On Volume 180 of Sounds Like Radio it seems everyone's off to the mountains for a vacation except for Leroy & the Great Gildersleeve. Why go to the mountains when you can stay home? That's the way Gildy feels about it, too bad Leroy doesn't agree. So instead Gildy & Leroy will camp in their own backyard. Sounds good, huh? Well, we'll find out if perhaps Al Jolson, Helen O'Connell, Burl Ives, Billie Holiday, Roy Rogers, Peggy Lee & Bing Crosby agree. And our 70's flashback to Your Humble Host's own original album collection with a neat song you never hear anymore. You'll feel the Joy of Cooking once again.

Throughout most of the season, it has been the ECU offense that has failed to deliver. However, against Memphis, it was the much-improved Pirate defense that turned in what was its worst performance of the season--at least statistically--as the Tigers rolled up 59 points and well over 600 yards--including more than 270 on the ground--on Saturday afternoon at a sparsely filled Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium. On Volume 67 of The Sports Objective, we discuss that, the larger picture of ECU football, the AD search, Pirate hoops and more with Stephen Igoe of HoistTheColours.net.
On Volume 66 of The Sports Objective, we are joined by former ECU wide receiver (1993-1997) Larry Shannon. Larry, who is now a high school coach in Venice, FL, had 101 career receptions and 21 touchdowns as one of the top targets of Marcus Crandell and Danny Gonzalez. We take an in-depth look at the Memphis Tigers with Peter Edmiston of Memphis' WHBQ 87.7 FM while also hearing from many ECU coaches and players in this week's practice report. Thank you for listening to The Sports Objective Podcast!
On Volume 62 of The Sports Objective Podcast, the guys catch up with ECU gridiron great Dr. George Koonce, talk college football with ESPN's Peter Burns, bring you an ECU Olympic Sports Update and Pirate Football practice report AND MORE!! Dr. George Koonce, who is currently the VP of Advancement at Marian University in Wisconsin, is a New Bern native and was part of the 1989 and 1990 teams that helped lay the foundation for the memorable 1991 campaign. Peter Burns wears many hats at ESPN such as hosting College Football Live, serving as an SEC Network in-game studio host, hosting the Campus Conversation radio show/podcast and more! Dave, Kyle and Bubba wrap up the show by picking 5 of this week's top games against the spread. Follow us on Twitter @TheSportsOBJ, on Instagram @thesportsobjective, like our Facebook page and Subscribe to our YouTube Channel.
On Volume 57 of The Sports Objective, the guys are joined by former ECU WR Terry Gallaher, who played for legendary coach Pat Dye. They take a look at this week's match-up with Houston, the quarterback competition being re-opened, the A.D. situation and more! Dave will have a practice report--highlighted by a chat with defensive coordinator David Blackwell. We also catch up with Sam Razz of the Scott and Holman Pawdcast. Sam and his broadcast partner Dustin provide excellent coverage for the Houston Cougars! On Volume 55 of The Sports Objective Podcast, the guys are joined by former ECU defensive lineman Zaim Cunmulaj, who lettered for the Pirates in 1991 and 1992. We were at practice on Wednesday morning and caught up with Coach Mo, Alex Turner, David Blackwell and Nate Harvey. Ryan Wallen of Owls Daily (Temple 247 Sports Site) joined the guys to talk about the 15th meeting between the Pirates and Owls on the gridiron. The series is tied 7-7, but Temple has won four straight over ECU.
On Volume 53, we are joined by former ECU offensive lineman Eric Graham as we break down the Pirates and ODU Monarchs. We are also joined by Patrick Johnson of 94.3 The Game-- The Official Station of the ECU Pirates and Curtis Thieman of Port City Films to discuss the making of this year's ECU Football intro video!!
On Volume 48 of The Sports Objective, we had the chance to catch up with four key components of the 2008 and 2009 CUSA Championship football teams that ECU produced. First, we chatted with Van Eskridge, who intercepted Case Keenum's long ball in the final minute to help seal the 2009 Championship against Houston at a rockin' Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium. Enjoy Ron Franklin's call of that pivotal play below: Pirates knock off Houston to win back-to-back CUSA titles! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hQjEQKnAzcE Eskridge had a chance to make that memorable interception because of the tremendous coverage that corner Travis Simmons had on the play. We'll catch up with the Florida native and see what he's up to now. Nick Johnson wasn't the fastest or the strongest, but he was SIMPLY a football player. He had a nose for the football and was a tremendous linebacker. We'll talk about how he landed at ECU. Last, but certainly not least, we were joined by Dekota Marshall. Dekota's injury was cut short due to an injury against Virginia Tech in 2009, but he rebounded to play some professional ball in the arena leagues and CFL. Now, the Eastern North Carolina native is back home where he is a successful financial planner and owner of 1st and Goal Hauling, where it's "a touchdown every time!"
On Volume 42 of The Sports Objective, the guys take a look at the Sun Belt Conference, as they chat with the play-by-play announcers for App State (Adam Witten) and Arkansas State (Matt Stolz). The Mountaineers, who are led by former ASU quarterback and sixth-year coach Scott Satterfield, are replacing veteran signal-caller Taylor Lamb. Lamb's replacement Zac Thomas lit it up against Penn State and had his club on the brink of a huge upset in Happy Valley, as the Mountaineers' furious 4th quarter rally fell just shy in a 45-38 OT loss against the No. 10 Nittany Lions. ASU has won 30 games over the last three seasons. Neal Brown and Troy will likely be ASU's primary challenger in the East. Arkansas State, which has found continuity and much success with head coach Blake Anderson over the last several years, is expected to be the favorite in the West. Follow us on Twitter @TheSportsOBJ and Instagram: @TheSportsObjective Like our Facebook Page and Subscribe to The Sports Objective YouTube Channel!
On Volume 35 of The Sports Objective, the guys continue to talk North Carolina High School Football and Athletics, as they are joined by Riverside HS Athletic Director Phil Woolard and former Williamston HS Head Coach (1979-2003) Harold Robinson. Robinson also served at his alma mater ECU as the Director of High School Relations from 2003-2015. Up next on The Sports Objective? We begin our in-depth FBS preview and will start with the Independents!! (Notre Dame, BYU, New Mexico State, Army, Liberty and UMASS) Follow us on Twitter and Instagram! The Pirate Football Nostalgia After Party continues! On Volume 28 of The Sports Objective, we talk with three former Pirate Football players from the Skip Holtz Era. After starting their careers on the Division II level, Phillip Henry, Jay Sonnhalter and Brandon Simmons transferred to ECU and were contributors on teams that laid the foundation for the program's consecutive CUSA titles. Simmons was a part of that 2008 team that captured the title with its victory at Tulsa. Check out Phillip Henry's "PH Podcast".
