What's the secret to building discipline that actually sticks? In this Fitness Friday episode on the Habits and Hustle podcast, Congressman Wesley Hunt shares his no-nonsense approach to developing mental toughness through daily physical challenges. We discuss why sweating every single day is non-negotiable - even if it means walking five miles on a treadmill after a steak dinner. We also explore his "just do it consistently" philosophy, the power of accomplishment psychology, and why he chooses intermittent fasting and strategic workout timing over perfection. Wesley Hunt represents Congressional District 38 in Houston, Texas. A West Point graduate and former Apache helicopter pilot with three master's degrees from Cornell, Hunt served eight years in the Army before entering politics. He recently interviewed for Secretary of Defense and continues to serve on the House Judiciary and Natural Resources committees. What we discuss: The "sweat every day" rule for building discipline Why consistency beats perfection in fitness routines Using superficial goals (beach body) as legitimate motivation Michael Jordan's self-motivation mind tricks One meal a day strategy for busy travel schedules Working out between noon and 4 PM vs. morning routines Thank you to our sponsor: Momentous: Shop this link and use code Jen for 20% off Therasage: Head over to therasage.com and use code Be Bold for 15% off  TruNiagen: Head over to truniagen.com and use code HUSTLE20 to get $20 off any purchase over $100. This week, Virginia Democrats went to the polls for primaries, choosing state Senator Ghazala Hashmi as their candidate for Lieutenant Governor this fall. Sen. Hashmi joined the show to discuss her primary win, what it means for Northern Virginia residents, and how she will approach November's general election, where she will face Republican radio talk show host John Reid.Virginia voters selected Jay Jones as the Democratic nominee for Attorney General; he'll go up against incumbent Republican Jason Miyares in November. WAMU's Northern Virginia reporter Margaret Barthel got behind the mic to break down the results. Plus, she set the stage for the widely-anticipated governor's race in the fall. Margaret also previewed the Democratic firehouse primary set for later this month to fill Virginia's 11th Congressional District seat after the death of longtime Congressman Gerry Connolly. The D.C. Council is deep into budget hearings, with hundreds of residents coming out to express their views on proposed cuts, the deal to build a new football stadium, and a pitch to repeal the tipped minimum wage increase. Ward 6 Councilmember Charles Allen joined Kojo and Tom to discuss his priorities in a tight budget year. Plus, Allen weighs in on D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser's push for stricter youth curfew laws. The bill calls for an 11 p.m. citywide summer curfew for 17-year-olds or younger. Currently, the curfew starts at midnight and applies to those 16 or younger. The proposal also would allow D.C. police to create special zones where the curfew could be set as early as 7 p.m. for 15 consecutive days. However, Councilmember Allen questioned the strategy."Are we pulling away MPD resources to go enforce a curfew that we need them in other places,?" he asked.Allen also said a tougher curfew shouldn't be passed as emergency legislation and without public hearings. The Council is expected to consider it early next month.Send us questions and comments for guests: kojo@wamu.orgFollow us on Instagram: instagram.com/wamu885Follow us on Bluesky: bsky.app/wamu.org

Fields questions about Social Security, military parade Rep. Mike Lawler, whose district includes Philipstown, held a town hall on June 8 at Mahopac High School, the third in a series of four he has promised constituents. After being introduced by Kevin Byrne, the Putnam County executive, Lawler spent two hours fielding questions about the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which passed the U.S. House, 215-214, with Lawler's support and is being amended by the Senate. In addition to tax cuts and an increase to the cap on deductions for state and local taxes, the legislation contains changes to programs like Medicaid and food stamps that are expected to lead to a loss of benefits for some enrollees. Lawler also fielded questions about Social Security, cuts to foreign aid and the estimated $45 million price tag for a military parade being held in Washington, D.C., on Saturday (June 14), which is President Donald Trump's birthday. Below are some of Lawler's statements and a review of statistics he cited. "We [New York] spend 83 percent more on Medicaid than the average of the other 49 states." According to data from KFF (formerly the Kaiser Family Foundation), Medicaid spending in New York totaled just under $98 billion in 2023, second only to California. The spending was 83.77 percent more than the average for the other 49 states. However, the average does not account for each state's population. Wyoming, for example, has 588,000 residents, compared to 20 million in New York. It also means using costs in states that, unlike New York, opted out of a provision in the Affordable Care Act to expand Medicaid so that more people qualify; the federal government pays 90 percent of the additional cost. Alternative methods to measure Medicaid spending among the states include per-capita or per-enrollee. According to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, New York ranked fourth in per-capita Medicaid spending in 2022 ($11,203), behind North Dakota, Minnesota and Pennsylvania. The national average was $8,919. New York placed third among states in Medicaid spending per enrollee in 2021 ($9,688), according to KFF. Virginia and Minnesota had the highest per-enrollee spending. "If [the Tax Cut and Jobs Act] expired, it would have been about a $4,000 increase in taxes on the average family in our district." The Tax Cut and Jobs Act, passed in 2017 during the first Trump administration, expires this year. If it is not extended by Congress, taxes will increase in the 17th Congressional District, on average, by $3,530, according to the Tax Foundation, a think tank founded in 1937 that analyzes tax policy. Drilling down to specific income levels with a calculator created by the Tax Foundation (dub.sh/tax-calculator), annual taxes would increase by $933 for a single person without dependents who earns $50,000 annually, and by $2,622 for an individual earning $100,000. Taxes would increase by $5,091 annually for a married couple with two children and a household income of $150,000; the same couple earning $250,000 would owe $9,320 more. Those scenarios omit 401(k) contributions and other deductions, but the calculator can adjust for those, as well as other household sizes. "There are over 3 million people in this country who are able-bodied adults, without dependents, who refuse to work." Lawler is referring to Medicaid coverage. A provision in the House's version of the One Big Beautiful Bill requires that able-bodied recipients between ages 19 and 64 who don't have dependents work at least 80 hours monthly or be participating in a "qualifying activity," such as job training. The work requirement would increase the ranks of the uninsured by 4.8 million people by 2034, according to the Congressional Budget Office. Although the CBO did not specify why people would lose coverage, Republicans have equated the figure with people who chose not to work. According to the KFF, 64 percent of the 26.1 million adults between ages 19 and 64 receiving Medic...

Deja Foxx was raised by a single mom in Tucson, Arizona. As a free lunch kid in public schools, her family relied on SNAP benefits, Section 8 housing, and Medicaid to make ends meet. Having experienced homelessness because of her mother's struggles with substance abuse, she balanced high school classes with long nights working at a gas station. Deja found her first fight advocating for better sex education in Tucson schools where she organized a campaign of student storytellers, delivering a win for tens of thousands of students who until then had been learning a curriculum last updated in the 1980s. She later went viral for confronting then-Senator Jeff Flake after he voted to strip her and millions of other women of their access to essential birth control funding. Teen Vogue selected her as a member of their 21 Under 21 class of 2018, and Forbes named her to the 30 under 30 list in 2024. ORIGINAL AIR DATE: JAN 29, 2014People in the world often reject Christianity simply because they can't distinguish it from mere morality. The world needs morality--oppression thrives when consciences are abandoned--but we need more than that alone. We need the gospel of grace. A gospel that has largely been lost amid the dos and don'ts and preoccupations of religious culture.  People often pit grace against moralism. And they should. Moralism circumvents heart-changed morality. We need moral men and women, but moralism damages the foundation of heart-change.  It's okay to pit grace against moralism, but let's not pit grace against morality. Grace is the source of real morality, and grace--thank God!--breaks the bars of moralism that imprison us.Is Sunday School Destroying Our Kids? by author Samuel C. The Trump team is getting inventive about playing off bad ecconomic numbers as good. It's likely hard for Trump, who made promises to voters about his economic prowess, to admit that the US economy just had its worst quarter since 2022. Economists blame Trump's significant policy changes for shaking up consumers and businesses. We welcome Ambassador Francis Rooney to The Mark Thompson Show. He served in Congress representing Florida's 19th Congressional District and served as the U.S. Ambassador to the Holy See, under President George W. Bush. We'll ask Ambassador Rooney what Trump's American foreign policy should look like. Former federal prosecutor and now defense attorney, David Katz joins us. He will discuss the Supreme Court's upcoming decision on whether religious schools can be funded with taxpayer dollars.

Proxy Voting: The Controversy Shutting Down Congress

Mark Levin Podcast

On Tuesday's Mark Levin Show, a Republican congresswoman pushed for proxy voting for pregnant women, but the vast majority of Republicans don't believe in proxy voting. Show up or don't vote. 9 Republicans got upset and voted with Democrats, which canceled votes for the week. A tiny minority shouldn't be able to derail President Trump's priorities. We can't have this constant blackmail. They have a budget bill to pass, and they need to get massive tax cuts in place. The key to economic growth in an environment like this is tax cuts - big, broad, tax cuts.  It's the only way to either prevent or limit the life of a recession.  The Democrats drove the economy into hyperinflation by printing paper.  Tax cuts don't print anything, they actually create real, earned, tangible wealth. It's money created by the private sector for the private sector, not the bloated, corrupt government and its fraudulent spending.  Any Republican who slows or opposes huge across-the-board tax cuts is a fool.  Pass the Trump tax cuts and do it as fast as possible! Also, Wisconsin and Florida have special elections today. Randy Fine wins in the 6th Congressional District in Florida. Jimmy Patronis wins in the 1st Congressional District in Florida. Those are 2 big wins for Florida and the country. If the liberal judge wins in Wisconsin, it will effectively become a one-party state. Later, China's threats to Taiwan mean we should arm Taiwan with missiles to strike back, not just defend. Taiwan must be ready, learning from Ukraine and Israel, to hit the enemy effectively. Afterward, judicial tyranny continues -  these judges are being used as weapons to threaten and stop President Trump. Trump and Elon Musk are doing the absolute best that they can to fix the country, and they are calling him a dictator. How is he a dictator? How many dictators reduce the amount of people who work for him?  Finally, Dina and Dave McCormick call in to discuss their new book - Who Believed in You: How Purposeful Mentorship Changes the World. America's Public Land Crisis: Too Much Federal Control, Too Little Freedom

When the federal government controls over 70% of the land in Utah, it's not just a policy issue—it's a crisis for rural communities trying to survive and thrive. In this episode of American Potential, host David From sits down with Congresswoman Celeste Maloy, who represents Utah's 2nd Congressional District and brings a rare combination of real-world experience—as a former soil conservationist and public lands attorney—to one of the biggest underreported issues facing the American West: federal land control. They explore how Washington's top-down management of public lands has led to economic decline, lost jobs, and broken communities throughout the West. What was once land of opportunity is now tied up in red tape, blocked access, and one-size-fits-all mandates from bureaucrats who've never set foot in these towns. Maloy breaks down how we got here—from early land grants and homesteading to the Federal Land Policy and Management Act of 1976—and why the West was promised local control but got federal overreach instead. If you believe in local decision-making, respect for property rights, and free people shaping their own future, this episode is a powerful look at what's gone wrong—and how we can start to fix it.

On Monday's Mark Levin Show, publishing classified information violates the Espionage Act, yet Jeffrey Goldberg, who has suggested he has published classified information, faces no apparent consequences. Despite confessing his awareness and emphasizing the information's classified nature, the lack of accountability—coupled with efforts to exaggerate an insignificant Signal chat—raises questions about the legal consistency.  Nothing happened as a result of this Signal chat, but Democrats are attempting to spin it into something significant that it isn't. Also, Sen Chuck Grassley introduced legislation to clarify the scope of Judicial relief. “The bill would limit federal court orders to parties directly before the court – ending the practice of universal injunctions and clarifying the constitutional role of the judicial branch.” This needs to be done.  Later, Randy Fine calls in to discuss the importance of Tuesday's special election in Florida's 6th Congressional District, urging Floridians to treat it as a national election due to its potential impact on the whole country. Afterward, Elon Musk revealed that over 4.8 million noncitizens have received Social Security numbers since fiscal year 2021 under the Biden administration, with a significant spike to 2.1 million in 2024 alone. 1.3 million of these noncitizens were also on Medicaid, and some may have even voted. In addition, Democrats know what they stand for – they support socialism, open borders, a weak military, and electoral fraud, but their challenge lies in the lack of American public support for these positions. Rather than rethinking their stance, they are focused on finding better ways to sell their agenda – these are the American Marxism. Finally, Mark explains the biggest problem with Marxism. Activist Judges and Their Impact on Trump's Policies

On Wednesday's Mark Levin Show, the Democrat media and Democrats are desperately trying to create a scandal with the Atlantic, Signal story. There is no scandal. There was no threat to our armed forces or the ongoing mission. President Trump will get to the bottom of it. More attention has been devoted to the Signal story than to the 13 courageous soldiers who lost their lives during Biden's horrific Afghanistan withdrawal. We're bombing the hell out of the Houthis and we're not getting many reports on it. Later, a group filed a lawsuit over the Trump administration's Signal group chat, and it was amazingly assigned to Judge Boasberg - the same judge hearing the deportation case. This case should be thrown out because the group doesn't have standing.   Also, it's illogical that a single district court judge, at the lowest level, can issue an order impacting the entire nation, while a lone Supreme Court justice lacks similar authority. Although appeals are an option, the process can drag on for years, exacerbating the issue. To address this imbalance, the Supreme Court should take up one of these cases and provide a definitive resolution. Afterward, Randy Fine calls in to discuss his special election campaign in Florida's 6th Congressional District, where the outcome could significantly impact Trump's agenda. Fine is prepared to enact legislation to support Trump's policy goals. In addition, Dr Elaine Healy joins the show, she exposed Andrew Cuomo's directive to put COVID patients in nursing homes on this show 5 years ago.  Finally, YAF President Scott Walker joins the show to highlight the significance of the Wisconsin Supreme Court election. He warns that a liberal victory could lead to redrawn congressional districts, eliminating two Republican seats. Should Republicans lose both this race and the Florida congressional seat Democrats might gain control of the House of Representatives. Learn more about your ad choices.
