NFL Official Sarah Thomas, who worked Super Bowl LV and has been in the league for a decade, visits with Says Who Sports to share her thoughts on a variety of topics, including the Philadelphia Eagles blowout of the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl. Thomas says that, aside from Super Bowl-specific preparation, NFL game officials prepare for battle year-round, including multiple offseason clinics and constant rules/situational testing by the league. Thomas details the hectic atmosphere of her Down Judge positioning along the line of scrimmage during a game, including the requisite ability for unwavering focus and execution on every play. Thomas, a former college athlete, recalls her disdain for game officials as a player, and discusses the newfound understanding and respect she gained for the job after attending her first-ever officials meeting at the local amateur sports level in her native Pascagoula, Mississippi. The meeting fueled her interest in officiating and launched a career that has now spanned three decades, including many years as an official in D1 college football in Conference USA and being selected to work multiple bowl games and Senior Bowls. She has worked numerous high-profile NFL contests including Monday Night Football, multiple playoff games and Super Bowl LV between the Chiefs and Buccaneers. Thomas talks about the excitement of receiving word from legendary NFL official Wayne Mackie that she'd earned the honor of officiating in Super Bowl LV, and the emotion of sharing the news with her parents.Thomas also discusses the inspirational impact made on her by Jill Upton, her aunt and the coach of the U.S. Women's Basketball team at the World University Games in Moscow in 1973 (the team included a young player named Pat Summitt). Upton encouraged Thomas, who loved playing basketball, to try out for the fifth-grade boys basketball team because there was no girls' team at the time. Thomas made the squad. She went on to play college basketball at the University of Mobile.Thomas has blazed an inspirational trail en route to becoming an official at the highest level of professional sports, and discusses the strong foundation of faith, work ethic and accountability (no excuses) instilled in her and her siblings by her parents. Plus, much more!

Erik's goal with these interviews is to shine light into that obscure terrain between the struggle and the success. It's dark there with plenty of barriers; metaphorically speaking certainly, but also many times literally…. as is the case with Sarah; she stared into the darkness of English Channel waters crossing it back and forth twice. Oh yeah, she was swimming. And she was battling breast cancer too.Sarah's journey is both surreal and inspiring. Her feats of sheer endurance go beyond the English Channel, across the world. 104 miles across on Lake Champlain, 80 miles across Lake Powell.. a short 22 miles across the Loch Ness (no monster sightings) and many, many more. She's on a mission to complete the Ocean's Seven marathon swims.Erik digs into it all, from her motivations, breathtaking encounters with marine life and how she's thriving post-breast cancer.Sarah's website: https://sarahthomasswims.com/Sarah on Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/sarahswims04

Hannah Aylward), Nutrition Nugget: Enough (aired 5/31/24), Nutrition Nugget: Your Acceptance Speech (aired 2/9/24)KEY TAKEAWAYS: The Top Three Reasons and Remedies for Weight Loss Resistance focused on the fact that stress plays a major, often overlooked role in weight loss resistance, alongside inflammation and insulin resistance. Addressing stress management, sleep quality, and resilience can sometimes be more effective than focusing solely on diet or exercise.Fitness Fact or Fiction offered an antidote to fitness advice that can feel overwhelming and contradictory. This episode makes it approachable by focusing on actionable steps for long-term wellness. It emphasizes the importance of balance, debunks common myths, and discusses the critical role of muscle mass in metabolism as we age. A standout quote, "You can't outrun your fork," reminds listeners that fitness and nutrition must work together, and no amount of exercise can replace proper eating habits. The focus of The Ultimate Biohack was that sleep is the cornerstone of health and wellness; none of the trendy "biohacks" can compare to its impact. Jenn debunks the glamorization of sacrificing sleep for productivity, highlighting its role in cognitive function, recovery, and brain detoxification through the glymphatic system. Without consistent, quality sleep (7-8+ hours), fitness, nutrition, and supplementation efforts are significantly undermined. The focus of Live from New York…It's Salad with a Side of Fries, 5th Anniversary of the show, was a live recorded Q&A episode that captured the essence of the podcast's mission and philosophy, showcasing the vibrant community around it. The dynamic energy of the event highlighted the importance of fostering real connections while experimenting with unique formats, such as live shows, to engage listeners freshly and authentically.QUOTES: [14:47] “I think this story is all too common, where doctors want to tell us just from looking at us what's happening, or they make judgments based on our weight, and as we say over and over, health is not a size, weight does not determine health in any capacity.” Jenn Trepeck[21:04] “We expect so much of ourselves. I think another piece is the role of consistency and balance. Frankly, if we could live 100 percent of the time in consistency and balance, we'd see the “results” that everybody's looking for.” Jenn Trepeck [29:20] “We're deteriorating our health more by not sleeping than we could get from any biohack.” Jenn Trepeck [31:02] “One of my biggest pet peeves with the personal development gurus is that they're all saying, sleep when you die, find more time in the day, wake up two hours earlier….” Jenn Trepeck[38:06] “We are eating food that is devoid of nutrition. We're eating food-like substances that give our bodies more chemicals or “modified foods.” We're eating these things, and they taste good, they seem like food, but they're not providing the body with the nutrients it seeks and that it needs to do all its functions.” Jenn Trepeck[44:39] “Alzheimer's is referred to as diabetes type three. So, we see this connection between our metabolic health and brain health, how our brains function. The good news is that we have a lot of control. We're not doomed to an aging memory.” Jenn Trepeck[46:02] “I no longer use a to-do list. Everything ends up on the calendar at a time slot with an allocated time to do the thing. For what it's worth, that has been life-changing.” Jenn TrepeckRESOURCES:Learn more about Healthy Vibe Tribe on Jan 6 at 8pm ETReady to jump into the Healthy Vibe Tribe? Let's dive into wellness and weight loss for real life, including drinking, eating out, and skipping the grocery store. IN THIS EPISODE: [3:45] Jenn shares what members are getting this week[5:32] Sarah shares her story of being an overweight child to an anorexic teen to being a healthy and happy adult[9:36] Cardio is for heart health[14:06] The importance of strength and resistance training[17:08] Why we should prioritize lifting heavier weights and repeating the same exercises[19:27] What progressive overload is, what it isn't and all about super setting[26:04] Why you can spot train muscle, but can't spot reduce fat[28:34] Sarah discusses menopause and belly fat [30:38] Balancing holiday eating with your wellness goals and how fitness “fits”[34:07] How do you stay fit during a time crunch?KEY TAKEAWAYS: Walking is amazing for cardiovascular health. It is great for our heart health. We need it. That doesn't mean all of our workouts need to be straight cardio. You can have your heart rate elevated by weightlifting, which all women should be doing. Starting in your late twenties, you lose muscle mass at 1-2% per year, leading to a loss of 15-20% by your forties if you don't engage in regular strength training. This condition, known as sarcopenia, accelerates the aging process. Prioritizing building muscle helps maintain strength and mobility and supports healthier aging overall. For effective strength training, prioritize lifting weights that feel challenging by the last few reps or seconds of an exercise. Avoid sticking with outdated weight limits; choose weights that push your muscles to grow and stay strong over time. You can strengthen muscles through exercises like sit-ups, but you cannot spot reduce fat in specific areas like the belly. Fat loss happens throughout the body and is influenced by your overall metabolism and hormonal changes. To manage body composition effectively, focus on consistent movement, balanced nutrition, and prioritize stress management and sleep, particularly during perimenopause.QUOTES: [6:17] “I won't say that I did everything right from there. I turned to over-exercising for many, many years. I would probably say over a decade of over-exercising after that. So, I've done everything wrong before doing anything right. Along the way, I wanted to know more about our bodies, what makes us work specifically as women, and how our bodies function.” - Sarah Thomas[9:36] “Cardio, in general, is great for our heart health. So we have, for some reason, turned cardio into ‘this is what's going to change your body.' It was never researched or meant to change our body composition. We have somehow morphed it into something it wasn't created to do.” - Sarah Thomas“As we age, that intense cardio is registering to the body as a stressor, on top of all the stress we already have.” - Jenn Trepeck[15:00] “I always say weightlifting is queen at this stage of your life. I mean, really! You know, I always say, we talk to perimenopausal women, but if you're in your twenties and your early thirties, pay attention, start doing it now. It is the best approach. I wish I had someone to tell me this in my late twenties and early thirties. So even if you're not here yet and you're listening. Do this now, do this now, because having muscle mass is what we need as we get older.” - Sarah Thomas[34:56] “I would challenge you by saying, I bet you have five minutes after lunch to do something. I bet you could get up from your desk for five or 10 minutes and do something versus scrolling. Maybe you could still scroll social media and move your body. Maybe you can just get on the treadmill and keep doing that. But I would challenge you to say, if you have five minutes, if you have 10 minutes, you can still get up and move your body.” - Sarah Thomas[35:19] “There are a lot of magical things that can happen when you get up and move after you eat. So, 30 minutes to an hour after you eat, it gives that glucose spike when you eat something, somewhere to go. And so it will decrease that insulin response, which will level out, so I'm getting kind of sciencey, but it will level out the glucose response, which we don't want the big spikes.” - Sarah Thomas[37:41] “If you're like, I just don't have time, start there. Just get up two or three times throughout your day. Walk around, manage your stress and sleep well.” Sarah ThomasRESOURCES:Become A Member of Salad with a Side of FriesJenn's Free Menu PlanA Salad With a Side of FriesA Salad With A Side Of Fries MerchA Salad With a Side of Fries InstagramGUEST RESOURCES:Burn Fat and Feast - WebsiteBurn Fat and Feast - InstagramBurn Fat and Feast - FacebookBurn Fat and Feast - TikTokSarah Thomas - PinterestSarah Thomas - LinkedInBurn Fat and Feast Podcast feat. There are nearly 70,000 children in the UK who are in foster care. Foster carers main concern has to be the children they look after, including many who have experienced neglect and trauma. But they are self-employed, so there are also financial considerations, from allowances and fees, to tax returns and receipts. In this programme we'll hear from charities, foster carers and care leavers. We'll also discuss new analysis from the Fostering Network, which found foster carers face a post code lottery when it comes to fees they're paid. Foster carers are given an allowance to pay for clothes and food - but they're also usually paid extra on top to recognise their time and skills. Those fees aren't fixed though, and local authorities can each individually decide how much to award.Using freedom of information requests the charity found 60% of local authorities across the UK are paying foster carers the equivalent of less than £5 an hour based on a 40 hour week. Local Authorities are given funding from central government and the devolved nations – the told us they are reviewing support for foster carers. Felicity Hannah, is joined by Sarah Thomas, Chief Executive of The Fostering Network and Brenda Farrell, Head of Fostering at Barnardo's.Presenter: Felicity Hannah Producer: Sarah Rogers Editor: Jess Quayle(This episode was first broadcast at 3pm on Weds 18th Sept 2024).

Bonus Episode! Sarah Thomas came to Sea Lanes in July 2024 for an interview in front of a live audience, hosted by me. It was such an honour to be able to speak to her face to face and hear first-hand her story and her recent epic swim around Maui... Apologies for the sound during the interview, I think you'll forgive me as it's a really great chat. I had the microphone placed next to a speaker and it's ever so slightly distorted. Happy Swimming and enjoy!

Sarah Thomas and Greg Carbone discuss job-seeking strategies for nurses with Theresa Mazzaro, the manager of recruitment at Fairfax Radiology Centers. Theresa, a registered nurse with 32 years of experience and a background in the Air National Guard, shares insights on navigating the job market, emphasizing the importance of standing out in a competitive field through effective resume writing that aligns with applicant tracking systems (ATS). She notes her unique perspective as a nurse recruiter, mentioning her involvement with the National Association of Health Care Recruiters and the trend of nurses transitioning into recruitment roles, aiming to provide valuable tips for experienced nurses and new graduates seeking career advancement. Cover letters are optional for nurses seeking employment, but an objective statement and attention to detail are crucial. Hospitals struggle to find qualified applicants, making experienced nurses with good references highly hirable. Online resources and templates can assist those who haven't updated their resumes in years. Preparing for behavioral-based interview questions by recalling specific past experiences is recommended, along with honesty about not having interviewed recently and coming prepared with written answers. Professional advice includes readiness for behavioral questions using the STAR method, asking relevant questions to recruiters and hiring managers, and ensuring a good fit during the interview process. Asking pertinent questions during nursing job interviews, such as staffing ratios and team culture, is crucial to avoid problematic environments. Professionalism in appearance, including appropriate attire for interviews, is emphasized, along with adhering to infection control policies regarding tattoos, piercings, and scents. Job interview etiquette in healthcare settings involves maintaining professionalism, making personal connections, and following up professionally. Proper etiquette during virtual interviews, such as choosing suitable backgrounds and dressing professionally, is essential, as well as being mindful of privacy and distractions. We hope you enjoy the advice Theresa shares, comment on the episode if it helps you land your next role!

Sarah Thomas, aged 41, is an ultra-marathon swimmer who achieved the current world record for the longest continuous swim in current-neutral conditions, performed without assistance or a wetsuit. This record-breaking feat spanned 104.6 miles over the course of 67 hours and took place in Lake Champlain, USA, in August 2017. Shortly after this remarkable swim, Sarah faced an aggressive form of breast cancer diagnosis at the young age of 35. During her cancer treatment, which included chemotherapy, surgery, and radiation therapy, Sarah remained unwavering in her pursuit of an extraordinary swim that many considered impossible. One year post-cancer treatment, Sarah made history by becoming the first person to complete a four-way crossing of the English Channel, accomplishing this incredible feat in a remarkable 54 hours and 10 minutes. More recently, Sarah achieved another groundbreaking milestone, becoming the first individual in history to conquer a two-way crossing of the North Channel, enduring 21 hours and 46 minutes in frigid waters inhabited by enormous jellyfish. *** The Tough Girl Podcast is being sponsored throughout January by ZOLEO. #ChallengeWithZOLEO ZOLEO connects with your phone to provide seamless global messaging that follows you in and out of mobile network coverage — plus added safety features you can count on worldwide including industry-leading SOS alerting features. 24/7 monitoring and 24/7 access to non-emergency medical advice, check-in and weather forecasts. Subscribe, rate, review, & share! --- CCP Blog - Episode 15 Orpiment Grids for Ghosts, Purging and Purification Sometimes letting go, or releasing, or a gentle release just isn't enough. Sometimes we need to purge, have a big exodus of energy, leave our body, space, spirit, or even our child and the things we want to protect. This episode is all about that – burning away intense energies with arsenic trisulfide orpiment. Welcome back to the Crystal Clarity Podcast. I'm Sarah Thomas, a healer and acupuncturist with 20 years of experience in crystal and stone healing. In my healing work, I focus on spiritual origins of disease, delving deep into holistic Chinese medicine. We explore past lives, karmas, ancestry, and soul-level language, addressing everything about a person's life. As healers, we become doctors, therapists, and priests, embracing everything within the scope of true holistic healing. We stand toe to toe with people's demons, facing the deepest threads and bringing about quantum-level changes in their lives. Image of Orpiment Today, I want to talk about an incredibly potent soul-level stone – Orpiment. It's perfect for purging intense energies, ghosts, and dense blocks. When the words "releasing" or "letting go" fall short, Orpiment steps in to create a major movement and release. I've witnessed powerful transformations with Orpiment, especially in cases of haunting energies or traumatic losses. It goes beyond just talking about it; it requires a deep purification. Orpiment becomes a crucial ally for those who engage in intense healing work, standing in the fire with individuals, wrestling their demons. It's an important stone for healers who go deep into people's struggles, providing courage, love, and alchemical change. Orpiment can be placed in spaces or yards to clear dense or stagnant energy. You can create a grid using quartz crystals to capture Orpiment's vibration and distribute it around the room. This stone has a strong resonance in the back right corner of spaces and the center, aligning with its fire and earth elements. For a more personal approach, use Orpiment in heart-guided frequency layouts. Place the stone or its captured essence with quartz crystals on a picture of yourself to facilitate a profound release. This method can be applied to specific chakras or areas where you feel the need for purification. Orpiment has a softness and a monoclinic crystal structure, making it accessible and practical. Its literal and straightforward nature makes it a powerful tool for major actions like purging. Be cautious, as it's a toxic stone – never ingest it directly or make an elixir. Use indirect methods to capture its essence. In conclusion, Orpiment is an alchemical powerhouse, burning away intense energies and providing a potent tool for purification. Approach it with respect and care, allowing its transformative qualities to bring about deep shifts in your energetic landscape. Thank you for joining me on this Crystal Clarity Podcast episode. I'm Sarah Thomas, reminding you that sometimes, a purge with Orpiment is exactly what you need. See you in the next episode.

We're joined by long-time stone medicine alchemist and healer, Sarah Thomas. Together we delve into the ancestral healing power of stones and crystals and how they can help us on the journey to the fulfillment of destiny.“Crystals are like the bones of the earth. And if you follow their resonance, that is really deep medicine. So we use this for really deep things, really chronic things, things that have been going on for a long time, hidden things, really getting at the roots of disease and spiritual origins of disease.” — Sarah ThomasSarah, whose secret name is Star Wolf, is a healer, acupuncturist and educator who is immersed in the clinical and academic experience of ancient stone medicine and future crystal technologies.
