Húrin encounters Mîm in Nargothrond and slays him. As he journeys eastward, he is taken to King Thingol. He casts the Nauglamír, Necklace of Dwarves at Thingol's feet and berates him for the loss of his wife and children. Melian attempts to reason with him, assuring him that Túrin, Morwen, and Nienor were welcomed with honor in Doriath. Due to the power of the Girdle of Melian, Húrin at last sees how Morgoth twisted the truth. 01:09 Cameron reads pages 230-233 from the Silmarillion, 2nd Edition 13:57 Summary 15:22 Discussion "Long was their labour; and Thingol went down alone to their deep smithies, and sat ever among them as they worked. In time his desire was achieved, and the greatest of the works of the Elves and Dwarves were brought together and made one." We're in the second half of The Enchanted Forest Chronicles, covering Calling on Dragons, a book following Morwen. The adventure starts slowly as the wizards are wreaking havoc, but we did call that. Asia and Charles are justifiably annoyed that the wizards were given enough free reign to continue to cause problems. There's lots of complicated magic, and a little bit of a quest. There is also some girl-boss energy so you definitely don't want to miss it. Next week we will be reading a new book in one week, Talking to Dragons, book 4 of The Enchanted Forest Chronicles. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/throwback-paperback/support

We conclude our trilogy of episodes on Chapter 21 of The Silmarillion, "Of Túrin Turambar." After Glaurung sacks Nargothrond, Morwen pulls a Thingol and ignores Melian's advice. She leaves Doriath, Nienor secretly follows, and the dragon ensnares another child of Húrin. We witness a fateful reunion of brother and sister, and the final showdown between hero and dragon. We close the sad tale with a discussion of fate, free will, pity and mean, mean pride in a marathon podcast that challenges popular opinions about Tolkien's tragic hero... and the stamina of your hosts.

Emily, a Toronto native, was first introduced to yoga in New York City where she was studying theater and the art of becoming an anxiety-ridden insomniac! At the time, the thought of Yoga meant slowing down, which meant terrifying and seemed better suited for “hippies” and “tea people”, not she! But after accidentally stumbling into her first class, she was shocked to discover that this “slowing down” was not only the most challenging sweaty work-out she’d ever had, but for the first time in ages, she felt calm. Excited and inspired to learn more, she began her study and practice of Yoga. Emily completed one of Moksha Yoga’s first 800-hour teacher trainings in Thailand where she was lucky enough to study with Susi Hately Aldous, Ted Grand and Jessica Robertson, Frank Boccio, and more. It was on this trip that Emily, Deena and Jess planted the seed of a distant dream to one day open Moksha Yoga LA… Cut to: Years later. Emily now lives in LA, teaches Yoga privately all over LA, is the creator of Yoga Theater for Kids (which she taught in schools, and foster youth programs throughout Los Angeles), has just finished performing her LA debut of her One-woman show…when Deena said something like “Ok, so are you ready to open up Moksha Yoga LA yet now, or what??”, to which she said yes and the rest is history. Emily is grateful to her teachers both present and past such as Annie Carpenter, Kia Miller, Bryan Kest, Gurmukh, Liz Olesky, Jasmine Lieb, the Robertson Family tree, her wonderful meditation mentors, Jeanne Pisano and Ken McLeod and to her students, the greatest teachers of all. Emily also has a passion for philanthropic work. Within the first two years of being open, Moksha Yoga LA raised over $160,000 for charities around the world. Founder of Sweat for Change has raised $115,000 for Little Kids Rock
Includes a 15 min guided meditation. This week we sit down with Emily Morwen, who is the co-founder of Modo Yoga LA! Emily talks to us about several transitions in her life that led her to open her yoga studio here in Los Angeles, which so happens to be next door to our DEN Meditation La Brea location. After leaving a long term relationship and making the big move from Canada to the U.S., she decided to put her acting career on hold to pursue another passion. Emily is an inspiring example of following your path and intuition even when it leads you in a different direction than planned. She tells us stories from her first experiences in L.A. trying to make money, starting with small steps such as posting flyers for private yoga lessons. It wasn’t long after that she decided to focus all her energy on opening her own studio with her co-founder, Deena Robertson. Modo Yoga started originally in Canada and has over 80 locations worldwide, all with individual owners who collectively meet every year to create a like-minded community focused on acceptance and diversity. Emily talks to us about what makes this community so special, why practicing hot yoga resonates with her, and how she incorporates her own grounding techniques (such as singing) into her yoga classes.
