Han sonat: Sun Kil Moon , Sufjan Stevens , Father John Misty , Glass Beams , Menahan Street Band , Mayer Hawthorne , Handsome Boy Modeling School , Dub Pistols , James Yorkston i Nils Frahm.

There's no such thing as half-measures in Kid Koala land. Take, for example the recent release of Creatures of the Late-Afternoon. Most would be perfectly content to issue 20 tracks half as innovative and vibrant at this point in their career. Koala, on the other hand, created his own accompanying board game. For nearly 30 years, the Canadian DJ has pushed musical boundaries, fusing a broad range of genres together, with little regard for status quo. He's also elevated the work of others, from scores to films like Baby Driver and Scott Pilgrim, to influential projects like Deltron 3030, Lovage and Handsome Boy Modeling School. Hosted on Acast. Here we go folks, this is the episode you've been wanting to hear! Doug and Bill go into the week of wrestling like only they know how. This week they talk about wrestling while injured, Patrick Mahomes, Kyle O'Reilly, #GoAvsGo, the All Atlantic Championship, Hell In A Cell, KC dining, Primos Wrestling, New Era Pro Wrestling, Under the Banner Of Heaven, Judgment Day, Dark Side of The Ring, AEW's Women's division, fishing with your kids, and of course the association of the arrow of time with entropy or a quantum mechanical system collapsing. This and all episodes moving forward are now a part of the CPP For Peace & Prosperity Network. CPPFPAPN, is a new telecommunications group that will bring forth the next great reset. Thanks CPP For Peace & Prosperity Network, being the beacon on the hill and the light in our souls. Here are a couple of questions for you after listening: If time is moving backwards does that mean that I will eventually see Mallory and my family? Who is currently your favorite female wrestler? Who is a dumb, CM Punk or Cody Rhodes? My answers: This is what I am holding out hope for. I really like Michelle McCool. Being from the mid-west this is a slam dunk, CM Punk. We have had some points of contention, Theophiloi, but up to this point, it's mostly been about Benito's bizarre and upsetting taste in candy. This time, though, a strong candidate for the worst book we've read so far threatens to tear the show apart as a genuine undercurrent of resentment flows over how boring the second half of Jubilees is. Don't let that stop you from listening to the show, though! We promise there are some good jokes in here somewhere! Topics of discussion: burrito distractions, Carman RIP, flaming desserts and Jubilees of various types, Reverse Benjamin Button Disease, Perversity Enmity and Room, Benito making a joke that makes me legit furious, Warp Whistling past some rough stuff, Foghorn Lord of Dreams, Jahziel, some Tony Hawk jokes I should've kept in my back pocket. Hymnal: "Holy Calamity by Handsome Boy Modeling School, "Guile's Theme" by Sonya Belousova (https://www.youtube.com/c/playerpiano/) Offertory: As Enoch writes, "Whoever of you spends gold or silver for his brother's sake, he will receive ample treasure in the world to come." This week's show is built around an interview with super-producer Dan The Automator. We have been longtime fans of his luxurious approach to beatmaking. Before the chat we delve into a few of his projects, with discussion on Deltron 3030, the Lovage instrumentals, and Handsome Boy Modeling School's debut collaboration with Prince Paul and a global cast of characters. Dan gives a lot of insight about his long and varied career, from producing and recording underground hip-hop to producing rock and pop acts with immense commercial success, to scoring films like Booksmart and others. Dad Bod Rap Pod is a production of the Stony Island Podcast network.
We’ve been Prince Paul fans since we were kids, starting with his production for De La Soul’s first three albums. From Stetsasonic, Big Daddy Kane, 3rd Bass to Gravediggaz, Handsome Boy Modeling School & Dr. Octagon, this tribute takes you through some of our favorites from the Doo Doo Man’s storied career. Plus you get …
In 1998 Prince Paul linked up with Dan The Automator (Dr. Octagon, Detlron 3030) and formed Handsome Boy Modeling School based on an episode of Chris Eliot’s 90s sitcom ‘Get A Life’. They made two albums featuring everyone from DJ Shadow to Father Guido Sarducci. Paul walks us through these collaborations including amazing stories about linking up with Pharell Williams to record him in a very unlikely location and why El-P was confused by the final version of the song he recorded on. Phil Bertulfo (Rubber Spaniel, Percolator) joins the podcast to talk about the 2017 Edgar Wright film, Baby Driver. For a movie set in present day, we sure spend a lot of time talking about 90s bands like The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Handsome Boy Modeling School, REM and Beck, which leads us to talking about how we met in college. Phil also shares about how the film's use of the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion's music vindicates a failed high school talent show audition.
Influential hip hop and beyond producer/DJ/musician who changed the palette of hip hop with his wide range of source material for De La Soul's 3 Feet High and Rising and was the main creative force beyond Gravediggaz, Handsome Boy Modeling School and A Prince Among Thieves.
This mix has already been recorded and re-recorded twice and has been going for about two years. It was originally created for sunsets and quiet evenings, when you can dim the lights, fill a glass of whiskey or wine, fall into a deep chair, smoke and relax. To be in a moment alone with yourself. The final version of the mix has been waiting for a year and it so happened that the time for it came yesterday, when I played this selection on our broadcast. Now I'm sharing this mix with you all. Enjoy listening! Starbuk is a rapper out of Fairbanks, Alaska. He has recorded with everyone from Tayy Tarentino to Prince Paul of De La Soul, Gravediggaz and Handsome Boy Modeling School… not the Gorillaz as i stated earlier. That production credit goes to Paul’s Handsome Boy Modeling School partner Dan the Automator. Back to Buk, his records include 2017’s Whiskey Weed and Women, 2016’s GoldKingz with Bishop Slice, 2011’s Requiem For Tha Streets, and 2009’s Side Up. Turns out Bishop Slice was riding with him, if you’re not familiar with Slice, get familiar. I’ve wanted to interview slice for a while but I was not at all prepared, that being said I had to pull some questions out of thin air. Buk and Slice on on their way to Anchorage for Friday evenings Ja Rule concert at the Egan Center, show starts at 8. Other confirmed performers include Jay Reeder, and Frozen Founders. Think of this as an Alaskan Hip-Hop jam with a headliner.
Warning, folks: this one has a LOT of comics talk. Most of it is about comix, in fact, specifically DC's tendency to botch collected editions. Other than that, there's a bit about Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, and George has some thoughts about the pretty pretty dresses in Final Fantasy X-2. Theme song by David Cassel. Outro music: Rock N Roll (Could Never Hip Hop Like This) by Handsome Boy Modeling School

On Fresh is the Word, we like to deliver wisdom through great stories from the minds of bright creatives of pop culture. Through those stories, we like to dissect the journey of our guests and present actionable lessons and advice for our listeners no matter what career or avenue of artistry they pursue. The guests for this episode are world-renowned scratch DJ/producer Kid Koala and award-winning animator and breakdancer JonJon, recorded at this year's Toronto Comic Arts Festival (TCAF), in which they were presenting their Floor Kids video game. Floor Kids is a new breakdance battle game featuring unique freestyle gameplay, rhythm challenges, and multiplayer sessions, and during our conversation, we talked about the creation process and the evolution of this video game, along with so much more. Each episode, the guest is asked to suggest someone from their life/career that should be on Fresh is the Word that would have good stories to tell. Kid Koala chose music producer (Deltron 3030, Got a Girl, Handsome Boy Modeling School, Lovage, Dr Octagon) Dan The Automator and Canadian actor, writer, director and producer Dave Lawrence. For anyone in the throws of addiction, know, you are worth recovery. Instrumental - "Bear Witness II" by Handsome Boy Modeling School
I'm a father. It's awesome. The best! Seriously. And also simultaneously exhausting and sleepless. And complicated. But eminently worth it! This week, we here at Talkhouse salute the dads, and father figures, of music and cinema. Our Father's Day episode pairs two creative father-and-son duos; one pair defining the sound of hip hop, the others prolific film multi-hyphenates. Segment one: Prince Paul & DJ PForReal aka Paul Huston Sr. and Jr. The legendary hip-hop producer Prince Paul — known for his pioneering work with Stetsasonic, De La Soul, Handsome Boy Modeling School, Gravediggaz, BROOKZILL! and more — raised his son, DJ PForReal, in the music game. Paul Jr, DJ for rap star Lil Uzi Vert, joined his dad for today's show to discuss pushing one’s comfort zone, never taking the straight path, faking it till you make it, and what it's like when your first ever DJ gig is opening up for Wu-Tang’s GZA. Segment two: Larry Fessenden and Jack Fessenden The great horror director, producer and actor Larry Fessenden (The Last Winter, Habit) also brought his kid up in his chosen craft. Jack Fessenden, who's still a teenager (!), has already directed one feature, Stray Bullets, and is in pre-production for his next. The two sat down to chop it up on the highs and lows of coming up in a cinematic family, why Larry likes to mentor young people, and the reason Jack hasn’t seen many of his dad’s films. Check it out, and subscribe now to stay in the loop on future episodes of the Talkhouse Podcast. —Elia Einhorn, Talkhouse Podcast host and producer @eliaeinhorn Today’s episode was co-produced by Mark Yoshizumi. DJ PForReal was recorded in Atlanta by Luther Banks at Patchwerk Studios. The Talkhouse Podcast’s theme song was composed and performed by The Range.

This week, we look at the unique style of Dan The Automator with his sampling of Cos' "Ixelles" for the trip-hop song "Sunshine" from his project with Prince Paul, Handsome Boy Modeling School. That was a mouthful. Please enjoy learning about a cool lesser-known band and a quirky record producer in this season 2 finale. The assignment was to make a sonic representation of my tastes and influences. So, for my audio collage I went through all of my playlists and chose songs from each playlist that really portrayed why I like that particular style of music. Then, I did my best to narrow it down to around 20 songs that made up the history of my musical interest and inspiration. To accurately portray this, I decided to use samples from tuning an FM radio and stopping momentarily at the songs I chose. The songs and why I chose them are as follows: Philip Baily feat. Phil Collins - Easy Lover This song just happened to be the song I chose to show my love for 80s music. It might not have even been made in the 80s, but it's in that playlist and that's the song that made the cut. Janet Jackson - Escapade Showing my love for 90s music. There were a lot of songs I chose and I wish I could have added more, but it had to be less than 2 minutes. What's interesting about this song is it's something I heard growing up and forgot about for years until I heard it over the radio in a grocery store. I love those moments when you find songs you forgot about and fall in love with them all over again. Nine Inch Nails - Right Where it Belongs This song represents my love for the alternative music I grew up with. More appropriate for this style would have been Stone Temple Pilots or Nirvana, but I couldn't not feature this song because it's amazing. Journey - Girl Can't Help It Motley Crue - Primal Scream Ugly Kid Joe - Panhandlin' Prince These song represent what I refer to as "butt rock," more commonly referred to as hair bands or glam rock. This music is huge for me since, to this day, I still go to these concerts dressed like I'm in the 80s and wearing a mullet wig. Lovage - To Catch a Thief Childish Gambino - Redbone Chris Cornell - Nothing Compares to You Now we're into my "chill shit" playlist. Lovage is a big deal to me because their band represents many types of music that I love (rock, alternative, hip-hop, turntablism, etc). If you're not familiar, they are made up of Mike Patton (Faith No More), Jennifer Charles (Elysian Fields), Kid Koala, and Dan the Automator (Dr. Octagon, Gorillaz, Handsome Boy Modeling School). Pink Floyd - Time Queen - You're My Best Friend These songs represent my love for classic rock. The Queen song is also my wife and I's "song." Justin Timberlake - Last Night Miguel feat. J. Cole - All I Want is You These songs represent my love for pop, club, and R&B. Killswitch Engage - Unbroken Marilyn Manson - The Reflecting God Hard rock and metal. Kendrick Lamar - Westside Right on Time A Tribe Called Quest - Find a Way Busta Rhymes - Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Could See (performed by Z-Trip and Radar) These songs represent my love for good hip-hop and also my love for scratching and turntablism. TRU - Heaven for a Gangsta Too $hort - I'm a Player These songs represents some of the rap I listened to for a short time in high school. Rise Against - Survive There should be a lot more songs in the category but this represents the punk music I also listened to in high school. Weird fact though, I didn't learn about Rise Against till about 3 years ago, 15 years after high school. DNA/Ham - About U Darrien Kelly & The Stunned Guys - Main Muthafuckas These songs represent my introduction to electronic music and the rave scene. This happened in around 1997. I started DJ'ing this kind of music back in 2000 before moving on to Drum and Bass in 2001. DJ Funk - Hold Up Booty House, which isn't really around any more, will always have a special place in my heart. More music from back when I was introduced to the rave scene. Known Unknown - Rollers Edit Dieselboy - The Descent (Decoder Remix) Finally, these songs represent the music I've been DJ'ing for about 17 years and learning to produce for 3 or so.
We back baby (after a 3 week hiatus) and we had the honor to have a LEGEND join us! His name is Prince Paul. The guy who used to hang out with Rza and ODB in the 80's before Wu-Tang became world renowned. The guy who started as a DJ in Stetsasonic. The guy who produced on De La Soul's "3 Feet High And Rising" classic album. The guy who did "Handsome Boy Modeling School" with Dan The Automator (one of !llmind's favorite albums of all time). We can go on forever. Oh, and his son is Lil Uzi Vert's DJ too. The stories in this episode are unbelievable. And, for those asking, yes we spoke about the Drake/Pusha T stuff. It's lit.
Yooooooou waaaaant a poooooodcast, but you can't have it... Actually, you can! This week Kyle and Matthew sit down with comedian and return guest Travis Clark to talk about one of rock music's weird and wonderful oddities: Mike Patton. For the uninitiated, Mike Patton was the singer for the band Faith No More, but his back catalogue is pretty incredible. If you've been listening for a while and thought, “boy, they haven't done an episode in a while where three guys nerd out about a bunch of bands I've never heard of...” then fear not, friends, because we have an episode chocked full of music nerd goodness. Kyle points out that Mike Patton might be rock music's most brilliant grouch. Travis breaks down what it is about the singer that has made him such a cult figure for so many. Travis and Matt also point out that all of Kyle's favorite Mr. Bungle songs are terrible. It's a very fun episode and one that has been requested for quite some time, so enjoy! Ep. 199 - This week's guest is artist and Hip Hop producer extraordinaire, Dan the Automator (Deltron 3030, Gorillaz, Handsome Boy Modeling School). He's not only worked with a ton of artists over the years, but he's befriended a bunch of chefs- including David Chang, who appears on the latest Deltron 3030 album. We met up with him at a coffee shop in SF just before Outside Lands to talk all about that, plus he tells us about the time he introduced Michael Stipe to Momofuku.

I remember being at club Pay Day! back in the summer of 1988. All the dope girls and Dope boys were out in their freshest. That my first time seeing the original hip hop band Stetsasonic in the building. Little did I know their dj Prince Paul was only beginning. 3 classic De La Soul albums. Classic albums from the Grave Diggaz, Handsome Boy Modeling School. Working with legends like Big Daddy Kane; KRS-One, DOOM. One of my generations super producers, Paul walks us through his life and history. This is for the culture. #RaiseTheBar!

The Dark Stuff Podcast #104 is a continuation of the interview with Josh Haden of the band Spain from #103. In this part of the interview, Haden talks about the second and third Spain LPs, his contractual issues with Restless Records, and the initial break-up of Spain. He then discusses his solo career, his collaborations (Handsome Boy Modeling School, Sean Lennon, DJ Shadow, Blue Man Group), and the re-formation of Spain. Since the last episode was posted, Josh got in contact with me through twitter. His twitter is http://www.twitter.com/joshhaden and the band Spain's is http://www.twitter.com/spaintheband. The official website for Spain is: http://www.spaintheband.com Thanks for listening. ©2014 The Dark Stuff Podcast
Dark Stuff Podcast #103 features an interview with Josh Haden, best known for his work in the fantastic indie band, Spain. Haden's career began as a teenager when he performed in the band Trecherous Jaywalkers, who recorded for SST Records in the 1980s. After that band's dissolution, Haden decided to take his music in another direction. That other direction became the band Spain. Spain's stellar debut album, The Blue Moods of Spain, was released in 1995 to much critical acclaim. The album combined elements of jazz, pop, and indie rock into a magical and unique sound. One of the album's songs, "Spiritual" was later recorded by Johnny Cash. After a few follow-up albums, Spain went on hiatus in the early 2000s, and Haden ended up going solo. In addition to his solo career, he also collaborated with Dan the Automator, Handsome Boy Modeling School, Sean Lennon, and the Blue Man Group, among others. Spain later re-formed has released a total of seven albums (including compilations). The band's newest is called, Sargent Place. This interview was conducted sometime in 2008, and was then lost to the ages due to a computer crash. I recently recovered the file, and am presenting part one of the interview here. Part Two will follow next week. Josh Haden is the son of jazz musician, Charlie Haden, and brother to Petra Haden (that dog, The Decemberists), Rachel Haden (that dog, The Rentals), and Tanya Haden. ©2014 The Dark Stuff Podcast
