Welcome to our first episode of Dog Days of Summer here on Slashers Podcast! The weather and heat this year has got us all hot and bothered in our respective states, so we decided to do films that feature some sort of canine creature. Today's episode has Mikey, Doug and Ade discussing 2006's The Breed. The film is presented by Wes Craven and directed by Nicholas Mastandrea, who actually served as Craven's first assistant director for 1994's Wes Craven's New Nightmare. Thankfully, the film features a star-studded up and coming cast of Michelle Rodriguez, Taryn Manning, Eric Lively (yes, Blake's brother), Oliver Hudson (yes, Kate's brother), and Hill Harper. The film follows a group of five college kids who are forced to match wits with unwelcoming residents when they fly to a "deserted" island for a party weekend. Your hosts even get into their thoughts about what they think of the new Saw X film, as well as The Exorcist: The Believer. Are you excited for the new horror to come? Let us know in the comments! If you want to watch The Breed before listening, and we recommend you do, it's currently streaming FOR FREE on Tubi and FreeVee (through Prime if you have it). Happy Monday, Goons! For our 3rd pick here on our Slashers Podcast Brutal Summer, Jason and Ade are joined by Lance to discuss 2010's South Korean bloody action thriller, I Saw the Devil, starring Old Boy, himself, Choi Min-Sik, and GI Joe's Lee Byung-hun. The film was directed by Kim Jee Woo, who you may know from the creepy A Tale of Two Sisters (way better than its remake, The Uninvited) and Arnold Schwarzenegger's The Last Stand. The film follows a secret agent who exacts revenge on his wife's killer. As Jason said, “It's not as bad as Inside. Or Oldboy. Think of it as a brutal Taken.” If you haven't seen this one yet, we highly recommend you watch before listening, as spoilers are peppered in throughout the entire episode. Hey Goons! July's theme is BRUTAL SUMMER, where your esteemed colleagues, cohosts, aaand cohorts discuss all things torture porn/ extreme film related. Our second film this month comes with a trigger warning, so watch at your own risk. It is 2007's French extreme horror film by Alexandre Bustillo: Inside. There is also a 2018 remake (and both our Christmas movies, if you want to add them to your holiday playlists). Both are currently streaming on Tubi, but the original is also on Shudder. We warn you, this one is not for the faint of heart, especially if you're an expecting mother or a woman in general. However, if you want a Lifetime happy version of this brutal, hyper violent torture porn, the American remake may be the one for you lol. The film stars Lance Henriksen and follows a grieving father, who, after a tragic accident, conjures up a towering, vengeful demon called Pumpkinhead to destroy a group of unsuspecting teenagers. The film is based on a poem by Ed Justin and is directed by the amazing Stan Winston. Welcome Goons to our Pride/ Father's day month here on Slashers Podcast! This June's event is where we discuss horror films that highlight the joys and terrors of fatherhood; or maybe just a fun episode celebrating pride, depending on what tickles our fancy this week. Plus we have a lot of daddies on the show, so why not? Today, Doug and Ade kick off our first Monday with 2002's Frailty. This one's so special because it is directed by and stars the late, great, Bill Paxton, and follows a mysterious man who arrives at the offices of an FBI agent and recounts his childhood: how his religious fanatic father received visions telling him to destroy people who were in fact "demons." The film also stars a young and adorably creeper Matthew McConaughey, as well as Powers Booth, Jeremy Sumpter and Matt O'Leary. If you haven't checked this one out yet, we highly suggest you stream it and then return to the episode! While it's not streaming for free, it'll only set you back $3.99 lol If you ever have feedback or recommendations on future episodes, please let us know at slasherspod@gmail.com. Welcome to the final week of Mother's May(hem) on Slashers Podcast! A month long event where we discuss horror films that highlight the joys and terrors of motherhood. Today Ade, Austin and Lance discuss 1999's The Rage: Carrie 2! Also, today's episode is so special because for the first time ever in Slashers Podcast history, all 3 hosts LIVE IN FLORIDA. Your degenerates await you! This film was initially intended to be a standalone, but was reworked to be a sequel to everyone's favorite telekinetic, teen angsty, Stephen King character 1974's Carrie. Written by Rafael Moreu and directed by Katt Shea, it stars Emily Bergl as Rachel Lang, a young goth chick who witnesses her best friend in a horrific accident (trigger warning) and must navigate the hell that is high school, all while her own mother is locked away in an institution for schizophrenia. Anyway, much like its predecessor, our protagonist does discover she has some special abilities, but unlike Carrie, Rachel seems to keep them on the back burner until our final act. The film also stars other 90s favorites such as Jason London (Dazed and Confused), Rachel Blanchard (Clueless), Dylan Bruno (Saving Private Ryan), Zachery Ty Bryan (Home Improvement), Mena Suvari (American Pie), Eddie Kaye Thomas (American Pie), J. Smith Cameron, and Amy Irving reprising her role as Sue Snell from Brian de Palma's Carrie. While this movie was initially a flop, it has since developed a cult following. And while it may not hold a candle to his first installment, it's still pretty damn good. What do you think? Let us know your thoughts!! Welcome to week 4 of Mother's May(hem) on Slashers Podcast! A month long event where we discuss horror films that highlight the joys and terrors of motherhood. Today Mikey, Ade and Lance discuss Scream 2, as we all know it is Billy's mother, aka Aunt Jackie, as the prolific Ghost Face killer! The film comes out in 1997, written by Kevin Williamson and directed by Wes Craven, and stars Jada Pinkett Smith, Omar Epps, Neve Campbell, Jamie Kennedy, Timothy Olyphant, Sarah Michelle Gellar, David Arquette, Courtney Cox, Elise Neal, Jerry O'Connell, Rebecca Gayheart, Portia De Rossi, Joshua Jackson, Tori Spelling, Luke Wilson, Liev Schreiber, and Laurie Metcalf - shit, did I miss anyone??? Anyway, while Scream 2 gets a lot of flack, with some feeling it's a lackluster sequel, while others feeling it doesn't live up to its predecessor, HOWEVER, listen in and find out what happened with the re-writes, with the internet leaks, and all the other drama that accompanied this sequel. Plus, it is BRUTAL. It definitely one-ups part one with some of the guts and gore, and at least we get Sydney, Gale, Dewey, and Randy back, but do they all survive??? Listen in and let us know your thoughts - what is YOUR favorite Scream aka scary movie??? If you ever have feedback or recommendations on future episodes, please let us know at slasherspod@gmail.com. Happy Monday, Goons! Join us for another new episode of Slashers Podcast with Jason, Austin and Ade. Since we've already done Gingerdead Man and Evil Bong separately, what better way to start our 3rd week of Full Moon April discussing 2013's Charles Band classic, Gingerdead Man Vs Evil Bong, starring Robin Sydney as both Sarah Lee and LuAnn from both films, and John Patrick Jordan as Larnell. The three of us aren't really sure what this film was even about, as most of it is flashbacks from the former films, but according to Google, The Gingerdead Man plans to kill Sarah Lee, the long survivor of his murderous rampage, but he is foiled when he meets Larnell and sets loose Eebee, the Evil Bong, to stop him. Hey Goons! This is our final Monday of TroMarch, so what better way to end a solid month of debauchery than with the Mickey Mouse of Troma, himself, Toxie. That's right, Doug, Jason and Ade talk all things Citizen Toxie: The Toxic Avenger Part IV. Co-written by Trent Haaga and directed by Lloyd Kaufman, this installment follows the Toxic Avenger, who must defend his friends from his own alternate universe Doppelganger, The Noxious Offender. While this one is a wonky, offensive, vomit-inducing flick, it's really funny and Ade points out that there is a social commentary, so it's all okay. As per usual, trigger warnings throughout, so watch it at your own risk. It's also a lot of fun–if you can sit through South Park, you can sit and laugh through this, too. Happy week 2 of TroMarch here on Slashers Podcast! Join Jason & Ade is they dive into 1990s Troma/ Lloyd Kaufman favorite, Def By Temptation. The film follows an evil succubus that is preying on libidinous black men in New York City, and all that stands in her way is a minister-in-training, an aspiring actor, and a cop who specializes in cases involving the supernatural. The film stars many favorites like Samuel L Jackson, Kadeem Hardison from A Different World, Bill Nunn & author Cynthia Bond as our evil seductress. The film is written & directed by James Bond III, who also plays the pious hero, Joel. But we don't just talk Troma in this episode without bringing up Gilmore Girls, which stars Sean Gunn as the whimsical Kirk, but more importantly, is James Gunn's brother who graced us with Tromeo & Juliet (one of Ade's favorites), but of course goes on to direct Marvel films. Hey Goons! Another new episode of Slashers Podcast is upon us. This month is Patreon Pick February, so if you signed up in December or have been with us a long time, you got to pick your movie. Today's Patreon Pick is from one of our long-time, most loyal listeners, Kevin, whom we absolutely adore. Kevin chose 1982's Creepshow, written by Stephen King and directed by George A Romero. This film is an anthology with 5 separate stories plus a wraparound story that stars Tom Atkins and King's son and now famous author, Joe Hill! The film itself has a star-studded cast who include Adrienne Barbeau, Leslie Nielson, Ted Danson, Hal Holbrook, Fritz Weaver, EG Marshall, Ed Harris, Stephen King, and Tom Savini. In addition, Savini does all the gory, goopy and grisly practical effects. Find out why we think this classic should be considered gateway horror for any new horror fan, as well as which segments were our favorites. Let us know yours in the comments!! Another Monday of New Year, New Zealand is upon us here on Slashers Podcast! Today's episode is yet another film by Peter Jackson, Meet the Feebles from 1989. This is another film from what Doug likes to call Peter Jackson's "Trilogy of Trash," or his second feature length film (the first being Bad Taste and the last being Dead Alive). The film follows a cast entirely made of puppets who experience the sleazier side of show business while working on a variety show. This is basically parodying The Muppet Show, except there is blood, guts, bodily fluids, flashbacks of Nam and an M60 massacre to tie it altogether. As absurd and raunchy as this flick is, find out why it's one of Doug's favorites! Let us know your thoughts on this one (currently streaming on Tubi).
