Cette semaine, l'humour et la religion peuvent-ils coexister? Bonjour Stéphane. Bonjour Joan.   L'humour selon Martin Luther [Joan] J'aime bien ce sujet qu'on a choisi, d'abord parce qu'il colle un petit peu à une certaine réalité de mon ministère, dans le canton de Vaud, en Suisse romande, mais aussi parce que finalement ça m'a permis d'aller chercher un peu du côté des propos de table de Luther. Alors évidemment, ce sont des propos de table, ils n'ont pas vraiment, on pourrait dire, une densité théologique ou académique profonde. On imagine aussi qu'un certain nombre de disciples de Luther ont un petit peu glosé autour de sa personne, mais j'aime bien quand même. Ce qui se dit : « Pareille aventure arriva un jour à un certain pasteur, Ambroise Herr. Comme il exhortait ses paroissiens à venir écouter assidûment la parole de Dieu (bon là je vous raconte une blague de Luther, bien sûr), ils lui dirent : « Ah, cher monsieur le pasteur, si vous installiez un tonneau de bière au milieu de votre église, et que vous nous faisiez appeler, vous verriez comme nous arriverions. » Bon, c'est un style un peu vieux jeu, mais c'est Luther qui, sous couvert de la blague, encourageait les pasteurs de son époque à servir à boire de la bière pour intéresser les gens, parce que bon, la prédication, on est d'accord, ça intéresse un peu, mais la bière un peu plus. Donc ça déjà, c'est l'humour tout particulier de Luther qui tourne quand même beaucoup autour de la bière. Et puis maintenant, es-tu intéressé de connaître les qualités et caractères que doit avoir un bon prédicateur d'après Luther dans les propos de table? Là vraiment, on est tout à fait au niveau des sources, on est bon. « Voici les qualités et caractères que doit avoir un bon prédicateur. Premièrement, être capable d'enseigner les gens avec une belle rigueur et une belle méthode. Deuxièmement, avoir la tête bien faite. Troisièmement, être éloquent. Quatrièmement, avoir une bonne voix. Cinquièmement, une bonne mémoire. Sixièmement, savoir s'arrêter. Et attention, septièmement, être sûr de son fait et y mettre tout son zèle. Huitièmement, risquer sa santé, sa vie, son bien et son honneur. Neuvièmement, se laisser tourmenter et tourner en ridicule par n'importe qui. » Est-ce que, par hasard, Luther nous encouragerait à avoir un sens de l'humour très, très, très profond? Un sens de l'autodérision? Un sens d'accueillir un petit peu les choses qui se disent sur lui, Luther, sur nous, les pasteurs, sur Jésus et la Bible? Je me le demande.   L'humour peut exister à l'intérieur de nos Églises [Stéphane] Je crois que pour être pasteur, il faut avoir un peu d'autodérision. Il ne faut pas trop se prendre au sérieux tout le temps. L'humour fait partie de l'expérience humaine de toutes les civilisations. On dirait que pour certaines personnes, lorsqu'on arrive dans le domaine religieux, il faut être sérieux. Il ne faut pas sourire. Il faut être austère, toujours dans la pénitence. Mais pourquoi? Je vais te donner un exemple. Chez les Anglo-Saxons, en Amérique du Nord, il y a ce qu'on appelle le « Humour Sunday ». C'est grosso modo le dimanche de l'humour, un dimanche humoristique. Mais on tient toujours à préciser que c'est de l'humour saint, ce n'est pas quelque chose de vulgaire. Non, non, non, c'est religieux, c'est propre. Mais tant qu'à faire ça, pourquoi le fait-on? Je pense qu'il y a une place pour rire. Il y a une place pour avoir du plaisir. Il y a une place même pour faire un peu de satire, un peu de caricature. Et je ne comprends pas pourquoi on ne se permet pas ça.   L'humour du carnaval de Bâle [Joan] Alors, comme j'exerce en Suisse, je me suis intéressée un petit peu au carnaval de Bâle. Je suis originaire plutôt de Strasbourg et de sa région, donc pas très loin de Bâle. J'étais déjà au Carnaval de Bâle quand j'étais petite. Il y a toutes sortes de traditions là-bas. Il y avait une émission de RTS, donc notre radio en Suisse, sur le Carnaval de Bâle. C'était vachement bien parce que c'était avec la collègue francophone de Bâle qui expliquait des tas de choses aux journalistes. Notamment, une des choses qu'elle a expliqué, que j'ai trouvé très, très intéressante, c'est que c'est un carnaval en terre réformée, et donc ça veut dire qu'en fait le peuple a refusé de renoncer à son carnaval, puisque c'était à la réformation, qu'on a interdit les carnavals, mais le peuple bâlois a dit non, non, non, c'est le nôtre, on le garde. Et justement, pour que ce ne soit pas  identifié comme un carnaval catholique, ça a lieu une semaine après le carnaval catholique. Ça déjà, c'est très marrant. La pasteure Evelyne Zinsstag nous a dit que c'est une semaine après les carnavals catholiques, exprès pour se moquer d'eux. Ça, c'est marrant. C'est vrai que la réforme en 1525, comme je disais, a théoriquement interdit les festivités catholiques. Mais celui-là de carnaval est devenu une célébration plutôt satirique, davantage qu'une fête religieuse. C'est animé par des groupes de gens qui s'appellent des cliques, qui se réunissent toute l'année, qui se préparent, enfin c'est une brise communautaire très forte. Ils utilisent des, attention si je vais réussir à le dire schnitzelbank: ce sont des petits poèmes satiriques, pour moquer entre autres la politique, les figures religieuses. Il y a plusieurs règles au carnaval. Il y a des mots qu'on doit utiliser, d'autres qu'on ne doit pas utiliser. C'est très codifié. La règle principale, c'est qu'on est libre de dire tout ce qu'on veut pendant le carnaval de Bâle. Les gens se tutoient dans la rue, causent ensemble, tous les sujets de conversation sont ouverts. J'ai trouvé ça super intéressant de découvrir cette liberté de parole, de satire, et surtout d'une satire qui peut toucher aussi au religieux. Alors cette année, je crois qu'il y a eu pas mal d'effigies de Trump, mais d'autres années, ça a pu être les différents papes, parce qu'on a un carnaval réformé, donc si on veut, on se moque des papes. C'est OK et ça fait du bien à la population, les gens se réunissent autour de ça.   L'humour est toujours contextuel [Stéphane] Le Québec a hérité de la tradition française, de la satire, mais aussi de la tradition britannique. On peut penser au Monty Python, par exemple, à The Life of Brian, la vie de Brian. Et je crois que ça paraît dans notre relation à la religion. Pendant très longtemps, la religion catholique romaine a été toute puissante. Mais maintenant, la religion n'occupe plus la même place dans la société: on est capable d'avoir ce regard critique, ce regard humoristique sur les institutions, sur la Bible. Moi, je suis de la génération qui a connu le groupe RBO. J'aime bien, lorsqu'on voit Jésus revenir sur terre aujourd'hui pour faire de la pub d'une rôtisserie de poulet. Je peux comprendre que c'est très contextuel. Le danger, c'est que je peux décider pour moi ce que je trouve rigolo, ce que je trouve acceptable. Il y a peut-être des choses qui me dérangent. Mais je ne crois pas qu'on puisse imposer son humour, comme on ne peut pas imposer sa théologie ou sa vision de l'Église à l'ensemble de la population. Moi, je crois qu'on peut rire, on peut utiliser la satire, on peut utiliser la caricature pour dénoncer certaines choses. D'autres personnes, ça les dérange et je pense qu'il faut accepter cette diversité-là.   Notre-Dame des courants d'air [Joan] Est-ce que tu connais Louis de Funès? Un film dans lequel il a joué, je ne me rappelle plus très bien du nom du film, mais l'extrait que j'aime beaucoup c'est Notre-Dame des courants d'air. Tu vois de quoi je parle? C'est génial, c'est vraiment génial. Je pourrais regarder cet extrait sans fin. À chaque fois je me laisse surprendre par le curé dans sa vieille église française, laquelle est complètement en train de tomber en ruine. Je ne sais pas si on est après-guerre. Il doit y avoir des raisons. Il a un organiste qui se fout complètement de sa gueule du début à la fin. Bon, du reste, le curé n'est pas toujours tendre avec son organiste. Mais l'organiste, c'est vraiment marrant, comme progressivement, au fur et à mesure qu'il arrive des histoires à ce curé dans son église pendant sa prédication, l'organiste, il se lâche de plus en plus. Finalement, il est de plus en plus irrévérencieux parce qu'il est mort de rire. Le curé s'obstine à monter en chaire alors que sa chaire se casse la gueule. Elle part en avant, elle part en arrière. Il n'arrive plus à ouvrir sa porte pour rentrer dans sa chaire. Il passe par-dessus, mais après il est coincé dedans. Alors il se plaint, pendant sa prédication il se plaint, il dit qu'il a rêvé qu'il allait voir saint Pierre, et que saint Pierre lui disait « Ah, c'est vous le curé? Ah bah oui, on connaît bien votre église, elle s'appelle Notre-Dame des courants d'air. » Alors le curé explique que le toit, ça goutte de partout. Il explique qu'il fait froid, que c'est moche, qu'il n'en peut plus, que sa chaire se casse la gueule, mais en même temps il s'obstine à prêcher en chaire. C'est complètement délirant. Et à force de marteler, de tempêter sur sa condition, la bavoie de la chaire, poum!, lui tombe sur la tête et ça l'empêche de terminer sa prédication dans laquelle, en fait, il ne délivrait rien d'intéressant, pas du tout un message évangélique. Il ne faisait que se plaindre. Et puis il y a Louis de Funès, dans les bancs, qui dit « Je ne reviendrai plus ». Ça me fait vraiment rire parce que j'ai un peu l'impression que des fois on est un peu comme ça dans nos églises, qui sont dans l'état dans lequel parfois elles sont. Des fois elles sont dans un état très intéressant, d'autres dans un état assez inquiétant. On est là à se plaindre parce que c'est quoi ça? Et on se moque de nous, comment est-ce qu'on parle de Jésus? En fait, l'un de ces quatre, la bavoie va nous tomber sur la tête et puis ce sera fini. On n'aura plus d'audience. On n'aura plus rien du tout puisqu'on aura fini par énerver tout le monde comme Louis de Funès.   L'humour pour amorcer une réflexion sur la Bible [Stéphane] Je pense que l'humour peut aussi être utilisé pour aider les gens à se questionner ou réfléchir sur certains aspects des récits bibliques. Par exemple, une des blagues que j'aime bien utiliser, c'est Jésus qui marche sur les eaux; Pierre sort de la barque, commence à couler dans l'eau et dit, « Jésus, sauve-moi, aide-moi! ». Et Jésus se retourne vers Pierre et dit: « Pierre, marche sur les roches. » Ça illustre cette question. Comment quelqu'un peut-il marcher sur l'eau? Est-ce qu'il y avait un truc? Est-ce que c'est comme un tour de magie aujourd'hui? On voit des prestidigitateurs ou des illusionnistes faire des trucs comme ça. C'est comme le récit de la Pentecôte, le livre des Actes des Apôtres, chapitre 2. Pierre commence à prophétiser et les gens disent, « ah, il doit être ivre, il a bu du bon vin. » Et là, il répond, « Non, nous ne sommes pas ivres parce qu'il est seulement 9 heures du matin. » Pourquoi cette référence? Pourquoi les auteurs ont-ils dit « Ah non, ça, c'est important de dire qu'il est 9h du matin », comme s'il n'y avait jamais eu personne dans l'histoire de l'humanité qui était ivre à 9h du matin? C'est peut-être un peu absurde ce qui se passe. On a un clin d'œil, il ne faut pas prendre ça au pied de la lettre. Je pense qu'il y a quelque chose à faire avec ces textes-là pour aider les personnes à mieux comprendre le texte et de voir, bon, peut-être qu'il ne faut pas trop se prendre au sérieux.   Jésus était capable d'utiliser la satire [Joan] Justement, ne pas trop se prendre au sérieux, prendre les paroles de Jésus au sérieux. Il y a cet extrait en Matthieu 5, les versets 29-30, quand Jésus dit « Si ton œil droit est pour toi une occasion de chute, arrache-le. Si ta main droite est pour toi une occasion de chute, coupe-la. » Je me rappelle, il y a un prof en cours qui nous avait vraiment expliqué que c'était en fait une fonction hyperbolique. Jésus exagère parce qu'il est entouré aussi de gens qui comprennent la loi d'une façon absurde, qui poussent le concept de la loi. C'est quelque chose que l'on remarque à la lecture des Évangiles. Jésus ne s'intéresse pas du tout à cette lecture absurde de la Loi, même s'il dit « Pourquoi tu me touches? » ou bien « Je ne suis pas là pour le petit chien ». Après il se rend compte qu'au cours de la rencontre, il y a beaucoup plus important que la loi et c'est la grâce en fait, c'est cette grâce de la rencontre. On nous avait expliqué que c'est vraiment humoristique, c'est hyperbolique, c'est en fait pour pousser le bouchon. Jésus était capable comme ça d'une forme d'ironie aussi, et qu'il fallait l'intelligence de la foi pour l'enseigner actuellement. Jésus a dit que si je regarde un mec qui fait du jogging, il ne faut pas que je m'arrache l'œil, quoi. Alors ça paraît tomber sous le sens, et en même temps, on n'est pas obligé d'aller regarder dans les sectes des autres religions, mais regarder dans nos sectes à nous. On voit bien certains nationalismes chrétiens qui poussent certains concepts de façon absolue. On voit bien la peine de mort qui continue à être utilisée de façon abusive. Enfin, on comprend très bien que les versets bibliques pourraient aussi être utilisés de façon abusive, au lieu d'y voir des traits d'humour, d'y voir des ressorts pour entrer en conversation.   L'humour qui sert à dénoncer [Stéphane] Je t'écoute et ça me fait penser au sketch du groupe Les Inconnus, Jésus 2. Ils imaginent que Sylvester Stallone a fait un film sur la vie de Jésus et ils ont emprunté les codes des films de Sylvester Stallone. Oui, c'est une critique sociale sur la société américaine et j'y vois aussi une critique des personnes qui imaginent un Jésus tout-puissant, très fort, qui impose sa volonté. Si moi je veux un Christ fort, je vais trouver les citations, je vais trouver les traditions, puis c'est le Christ fort, c'est le Christ presque macho, presque masculiniste. Je pense que l'humour peut dénoncer ces mouvements d'appropriation du message du Christ pour satisfaire leurs agendas personnels ou leurs vues.   La couverture du journal Réformés de mars 2026 [Joan] Ce qui m'a donné envie de faire cet épisode avec toi, c'est très clairement les discussions autour de la couverture de notre journal protestant qui s'appelle Réformés. Vous pouvez tout trouver online. Il y a une couverture qui a été proposée pour mars, mars 2026, d'un célèbre dessinateur roman qui est très, très connu, qui s'appelle Barrigue. Ce qui est marrant, c'est que Barrigue, il y a une trentaine d'années, avait fait un calendrier avec plein de dessins rigolos autour des évangiles et un nombre incalculable de catéchumènes vaudois, pour leur confirmation, ont reçu un exemplaire de ce calendrier parce que c'était des scènes quand même bibliques, mais croquées avec humour. Donc Barrigue, il a un lien comme ça à la communauté protestante, on le voit bien depuis très longtemps. Ce numéro portait sur les régionalismes romans, c'est-à-dire la façon dont chaque canton roman se comprend. Donc, il y a le canton de Neufchâtel, il y a le canton de Genève, le canton de Vaud, le canton du Valais, d'une certaine façon, dans une certaine mesure, aussi Fribourg qui est un petit peu francophone, et puis plus loin, on a un petit peu Berne aussi qui est un peu francophone. Comment est-ce que chacun, chacune se situe là-dedans? Quels sont les régionalismes? Le dessin de la couverture, c'est Jésus qui rompt du pain, mais qui commence par les trognons. Ses disciples s'en mêlent, comme on les voit tout le temps dans l'Évangile se mêler de tout. Il y en a un qui dit non, c'est croupion, et l'autre qui dit non, c'est le crotchon, parce que tout ça, ce sont des régionalismes. Et puis Jésus tranche et dit bon, alors c'est du pain. Quand on regarde ça et qu'on est étrangère comme moi, on voit juste un dessin mignon qui rappelle qu'un peu partout, probablement, on appelle le pain différemment, surtout si c'est, entre guillemets, le cul du pain. Est-ce qu'on dit le quignon? Est-ce qu'on a chacun un peu son terme? Comme l'a dit le rédacteur en chef, Joël Burri, que je salue, il a trouvé le dessin tendre. C'est vrai que ces histoires de quignon, de pain, ça me ramène à l'enfance quand je demandais à ma tante qui me gardait, quand on venait chercher la baguette et je lui demandais: le quignon, je peux l'avoir? Elle me disait: tu veux le cul du pain? Voilà. Ma tante d'ailleurs était catholique, très pratiquante.  C'est ce que j'ai pensé comme étrangère. En fait pas du tout; il y a vraiment beaucoup de gens qui y ont été touchés, heurtés, qui ont écrit, ça a créé des remous, des discussions. C'est vrai que si ça heurte des gens, c'est intéressant de le prendre en compte, de discuter avec eux et elles. Quoi, qui vous a heurté? Comment est-ce qu'on peut éviter ça?  Le rédacteur en chef a dit qu'il allait présenter des excuses. Moi, ce qui m'intéresse le plus, c'est la discussion que j'ai eue spontanément avec Marysol. Elle est étudiante de théologie, elle va être pasteure. Tu sais qu'un jour elle sera notre chef aussi. En fait, elle est très luthérienne dans sa théologie. Elle m'a dit « mais moi, je trouve ce dessin mignon et surtout, ça me rappelle que Pierre, en fait, aimait contredire Jésus. » Et donc elle a même vu une espèce de véracité biblique là-dedans. J'ai trouvé ça dingue. Moi, je n'avais pas pensé à ça du tout. Je pensais à ma tante et à la baguette chaude. On voit qu'elle est encore en études. Je lui dis « Ah bon, mais peux-tu m'en dire un peu plus, Marysol? » Elle m'a dit « Ben oui, regarde, Pierre il contredit Jésus en Matthieu 16, verset 22. » Alors, je vous lis ça. « À partir de ce moment, Jésus commença à montrer à ses disciples qu'il lui fallait aller à Jérusalem, souffrir beaucoup de la part des anciens, des chefs des prêtres et des spécialistes des Écritures, être tué et le troisième jour ressuscité. Pierre le prend à part et commence à lui faire des reproches. « Dieu t'en garde, Seigneur! »  « Non, cela ne t'arrivera pas! » Mais Jésus s'est retourné et dit à Pierre « Va-t'en, passe derrière moi, Satan! Tu es un obstacle sur ma route, car tes pensées ne sont pas celles de Dieu, mais celles des êtres humains. » Comment est-ce qu'on est passé d'une baguette chaude de pain à arrière Satan ? Alors là, c'est la magie de la théologie. C'est vrai que j'ai trouvé que c'était vraiment un point de vue très lumineux, très mignon, de dire que ces disciples qui contredisent Jésus, c'est très biblique, en fait.   Éviter de niveler par le bas [Stéphane] La différence d'opinions entre les personnes est quelque chose de normal. Mais pourquoi vouloir imposer son point de vue aux autres? Ça me fait penser aux personnes qui sont d'allégeance intégriste ou fondamentaliste. Ces personnes croient pouvoir déterminer la ligne pour toutes les personnes. Juste un exemple. Il y a plusieurs années, j'avais mis ce qu'on appelle en anglais un « comic strip », comme une espèce de bande dessinée en trois ou quatre cases, où on avait Jésus qui disait à une personne « tiens, mange ceci, parce que c'est mon corps. » Et la personne fixe Jésus et lui répond « tu es vraiment weird, Jésus » parce que la personne prenait ça au premier degré, comme certaines personnes des fois prennent les choses au premier degré. J'avais mis ça sur mon Facebook. Un de mes paroissiens avait vu ça, plainte à la paroisse, demande de retirer ça parce que c'était un sacrilège tout ça. Je l'ai fait parce que je ne voulais pas me battre infiniment pour des questions de liberté de conscience. Je l'ai retiré. Mais ma réflexion à ce moment-là, c'était, doit-on toujours niveler par le bas? Doit-on toujours aller au plus bas dénominateur commun? Doit-on toujours se demander si, d'un coup, une personne pourrait peut-être être offensée? Ah non, non, non, on ne le fera pas. Mais on ne peut pas avancer comme ça. On ne peut pas donner un droit de veto à 3 milliards d'êtres humains sur Terre. Il faut parfois oser. Il faut peut-être transgresser. Il y a des gens qui vont être heurtés. Il y a des gens qui vont apprécier. Oui, ça vient avec des risques, mais il n'y a pas de risque si on ne fait rien. Si on fait quelque chose, on fait avancer les choses. Il faut savoir mettre les choses en perspective. Si quelqu'un aime bien l'humour, si quelqu'un fait une blague ou une réflexion ou une caricature ou quelque chose de satirique de bonne foi, je pense qu'il faut accorder un peu de marge de manœuvre.  Lorsqu'on veut délibérément blesser autrui, bon, là, c'est une autre histoire. Mais si je vais juste raconter une blague qui ne blesse personne, qui n'est pas raciste, qui n'est pas homophobe, je pense qu'il faut voir le bon sens des choses.   Conclusion [Joan] En tout cas, ce qui est sûr, c'est que j'aime beaucoup toutes ces traditions de carnaval. J'aime beaucoup le fait qu'il existe un carnaval réformé, qui soit une semaine après le carnaval catholique, et pendant lequel on a le droit de dire un peu tout ce qu'on veut. Et je me demande si on ne pourrait pas étendre cette période de carnaval un peu plus longtemps dans l'Église, de façon à ce qu'on puisse un peu plus se faire des blagues, tout en étant aussi prêt, prête à, comme tu l'as dit, reconnaître de bonne fois qu'on s'est un peu trompé, qu'on a manqué notre cible. Mais on cherche et on continue, parce que finalement j'aimerais quand même rappeler à tout le monde que Luther a dit que c'était l'une des qualités nécessaires pour être pasteur. Donc moi je prends ça très au sérieux. [Stéphane| Luther le dit, il faut le faire. (Joan] Il faut le faire. Alors je me demande aussi si nos auditrices et auditeurs ont un avis sur ces questions-là. Episode 274- State Police RPO Cover-Up  Also Available OnSearchable Podcast Transcript Gun Lawyer — Episode Transcript Gun Lawyer Transcript – Episode 274 SPEAKERS Teddy Nappen, Evan Nappen, Speaker 2 Evan Nappen 00:17 I’m Evan Nappen. Teddy Nappen 00:19 and I’m Teddy Nappen. Evan Nappen 00:21 And welcome to Gun Lawyer. So, our good friend, John Petrolino, who writes about many, many important topics, particularly as well concerning New Jersey, has an article that was in Bearing Arms. And I want to talk about what he’s raised here. The article’s title is “New Jersey State Police Tight Lipped Over Retired Police Permits”. (https://bearingarms.com/john-petrolino/2026/01/21/new-jersey-statepolice-tight-lipped-over-retired-police-permits-n1231288) So, what John has done is he’s used the New Jersey form of OPRA (Open Public Records Act), the Freedom of Information Act, asking the authorities in New Jersey for the number of permits issued to retired police officers. Evan Nappen 01:15 You may recall the then Attorney General Platkin did put up that dashboard and released the data of public statistics regarding carry permits, the number of permits issued. There’s been over 92,000 approved applications for carry permits in New Jersey, and of those approvals, 64,000 are non-expired permits. Now it’s interesting that the State puts out that data, but they don’t put out the data as to the RPO permits. The Retired Police Officer permits, and we want to find out how many folks carry that are not law enforcement, right? That are civilian. And let’s face it, Retired Police Officers are still civilians, even though they were formerly law enforcement. Originally carry was outside of being law enforcement and outside of New Jersey’s insane carry permit system back then, where you had to show “justifiable need”, which, as you may recall, meant showing of urgent necessity. This meant showing that a gun was necessary for you to defend yourself from death or serious bodily injury and that carrying a handgun was the only means that could do it. I mean, it was a standard that was so extreme that basically, if you’ve been shot and killed, you then qualified for a New Jersey carry permit. Evan Nappen 03:08 Now that went away thanks to the Bruen decision, and New Jersey jumped from less than 600 carry permits to now 64,000 valid permits and 92,000 valid, approved permits. But it does not include the RPOs. Now, RPOs had the ability to carry before Bruen, and during that time period when regular old civilians who weren’t retired law enforcement could not defend themselves with a firearm and carry in that manner, right? They were deemed to have to be victims instead of defenders. But now, for some reason, the State Police and such will not release the number of RPO permits. We’re not asking for names. John went forward here, and he didn’t ask for names. He didn’t ask for anything. He just wants to know how many? How many of the RPO permits are out there as well. This should be looked at in the aggregate with all the other carry permits that are out there, and yet that doesn’t happen. Page of 1 8 Evan Nappen 04:25 In December of 2025, John sent a request for the number of RPO permits, and it was denied. And the request was denied weirdly and strangely for reasons that just don’t make any sense. And I’m going to tell you. It makes you wonder, why is there a cover up? The reason they denied it, the reason the State Police have put in writing for the denial. Well, get a load of this. “Improper and Overbroad” was the main reason. Can you believe that the information is supposedly improper and overbroad? Why would wanting to know a statistical fact such as the number of RBO permits be considered overbroad? And why would it be considered in any way improper? It is strictly information. It is based on a record. It absolutely should be released. Evan Nappen 05:52 How come they are releasing the numbers for civilian carry permits, right? The 92,000. How come that’s not “improper and overbroad”? No, the Attorney General does it. Go ahead. Why? Tell me. Why do you think? Teddy Nappen 06:10 So, going back to because John also, if I recall, broke the story about denials where, what was it? Blacks were five times more likely to be denied to their carry. Evan Nappen 06:22 Yes, institutionalized racism. That exists in New Jersey. Teddy Nappen 06:31 So, add into the fact that you have the, well, here’s the trick. The Left have always been anti-police. That is a fact. They were the ones that wanted to defund the police. They were the ones for that. So, now we have the first factor of showing the absolute racism of the gun laws. But also the fact that they were supporting the only carry which, by the way, how much you want to bet they were all for the RPOs under all the Democrat Governors who allowed those carries to come into play. How much of that look, if it shows that there’s this massive amount of RPOs being issued. And because the Left are Marxists who absolutely hate police and hate law and order, this would make them look like absolute elitists and hypocrites. Evan Nappen 07:19 So, the fear is that, arguably, in the defund the police mentality, that if retired police are being armed, they don’t want any police armed, even if they’re retired, because of the perceived threat that they put out there that law enforcement creates toward minorities. In their view, not in my view. Not in my view. It’s the opposite. I mean, the fact is, they’re out there as protectors, defenders of the good people of our State. Every retired officer is somebody who’s not only armed, but also is experienced in armed defense, having served as a law enforcement officer. They’re a resource. They’re a positive benefit to our society. Yet, they’re probably scared of the politics. I mean, why else? What? There’s nothing about it that makes it “improper”. And it sure isn’t “overbroad”. It would be overbroad, maybe, if you want to know the name and address and Dox every carry RPO that’s out there. That’s not being requested. We just want the damn number. How many RPO carry permits? Teddy Nappen 08:41 Page of 2 8 It honestly reminds me, Dad, of that poster you had hung up. It was the joke where it shows if the Left could rewrite the Second Amendment. And I think, and I remember, you remember that. They crossed out, remember, they crossed out militia. And it says, like, military and police, employed police only. We’re kind of that logic where like, well, they’re not in the service, so why should they be armed? Not because there’s massive doxing websites, and that’s why ICE has to have their mask on for that exact reason. But. Evan Nappen 09:17 Exactly. Well, the fight is still ongoing and the question is raised. Why not just give us the number so we all know? And I would like to see a huge number of RPOs. I hope there’s lots of them out there. The more trained law-abiding folks that have firearms, the safer we are. And retired police are perfect in that regard. That’s exactly what we want to see. So, whatever their basis is, it just creates more of a conspiracy, and it just politicizes it so unnecessarily. It’s ridiculous. Release the number. Let us know. Let’s join in showing how many armed folks are out there. Maybe that’s another reason. They’re afraid that if that number, you know is even more, now, more and more people are carrying and suddenly the BITS argument they love to make right? Blood In The Streets. BITS. There’ll be blood in the streets with civilian carry, you know. No, it didn’t happen. And it’ll be the Wild West. It’s not the Wild West. And look at how many folks have carries when you combine the numbers. Maybe they’re afraid of that political aspect. But, you know, we have a right to know these numbers. It’s not a secret. It’s not improper. It’s not overbroad. Just let us know, and we deal with the facts. Evan Nappen 10:47 I also want to bring a couple very interesting things out that I’ve recently learned about. An important one here is the old “Bang or Bong – You can’t have both”. Well, shortly, at least a greater degree, you may be able to have both because President Trump, through his administration, folks, keep that in mind. Through the Trump administration, they have proposed, through ATF, revision of their regulation concerning the interpretation of what a “user of drugs” as a disqualifier, what it means. You know, for almost 30 years, ATF has said they treat even a single incident, a single past admission of marijuana use, or a failed drug test, or one misdemeanor marijuana conviction as evidence of a person being an unlawful user. They have now put forward an administrative reg that when it becomes finalized, which should be happening within the next few months, it will make it so that those things no longer will be deeming a person “an unlawful user”. And this should be of great help. Evan Nappen 12:25 From an article in AmmoLand, written by Dean Weingarten, which is entitled “ATF Finally Admits: One-time Drug Use Isn’t Grounds to Strip Gun Rights.” (https://www.ammoland.com/2026/01/atf-finally-admitsone-time-drug-use-isnt-grounds-to-strip-gun-rights/) It makes it really interesting here regarding that. In 2025, NICS denied 9,163 firearm transfers under the “unlawful user” category, okay? So, in other words, denials, denials of over 9,000 transfers, more than half of those denials, more than half, were single-incident drug inferences. Well, under this rule, those will no longer be denials. That’s over what? Four thousand people that will not be denied their gun rights, just in that one year, no less. Of people being denied over this nonsense. And furthermore, in this article, ATF admitted that 8,893 cases, it declined to investigate, prosecute, or retrieve firearms because of a single-drug incident. So, they’re denying individuals and not prosecuting. Yet, they’re using it as a base for denial. So, finally, we’re getting a reg of common sense that clears it up. Evan Nappen 14:05 Page of 3 8 And it even, to me, appears to go further. Now this may take a little bit more analysis, but in my reading of the reg, and I’m going to have to see how it pans out, it also talks about those that use drugs that are lawfully prescribed. That becomes an exemption. I’m going to be looking further into whether this reg also directly impacts individuals with a medical marijuana card. Because if it’s prescribed and it’s legal in the state and it’s by a lawful prescription, then maybe that, too, gets covered by this new regulation. It remains to be seen, but it sure seems like it. So, this is good. It progress in the right direction of helping protect our gun rights. And, of course, it’s happening under the Trump administration. It didn’t, this didn’t happen under, you know, the senile sock puppets for years. This is Trump, and yet it’s in the area of marijuana. I mean, oddly, it’s going to essentially remove what got Hunter Biden in trouble, you know. Now, of course, I don’t think he had a single individual use, but still. It’s that disqualifier that’s being addressed by the Trump administration. Evan Nappen 15:40 I also want to point out something that caught my attention, and I think it is just great when something illustrates the absurdity of the gun laws. As you know, we’re fighting over with the big, beautiful lawsuit with NFA over suppressors. Of course, there’s no more $200 tax, which is nice, and they have made it much more efficient online to be able to get federally registered through the National Firearm Act, when acquiring suppressors. And I appreciate the progress, but we all know that there shouldn’t be any NFA at all. It shouldn’t exist. There should be no registration of suppressors or silencers. And it’s so stupid the way silencers are regulated. And I just love this. Apparently, this fellow here, regarding the National Association for Gun Rights, registered a potato as a suppressor. That’s right, a potato. (https:// www.facebook.com/share/v/1Aadb9chUS/) It’s the classic potato silencer that they used to be, mythologically, I guess, accredited to the IRA even. A potato on the end of a gun will act as a suppressor, and to a certain degree, it does. So, he registered a potato, an actual potato, as a suppressor, and then proceeded to utilize it. The only problem with the potato silencer is it’s good for about one shot, and then you end up with a lot of mashed potatoes after you use it. But there you go. They did, in fact, register the potato as a silencer. Teddy Nappen 17:31 There’s a slang term for it, too it’s called a Paddy can. Evan Nappen 17:35 There you go. A Paddy can. Well, he registered a Paddy can. And you know, ATF, also, in the past, registered a shoelace as a machine gun, because you could wrap it around the trigger and the bolt. Then you could do a quasi bump fire deal with it. So, there is a bona fide, if you go on the internet, see a bona fide ATF registered shoelace as a machine gun. We have potatoes as silencers, and I think it illustrates just how stupid the NFA is. Evan Nappen 18:07 Hey, let me tell you about our friends at WeShoot. Evan Nappen 23:59 Your bingo card is Judge Jackson defends Jim Crow racist Black Codes. Teddy Nappen 24:05 Black Code. Specifically Black Codes. Yes, yes. So, this is about the Hawaii challenge. Remember, they’re trying to attack Bruen. And this is our opportunity to really strengthen and end that insanity. Evan Nappen 24:20 Your talking about the Wolford case. Teddy Nappen 24:20 Correct. Evan Nappen 24:22 About sensitive places. Which is very important. That can have great impact on New Jersey, too. Teddy Nappen 24:28 Oh, we’re all very too familiar about the various sensitive places in New Jersey. But this was the part that caught me. During the forum, where the justices are allowed to ask questions and probe the issues of the facts of the case of the law. So, Justice Jackson then turned and decided to go on and say. I just laugh every time I read it. So, I guess I really don’t understand your response to Justice Gorsuch on the Black Codes. I mean, I thought the Black Code, this is Jackson, were being offered under the Bruen test to determine the Constitutionality of this regulation, and that, because we have a test, and that asks us to look at the history and tradition, the fact that the Black Codes were at some point determined themselves unconstitutional, it doesn’t seem to me to be relevant to the assessment that Bruen is asking us for anyway. So, can you say more about that? So to. Evan Nappen 25:35 Do you believe this person is a justice? Teddy Nappen 25:40 Well, I can, I can believe it, because Biden said it himself. He was going to appoint a black woman and regardless of that. So, just take a step back though. Let’s unpack that line right there. It’s not relevant to the fact the laws were found unconstitutional, not relevant to the fact of the constitutionality of the Second Amendment and the and the fact that you are citing, and this is the war on Bruen they are Page of 6 8 making, where they try to say history, text and tradition. Where does history begin? Well, to the Left, apparently, the history begins in the 1860s where you have the various Black Codes and racist gun laws, but you know, to us with the, you know, traditionalists and go and have a little bit further knowledge of history, go back to the very foundation of our country and when the Second Amendment was born. And not only that, this shows you the degree that they hate us and hate guns and are willing to pursue a second amendment oppression agenda, even to the degree that they will utilize unconstitutional purely racist laws of the past to justify prohibitions now that are themselves we can show utilizing institutionalized racism in their enforcement, no less. I mean, they don’t care, as long as they can get the guns and take away the rights. So what if they have to be on the side of racism? That’s fine with them there. Teddy Nappen 27:28 Well, and here’s the reason why I pulled from The Trace where, you know, they absolutely loathe Bruen. This is why they hate it, and this is why they don’t care where length they have to go they cite in. This is from The Trace. (https://www.thetrace.org/projects/bruen-tracker-supreme-court-gun-laws/) 1100 plus. The number of people with felony convictions have used Bruen to challenge the ban on the possession of guns. So, in other words, people that were lawful possession and have unconstitutional laws currently putting them in jail? Oh, now there’s a hammer that is Bruen that can actually help them defend themselves and not be prosecuted. Amazing. Well. And it goes back to race, because blacks are six to one felons to whites, and what is the left pushing? Oh, the disqualifier of a felon, you are sure, because it gets a racial discrimination. It’s six to one again, always pushing the one side of their mouth, claiming to fight for civil rights. Teddy Nappen 28:37 And yet, when it really comes down to the truest of civil rights, they immediately sell it out to pursue a second amendment oppression agenda, yeah, and also the fact they highlight, they highlight this rate of 48% of Republican appointed judges have struck down various gun laws under Bruen, as opposed to the 13 Democrat appointees. So there is political bias for that, you where they’re actually applying the law versus them ignoring the Constitution. He said, we’re going to pack the court. We’re going to make a gonna make Puerto Rico a state like everything they can to maintain power. I pulled the line right here from buyers, which all of them agree with buyers on this. They refuse, when considering the SEC refuse to consider government interests and just and the challenge to gun regulations regarding the compelling interest to be, in our view, when the court interprets the Second Amendment, it is constitutionally proper and in often necessary. Necessary to consider the serious danger and consequences of gun violence that lead states to regulate when you when they consider gun laws, they have to factor in the gun violence. I get cases all the time where people end up with their property seized and their house gets searched. Now you may say, well, no one has searched my house. Yeah, except it’s so easy in New Jersey to have that happen. All it takes is just some allegation by any party. You don’t even get a chance to say anything till afterwards. After they do the search that red flags you, or puts an unjustified restraining order on you, or just your house has a fire, and the firemen come in there. We’ve seen this happen so many times, so many ways, and something gets discovered that you didn’t even remember that you had. If you had old magazines that held over 10 rounds, in other words, you could even if you complied with Florio way back in the day and made sure your mags only held 15. If you have firearm that became non-compliant under New Jersey law and didn’t realize it, there’s just a multitude of things that New Jersey can screw you over with. An old bump stock or an old large capacity magazine or a trigger crank, or any of the things that were legal, but then New Jersey unilaterally decided it is intrinsically evil and must be turned into felonies for possession. World Ballet Day on Wednesday 12 November 2025 is the global celebration of dance where artists and audiences are invited to experience ballet in new transformative ways as access becomes art. The Royal Ballet and Opera House in London continue their programme of access to their productions for blind and partially sighted people with both live and recorded audio described performances, along with accompanying introductory notes and touch tours. If you have ever wondered what goes in to audio describing ballet and dance then do join RNIB Connect Radio's Toby Davey for an insight into how the Royal Ballet's current production of Cinderella is brought to life for blind and partially sighted people through pre show introductory notes, touch tours and audio described performances. Prior to the general rehearsal of Cinderella On Monday 2 December 2024 Toby caught up with Professional Audio Describers Julia Grundy and Jane Brambley to find out what goes in to the process of describing a ballet production like Cinderella, how they both work on their description scripts, thinking about what props and costumes to include on a touch tour and whether they adapt their live description script at all for the recorded description which is now available at every performance of Cinderella.  After chatting with Julia and Jane Toby also caught up with Ania Kapazat, one of the Administrative Producers at the Royal Ballet, to find out more about how she has helped Julia and Jane with their description as well as listening in to the dry run of their audio description at the general rehearsal of Cinderella. During the first interval of the general rehearsal of Cinderella Toby managed to catch up with Kevin O'Hare, Director of The Royal Ballet, to firstly chat about how things have gone in getting this production of Cinderella to the general rehearsal, how embedded access and audio description is within the company and a snap shot stand out moment from Cinderella that really shows how everything comes together to bring the story of Cinderella to life on stage with audio description too. About Cinderella The Royal Ballet's current production of Cinderella continues on the main stage of the Royal Opera House until 16 January 2025 with recorded audio description now available at every performance.  This enchanting ballet by The Royal Ballet's Founder Choreographer Frederick Ashton is a theatrical experience for all the family over the festive holiday. A co-production between the Royal Ballet and the national Ballet of Canada. In 1939, Frederick Ashton first began to consider creating a full-length work, the Company's first three-act ballet. At the time it seemed like the obvious next step for British ballet. The idea was shelved during the war but in 1946 Ashton returned urgently to it. Inspired by other balletic adaptations of Cinderella coming out of Russia, Ashton chose to create his own version of Charles Perrault's famous rags-to-riches story. Set to Prokofiev's exquisite score the ballet received its premiere in 1948 featuring Moira Shearer and Michael Some's in the lead roles.  A World Where Dreams Blossom  The designs of this production of Cinderella are heavily influenced by nature and flowers. As the Fairy Godmother and the Seasons' fairies come into Cinderella's world, the muted tones of the family living room are taken over by a burst of colour. But the final hunt of the year 'took the cake' as Jason was able to go on a special hunt through the foundation that he and his wife set up 10 years ago after the passing of their daughter at age 15. Buzz Lechowski, episode 94, began his fire service journey near his childhood home in Chicago and the northwest suburbs in 1994, becoming an EMT and starting on his fire science degree. Having split time in Arizona during his teens, it didn't take long for him to gravitate back west to Sedona. Attending Yavapai College, he started volunteering with the Sedona Fire District and became a career Firefighter/EMT in 1999. Continuing his education, he became a Paramedic in 2000, completed his bachelor's degree in organizational leadership, and a Master's degree in Communication from Arizona State University. While with Sedona Fire, Buzz has progressed through each rank from Firefighter, to Engineer, Captain, Battalion Chief, and for nearly four years was the Division Chief of Operations. He is currently the Division Chief of EMS. He has served on the Honor Guard, pipe band, peer-support team, charity board, L3690 E-Board, and dozens of RBO committees while with SFD. He has a love for education and teaching, devotes time to several non-profit organizations including the Arizona Burn Foundation, and is passionate about mental health and wellness for himself, his fellow fire service members, and community.
