Seperti apa potret realita kehidupan para dosen ASN Kemendiktisaintek? Apa saja dampak yang muncul jika tukin tak kunjung cair? Apakah problem kesejahteraan hanya dialami dosen ASN? - Today marks the birth anniversary of Zaynab bint ‘Ali wa Fatimah (a), known as the Lady of Courage. - Islam emerged in a society where Arabs saw female children as a disgrace, often hiding or rejecting their daughters, as described in Qur'an 16:58-59. - Allah granted Prophet Muhammad children, but his sons didn't survive; this highlighted that his lineage would continue through his daughter, Fatimah, despite ridicule from the Arabs. - In the modern era, when Muslim men mistreat women, Islam is often blamed, while misbehavior in other faiths is not attributed to their religions. - The twisting of Islamic teachings and the Qur'an can be replicated in other religions too, such as in certain Biblical teachings, like in Ecclesiasticus, which refers to the birth of a daughter as a “loss.” - Imam aṣ-Ṣādiq (a) emphasized daughters as good deeds and sons as blessings, showing the value Islam places on daughters. - The Prophet's treatment of his daughter, Fatimah, was revolutionary, referring to her as “the mother of her father.” - Zaynab, daughter of ‘Ali and Fatimah, was named for her father's pride in her, with both daughters named Zaynab, “al-kubra” and “aṣ-ṣughra.” - The blame on faith for followers' actions is seen in other contexts too, such as the U.S. elections where societal and gender biases are highlighted, yet rarely attributed to religion. - Some verses in Christian scriptures reflect restrictive views on women, which appear in social patterns, as in the presidential runs of Hillary Clinton and Kamala Harris. - In contrast, Zaynab's role in Islam was one of high esteem, trusted with significant matters by her family, reflecting the honor Islam grants to strong women in its legacy.Donate towards our programs today: https://jaffari.org/donate/ Friday Juma Khutba November 8th, 2024 Jaffari Community Centre (JCC Live)

"Everybody needs good neighbours" noted the theme tune of a popular 1980's Australian soap opera, and indeed, the majority of us do go on to have those good neighbours, that do become good friends - again, as the theme tune of the soap claimed. But not always. For one family living in Nottingham back in November 2022, there was to be nothing of the sort next door, except a nightmare - and a killer. The episode contains details and descriptions of crimes and events, involving children, that some listeners may find disturbing and or distressing, so discretion is advised whilst listening. Fatimah Gilliam is an author, lawyer, sought-after speaker, consultant, and founder of The Azara Group, a consulting firm that provides diversity and inclusion, leadership development, negotiation, and strategy consulting services to Fortune 500 corporations, senior executives leading billion-dollar businesses, and industry thought leaders. Her groundbreaking book, Race Rules: What Your Black Friend Won't Tell You, is a practical manual of the unwritten rules that can help readers navigate today's racially polarized world. In short, it's a ‘how-to' manual for white people to be less racially offensive; enabling them to develop stronger and more respectful cross-racial friendships and professional relationships with people of color. Today, Fatimah joins us as “white America's Black friend” to tell us what others won't say to our faces nor share about perspectives of color on white behaviors, choices, and interactions. She shares deep, transformative insights from her book, which seeks to open the door to perspectives of color so white people can learn, make better choices, take different actions, and evolve with a diversifying society in the 21st century. This conversation is an excellent source of well-informed and hard-hitting advice for those looking to move beyond performative allyship and live their non-racist values, rather than just talk about them. As we discuss, this is ideal for anyone who wants to bring the unconscious forward to consciousness, so they can take new actions every day that will directly and powerfully address and combat racism both in our own lives and behaviors, and in the world we live in. Mary-Ann was shopping with her toddler daughter, also named Mary-Ann, at a Dollar Tree in New Jersey and it was busy. As they were checking out, little Mary-Ann started a meltdown and Fatimah, the cashier…understood the assignment! She asked if the little girl could help her scan the items, and that was the magic trick! So Fatimah the cashier held little Mary-Ann as she scanned the items and had a ball! It was captured on video.
Are all White people racist against Blacks? What about Blacks? Are they generally racist against Whites? How do we overcome racism in America? Those questions and more are covered in this episode of the Lean to the Left podcast with author, attorney Fatimah Gilliam and Justice Counts podcast co-host Mark M. Bello. After all, we're living in a time when a former president refuses to acknowledge his re-election defeat, falsely claiming that thousands of votes were cast illegally. Many states – mostly led by Republicans – are making it harder for people of color to vote on the assumption that they would vote in favor of the Democrats. Even the courts are getting in on the act. Fatimah Gilliam is an author, lawyer, consultant, public speaker, and entrepreneur whose career combines expertise in the law, diversity, human capital, leadership, stakeholder engagement and negotiations. She holds a law degree from Columbia Law School, a master's in public policy from Harvard University's John F. I understand it might be headed to the Supreme Court. What's it all about? Should our listeners be concerned? What's the make-up of the 8th Circuit panel? In Missouri, it must lean Republican, right? Why do Democrats seem to be for more freedom and access to voting, while Republicans want to restrict access? Are these efforts racist? Are we talking about blatant bigotry here?In general, we have a voting rights act, right? Why isn't it enough to protect us?You speak about what you call “Jim Crow 2.0.” You say that the strategy will strip freedoms and suppress votes of people of color and younger, urban, elderly, and disabled Americans. What's the strategy and what can people do about it?In the materials you provided us, you mention Supreme Court cases of Shelby County v. Holder (2013) and Brnovich v. Democratic National Committee (2021). What do these holdings say and how did they skirt around the voting rights act?Do we need a new voting rights act? Will that ever happen if we continue to have divided government? There is a big election coming in 2024. Because of the Dobbs decision, abortion will be on the ballot. People will want to vote. It may be the most important election of our lifetime. Talk to us about the law of voting. Do you consider voting a right or a privilege? If it's a right, what can people do to assure that they can vote in upcoming elections?Even if state and local governments put barriers in front of lower and middle-income voters, what can they do to assure that they can vote in 2024? Where do they go to find out what they must do to qualify for a voter registration card?Talk to us about “Race Rules: What Your Black Friend Won't Tell You.” Does the book answer some of the questions we've been asking today? Is it a blueprint for citizen's who want to assure that they have the right to vote in 2024?You say that the book provides rare access to what many Black people won't say to White people, what Black people secretly think and feel about White people's behaviors and choices. What do Black folks say and feel about White folk's behaviors and choices? You also argue that self-education without behavioral change is half stepping? What behavioral change is needed and what does appropriate self-education look like? Are White people generally racist against Blacks? If so, why? What about Black people? My friends Margaret Olsen Hemming and Rev. Dr. Fatimah Salleh (who was on Episode 710) join us to talk about their latest (and final) volume of “The Book of Mormon for the Least of These, Volume 3: Helaman-Moroni.” Margaret and Fatimah share some of the behind-the-scenes story of working together to write these books, their personal journeys with the Book of Mormon, and what they hope to accomplish with their books. Their work helps us read the book from a social justice perspective that speaks to issues of racism, sexism, immigrations, refugees, and socioeconomic inequality—and then consider what we can do in our circle of influence to be better disciples of Christ. I was so moved listening to these inspiring scholars, authors, theologians, and disciples. I will be using their books as I study the Book of Mormon in 2024 and look for things I need to change in my world view to better love, see, and support those walking a harder road. Thank you, Margaret and Fatimah, for your wonderful work. Honored to have you on the podcast! My friend Rev. Dr. Fatimah Salleh (PhD in Mass Communication, Master's degree in Public Communication, Master of Divinity from Duke, Married Mother of Three, LDS Author, Grew Up LDS/RM) joins us to share insights about the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Fatimah (co-author of “The Book of Mormon for the Least of These” a three-volume series; and her new book “Love Memory: A Memoir & A Practice” edited by Marci McPhee) talks about her own story growing up to in a multi-ethnic/culture/religious family and her personal journey in the LDS Church and her “soft separation from the Church” leading to her current role as a Baptist Pastor. Fatimah, who is respectful of the Church, talks about God's love for all God's children, seeing a social justice charge in our scriptures, and the need to bring those on the margins into full inclusion. Fatimah gives advice for younger people including “being the greatest explorer of your life” and how she, as a clergy member, has a responsibility to learn, grow, apologize, and “do no harm.” On a personal note, Dr Salleh gave a sermon (see show notes) in 2015 called “Theology From the Margins” that gave me the theological perspective and doctrinal foundation to become an ally for LGBTQ Latter-day Saints. It was transforming for me as she spoke about the Canaanite woman, not reading the scriptures with the lens of “who is in and who is out”, seeing and using privilege, and being an ally. Thank you, Rev. Dr. Fatimah Salleh, for being on the podcast and your life work to help people find the love of God, bring the human family together, heal each other, and find Jesus. You are a great human doing much good in our world. Fatimah Asghar shows us the many faces of sisterhood when tested by the constant waves of grief and neglect in their debut novel When We Were Sisters. Kausar, Alisha, and Noreen are suddenly orphans after the murder of their father and the death of their mother years prior. Their uncle takes the girls away from the only home they've ever known and forces them to grow up in a run-down apartment abandoned for weeks and sometimes without food and adult supervision. We mark the end of our second literary year with our interview with Fatimah as they speak about the creative format of centering this story around the girls, while leaving the adults nameless and, at times, redacted. They also share what it was like to approach this story of grief during the early years of lockdowns and what it means to give one's self the permission to create beyond the limitations of others.
In this episode, Fatimah chats with her friend Ernest Patti, aka @hotdogcartt on TikTok, about his experience as a disabled social media content creator.
