to policy-makers and decision-makers. He holds a PhD in biology and a master in sustainable development. Previously, he worked at the Federal Office for Agriculture where he we was in charge for the agri-environmental monitoring and was involved in the development of agrienvironemntal schemes to promote biodiversity in farmland.Tobias RothMy research is centred on using data from large-scale field surveys such as the Biodiversity Monitoring Switzerland, to better understand how biodiversity responds to global change such as nitrogen deposition, land-use, or climate-change. I focus on the human-dominated landscapes in Switzerland and aim to provide information that can be used in biodiversity conservation.

What a weekend of sport.  It's been exhausting — and that's just watching it. The All Blacks, the Warriors, a new Wimbledon champion who looks to be beginning a new era in men's tennis, and we have the FIFA Women's world cup kicking off this Thursday.  So, a lovely weekend of escapist exhilaration — and now it's back to reality. Back to an election campaign, and a busy weekend for our politicians. ACT released its list, Chris Hipkins announced Labour's campaign slogan ‘In it for you,' and Christopher Luxon announced that National would be fixing potholes.  Not terribly sexy as far as policy goes but that's exactly what I want to any new Government to be: a bit boring, nothing too sexy, and fixing stuff up.  I drove to the Hokianga for the weekend, and there'd be half a billion dollars worth of potholes just on State Highway 12. He says he'll divert the money required to fix the potholes from reprioritising spending within the National Land Transport Programme, including a reduction in expenditure on blanket speed limit reductions, and excessive speed bump installations. And, the failed Road to Zero advertising campaign, which has cost us a pretty penny and has not delivered in terms of reducing road deaths. I had no idea speed bumps were so expensive to install, but speaking to the MHB this morning, National Party leader Chris Luxon pointed out a few speed bumps would definitely fill in a few potholes. I find it interesting that Transport Minister David Parker is saying that National is proposing to fix a problem they themselves created. He says that National chose to freeze road maintenance funding during its time in office in order to fund high profile new highways.  Oh, come on.  For one thing, you just can't blame the government that came before you when you've had two terms. You've had six years to do something about the roads, but what have you done? Lowering speed limits, the light rail project, plans for a boomers bike bridge to Birkenhead that never came about, the Road to Zero campaign — lot of money there for a lot of potholes.  You had the opportunity to do something about road maintenance Mr Parker, you just chose to spend that money on pet projects that have ultimately failed in every single respect.  See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Dr. Abraham Morgentaler is a board-certified urologist, renowned medical researcher, and entrepreneur most recognized for his role is elevating men's health to an emerging clinical specialty of crucial importance. In 1999, Dr. Morgentaler launched Men's Health Boston (MHB), the first comprehensive men's health center in the U.S. MHB's reputation as a center of excellence rose in lockstep with Dr. Morgentaler's clinical research on the relationship between testosterone deficiency, male sexual dysfunction, and prostate health. The findings were irrefutable and transformative. Dr. Morgentaler studies proved that too low, not too high, levels of testosterone could be a precursor for prostate disease. Dr. Morgentaler's clinical and research findings boldly inverted the traditional urological medical community's previous assumptions about testosterone levels. Skeptical and resistant, most continued to eschew testosterone therapy as an option for their patients. Nevertheless, he persevered, standing on the firm ground of solid medical science, positive patient response, and nearly 200 published research studies. Today, Dr. Morgentaler is internationally respected and widely known as the "Father of Testosterone Therapy." Dr. Morgentaler received his Medical Doctorate from Harvard University, completed his residency at the New England Deaconess Hospital and a Surgery Fellowship at Harvard Medical School. He is currently an Associate Clinical Professor of Urology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Harvard Medical School.

It's the podcast that MHB and Steve Robinson wanted scrubbed! Blind Mike joins the program to help break down MHB's break down. Both DEC and Blind Mike try to ask questions and get no answers. MHB demands an apology from Blind Mike and doesn't get it. Steve Robinson then makes an unannounced appearance to get clarity from MHB, which he finds impossible. Steve then, unsuccessfully tries to determine how little MHB will accept to join the Kirk Minihane show.
