The end is nigh, even though you wish the end was nah. Sorry gang, this is our last episode of No April, Only Zuul (aside from our Patreon bonus). What did you think? Was this whole month worth it? Are you overloaded? Are you there, god? It's me Janosz. This episode is a barbarous melee of button mashing mayhem as we talk about literally every Ghostbusters game (that is worth commenting on). We talk Nintendo, Sega, arcade, PC, Amiga, Atari, pinball, mobile games, pachinko, The Real Ghostbusters, Extreme Ghostbusters, and more. I would type it all out, but the metadata really has not helped out downloads, so I won't bore you. Find out your hosts' favorite games, if they hold up, and what they would want in their perfect Ghostbusters game. This episode also features an interview with artist and game designer, Ben Jelter: https://www.benjelter.com/ ; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1uSm3hIM0-o&t=5s&ab_channel=DanaJennings Check out Ben's fantastic Gameboy game Opossum Country: https://benjelter.itch.io/opossum-country If you ever have feedback or recommendations on future episodes, please let us know at slasherspod@gmail.com. Since we are in our third week of No April, Only Zuul, it’s only fitting that we discuss and dissect all of the animated content that the Ghostbusters Universe has provided us. Adam and Doug go into the magic that is The Real Ghostbusters--the OG animated series--before segueing into Slimer and The Real Ghostbusters and all of the trivia in between. We talk about the other DIC Entertainment properties from Inspector Gadget, Hello Kitty, Sonic, Super Mario, and like 15 others. Oh, and because it is obligatory any time anyone mentions this franchise, we talk about how integral J. Michael Straczynski was to the show. Ade gushes on the awesomeness that is Extreme Ghostbusters. Made by Adelaide Productions, the same studio that brought you Jumanji, Men in Black, and Godzilla. Did you know that there was a bizarre light gun game released for this show on PS1 after the PS2 had been out for four years??? AND SEVEN YEARS AFTER THIS SHOW WAS CANCELED!!! Finally, Jake ends the party with his extensive knowledge on all things comic book related, ranging from Marvel UK, to Now Comics, 88mph, and IDW. He even delves into promotional giveaway comics packed in with British toffee candy things, called Trio. His discussion includes noteworthy creators like Dan Abnet and Andy Lanning, and spans to pretty covers and variations between multiple titles. What issue has a Fantastic Four reference? We talk the art style on every crossover, such as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, X-Files, and Mars Attacks, and why Dan Schoening's art is second to none! Which crossover does writer, Erik Burnham, want to do next with the comics? Just press play already and find out. It’s been a crazy few weeks, but with Ghostbusters, there really isn’t enough time on this planet to dive into every little thing. This truly has been a fun ride. Let us know your thoughts and don’t forget to head on over to our Redbubble for some sweet merch. This week's "Hidden Track" is Miserable Feeling by Attic Stories. Hello Metalheads ! No April fools day trick for you. We really have an exclusive fun interview with SAXON drummer Nigel Glockler as he discusses with the Vernomatic the brand new INSPIRATIONS CD.Coming off of a successful album/tour cycle with their previous effort “Thunderbolt”, Biff Byford & Co. reportedly already have new original material in final stages of production to be released. Understandably though, presenting this now would be shooting blanks for a band that has become such a staple in the live circuits under normal circumstances. Hence the idea to buy some time with “Inspirations”. But rest assured, this is not something hastily put together – Saxon clearly put a lot of thought into this release, starting with its cover – a black and white drawing with the classic formations of the bands they’re covering.Nigel plays along with staple show segment Mt.RUSHMORE of metal and gives some highlights of past tour antics. Great conversation with a super guy from a HEAVY METAL HOF BAND..
Here on Slashers, there is No April, Only Zuul. That’t right human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together... mass hysteria! An ENTIRE MONTH of Ghostbusters content! This film was originally written by Dan Aykroyd. It was admittedly a bloated, overly expensive movie for someone with his pull in the industry at the time. Then came Harold Ramis to help parse the script down to something financially viable. Truly, short of a Troma movie, I have never come across a more fluid script in doing this show. A simple search online will reveal numerous drafts of the script, that changed all through shooting, and Bill Murray’s omnipresent improvisation. The film came from the Aykroyd family’s longstanding fascination and involvement in the paranormal, the occult, and technology (his grandpa, Maurice, tried to make a ghost telephone). Dan often said his two greatest obsessions as a kid were the incorporeal and law enforcement. As you trace the drafts of the script back to the original, this movie was a perfect amalgamation of the two, that became a perfect-er other thing. Directed by Ivan Reitman, who voiced several characters in the film, and helped shape this into the most successful comedy of all time… until Macaulay Macaulay Culkin Culkin (Yes, he changed his middle name from Carson) and Home Alone. Rarely do we get into alternate casting, but it seems that each and every part in this film aside from Aykroyd’s Ray Stantz was almost played by someone else. We truly almost had a film with Michael Keaton, Eddie Murphy, and John Candy… which makes me want that TV remote from Rick and Morty. Even casting the people in the film was weird, with some acting like dogs and another leveraging his role into making a remake of Razor's Edge, which flopped harder than Ray's fleshy member in that cringy scene in the bed with the ghost... you know the one. We also talk about the hugely expansive and intricate cinematic universe for this film including Caddyshack, Casper, Beetlejuice, and Little Shop of Horrors!? We talk about shooting locations for the film, spanning from Los Angeles to Firehouse, Hook & Ladder Company 8 of the NYCFD on 14 North Moore Street. What a nice change of pace from every other movie shot in Georgia and Toronto these days. Did you want to know how the special effects and equipment came to be? So did we, so we researched it and then talked about it. Spoiler alert, it was basically one overworked under-credited guy named Stephen Dane, who did it all in like two weeks. How many Ecto-1's did they make for the movie? What was Slimer's original name? And then his other name? Speaking of names, what was almost the name of this film?! WHY DID THEY STEAL THE NAME FROM TWO JOKERS AND THEIR PET APE FROM A 1975 TV SHOW?! ...trust me, we get into it. On this episode we talk everything from the production, to the casting, with inspirations and lore in between. You even get a dramatic rendition of Sigourney Weaver’s poem she wrote and performed at the wrap party after shooting ended. This week’s “Hidden Track” is Eye Roller by Lovebreakers. No April fools joke here...on this, the fifth day of Passover, we meet Eric’s last day as an official co-host. He will be moving on to full-time independent writing projects. Collaboration with the Tragedy Academy was demanded and will occur.Turns out Eric was literally a sailor as a young man. Remember how some of your mothers used to dress you up in cute little sailor suits as toddlers? Eric’s family took it to another level and shipped his ass off to a naval summer camp in landlocked Indiana. Don’t believe us? We have photographic proof. Jay points out that the picture looks like one of those propaganda war bond ads from the 50s. Humiliating? Absolutely.Appropriately, Eric was a terrible sailor and sunk several boats that had to be fished from the bottom of that lake. A lake filled by the way with gar. One of the most terrifying-looking fish on Earth. Look them up. The conversation turns to some other terrifying wonders of the sea including goblin sharks. Why were these made? What is their purpose? May you never fall deep enough into the ocean to find out.Multiple Jewish stereotypes are bantered about, solely by Eric (for the record) and then the two co-hosts discuss lessons learned during time together on the show. Jay explains how their dark humor and self-effacing comedy were a gateway for him to work through image and body dysmorphia issues from childhood. The goal of bridging societal divides in a judgment-free zone has most certainly been achieved and will continue to be focused on hard by Jay. And candor and humor (sound like He-Man characters right?) will always be used to get the point across.Eric discusses how he has always wanted to pursue writing as it has always been his passion. What is your passion? The TTA takes the stance that you can obtain it through being your authentic self. If you approach life by avoiding the negative self-talk or the societal forced limitations you can foster that talent or passion as it is clear what you are naturally designed to do. Societal norms and pressures prevent us from reaching our full potential. When fight your authentic natural self is you trap your creativity in a cage. Without the ability to express your natural passion and talent you slowly breakdown your heart and soul. So Eric bids the podcast shalom but looks forward to seeing and hearing from all of you Academics in the future. On a serious note: Schlemiel, schlemazel hasenpfeffer incorporated.PS I’m really only HALF Jewish...which IS a thing.Episode 71 wraps up the TTA's freshman year. See you next week for our sophomore year! Be cool. Keep learning.

No April-foolin' around. If you haven't put a multi-species British Columbia horseback hunt on your bucket list you really should. On today's episode the Rolling Bones team invites Aaron, a (rather colorful) RBO signature guide/outfitter partner from B.C. to give you a virtual guided tour of a Canadian hunt on horseback for up to three of the following: moose, elk, mountain goat, wolf, caribou or black bear. The guys recount their adventures hunting with Aaron and get real about expectations with a horseback hunt and some good advice working with an outfitter. As we record this episode in the Spring of 2021, the Canadian border is closed to non-resident hunters and Aaron gives his opinion on the reopening. One thing we know for sure, it won't be closed forever and now is the time to consider and book one of these especially memorable hunts for 2022 and beyond.
This is Stephen Schmidt from the Gazette digital news desk and I'm here with your update for Thursday, April 1. No April fooling. If you and your plants made it through Wednesday's cold unscathed that is as bad as it's going to get this week, and some lovely weather is on the way. That said, the temperature isn't going to rise all at once, so it's still going to be chilly one more day. According to the National Weather Service, the Cedar Rapids area should see a high of 44 degrees with sunny skies. The low is expected to be 27 degrees Thursday night. Expect temperatures almost 20 degrees warmer on Friday and even more than 30 degrees warmer by the weekend. Davenport's police chief on Wednesday confirmed what many suspected — the remains discovered last week near DeWitt are those of Breasia Terrell, the 10-year-old Davenport girl missing since last July. An autopsy confirmed the identification, Davenport Police Chief Paul Sikorski said at a news conference at the police station. Breasia's mother, Aishia Lankford of Davenport, said in a statement, issued through the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, that “words cannot describe the heartache and emptiness that we feel.” Lankford said Thursday that while the search for Breasia is over, the family is committed to searching for answers about her death. The lone person of interest in Breasia's disappearance is being held in the Clinton County Jail. Henry Earl Dinkins, 48, was arrested July 10 and later charged with three unrelated counts of violating the sex-offender registry. Breasia spent the night with her brother at Dinkins' home during the time period she disappeared. Dinkins is the boy's father. In just a few days, over 1.2 million Iowans who have not already started or finished getting a COVID-19 vaccination will become eligible. The state and its local partners are ready, Gov. Kim Reynolds said Wednesday. On March 17, the governor announced the state's plan to open vaccine eligibility to all Iowans who are old enough starting April 5. On Wednesday, Reynolds said that plan remains on track and that her administration, county public health departments, medical providers, pharmacies and other entities involved in distributing the vaccines are prepared to handle what surely will be a surge in Iowans wanting to make appointments. The state previously designated the vaccine for populations most at risk of contracting the disease or suffering the worst symptoms if they became ill with it. Nearly five months after the election, Democrat Rita Hart withdrew her contest Wednesday asking Congress to investigate Republican U.S. Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks' 6 vote win of Southeast Iowa's 2nd Congressional District. Hart was contesting that 22 votes were not counted due to election errors, and if they were validated she would have narrowly won. Hart said she withdrew her challenge after speaking with other Democrats in the midst of a Republican pressure campaign decrying her congressional challenge as a power grab. The decision came likely as a combination of that pressure along with a lack of support from national Democrats who would prefer keeping it as a Democratic leaning seat they can win back in less than two years over the political price of overturning an election, even if doing so would be justifiable.
