We are the temple of the living God. As God has said: “I will live with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be my people.” — 2 Corinthians 6:16 Ms. Betty, 86, shuffles with her walker to the front of the sanctuary. She drops to her knees while singing the words of a spiritual: “Walk with me, Lord! Walk with me. While I'm on this tedious journey, I want Jesus to walk with me.” Thirteen years ago Ms. Betty's granddaughter Sabrina died in a car accident, leaving three young sons behind. Ms. Betty took in all three great-grandsons. After church one Sunday, one of those grandsons, Andre Taylor, was shot and killed. Roseland Christian Ministries has been her refuge—she comes here four to five times a week. She's at worship and Sunday school on Sunday, prayer meeting on Tuesday, hospitality committee on Wednesday, and stops in at other times too. Some days she needs prayer; some days she needs groceries. Most of all, like the rest of us, she needs assurance that God is with her—that Jesus is still walking with her. Whether we are aware of it, feel it, acknowledge it, or not—we worship the God who, in Jesus and by his Spirit, walks with us. God is with you. Christ is present with you on your journey today and every day. Walk with us, Lord. While we are on this journey, please continue to walk with us, be our guide, and hold our hand. Amen.

Episode 65 Dallas Police Department SWAT Sergeant Andre Taylor #7752 “Trust God, Clean House, Serve Others” The Assist the Officer Foundation sits down with an incredibly accomplished and unique individual today in Sgt. Andre Taylor of Dallas SWAT. As Dre grew up in the South side of Chicago, he regularly witnessed acts of violence but also witnessed an incredible community and family as his mother was ever present in his upbringing ensuring he didn't fall prey to the many negative lifestyles of the streets that could lead to him in jail or dead. Life laid itself out for Andre as he found himself moving to Dallas Texas to join the Police force in 1999 and began serving the City of Dallas. He joined the Dallas SWAT team in 2003 and trained under some of the toughest SWAT trainers who exposed him to a new level of police work . Andre experienced several critical incidents during his time in SWAT and one that sticks out more than others is an incident that's familiar to this show. The hostage rescue on Martel still haunts everyone that was a part of that operation. After leaving SWAT he joined the Dallas Mounted Unit and learned the tools to have a partner, Tommy, that weighed over 1500 lbs. and quickly understood the power and beauty of horses and saw the importance of community policing. Andre Taylor returned to Dallas SWAT years later and found himself in a new role as the leader and not the operator, so he had to learn to develop tools for his new role as being a boss to high performing and highly trained operators. Dre has always been in control of his life and his own destiny however in January of 2023 he looked into the mirror and did not like what he saw and realized he could not control an aspect of his life. As he contemplated his new direction, he typed out on email that would change his life, both personally and professionally, forever as he knew once he hit the send button everything would change. Once he hit send and the first step in climbing a new mountain was taken and now Dre found himself in a completely new world as he had to ask for help to regain control of his life. The listener will have to finish this story and hear Andre's new challenge in life and career as he found a new purpose and “why”. We are hoping Dre finds that needed time now to work on his old cars and roller skate. ATO Family you are never alone in this life…….Please always reach out. On Season 2, Episode 2 of Unincarcerated: The Podcast, we meet Andre Taylor, the founder and Managing Partner of Career Paths NW. What many people don·t know about Andre is that before he attended both the University of Washington and Jackson State University, there was a time in high school in which he was both captain of the football team as well as the leader of a gang in the Central District of Seattle. Andre discusses how after serving 8 months in a juvenile detention center, he chose a higher path and turned his life around. In addition to his work with Career Paths NW, he now focuses on coaching youth sports, as well as mentorship and economic development for the community. An inspiring story not to be missed.
His name was Gorgeous Dre, and he was the star of the HBO cult classic American Pimp. As A pimp, Andre played the game as it was designed. Beautiful women sold for a price, and he was the collector. Some would argue that those days were his worst as a man, and others would look up and admire one of the oldest professions known to man, prostitution. A game he was born into, with the taboo skills learned from his parents. Andre has come a long way since then, but some of the skills needed to make it in the underworld, are the skills needed to become a political activist. Listen to his incredible story and see if you agree.

The deadly 2016 shooting of Che Taylor by Seattle Police sparked outrage in the Black community and a level of demand for more police accountability not seen since the deadly shooting of John T. Williams. Che Taylor was shot in 2016 during an undercover drug operation in Seattle’s Wedgewood neighborhood. Taylor says going through the process and coming through on the other side with justice for his brother is phenomenal.“Perseverance is important, but probably one of the most important things, what I’ve tried to teach, is that you have to build relationships,” Andre Taylor explained. “That things move through relationships, and not be afraid to have a conversation with somebody that you disagree with. Don’t feel like I have to agree with somebody 100% of the time in order to build.”“That was the philosophy I used from day one, and we built relationships — even with law enforcement and with politicians — and through those relationships, we were able to get people involved,” he added. This is a chopped up synopsis of our guests life, the whole article is on line if you want to look. The conversation was how he built relationships through peace and getting all the right people in the right room to discuss problems and getting them resolved.

A Seattle activist hired by the city to serve as its “street czar” was embroiled in debates this past summer over the Capitol Hill Organized Protest and at one point suggested protesters seek money from City Hall, for their cause, in order to leave the zone. Andrè Taylor, who created a police-accountability nonprofit and championed statewide reforms after his brother, Che Taylor, was fatally shot by Seattle police in 2016, was a vocal critic of the multiblock occupation by protests and others that took shape in June after police abandoned their East Precinct on Capitol Hill. Taylor’s stance on CHOP provided support for Mayor Jenny Durkan as she sought to wind down the demonstration zone known as the CHOP in the wake of shootings there. His position also drew ire from some protesters who were trying to put pressure on the mayor and saw him aligning with her. Seattle Mayor Jenny A. Durkan says the trauma of systemic racism is real and has inflicted pain on the African American community for generations. She tells host Joni Balter, "If we don't acknowledge that deep, deep truth about our country and its systems, we can't begin to heal." That healing process inched forward as protest leaders met with the Mayor to share concerns about policing and inclusion on the community police commission. Mayor Durkan also agreed it's time to review police crowd control tactics. One of those meeting with the Mayor was Andre Taylor, Executive Director of the racial justice organization Not This Time! But Taylor did not come with a list of demands. He says the current problems are much bigger than the Mayor. He encouraged Black people to stand up, realize their own power and genius and get things done. Taylor also encouraged, what he called, his "White allies" to use their passion and privilege to infiltrate their own communities and work for change.

Public historian and historical interpreter Lacey Wilson concludes the series on how do we interpret slavery in America going forward. Wilson says she doesn’t shy away from discussing slavery and incorporates the daily chores enslaved people would have performed on the plantation and inside the plantation home. Introducing the daily activities of enslaved people humanizes them and adds an element to the discussion of slavery, Wilson says.
Food historian, educator, and award-winning author Michael Twitty explains how we can examine elements of slavery through the foods that land on our tables. He also dives into slavery overall and the impacts it has had on the African American community.
Hannah Scruggs, of the National Museum of African American History and Culture, is the latest guest on Speaking Culturally discussing ways of interpreting enslavement in America going forward. Utilizing descendent voices is one way and humanizing enslaved women is another, she says.
Richard Josey, founder and president of Collective Journeys, LLC, kicks off Speaking Culturally’s series, “What’s Next in Interpreting Slavery.” The series will look at new ways to interpret enslavement in America and discuss the gaps that need to be filled in the narrative. Josey brings decades of experience to this discussion and focuses on inclusion of dark history in the narrative of enslavement.
NICK CANNON, CHINGY SUPPORT NIPSEY HUSSLE/DR. SEBI CONSPIRACY THEORYAs proven throughout history in America, whenever one of the descendants from the Africans brought to America present a form of a solution to the problems plaguing Black people in this country, they are immediately attacked and some have even had their lives taken from them in cold blood. Many believe that this is the case of Nipsey Hussle, who was shot and killed in LA. Celebrities such as Nick Cannon and even St. Louis rap veteran Chingy are solid in their beliefs that Hussle, who was killed at age 33, had his life taken because of his unwavering work to uncover the work and the circumstances surrounding the death of world-renowned natural healer Dr. Sebi in a tell a documentary.LISTEN NOW for Andre Taylor's perspective. NOT THIS TIME! is a grassroots movement that evolved from the killing of Mr. Che Andre Taylor by the Seattle Police Department on February 21, 2016.Andre Taylor (Che's brother) and his wife Dove founded NOT THIS TIME shortly after Che's death, to engage with local community members, the families of those who have lost their loved ones to police shootings, and those who work inside the system, to demand more police accountability and safer communities.NOT THIS TIME works with a large and diverse coalition of Native Tribes, Black Churches, Asian Pacific Islander groups, Latino Organizations, and people with disabilities to reform policing in Washington State. It has garnered the support of U.S. Senator Patty Murray, U.S. Congressman Adam Smith, Seattle Mayor Ed Murray and many others working to create more just laws in Seattle, King County, and Washington State. Organizational allies include the Seattle Community Police Commission, the Black Law Enforcement Association of Washington, the King County Office of Law Enforcement Oversight, and the Washington Joint Task Force on the Deadly Use of Force in Community Policing. The communities we serve, especially African-American, are disproportionately affected by fatal police shootings. In the decade from 2005 and 2014, over 200 people were killed by the police in Washington State. The exact number killed is not known, because Washington State, like almost all other states in the US, does not maintain an official statewide record of officer involved shootings. please visit notthistime.global

Welcome to another edition of Po Politickin. In this episode, we politick with life coach, activist, and former pimp Andre Taylor aka Gorgeous Dre. Bio.. Andre Lavon Taylor was born on July 13 to a father who was a Pimp and a mother who was a Prostitute. From an early age, it became clear to all who knew Andre that he was destined for a life that would be nothing short of extraordinary. From early childhood, Andre grew up inside the lining of the underworld, and in that setting gained a remarkable understanding of various facets of human nature that many people never even begin to grasp during their lives. Despite growing up in what many would consider a seedy or perhaps immoral environment, Andre's childhood was a happy one, and one in which he enjoyed the love and attention of both his parents. Andre's father, Mel Taylor, instilled in his son life lessons such as personal accountability, integrity, the value of spirituality, and the importance of education. Andre's unique circumstances allowed his young mind to soak up an education in three forums; the classroom, the church, and the street. Read entire bio... http://www.gorgeousdre.com/
