On the afternoon of May 9, 1980, four heavily armed men walked into the Security Pacific Bank in Norco, California and demanded $20,000 in cash. Having seen the men enter the bank with their guns, employees of a different bank across the street called the Riverside County Sheriff's Department and deputies responded immediately. When the bank robbers were confronted in the parking lot by law enforcement, a shootout began that would ultimately span more than forty miles across two counties, and when it was finally over, one sheriff's deputy and two of the perpetrators were dead, eleven others were wounded. Moreover, the assault caused hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage from the nearly 2000 rounds that were fired, hitting houses, buildings, cars, among other things.Thank you to the Incredible Dave White of Bring Me the Axe Podcast for research and Writing support!ReferencesBennett, Lorraine. 1980. ove LA Magazine? I don't miss an issue. How about Orange Coast, Pasadena, and SoCal Magazines for those folks living there? Well, the brains behind all of them is President and Publisher Christopher Gialanella, and I'm thrilled to welcome him to our shows today. Chris is from Livingston, New Jersey, and when I found that out, the two of us couldn't stop chatting about it because I went to the Livingston Mall all the time as a kid, shopping at Spencer's and all kinds of stores we both loved. After working in PR in New York, Chris made his way to LA, and quickly rose within the ranks of publishing, working for Modern Luxury and LA Confidential. And who doesn't get these magazines in their mailboxes, oohing and aahing at the gorgeous home and fashion spreads on the inside. Well, that's Chris' vision, too. And these days, we can't go anywhere without seeing Chris on the red carpet, including at the Oscars this year, and just about anywhere that's relevant in SoCal, you'll find Chris front and center. And he's a master at branding, too. We'll talk about that. We will also talk about the future of magazines and how they're pivoting to online, like most things. And it's profitable. Also, Chris is of ITALIAN descent, and we will discuss the Italian influences in his early life and today. Please join my #DeborahKobyltLIVE, #LittleItalyPodcast and #LittleItalyOfLAPodcast on all video and audio platforms, and please invite your friends, too. I'm your host, #DeborahZaraKobylt, and it's my pleasure to welcome you here. @christophergia @lamag @orangecoastmag @pasadenamag

Blending personal narrative and investigative reporting, Emmy Award-winning journalist Cole Kazdin reveals that disordered eating is an epidemic crisis killing millions of women. Women of all ages struggle with disordered eating, preoccupation with food, and body anxiety. Journalist Cole Kazdin was one such woman, and she set out to discover why her own full recovery from an eating disorder felt so impossible. Interviewing women across the country as well as the world's most renowned researchers, she discovered that most people with eating disorders never receive treatment––the fact that she did made her one of the lucky ones. Kazdin takes us to the doorstep of the diet industry and research community, exposing the flawed systems that claim to be helping us, and revealing disordered eating for the crisis that it is: a mental illness with the second highest mortality rate (after opioid-related deaths) that no one wants to talk about. Along the way, she identifies new treatments not yet available to the general public, grass roots movements to correct racial disparities in care, and strategies for navigating true health while still living in a dysfunctional world. What's Eating Us is an urgent battle cry coupled with stories and strategies about what works and how to finally heal—for real. Cole Kazdin is an Emmy Award-winning television journalist and author of What's Eating Us: Women, Food, and the Epidemic of Body Anxiety (St. Martin's Press 2023). Selected as a Next Big Idea Book Club Must-Read, the book blends personal narrative and investigative reporting to reveal disordered eating as an epidemic crisis killing millions of women. Cole has written for TIME, The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Los Angeles Magazine, The Daily Beast, MEL Magazine, and more, and was a regular contributor to VICE. She has produced television for Good Morning America, Nightline and World News Tonight. Cole has told stories live on The Moth's Mainstage across the country, The Moth Radio Hour on NPR,, and has performed storytelling all over Southern California where she is a proud, three-time Moth GrandSLAM champion. Her solo performances have garnered national praise and been optioned for film. A contributing author to the bestselling book, The Moth Presents All These Wonders: True Stories About Facing the Unknown, she coaches and teaches writers all over the world, as well as leading workshops and classes for corporations and universities and currently teaches at the UCLA Extension Writers' Program.

The sources suggest that this theory originated from discoveries made by Hannah's mother, Brandi Yee, who found immigration documents in her daughter's home. Here is what the sources tell us about this theory: Possible Green Card Marriage: According to Los Angeles Magazine, the documents found by Hannah's mother suggested that Hannah may have participated in a marriage for the purpose of helping an Argentinian man, Alan Cacace, obtain a green card Allegations of Financial Exploitation: Sources cited in Los Angeles Magazine allege that Hannah was scammed out of her payment for participating in this marriage scheme by her ex-boyfriend Hannah's Text Message: This allegation is seemingly corroborated by a text message sent by Hannah to a friend on November 11, in which she states, "I got tricked pretty much into giving away all my funds. From someone I thought I loved" Presence of Individuals on Flight: Los Angeles Magazine reported that Hannah flew from Maui to Los Angeles with Cacace, Cacace's girlfriend, and Hannah's ex-boyfriend. The ex-boyfriend continued to New York, while Hannah stayed in Los Angeles. Family's Knowledge of the Marriage: Further complicating the narrative, online commentators claim that Hannah's family was aware of the marriage as early as November 16. A screenshot of a text message allegedly sent by Hannah's sister, Sydney, to an unidentified recipient on November 16 includes a photo of Hannah and Cacace on a beach and the statement, "this is our confirmation and Lead now". Family's Denial of Knowledge: However, the family, through their attorney, has denied publicly announcing any information about the alleged marriage because they did not have sufficient evidence to verify its legitimacy [12, 13]. The family attorney has characterized the information as "one of many leads we are actively investigating". The scam marriage theory has ignited controversy and added another layer of complexity to an already perplexing case. There are conflicting accounts regarding the family's knowledge of the alleged marriage and their motivations for either concealing or denying information. The sources also present a muddled timeline, with differing accounts of when certain events occurred and who was present.

The PC Police Outlaw Make-Believe." "Meet the Renegades of the Intellectual Dark Web." "The Roots of Campus Hatred." "End DEI." These articles all have something in common: they were written by Bari Weiss. Weiss, the New York Times opinion editor and columnist turned horseshoe theorist media proprietor, has made a name for herself as a victim, and enemy, of that perennial right-wing bogeyman: so-called wokeness. For over a decade now, Weiss has taken to the pages of major news media to complain, vilified — and sometimes target — college kids and protesters who won't let her and the fascistic company she keeps, Jordan Peterson, Ben Shapiro, and the like, speak their minds as loudly and publicly as possible. There is, of course, a comical level of irony here. Amid her claims of being silenced and repressed by a hostile left, Weiss has been paid to voice her opinions in legacy paper after legacy paper and been given millions by venture capital firms to start her own media company, The Free Press, and her so-called "university," the University of Austin. And despite her insistence that mainstream institutions are too intolerant of heterodox views like hers, she's warmly embraced on CNN broadcasts, in the pages of her former employer, The New York Times, and has been given glowing profiles in Vanity Fair, Los Angeles Magazine, Ha'aretz, The Information, and the Financial Times. On this episode, we discuss the rise of Bari Weiss Silicon Valley-funded media empire, the trope of the Iconoclast rebel, truth-telling media lightening rod with banal conservative political positions, and the broader, seemingly uniquely American psychological need, and branding convention, for people with 95% boilerplate rightwing positions to see themselves as persecuted outsiders who don't fit into any labels. Our guest is Discourse Blog's Katherine Krueger.
TrineDay's The Journey Podcast 164. John Barbour, Part Two: Harris, Trump, and The DebatePublisher R. A. “Kris” Millegan speaks with John Barbour, actor, comic, veteran of THE TONIGHT SHOW and Las Vegas,“The Godfather of Reality TV,” creator, co-host and writer of the hit show, REAL PEOPLE, five-time Emmy-winner, celebrated movie critic for years in L.A.,Writer and director of the award-winning THE GARRISON TAPES, which Oliver Stone called, “The perfect companion piece to my movie JFK,”Writer and director of THE AMERICAN MEDIA AND THE 2ND ASSASSINATION OF PRESIDENT JOHN F. KENNEDY, which leading researchers applaud as “The definitive film on JFK and the rise of Fake News,”Co-creator with Len Osanic of the film, GREATEST PIECE OF INVESTIGATIVE JOURNALISM IN 75 YEARS: Barbour & Osanic's Tribute to Wm. F. Pepper,And the author of YOUR MOTHER'S NOT A VIRGIN! The bumpy life and times of the Canadian dropout who changed the face of American TV!, his delightful autobiography available at TrineDay.com and the usual sellers.John's films, books, and more can be found at JohnBarboursWorld.com.Topics discussed:John lost a national TV show because he tried to tell the story of Jim Garrison's late 1960s investigation into the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. “I was getting $30,000 an hour from 1979 to 1982. I lost it all.” He doesn't care. He made the two definitive films on the murder of JFK. They can't be topped because “I have the real Jim Garrison.”Recently he made, with Len Osanic, the film, GREATEST PIECE OF INVESTIGATIVE JOURNALISM IN 75 YEARS: Barbour & Osanic's Tribute to Wm. F. Pepper, who not only solved the murder of Martin Luther King, Jr. – he had lunch with the Memphis cop who shot him.John's recent broken rib, he told his doctors, was from laughing at Trump during the debate. “Trump and Vance are the Laurel and Hardy of American politics. Another fine mess!” The majority of John's Facebook friends are not voting for Kamala. They are voting against Trump. If he loses, “he'll be like a flock of [bucking] flies at a picnic that just won't go away.”John distains American politics. The only difference between the Democrats and the Republicans is the spelling. He's on Facebook only to inform people about his films and his books. His wife recently had a bout of edema. She's home now, doing fine, but was still in a wheelchair when she watched the debate with John after not watching television for months. Ten minutes in, she jumped up and said, “Is he kidding? How did he get this far?” Though Trump's performance was a disaster, “At least for a moment, he helped Sarita's recovery!”Trump was dead meat from the start. He ignored Harris and went to his lectern. But she came to him to introduce herself, as confident, paraphrasing Mark Twain, “as a Christian holding four aces.” Trump instantly became a cornered sheep. She sliced him up into little pieces. He did nothing but talk about himself, while Harris talked about you, and me, and America, three things that Trump is totally unfamiliar with.John knows several really smart businessmen who are going to vote for Trump – even though they admit they would never hire him for anything.John will probably make a couple of new documentaries, like his Jim Garrison and William F. Pepper films. He describes his movie review of DEEP THROAT in LOS ANGELES MAGAZINE and its effect on the jury and when the judge insisted that he say the last line, which he omitted when he read the review on TV. #TrineDay #JohnBarbour #TheJourneyPodcast #DonaldTrump #KamalaHarris #TheDebate #WilliamFPepper #MartinLutherKingJr #JimGarrison

Returning guests, Stacie Stukin and Phillip Deslippe are joining the show once again to speak about their newest investigative piece on the troublesome boarding schools of the 3HO community. Stacie Stukin is an arts and culture journalist from Los Angeles. She was a contributing editor at Yoga Journal and has also written about yoga for the Los Angeles Times and Time Magazine. Over the years, she's had the opportunity to write about Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan, including a majorly impactful article for Los Angeles Magazine about the sexual misconduct allegations against Yogi Bhajan and the subsequent reckoning within the 3HO community. Philip Deslippe is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Religious Studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and holds an MA from the University of Iowa. He has written articles for several academic journals including the Journal of Yoga Studies and Tricycle magazine. Philip was himself a member of 3HO for about a decade after taking a Kundalini Yoga class at his undergraduate college in the mid-1990s. He left in 2008 and went on to conduct research into the origins of Yogi Bhajan's Kundalini Yoga that culminated in the ground-breaking 2012 article "From Maharaj to Mahan Tantric" for Sikh Formations. In this revealing conversation, Stacie & Phillip delve into the disturbing practices within the 3HO community, particularly focusing on the abusive and neglectful conditions at the boarding schools in India. Philip provides a detailed history of Yogi Bhajan's rise to power and the hierarchical structure he created, which facilitated widespread abuse and control. Stacie shares harrowing accounts from former members, highlighting the long-lasting impact of the community's toxic environment. The discussion also covers the recent reparations program for survivors of abuse within 3HO. While the program aimed to provide settlements and institutional changes, many claimants found it re-traumatizing and inadequate. Author Ivor Davis has written seven books, "The Devil in my Friend" is the latest, co-written with his late wife, Sally. It's a stirring account of his neighbor in Malibu in the late 1970s and early 1980s, Fred Roehler, who worked as a diver and engineer for the U.S. Navy. When Roehler survived a boating accident that claimed the life of his wife, Verna, and step-son, Doug, people became suspicious, especially when it was learned that Roehler's first wife had died by drowning in their backyard pool. The murders literally hit home for Davis, they lived in the same neighborhood and Davis coached Doug's soccer team, and Fred was his assistant coach. Davis follows the investigation and trial through every gripping twist and turn, diving deep into the complexities of human nature, of how psychopaths fool us despite their cold-blooded nature. Davis and his wife investigated Roehler's childhood in Indiana, where they discovered the family roots of his sociopathy. His other books include his first-person account of being embedded with The Beatles on their triumphant tour of America in 1964, with a recent 60th anniversary edition expanded with more photos and a Q&A section. He also wrote extensively about Charles Manson, and his eyewitness account covering the notorious cult leader and murderer. We talk about Ivor's love of Ojai and its arts community, his fascinating career covering America for the London Daily Express, Times of London, New York Times Syndicate and Los Angeles Magazine. He has also written a children's book, "Ladies and Gentlemen ... the Penguins!" We did not talk about Ulysses Grant's second term, the Gunpowder Plot or the rise of Sabrina Carpenter. You can check out Davis' books at IvorDavisBooks.com or through his media contact, Kathleen Kaiser, at Kathleen@kathleenkaiser.com.

The Rich Zeoli Show- Full Episode (01/05/2024): 3:05pm- A third batch of court documents pertaining to Jeffrey Epstein have been unsealed. Matt Walsh of The Daily Wire writes: “The CIA has a term called “limited hangout.” This is a tactic where some small portion of the truth is made public while the most important details—the stuff that really matters—is kept hidden. Intelligence agencies do this in hopes that the stuff they release will satisfy everyone's curiosity and they'll stop asking questions. These Epstein files appear to be exactly that. This is a limited hangout. A diversion meant to satisfy you without actually telling you what you need to know. They want you to stop asking questions. Don't fall for it.” You can read the full article here: https://www.dailywire.com/news/the-epstein-files-are-released-but-the-cover-up-continues 3:15pm- President Joe Biden has released his first campaign ad of the 2024 presidential election cycle—purposefully timed to release on the 3-year anniversary of the January 6th riots at the U.S. Capitol. Unsurprisingly, the Biden campaign team uses the thirty-second advertisement to paint Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump and his supporters as a threat to the country. 3:30pm- On Friday, from Blue Bell, Pennsylvania, President Joe Biden gave a speech commemorating the third anniversary of the January 6th riot at the U.S. Capitol. The speech, much like his recently released campaign advertisement, portrayed Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump and his supporters as a threat to the United States—accusing the former president of refusing to denounce political violence, and in fact, actively encouraging it while adopting rhetoric similar to Nazi Germany. 4:05pm- Listeners react to President Joe Biden's speech from Blue Bell, Pennsylvania on the third anniversary of the January 6th riot at the U.S. Capitol. As some callers note, Biden spent the vast majority of his speech demonizing former President Donald Trump and Trump supporters—though, Biden failed to lay out his own vision for America's future. 4:10pm- During his speech on Friday, President Joe Biden concluded by calling for unity—though, the vast majority of his speech consisted of him attacking Republicans. 4:30pm- Dr. Victoria Coates— Former Deputy National Security Advisor & the Vice President of the Davis Institute for National Security and Foreign Policy at The Heritage Foundation—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to discuss her latest op-ed at Fox News, “The Houthi Are a Foreign Terrorist Organization, and Here's What Biden-Blinken Team Should Do About It.” You can read the editorial here: https://www.foxnews.com/opinion/houthi-foreign-terrorist-organization-what-biden-blinken-team-do-about-it. Dr. Coates is the author of “David's Sling: A History of Democracy in Ten Works of Art.” You can find her book here: https://www.amazon.com/Davids-Sling-History-Democracy-Works/dp/1594037213 5:05pm- Adam Liptak of The New York Times writes: “The Supreme Court on Friday agreed to decide whether former President Donald J. Trump is ineligible for Colorado's Republican primary ballot because he had engaged in insurrection in his efforts to overturn the 2020 election. The case, which could alter the course of this year's presidential election, will be argued on Feb. 8. The court will probably decide it quickly, as the primary season will soon be underway.” You can read more here: https://www.nytimes.com/2024/01/05/us/trump-supreme-court-colorado-ballot.html 5:15pm- While speaking with Dana Bash on CNN, Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said it should be left to the states to decide whether or not Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump can appear on ballots. 5:25pm- Michele McPhee of Los Angeles Magazine writes: “Sitrick & Company, the global crisis public relations firm who has a client list of the rich and powerful — including Jeffrey Epstein — was burglarized over the New Year's holiday by thieves who stole company computers and servers just hours before a trove of long-sealed court documents related to the admitted pedophile were released.” Was this merely a coincidence? During her incoherent rant she bizarrely revealed that she is wearing a diaper! 6:05pm- President Joe Biden has released his first campaign ad of the 2024 presidential election cycle—purposefully timed to release on the 3-year anniversary of the January 6th riots at the U.S. Capitol.
