In this episode of No More Reasonable Doubt, we learn about Assistant Basketball Coach Geoff Arnold and the powerful community he has built for basketball coaching during COVID. He has everybody from high school to professional coaches joining this private community. You are going to love the organic nature of how this project was born and how Geoff leveraged the relationships he has built over years to pull together the kind of community that would have a coach call into their weekly meeting 15 minutes before their game and has coaches calling in to thank them for the professional development and community that helped them to get their next job. You'll also hear the evolution of this project/community based on the conversations they began having. With the social/racial awakening that has taken place in the U.S. many people of color (I'm imagining mostly Black folks) are being asked to step into the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) space; that is definitely the cases for some of the Basketball coaches that are part of 12 inches over. Curious about what the name "12 inches over" means? You'll have to listen to the show to find out. Enjoy this dope conversation and envision how it can help to fuel and inspire your own passion / purpose project. Below is the transcript of this solo episode Welcome to No More Reasonable Doubt, the show focused on helping young professionals of color have more impact at work and helping companies retain and develop their diverse employees. This is a special message to young professionals of color. You don't need another speech, you need support. You need a long term investment in you and your future. You don't get that from a speech or a one-time program. How do I know? I've been a professional speaker for nearly a decade. Most of that time spent speaking in front of college students and young professionals. Some of color but not always. My speaking evolved over time. I went from, "This is the speech I have for you," to "I'd like to survey the crowd before I speak," to now, "How can I help them build a community of support?" After every speech especially if it was in front of people who look like me I would extend the invitation to stay connected. My email was on the screen, but out of all the talks I've given only ONE person (Lavar Thomas) really stayed in touch and took me up on the offer to be of service, to serve as a sounding board for him, to help him move his mission forward. You want to know where he is at the time of this recording? He is spending two years in the Peace Corps; something you don't see many Black males doing. Nope, I can't take credit for his hunger, all I can do is provide a spotlight, a platform to say way to go Lavar.
This is our first episode and an introduction to the work we are doing for young professionals of color. We'll interview professionals of color on our show and have monologue episodes as well. All in the name of empowerment for the young professional of color. Thanks for listening. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/no-more-reasonable-doubt-podcast/message
Mike Ambassador Bruny’s mission is to help individuals discover their greatness and live it out. His latest project, Brand Inside a Brand, focuses on personal branding for the working professional. He is the author of Move the Crowd: 30 Days of Hip-Hop Affirmations to Change Your Life, as well as a speaker, certified life coach, an alum of the Boston based Leaders of Color Development Program, The Partnership, Inc., and a stay-at-home dad to his 10-month-old son. He talks to Charlie about how he got to where he is today, lessons he’s learned along the way, and how to take action on something you’re passionate about and make it happen. Key Takeaways: 2:08– Working at Intel is where Mike learned to become a professional speaker and where the idea of Brand Inside a Brand was started. 3:28 – Mike created his own curriculum helping people create a brand inside a brand while at Intel. 5:43 – One challenge you can run into is that companies don’t want you to be your own brand. 7:03 – People who have a good, strong brand of their own are people who you wouldn’t even realize work for a company because they’re so independent. 8:29 – Part of your brand and what Mike teaches is to learn how to be more entrepreneurial, not become an entrepreneur. 11:09 – The idea of working for an employer for the intended length of your working career is obsolete. Most people move on from project to project. 15:21 – It’s about finding a job where you can show up and be the best of yourself, doing the things that you’re interested in, and the things that you’re interested in generating value. 21:35 – Mike sees hip-hop as a language of people. 24:05 – Mike has a vision of getting Seth Godin and Jay-Z on a stage together. 26:00 – Mike’s next project in the works is a community called “No More Reasonable Doubt,” a space where students of color can go to get his work and seek help. 29:27 – Mike organized an event for Charity: Water and helped raise $10,000 for them.
